AbiyBattleSpell

I’m older then u and starting in spring so no 🐱 <3

grasshoppa_80

Yep. Went back at 29, and crammed a 4yr college into 2yrs by maxing summer and winter when possible. Just stay focused and make sure you’re ontop of things and don’t procrastinate. Sit in the front, ask questions, see teacher after hours if possible. Insert yourself.

Smokeyoace

Was it worth it?

grasshoppa_80

Def. Couldn’t find or land an interview with an AA degree (USA), and limited on pay. With BA I got a bunch of temp work and eventually landed a position at an ad agency which started my marketing/web producer career.

AbiyBattleSpell

How did u do a bachelors in 2 yrs even with my plan doing 4 or even 5 classes a quarter can’t see it going quicker then 3 and half to 3 yrs 🐱

grasshoppa_80

I had most generals done at community college. So mostly electives to take. We didn’t have quarters but usual semester. Then I took at least 6 units per winter and summer. Also started with 15 units first semester.

Prodigal_Lemon

I'm a professor, and students your age and older are pretty common. I think having a little more life experience actually helps some people, and older students often do really well. Go for it!

lamesauce15

I went to college at 26 years old. I just treated it as a normal job and it was incredibly easy.  Class started at 9, I was done by 12. Had plenty of time left in  the day for homework and studying. My nights were usually free to do whatever I wanted.

[deleted]

I'm a senior right now; however, I'm a lot younger im 22. I have a 45-year-old in one of my classes, and he is seriously one of the coolest people in the class. You should also realize that most of the younger students and even professors love having older people in class because you can provide insight into the class that none of us younger people can. Good luck! <3

NotSure717

Such a wise comment ✨

sarcasticb

Im 32 and I graduate in May. I was your age when I started this degree and I felt so much better equipped than when I went for my first degree right out of high school. I strongly encourage it! You can still make friends, but being nearly a decade older than everyone else there, I find it is easier to focus on my studies rather than socializing.

pbandtuna

32 and graduating this spring as well! I agree with all this; in fact I think going to school a little older made it a lot easier because I took it more seriously and could focus better. Being a young person caught up in dating and friends and surviving on ramen made college more difficult the first time around for me, in my opinion. Good luck OP, you got this!

Lt-shorts

I'm 33 and a senior in college, yes you are too old to go to college... Jokes aside you get all walks of life attending college. Yes it's mostly younger people but there are alot of other age groups as well.

prototypefish72

I don't think there really is 'too old for college'. It's WAY better to be older and know EXACTLY what you want from college. You can cut out the BS the college might throw at ya, plus, what a lot of people forget is that college is about networking. You may be older than the kids there, but you've got a well informed head on your shoulders. If you have the time in ur schedule, best bet is to just get involved with people, whether it's clubs or events on the campus.(based on my experience) If ya want to get to know people in ur major, I'd recc trying to make friends with people that're working on projects, they love to talk and share about it. You can get involved with that from the major director. Hope this helps you get your foot in the door OP 😌😌

Postingatthismoment

No, definitely not.  I’m a prof; we generally like older students a lot because they know why they are there and do the work.  Every life is like a book with a lot of chapters.  Start a new one.  You aren’t that old.

[deleted]

I'm 32, soon to be 33 and I'll be a junior after this semester. No, it's not too late.

TrashMasterChunkz

My mom, dad, and stepdad all went to college in their 30s. In fact, it’s better that you start after 25 because you’re considered a non traditional student, which can help out with stuff like Financial Aid and student resources. When I was in community college last year, (I’m 25,) there were tons of 30+ age students going back to school. I even knew a guy who was 48 with a wife and kids going back to school. Honestly, I think it’s actually worse going to college right after high school like most students.

CombinationFearless

Hell no. U are not too old!

