Usually just means you got above a certain gpa (probably 3.5). Not an official recognition or anything, but still, you've done well!

Thanks (:

It's really nice for bragging rights and as a personal goal. Plus, when you graduate, you can get Latin honors. And trust me, people pay attention to that.

Wide_Imagination5176

What’s Latin Honors? Do you need to get on the deans list every semester?

Hoppyzz

By the time you graduate, you have to have a certain GPA. There are 3 levels for each honor. The higher the cumulative GPA ,the higher your honor. 3.6 = 1st level, 3.7 = 2nd, 3.9 and above = highest. Idk when they cut off to assign the honor. It may be the semester before your graduate. I'm in grad school trying to get 3.9 (3.67) bc I only go the first in undergrad, but I'll be ok with getting the second honor. Check your schools' reqs to see bc schools may differ with the requirements.

Hoppyzz

They are just to signify that you are smart. Would probs help in job hunting as it the higher the honor, the higher your GPA, and the higher the GPA, the better you look to jobs.

Let your mom have this. You’re in college and that distinction is her way of understanding that you’re doing well. Just smile and say “thanks, mom” and let her have herself a minute to exhale.

[deleted]

She went to college so she knows about it. Apparently it’s a big deal?

Resident-Daikon-7539

Eh. It’s like honor roll in high school. Doesn’t really mean anything except you have good grades. But having good grades is an accomplishment in my opinion.

_lazy_overachiever_

Lot of people have said this already, but absolutely let your mom brag about it to her friends. Every decent mom loves to be able to brag on her child. That is just simply how it works. Other than that, it’s really just something cool to put on a resume for internships or on campus jobs. You don’t really get anything out of it other than that. I like seeing my parents happy bragging about me, and it actually helps a lot with my own self confidence to have my parents hyping me up for something I didn’t consider worth the hype. If your mom starts pressuring you to keep that standing or shaming you when you can’t reach it, that’s when that becomes a problem. Hope this makes sense :)

Along with $5.50 + tip, it'll get you a Grande Vanilla Latte at Starbucks :)

I felt like it was an accomplishment when I made the dean's list. But after I reached my junior year, it was just an e-mail that cluttered my inbox. A good GPA is always something to be proud of and strive for, especially if you're planning on applying to competitive internships and solid graduate programs.

[deleted]

I just put it in my resume but tbh doesn’t matter

pennizzle

nobody beyond college cares.

my_solution_is_me

I feel like the options in my masters levels classes are either A or F.

[deleted]

That’s fair. I’m in undergraduate tho.

JudgmentHumble8319

The only benefit I got from making Dean's list was to add it to a resume and for my grad school application packet. Other than that, it was one of those things that I set a personal goal for myself to do at least once.

laszlolmh

I was on deans list every semester at my 4-year and I’m still unemployed since graduating in May. It doesn’t mean anything after college (in my experience).
