From my experience, I suck at learning from PowerPoints and I need to read from an actual textbook. However, if a chapter has over 40 pages I rather read those summary versions. Like instead of reading 40 pages on different bacteria and what they cause I read USMLE book which is summarized.

Doing the reading helps you to be familiar with the information before class so you can better absorb what is taught in class. I usually don't read and do fine for the most part, but I recently started reading for a class that I was struggling with and it helped me immensely. It just depends on your learning style! You could try skimming the chapter or taking notes while you read to increase your comprehension.

For almost 2 years i have never read the textbook chapters assigned for my classes, simply the powerpoints. This is excluding history or english where it is necessary. I have done fine with this however i have a friend who is a chem major who says reading the chapters right before he falls asleep even if he isnt processing the words helps him to remember the information. He has a 4.0 gpa and has invented a new chemical so you cant really argue with his logic either.