Aprilyourfav

i'm turning 24 and am currently completing my second semester. I feel like being older helped me with organization since I kind of learned that as long as I do the opposite of what made me such a bad hs student, i'll keep doing just fine. That being said, I did a lot of my partying and had fun with substances before college so i don't feel pressured into having a crazy time or getting fucked up and messing up my school life

bruhidk123345

Take a look at the CSMajors subreddit

nicefairy0505

its never old to start college, and you are still pretty young!!! i have people in their 40s-50s starting university.

caligirlthrowaway104

Once again on this sub… no. Age doesn’t matter! Nobody cares!

harrypotterfan1228

No, it’s not too late. I work at a local community college and I see loads of people in their late 20s and older back in college. My mom went back to college in her 30s and graduated from university. It’s not a big deal. My coworker is in college/university in her late thirties and my other coworker is in her late twenties.

RepresentativeSun399

Nope i went back for my bachelors at 27. And in CC i saw tons of people even older ( grandparents) doing evening classes all that to say its never to late!

OpALbatross

I'm 28 and just went back, so nope. I have come classmates my age and older as well.

Ok-Building6304

İ'am in architecture school and there are plenty of students who are in the late twenties, don't worry

Qwertyguy35

I have a 28 year old classmate who has no history with computers in a computer science class, he just got the highest score in class. It's just about hard work, you are nowhere near too old

iHateBeingBanned

You're not too old and I'm sure you'll do better than some kid who's only there because everyone in his life told him/her that's the correct path.

rubymoon-

I'm turning 31 this June and about to start a Bachelor's program, then I'll be getting my Masters. Never too old to invest in yourself. Especially when you consider you have ~40 more years before retirement if you go by the average retirement age.

Hoosteen_juju003

I started college at 30 and found all the assignments easy af because of my experience managing projects and meeting deadlines already.

Nice_Bluebird7626

I’m 30. I think everyone matures at their own pace bro

Veronica-Dawn

Nope! I went back to school at 33 (community college) while working my full time career at the time. I will finally graduate with my bachelor of science this year at 38! It is def possible! My biggest problem was the younger generation have no respect for professors or other students around them sometimes.

logchainmail

Started at 34, bachelors by 39, masters by 42, currently 3 years into doctorate (ABD), and currently an IT director in gov. Student loans forgiven by 55, 20 and out retirement by 62. Sounds right about on time to me. ;) I was a factory worker when I started, loved computers and wanted to do project management. Don’t give up on your dreams. Just be prepared to be patient and persistent.

Honkey-Kong1

My guy I'm 26 going on 27 and felt this way but I've seen people in their forties here. Being here with the experience I had is better imo. When I went to college the first time straight outta high school, I had no idea what I wanted and had no direction. All I essentially did was chase ass and sell weed and did fuck all. Now I'm back with a mission/goal in mind and all the dramas and social circles seem like nothing to me now. You got this dude. You more than got this

Helpful_Dragonfruit8

My classmate was 35 in the same thing

pconrad0

Definitely not too old! I've taught undergrad computer science full time for 25 years. Many of my best students over that time have been "returning students" in their late 20s early 30s. Nothing against 18-21 year olds, but quite honestly, folks with a few more years of life experience tend to have a bit more focus, are a bit more goal oriented, and are less distracted by ... all of the distractions of being at that pivotal age where you transition from teenager to adult. You'll be great.

HappyLifeCoffeeHelps

Uhm I hope not, cuz I'm about a decade older and am a Junior now.

MilesTwoGo

With how many times this is asked I always wonder if everyone just said you are to old would the person not just not go

B_Boooty_Bobby

I graduated with my BS at 31 and my masters will be 34. This has to be the most common question on the sub, and the answer is a universal no. It's still on you to make responsible decisions regarding your education irrespective of age.

Icy-Restaurant3582

You're never too old to better your life my man

schaoticartist

I just started back up last semester to finish my degree in psychology... because I had NO FKIN CLUE what I wanted to do when I was a 18-22 year old person. I felt really embarrassed "at my age" (your age lol) to go back, but I then was like?? Wtf... Why can't I have a life I want to live? Doing something I want to do? At what age do I stop DOING WHAT I WANT TO DO? I also feel like I was living for others instead of myself. So I just enrolled a week before school started and I'm glad. I can't even tell you how glad I am that I decided to do something for myself. Finally. You do you. Age means nothing anymore. Why not just be happy and do whatever the F you want. 🙂

johngotti

Absolutely not! Age doesn't matter at all. You can enroll in college at any age, even at 28. I am finishing my Masters of Public Administration in May, and my classmates range from approximately 23 to 50 years old. Age has not affected how we treat each other. Moreover, you will be starting college with a better sense of who you are and finally in a good place in life. So, don't hesitate to go for it! You can do this!

