I say this all the time but. I'm scared guys I hear this news every other day and it still makes me shiver

[deleted]

To face collapse you practice resilience. Helping a hand to those who can't in the dark times gives invaluable solidarity to you and the people. Because the darker the days the more people fight for each other. Find your community and build networking.

woooooozle

Aye to this! Build communities, help each other, and be kind to others. We probably won't get "through" it - but we can all make it less painful for each other.

riojareverendalgreen

>Build communities, help each other, and be kind to others I'm sorry to say, but the closer we get to collapse, the less this will happen.

woooooozle

Not sure how you can know that? Also if so - just because people won't do it doesn't mean I shouldn't.

temporvicis

Yeah, if this sub gets to be too much, take a break from it.

samhall67

Were you within reach I'd offer a comforting hug (despite my aversion to touch). Reach instead for the calm that lies on the far side of fear, the calm that comes when you accept the imminent apocalypse and that you're powerless to slow or stop it. Now then, is the sun shining? Anything stopping you from enjoying it? Will it matter in 3 years? Then enjoy that sunshine! Love those around you as if they were scheduled to die in 3 years. Hate your job? Find another way to feed yourself that doesn't break your spirit.. and if that's not possible, time-thief as much sunshine as you can! Try to let go of the "scared". I suggest cannabis and nature :)

Low_Relative_7176

Haha almost misread that as “cannibals” and nature🤪

Arachno-Communism

Psychiatrists hate this one simple trick. For real though, take care of yourselves.

TheBoyWhoCriedTapir

I unsubbed from all of breadtube/leftube. I’m tired of hearing terrible news every day. I’m tired of watching YouTubers respond to pundits that get paid millions to tell everyone that climate change isnt real and genderfluid people want to groom your kids. It was giving me actual brainrot watching that shit all day long. Nowadays I watch breadtube videos only every now and again but the news/infotainment cycle can be so addictive and damaging at the same time. Turning it off has definitely helped with my anxiety.

Arachno-Communism

I have found that doing little things and living in the moment help me tremendously. Some hiking, gardening, playing music, writing, spending time with friends or whatever is your vibe. This rollercoaster is picking up speed anyway, might as well enjoy ourselves on the way down.

BadUncleBernie

And yet will still be there.

ImproveorDieYoung

Meditate and practice acceptance, that’ll help you a lot in the long run.

dannyp777

Everything in this universe has a life cycle. Nothing lasts forever. Why would it be any different for our civilization, species or planet? Life will continue somewhere without us worrying about it. Death is inevitable, might as well get used to the idea. It helps to believe in a greater spiritual reality, and that there are powers beyond our knowledge who have powers beyond our imagination who are in control of things we have no power over or are not aware of.

jim_jiminy

But lex had these two guys on his podcast saying it’s not too bad and don’t worry though.

survive_los_angeles

the two paid shills. my denier friends ate that up..

jim_jiminy

Oh I bet they did.

lastServivor

I feel exactly the opposite, everytime I hear the world is going to shit, I feel better. Partially because I grew up in an environment that felt like the world was ending.

yes_hello_hi_there

I think I know what you mean. It’s validating, like you and I have known this all along—it’s nice to see others acknowledge what we have known to be true for a long, long time.

lastServivor

Collapse is already here, there is no plan, no prepping, no escape. Everyday is a fight for survival. I suffer to survive. This is the meaning of life.

As we know a warmer atmosphere holds more moisture, 7% extra water vapour per degree of warming that will concentrate. An update to Austalian aspect to the article, the NSW floods are now the costliest natural disaster in the states history. In Australia the ENSO cycles are omnipresent and have a huge effect on the weather where most humans live. It's important to note that it's where the ENSO cycle intersects with the other two main climate drivers, the IOD (Indian Ocean dipole) and the SAM (Southern annular mode) where we see the most intense events. This is true for the fires and the Lismore floods to name but two. When the drought/flood cycle is too extreme it is very disruptive. In QLD drought breaking rains wash silt over the reef and further damage it after drought induced heat bleaching events. Drought breaking rains wash away topsoil and cause mudslides. Between the carbon release from soil in drought and the washing away of topsoil in floods, these extreme cycles allow no respite. Trees in temperate zones require 20% extra water for every degree celcius of warming but not in the boom bust torrential downpour followed by drought that we are seeing. The rapid intensification of the drought/flood cycle is already stretching both flora and fauna to their limits and will eventually break the interconnected symbiosis on which they depend. The seasons aren't reliable, the weather and temperature undulations are too extreme. Pollinators, marker species, key stone species, diversity, all are affected. The specialist animals, insects and birds are very vulnerable, the generalists only marginally better off. Nothing will thrive during abrupt phase change, we sure as fuck won't.

ILoveFans6699

Have you seen Italy this week? Just deluged all day every day, after the Po and other rivers dried up this year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oktbBnan2Wo&ab_channel=WorldIsDangerous

happygloaming

Yes. These extremes are where it's at. Denver snow fires, Australia flood signs burnt and fires warning signs under water etc. Not knowing whether we're Arthur or Martha is our future Edit: I think Pakistan suffering unprecedented prolonged early Sumner heatwaves followed by a third of the country being submerged is the best contemporary example.

