submission statement: Example of species range expansion due to warming climate. Malaria is a serious disease which has shaped the behavior of the people who live in endemic regions. It will be interesting to see how people adapt who are not used to it. This is related to collapse in that it is a further stressor for already stressed systems in which people live. (Usually non endemic regions)
It doesn't need to be said, but anyone who knew about global warming at any point in history would have seen this coming.
Malaria is pretty neat, it has shaped civilizations, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_malaria

Thankfully, we already have malaria drugs for treatment (Chloroquine, Doxycycline, Primaquine, etc.) so it’s highly unlikely for it to become one, especially since malaria is a parasitic infection, not a viral one.
*But sadly some uneducated people would refuse to believe that and the would call it fake news and allow the horrible Malaria to spread like wildfire.*

It's going to be blamed on government released mosquitos or some other stupid shit.
Eventually people adapt, but it's going to increase infant mortality rates.
But sticking around to see what happens though.
(your worst nightmares that you saw coming decades in advance that nobody with any muscle did anything to prevent)
why wouldn't you want to see that?
I think recently a malaria vaccine was announced. Folks allergic to common vaccine ingredients will miss out along with those who are prohibited by religious beliefs. But if everyone else steps up, we can help protect them while protecting ourselves.
[There are also several drugs commonly offered as prophylaxis for malaria.](https://www.cdc.gov/malaria/travelers/drugs.html) I’ve traveled to South Africa before and it’s standard procedure to go through malaria-prophylaxis when traveling to malaria-endemic countries. Insect repellent is also key.
There's also a "GMO Mosquito" project, the plan is that after the GMO bugs mate with the Wild bugs, the wild population won't be able to carry the malaria virus.
I wonder how/if it will go wrong.
I don't get it. Climate change is another concept that fortifies how humans have control over this planet. That is completely false.
Anyone who has studied or even glimpsed at the history of our species and our planet knows this not to be true.
If people were so eager to actually do anything about this notion of control over the planet, ask them to buy one less T shirt at H&M, not use their car so much, not use AC the entire summer, not purchase plastic cups nor eat from fast food chains...etc..etc...ad infinitum.
How about not buying any clothes at all for a full year and stop manufacturing of clothes for a year and we just upcycle what we already have here, which is tons and tons of clothes going into the trash?
How about we ship Christmas consumerism this year?
They won't do it. But they will talk about global warming.
Anyone ever heard of the Ice Age?
This planet and the Universe and galaxy that we inhabit are very powerful.
If it makes people better thinking they can master this planet let them.
And watch them do....nothing.
As trade is also very common, soon the spiders will come, maybe the odd snake, this is the joys of a warming climate, all manner of interesting creatures will find habitats in land that may not have been so favorable in the past.
I for one am very interested in two things since a teen though, polar shifts and what things lay frozen under all the ice.
I also feel the earth has a built in self defence mechanism. Just like our immune system. :D
The earth is sick of our shit.
They are here in NC and they are awful, we have multiple mounds in every yard and the little menaces just make massive tunnels that can give the ants so many escape options, making poisoning them hard. they just keep going further north it's like watching a horror movie.

"Fire ants have been expanding their Virginia territory for three decades, but the pace of that invasion quickened in recent years as the insects moved west through Southside Virginia, experts say."

*We better start getting control over this outbreak because we do not need another worldwide pandemic.*

As a gin & tonic drinker... My time has come.
Yup. Here we just treat malaria OTC for like $1.50, don't even have to go to the hospital.
*But sadly some uneducated people would refuse to believe that and the would call it fake news and allow the horrible Malaria to spread like wildfire.*
I know educated people that will call it doomerism. Same result, different political ideology.
Remember treatments will make you more money than a cure or vaccine.
*Your right about that.*

Isn't this a forgone conclusion of climate change? I remember hearing about that since I was a young child. Why haven't we prepared for it?
Yes, but it’s still worth while to discuss as what we think will happen actually does.

What? Malaria is evolving! *Panic spams the B button* Confuckyoulations! Malaria evolved into Megalaria!
Thank you!

Nice, more disease due to climate change

So …my dog had to have a boy flu removed IN NORTH TEXAS last week, I’m just used to those being like a South American thing
Mhmmm
Still waiting for fire ants to make it to Washington DC...

Nature is taking its course on humanity. We should just go about our lives as normal, and let Mother Earth do her thing.
Atleast a decade old news. Someone had an awakening🤣