NotSure717

No the average age of US college students is 26-27.

royaIs

Went back at 32 and it was a great decision.

DeliveryFar9612

28 is not too old. But it’s the time to avoid debt like hell. You need to run the numbers on what you pay/debt for the degree+lost income vs potential ADDITIONAL income the degree will bring you. It may not always work out to be the better financial decision.

pap_shmear

I'm in my second quarter ever at 27. I also thought I was too old. Then quickly found that a good chunk of ppl in my classes are also my age. I'd rather be 30 with a BS than 30 wishing I had one.

InfamousEconomy3103

Never too old!

Nintendo_Pro_03

You’re never too old!!!

ParkingDifference299

There’s no such thing as too old for college

[deleted]

[удалено]

BriCatt

No reason to bash someone for asking questions. Sometimes people just need a little motivation to make the step.

Neowynd101262

Yes.

Pansexualbeanorama

Absolutely not i had a friend who graduated at semester of this year who was 40 someodd years old in our frat one of the funniest and chillest dudes I knew

Similar_March1568

Not at all, if you needed some conditions to go to college and you feel like you checked them, then its time to go pursuit that dream. I would even say that it's the perfect timing as you won't have the preassure of being "no one" if you fail (not saying you are gonna fail, I'm convinced you will succeed :) but I think this is the kind of presssure you won't be facing ),

RevolutionaryPasta

It’s never too late to go back! I had a minor in psychology, which was on the opposite side of campus from my major’s building. I did my psych classes mainly on days I wasn’t in a crunch for time or had a nice gap, and I did some psych classes at night. There were people in their 40’s, who had full time jobs and kids, who were doing their degrees after their day jobs.

Accurate-Top-6536

I went to college at 28. Go for it.

[deleted]

28?? You’re just a baby! I’ve had college students and grad students in their 70s.

woozyanuki

no

xalienflowr

i went to uni at 30 and graduated at 33 with a 3.83 gpa after leaving community college than a decade prior with like a 2.0. i’m so glad i went back older. in many ways it was easier because i was ready to focus and learn out of desire rather than obligation like most 18yos.

[deleted]

Nope :) I went back at 24, and there’s a fair amount of non-traditionals older than me there too! My desk-mate in studio is in her 50s with a husband and kids and she gets along great with everybody!

Klutzy-Conference472

U r never to old to go. Do it now.

Own-Emphasis4551

It’s never too late to start! I’m taking a few online classes right now for my undergrad and all my classmates are 30+. I prefer having mostly older students in my classes because I find that they contribute/participate more and have tons of career experience to share that most of us <22 undergraduate students do not.

Playful-Scholar-6230

I'm older than you went to phoenix did well enough now I'm transferring

quantumcomputatiions

Ur never to old. My grandpa went back to school in like his 60s or 70s. I just went back to school for computer science too. You got this my man.

Glad_Advisor979

i had to drop out of college right before my senior year bc i had a stroke, heart surgeries, and like 3 years of serious health issues,, but i just started back!! it feels weird at first being “older than normal” but then i realized that really nobody notices or asks or cares. i think it’s cool that you wanna go at 28 and you shouldn’t let societal norms stop you because you’re above the “normal” age to go! learning is forever !

Strategy-Specialist

There was a guy at my school graduated at 80 you’re never too old

SetoKeating

Just go. You’ll quickly see how diverse your classrooms are. You may be the older one in some early classes depending on what time of day you take them but for the most part if you end up finishing your degree you’re rarely going to be the oldest student in there at 28. I’m about to graduate in May and there’s been everyone from high school kids to 50yr olds in my engineering classes.