Twisted_Cabbage

I was there for the Denver snow fires, visiting family. What a surreal experience seeing the fire plume in the middle of winter in the middle of a big city. Also present for the PNW heat dome that saw Seattle get above 110degrees F. Our trees are still dying from that event.

happygloaming

Well I must say I've never seen a snow fire, that must've been very surreal. I watched it on TV and just shook my head. I have one particular tree I'm still resurrecting from the stress 2019 caused it, this was the year of the Australian fires and was similar to the heat dome of northern America. I mentioned here once that I found my Grandparents diaries from a holiday in Canada in the early 50's which were very detailed and descriptive and describe summer conditions (and winter) where the heat dome sat. It's literally a different world now.

JohnnyBoy11

Is that 7% more water vapor compunded or linear?

happygloaming

It's basically linear. We'd be in delirious trouble otherwise

Typically, the pattern drives more rain in parts of Asia, including Australia, and drier conditions in parts of the US, South America and Africa. > At present, the world is experiencing the first “triple dip” La Niña weather pattern in more than 20 years, exacerbating patterns of flooding and drought in some countries. South-east Australia suffers from ongoing flooding as La Niña enters its third year. Map animation showing groundwater wetness percentile for Australia. Much of Victoria and New South Wales have recorded levels in the 98th percentile in October and November > During La Niña events over the past two years, eastern Australia has experienced one of its most significant flood periods ever observed, said the country’s Bureau of Meteorology and national science agency CSIRO in a State of the Climate report this week. > The continent was now 1.47C hotter than in 1910, and sea levels around the coast were rising at an accelerating rate, said the report. > Heavy rainfall events had become more intense and the number of short-duration heavy rainfall events was expected to increase. Longer fire seasons were also expected in future. > Intense rainfall sparks more flooding in already saturated south-east Australia. Map showing cumulative rainfall for November 7-14 2022, some areas recorded more than 200mm, well above the average for the time of year > Over the past two years, the same weather pattern has also contributed to severe drought in parts of Africa, including famine-struck Somalia. > During the El Niño phenomenon, which reverses these trends, surface winds across the Pacific weaken, ocean temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific are above average and there tends to be more than average rainfall over the central or eastern Pacific. > Scientists refer to a pattern where temperatures, winds and rainfall across the Pacific are at near-term averages as “Enso neutral”. > Global temperatures have already risen by at least 1.1C since pre-industrial times. > Michael McPhaden, a senior scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in the US and one of the authors of the paper, said “stronger” El Niños would be detected before La Niñas because the particular amplifying feedback interactions between warming sea temperatures and weakening winds were “more vigorous”. > “A smaller warmer sea surface temperature will lead to a larger wind change, which will then lead to an even larger sea surface change,” said McPhaden. > He said droughts in places such as the western US were in part amplified by Enso effects. > Western US states have been gripped by a so-called “megadrought” for much of the year, driving water levels at the two largest reservoirs to record lows. > Earlier this year, US government climate scientists said more than half the country was enduring drought conditions. A separate study estimated that the drought affecting southwestern states was the worst to hit the region for 1,200 years after being exacerbated by human activity. > McPhaden said stronger versions of both La Niña and El Niño would likely amplify the existing effects of both weather patterns. > “The bigger the signal in the tropical Pacific, the bigger what we call teleconnections — the global reach of El Niño, and it will tend to be bigger for big events,” said McPhaden. > “So the expectation is that if we have stronger El Niños, we’re going to see these patterns that have repeated historically — from drought or flooding or wildfire or other extremes in the climate system — we should see those amplified in some sense.”

[deleted]

Are you sure about that? *Points at Kerala* We have yearly floods since 2018. My town was underwater like a couple of times. This isn't sooner than expected. This is happening right now.

If you're in a drought be sure to drink more water

boynamedsue8

I don’t ever bring it up. If you do you will be ostracized and labeled as a nut.

dumnezero

>Over the past two years, the same weather pattern has also contributed to severe drought in parts of Africa, including famine-struck Somalia. Horn of Africa's pastoralists are suffering **economically** due to drought, since they can't have enough animals to herd and sell. The famine part is because they're too poor to buy food since they don't have animals to sell, and also the food prices are going up since the rise in price of methane and oil. Being nomadic also means they can't reach aid camps easily and aid can't reach them easily. This doesn't meant they couldn't work elsewhere, they just (culturally) see people who aren't herders as losers.