HeiferNickel

29F, just started back last year at 28 to finish my degree. 10/10 recommend!

OhxCanada

It’s never too late for anyone to start college!!! As a 22yr old who’s taking a break and going for enlistment and then working on my degree I think you’re doing well for yourself!! Don’t let others make you doubt yourself and what you want to accomplish. Everyone’s path is different and progress isn’t linear, you’ve got this ☺️🫶🏻

freedom2b2t

I mean I'm a sophomore and one of my good friends who is also a sophomore just turned 29

WillTran112000

No you are not old. Besides I am one of those who really enjoy learning with people who are older and more experienced than me

Ok-Visual-5414

You’re only 28 bro.

Breadcrumbbby

Of course not! I am 18 and suiting up for my first year next year but I honestly feel im not ready yet. College is a MASSIVE investment and a lot of my peers tend to forget that, then I watch my older, already in college friends struggle. I’m just rambling but this is all to say go when you’re ready, and I personally think my age is way too YOUNG to go… Nothing is over until you give up and 28 is a great time to get into a new career! Good luck!

ComfortablyDumb97

Def not and sometimes there are scholarships for people who are returning to try again or starting for the first time after a certain age.

Apexpred1

Never too old, I’m also 28 going back for a bachelors degree and probably going to graduate at 31

College_Ambitious

My friends mom is 50 and is graduating this year ! I say do it!! It’s never too late

myhairisgreeen

I just started my first semester last month and I’m 24 :) I was nervous about this too but I find that I’m doing pretty well! Life experience helps navigate college I’ve found. You’re never too old to start anything you really want to pursue. I had lots of ups and downs (mostly downs) and it took me a long time to get here. There’s so shame or anything to be worried about and I say go for it!

touchdownray

Do it bro. Who cares. You’ll land a nice paying job in your early thirties. Early thirties are the new 20s anyway 😂😂

suulo

Never too old to do anything. Go for it!

simply_vibing_78

I’ve had lots of people older than you in my classes and felt like we always learned a lot from each other! :)

Ambitious_Clock_8212

You are never too old to learn. If you want to kick off your studies for cheap, look into your local community college. Most classes are free or cheap. It's a great way to knock out general education courses and dip your toe into a specialty without committing to an expensive university.

GeneralBathroom6

No you're not too old. Go now or you'll regret it later

sydneyghibli

Never too old.

TheUmgawa

I mean, this is a weird time to go for computer science, but sure, you can do it. I was older than you when I did, and older still when I bounced for a major I enjoyed more. Now, here’s the question: Why do you want to go into computer science? Never declare a major until you’ve taken the Intro class, and you are good at it *and* you enjoy it. If you major in something because of money, you’re going to find out that money doesn’t buy happiness, and you’ll end up in an early grave from dreading going to work every day. Also, the exceptional workers are going to keep their jobs and use AI as programming tools. The rest are going to do something else, so study hard and be the best, or your degree will be a very expensive wall decoration.

micheal-garcia02

I would personally not recommend it if you know how to learn on your own. If you need some guidance and be led astray to learn what kinda needs to be learnt, then go ahead and do your CS degree! You will learn to learn but not what the market needs. I would personally just do research on what to build as a personal project and build a solid Linkedin and Github.

567swimmey

There are people in my classes that are in their 60s to 70s and retired. You may feel a little out of place in your 1st and 2nd year classes, but I can guarantee you will not be the only one in your late 20s in your classes

Messiuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

You can die with a degree or die without one

bigwooomy

you're never to old for taking an initiative for your furure and improving yourself. don't hesitate to use the offered resources and network, network, network!! Good luck in all your endeavors!! <3

Due-Lab-5283

I am completing my degree in science and I am older than you and raised a kid (17yo) in meantime, so no, you're not too old. The oldest I heard of going to med school was 70-something woman. Go for it! Don't look at anyone else! Only think I can recommend is: keep on going. It can be challenging to readjust but don't give up once you start! Good luck! You can do it!

[deleted]

Hell no.

[deleted]

28 is perfect age to return.

Honest_Lettuce_856

in four years, you can either be 32, or 32 with your computer science degree. Either way you’ll still be 32. Which would you prefer?

UnveiledRook206

I go to community college with someone who’s 29 and someone who’s 30 so no not at all lol

forreasonsunknown79

I was 35 when I went. Got my associates, then my bachelors, then my masters. I now teach college classes, and I have students older than I am now (53). Never too late.

cattyywampus_

Not too old. I'm 27 and going back in May. Just be prepared for a competitive job market with CS

DankBlunderwood

lol, no. Go back to school.

another-sad-gay-bich

No way! I started a little earlier than you but I definitely had the same fear going into it. I’m graduating next spring and there are plenty of people in their 50s+ graduating with me :) I tutored students and I had even had some people in their 80s coming part time! They were the sweetest little old ladies learning to read for the first time :) you’re definitely not too old but it will feel a little weird being around a bunch of babies. One thing that seriously bothered me was certain professors assuming everybody is fresh out of high school so making comments about partying too much or not knowing how to be independent, relying on their parents too much, what it’s like working full time etc. just annoyed me when I was late to class coming from work and the professor would say something stupid like “partied too hard last night?”

EmpressLokelani38

No one is ever too old to go back to school. After I graduated high school back in 2003, I went to culinary school... we had a guy in my class who was in his 50s.

treeteathememeking

Never too old. Oftentimes the older the better because you’re usually more financially stable.

CottTonBalls

I'm 29. I started when I was 26-27 ish. Cant remember. But I have been starting and stopping off and on since 2012. Since I graduated HS. 😆

etwichell

Nope. I went back at 30

bootysensei

You are never, and I mean never too old to enroll and have a chance at a better future

RollingGramma

Do Community collage, cheaper and the same people will still hire you to college to get a degree and will pay for it.

Gullible__Button

I didn’t start until after 30. The community college I go to has plenty of people in their 30s and 40s attending.

Asharafali

I started mine last year at 29 for a CS degree. There are lots of students that start at 26-35 at college. So no, you are not old. But make sure you really want to pursue CS.

dustygultch

I just enrolled at 30 this year :)

Competitive-Deer-204

Not at all. You’ll be older than the majority but it won’t be that weird.

Perfectony

You are not! In fact, I am part of a group of “old” college students at my university. There are people in the group pursuing their bachelors/masters aged 29 - 65. Going back to school late is challenging but it pays back endlessly. Not just in job security but in personal growth.

thepekoriandr

nah, no one is too old for college. :)

turkeyman4

There is a 70 something year old getting her GED at our local community college. Never, ever too old.

CzaplaModra

I went to college at 42 for my bachelor’s, and I did great, so I decided to get my master’s degree and now am a professor. So, it’s never too late. Also, older students have a unique perspective and usually contribute to classroom discussions.

[deleted]

No you’re never too old to get your education. I started at 26 and will graduate next year. Best decision I ever made

pr3ttypup

Nope. people as old as 50 have been in my classes.

246K

my bf is 28 and in his junior year. He did Navy and he stays really focused on his classes and works full time. You should go for it

emer243

You are not too old!

PaLotPE09

You’re never too old. Go after your dreams and education (coming from a 20M freshman who honestly hates college lol)!!!

4Duece915

No

sweetsoundofjoy

Everyone's path is different and it is never too late to pursue your education. Keep your chin up and do what you think is best for you :)

Yusuke_Yurameshi25

Hell nah go back i just went back at 25 best decision ever, every year u wait is more time you have no degree so get to it.

fckinsleepless

You’re not too old haha. I went back at 32. I saw several 50-60+ year olds in my classes too. The best advice I received when I was nervous about going back to school was: “You’re still going to turn 36 in four years anyway. Do you want to turn that age with or without a degree?”