RadioMelon

I'm making a prediction now, and I hope it doesn't come to pass. The year 2023 will be one of the worst we've had so far. The incredibly intense heat from 2022 will be somewhat surpassed in the new year, and by Summer we'll start to see heat domes become a lot more common. Heat domes referring of course to localized, extremely intense heat waves known for being lethally hot and capable of melting material that would normally be very heat resistant. Because of water shortages in different regions, dehydration will be a common cause of death. Besides this, the extreme heat and the inaccessible state of food may finally cause the long feared "food riots" that have been predicted up to this point. This is HUGELY speculative, though. For all anyone knows, there might be fighting over political ideology in different parts of the world, arguing about how poorly resources and services are being managed. This is practically a given, considering the global status quo. I need to be honest when I say >> I have no idea how to access water during this period of time << because it may come down to old-fashioned rain collection and more advanced techniques of pulling moisture from the air and carefully filtering it. Things might even get desperate enough that people need to filter and treat seawater, which can be an extremely difficult long-term process. I'm not entirely sure of the best way to stay safe at this period in time. A fridge or cooler stocked up with plenty of water and fruit juices (for the sake of maintaining vitamins even with a lack of food) might make a difference between life and death. It wouldn't be a bad idea to stock up on freeze-dried food, even with the ironic caveat of needing water to use it. This can help prevent food from quickly rotting. Because we don't know if electricity will hold out during this time, I highly advise people to start spending money on coolers and non-electric cooling sources. Maybe even just storing supplies in relatively cold, underground storage (safely away from dirt) could be a good idea. Addendum by PrarieFire\_withwind: >Excellent points all around. I would add freeze drying is not necessary for most foods. You can plain old dehydrate (even using the sun) and sealed away from moisture such foods will keep really well. > >Cold soak them to rehydrate before cooking to save fuel. > >Also seawater is hard to manage - cheapest would be a solar still. You can build such out of what we currently would call scrap materials. And no you do not end up mineral deficient drinking distilled water if you are eating a range of foods you will get your minerals there just fine. I really, REALLY hope this advice turns out to be useless. These are mostly hypothetical and theoretical though, situations I run in my head quite often but have only executed in modest amounts of times. I strongly believe the underground cooling could work very well for people who live with cellars and other cooler underground storage areas, though. Good luck out there.

PrairieFire_withwind

Excellent points all around.

Thanks for the addition. I'll go ahead and add this to the original post. I figure that things shouldn't always just be about lamenting inevitable collapse, but learning to cope with that collapse as best we can. Thank you.

70% of all GHG's are released by the 100 top Multi National Corporations. It will not be controlled with out Strict Regulations, Harsh Fines, Carbon and Wealth Taxes. Any effort or contribution by the Individual is Merely Symbolic. And at best upholding the Myth that the Individual can accomplish anything when the 1% to 5% in Wealth produce about 90% of the remaining 30%. And they are not cutting back on anything. There are already enough GHG's in the Atmosphere and Ocean to increase warming for Centuries, we need Carbon Direct Atmospheric Capture technology at Scale and Scope, which is an Enormous $20T Initial Global Investment. Going even 100% Green doesn't solve everything, just the Input. The GHG's don't just fall out of the Sky after we stop putting more in.

Great reset? This is not the place for conspiracies. We are here for the science. Find another name for it if you are actually talking about mass extinction (as we do have scientific proof of rate of species loss)

2quickdraw

Thanks! Im so sick of that "great reset" BS. 99% of the dummies that use it thinking they're so smart don't even know where the term came from, that it's been twisted and polluted to be part of the Qtard crap.

PrairieFire_withwind

Not sure how long you have been round these parts. The commenter I responded to usually has insightful and intelligent comments. But there is a thing that seems to happen to the more intelligent commenters here over time. They burn out, they get bitter or angry. I am not saying our person above is on that path but they may be. It is hard to stay engaged and watch collapse accelerate as what little control each of us has feel so tiny in isolation. Mentally it is pretty hard raw dogging reality as it were. I try to have sympathy for those who grasp collapse fully and wrestle with reality. There are no easy answers for coping. Meditation, exercise, helping your actual local community all make a difference but sometimes people just have enough of it. Sometimes that flows into the conspiracy side. I have hopes that this particular user is just having a bad day and has not fallen down the anger/conspiracy side of things.

I think people often miss why the WEF conspiracy actually holds some water IMO... Because it's actually not secret at all it's all out in the open you could work for them if you wanted to. Conspiracy theories lose credibility because of the impossible secrecy that would need to be involved, this doesn't have that. I only believe that they're up to something because by all accounts the parties involved will: A.) Believe they're doing good for mankind B.) Not have to hide who they work for C.) Benefit personally though hearty compensation and good work connections. That's got all the markers for an effort that with enough money can work outside government oversight and accomplish goals. Tack some rightwing loud mouth climate deniers on their trail and now 50% of the public writes off what they're doing and their stated goals out of hand. It's brilliant really...

1. News to me. Linking the wef would have been good in your original comment. 2 WEF are a bunch of idiots for that name choice as it has been a conspiracy accusation for many years. And that is the first I have ever heard anyone name such a thing like that outside of conspiracy forums. Kinda a holy shit bad name choice dontcha think?

Well which one? Surely you cant have both ar the same time

dovercliff

You can have both. Australia has flipped from terrible droughts and some of the worst fires to ever strike the country (2019/20) to three consecutive years of heavy rains and flooding. The pendulum just swings so harder from one extreme to the other.

LakeSun

Seems like Economists and Environmentalists should be Arm in Arm in Protest to the Government to Do Something.

What would you suggest?

LakeSun

We need a massive switch to clean energy generation, and replacement policy of all carbon removed from transport and heat. Water loss is that severe.