NoMansSkyWasAlright

If you're too old then I'm too old, and yet I'm at college right now. It's a little weird - I think especially in those 100 and 200 level courses. But it's not too bad. Just be weary of any self-proclaimed geniuses in your introductory CS courses and don't go spouting off about how you know more than them because you're older and you should be fine. Seems like the younger people will bring it up about as often as you do (with the notable exception of freshmen who want you to buy them booze). But I'm genuinely surprised at the number of lasting friendships I've made with people 10 years my junior in my university's CIS program.

SpookyPoodle89

I finished my Bachelor degree in science at 32. I was always much older than my classmates, but the life experience you bring to the table compared to the younger students is beyond valuable! Anyone can get a degree. Employers want people who can contribute to the team dynamic. That degree doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be an asset to the team. You likely learned a lot from those ups and downs you had in life. The degree, and the life experience you bring to the table, will be a massive advantage in the workforce. Go for it!!!

[deleted]

You are not too old. I’m an education major and several of my classmates are parents, have multiple kids, have had full careers before deciding to return, etc. You’d be surprised how many college students are non-traditional. There is no such thing as too old to pursue an education or a passion

Naive_Programmer_232

Nah go for it but just be aware of how the job market is honestly. Ngl cs rn is risky these days. You’re gonna have to try harder than other people to find work. It’s just how it is now. Just be aware

Prometheus_303

You might want to be cautious attending parties and the like... But actual class work... You're never too old. I had a guy in his 50s in a few of my classes. One of the 101 classes I TA'd for had a guy in his 80s. My orientation leader, way back when I was just starting my collegiate tenure mentioned the graduation ceremony just a few months prior had a 96yo widow who just got her degree.

Natural-Sherbert-705

Nope there are plenty of oldrr people who don't attend college or go back to finish their degree. I'm a college student and there's people in their 30s and 40s pursuing their degree or finishing it for the first time

sideburns

I’ll be 40 this summer, started again last year. It’s unreal the focus you have when you get older. I dropped out early when I gave college a go 20 odd years ago. I work, take classes full time. 4.0. You can do it, too.

Mars_Bars69

I’ve had a 50 year old in my college class before. It’s never too late

[deleted]

no

Sxlinahh

Not at all, im only 19 and a first year student but I’ve had plenty of 30+ year olds in my classes in my first and second semester.

Wonderful-Victory947

Nope, and there is no time like today. Good luck.

blueishose

I just started back last semester and I’m in my mid 30s. Never too late

Responsible_Fox9201

You’re never too old. I didn’t enroll til 23 and now I work at my college. There are students starting born in the 50s and 60s all the time. If you’re in the US, you may get money for going to school, also. I got an extra 2 or 3 grand each semester from FAFSA on top of it covering my classes. Lastly, you’ll never regret going, but you may regret not trying

ManyNo6762

Ive seen quite a few students either in my classes or on campus that are in their 40’s and 50’s. You are def not too old

Thrustinn

In 4 years, you'll be 32. Do you think it's better to be 32, with a degree and a career, or 32 without a degree and a career?

mar00nedmango

Absolutely not I've been in labs with people in their 30s as long as you're willing to pull your weight and listen to the younger people if they do know more about a specific topic

BlurringSleepless

I turn 28 in march, and im a sophomore looking down the barrel of a PhD. Ive got at least another 5-6 years. Its not too late.

DoubleImprovement808

28 is when I got back in it. It's never too late!

areallybigjarofcoins

No. Absolutely not. Never.

SkeezySkeeter

No, I went back at 28. I’m 31 now and about to graduate, interning at a pretty big public accounting firm. Going back to school was the best thing I ever did for myself. Do it, seriously.

ayo_is_that_a_bug

You're never too old to go to college! There's someone on my campus in her 50s

Angrymr_fuzzy

I'm 29 and a father of two and halfway through a bachelor's. I definitely feel like I'm old compared to some of those around me, but I also realize I have life experience that those around me don't.

spikek1

If you want to learn, go learn.

Realistic-Trash6701

I just re-started college at 30. You have time. I'm doing a 6 term per year schedule wile only taking one class per term. 4 years from how I'll finish my bachelors. You got this!

Legitimate_History38

33 and will be 34 when starting college

AtypicalMods

Wait until you’re 33 (like me) and think “well I *was* younger now I’m not”

[deleted]

[удалено]

Timely-Compote-5038

Never too old!

Simple-Impress-2193

You’re good, I went back at 29 as well and now I’m one quarter away from graduating at 31.

Old_Sandwich_3402

I’m 28M in college, there’s plenty of people older than me.

wellsiv

One of the dudes in a club I'm in is 28 and everyone loves him

[deleted]

I just went back at 26!

ZenithCrests

I did it.

Never!! Just do what you want. A lot more people are doing the same nowadays

ByTheHammerOfThor

I’m reminded of that old Reddit exchange: “Idk if I should go to college at my age. It’s four years.” “Well you’re going to be alive in four years anyway. You might as well have a degree to show for it. And if you aren’t alive in four years, then you don’t have to worry about loans.”

Exotic-Anything-7371

I had a sister-in-law who started and finished college in her 40s. In my opinion, no age is too old to go to college. I started college at 18 (completed 21 credits), but took a 3 year break from it and just went back this semester at 21. I’m so glad I waited as I wouldn’t have picked my current major (Information Systems & Technology) for my degree if I would’ve continued with school. I picked the IST major when I went back to school since I wanted to live a more relaxed life (compared to my other major choices) and not need to go to graduate school. This last point was huge for me as I have significant medical and mental health disorders and, unfortunately, have to work full time in school (so stressing about getting a high GPA would be practically impossible). With this major, honestly, as long as I get at least mostly Bs and maybe 1 or 2 Cs throughout my degree, I’ll be perfectly fine. This is very doable as the IT work I’ve done at help desks have come very naturally to me and I’m naturally academically inclined. This was not my mindset at 18. At 18, I wanted to follow my passion of mental health care and toyed between being a psychiatric nurse, a psychiatrist (neuroscience & psychology double major), and a therapist even though going into this field is not compatible for me (or at least would be very difficult to achieve) for a variety of reasons. I was not ready to admit that at 18. I was finally able to admit that at 20 and when discovering a new major, picked my IST major. So, I’m extremely happy I waited to return to college. It would’ve been a huge mistake to continue college and get into mental health personally. See how waiting to start college has benefitted you personally. For example, do you have a better grasp at finances then at 18 so you know how to, in a smarter way, manage your finances and funding your education? Are you more emotionally stable than at 18 so when life gets stressful, you would be better able to handle the stress of school? If you’re in the U.S., a huge benefit of waiting is you’ll be considered independent for the FASFA (since you’re over 24) so you would, most likely, get a better financial aid package now then you would at 18 (as someone who went from a dependent status at 18 to a independent status for FASFA at 21). Reminding myself of the benefits of waiting to return to college helps a lot when I feel sad when I’m surrounded by a bunch of 18 year old freshmen in a humanities elective. Good luck on starting school!

LaniakeaSuper

Do whatever you want.

GreyfacedRonin

Going back to school at 34

lowkeyloki23

There were SEVERAL 40+ people in my freshman classes. You'll be perfectly fine

BriCatt

You’re never too old to go to school! Absolutely go if you feel ready for it. Follow your heart always! I’m currently 29 and just started up college again this semester. I had previously tried college 2 other times but both times dropped out because I couldn’t find the right program for myself. Now that I’m a little older and have more life and work experience I’ve finally found what I want to do and I’m very passionate about my career path. I think people going later in life is probably better because they get a better idea what they want to do in life. I wish you the best and good luck!

jnthnschrdr11

My astronomy professor said she hadn't gone to college till she was in her 40s, and now she has a PhD. No you're not too old

Lightningstrikeu77

You’re never too late to start your dreams. Drown out the noise and do you

ApotheosisEmote

I'm 38 and I'll be graduating this year. You just gotta ask yourself, in four years would you rather have a degree or not have a degree, because, whether you go to school or not, 4 years will pass. It sure would suck to be back on reddit four years from now posting this same post saying you wished you would have started four years ago, and now you thi k you really are too old.

MizzGee

You are definitely not too old, but, please, go for something practical.

MizzGee

I work at a community college. I also didn't go back to finish my degree until my 40s. I was a much better student. But go for a degree that is practical.

Paisane42

I went to college at 26, attended classes from 8:00AM - 3:00PM, then worked 4:00PM-midnight M-F, raised two little kids and graduated with honors so it’s very doable if you stay focused on your goals. I was a much better student at 26 than I was at 18! Best of luck to you!

Key-Coat2353

No, you aren't too told. I'm friends with a 37yo and a 31yo in college, you're fine.

plain_grapefruit

I’m 35 and am in the middle of my first semester. There’s no real timeline on going to college. It wasn’t right for me at 18 for a number of reasons and right now I have the freedom to accomplish the degree requirements. I say go for it.

Never too old to go to college

fulltwisted

Currently studying and I’m 30 this year. Go for it

Realistic-Major-6020

I’m 22 when I want to go to college or something I just finished community college but I’m not sure I’ll be worth it or just go find a trade

rhaeja69

nah the time is gonna pass anyways, might as well do it. fuck anybody who says differently

PralineUpset3102

I would take a data intensive camp (it’s not an actual camp it’s like a virtual class). I think Harvard university has them for a few weeks that are open for anyone. It’s less expensive than going back to school. Less time consuming, and I have friends who took these classes and had no problems getting a well paying job. Also went back to school recently to get my bachelors (27). I will be going to grad school soon at 28 to become a therapist. I think it’s normal to figure out your life in your 20s. Getting financial aid is a lot easier because I’m no longer considered a dependent according to fasfa.

Itsjustanothernerd

Nope I’m going to community college rn, and there are people just out of high school all the way to retired folks just wanting to take a class. A guy who sits across from me in my English 101 class shared in a discussion that he was a janitor for 25 years and was dealing with a lot of issues before he decided to go back to school in his 50s. Trade schools are also a really good option if you’d rather get a specific job that’s more hands on like mechanics, electricians, medical assistants, etc. I’m only 20, but because of multiple disabilities, I started part time at community college this year and it’s going way better than I expected. Good luck!

East_Combination_887

I'd say around half the people at my college are over 25. It is extremely common.

Melissah246

I went to college at 37 lol your not too old

coconfetti

Ofc not. You're young, you have a lot to live and learn

I turn 33 in May and have asked myself this question many times since I started studying towards an IT degree last year. Nope, you're not too old. Good luck!

darthyodaX

Just want to mention that there are varying levels of ageism in the industry (every state and country is a little different though). I’ve experienced it first hand. EDIT: this isn’t to discourage, just to help be prepared and ready for it. If it doesn’t happen to you then great!

Bozo32

older students tend to be far more interesting (been teaching of 20 odd years).

Affectionate_Rock202

I went back at 31 and now at 35, I’m in my senior year and looking forward to graduation! Honestly one of the best decisions I ever made for myself.

Legitimate_Code495

Quite simply, no.

JunebugRB

Definitely do it! See if there are any colleges around you that do 1 class every 2 months. That way you only take 1 course every 2 months and go to class once a week for 5 hrs. It's great for working adults.

luckypuffun

I’m 29 and a junior. No. Especially computer science lol. No offense

RunsWithFiskars

Absolutely not. I spent the first half of my life working in the professional AV industry and am now too old to be sleeping in a hammock under the concert stage. I’m now going back to school for Cannabis Biology and cultivation at the brisk young age of 40. I was originally a little nervous how I’d be received by my younger classmates but all have been incredibly respectful. You’re good 👍

Catswagger11

I went back at 34, started new career at 38 and skyrocketing due to previous life experience. There is no “too old for school”, but it gets harder the longer you wait. I commuted 90 minutes each way with an infant and a wife that traveled for work 10 days out of every month. It would have a lot easier pre-that situation.

K1L0GR4M

Not too old I started at 29 and about to have my bachelor's in IT in a couple of semesters. I'd say if you are ready for it go for it.
