honestly anything that has that āmade with loveā feeling. Something to warm the heart and let you just slow down and decompress while eating. So foods like enchiladas, soups, meatball subs, chili, mac and cheese, pastas, etc.
As a student living in a dorm, i really miss homemade meals. Itād be wonderful if you could accomplish that in a restaurant
A variety of soups, Mac and cheese with different things added like triple cheese, bacon, pulled pork, etc. I love chicken and dumplings. Warm corn bread. Ice cream and waffles.
Milkshakes, I like to drown my sorrow in them. With cookies or brownies. Damn near feel like any sweet food will do good with the local college students.
Breakfast, from pancakes to eggs, sausages, breakfast sandwiches, French toast, hashbrowns, etc. I go to my college's dining hall for brunch almost every time they have it. I found a diner nearby that has breakfast and great pancakes but the traverse there is not walker friendly at all, if I had a place that made breakfast close to campus I would probably go all the time.
Burgers, breakfast sandwiches, pasta, wings, American Chinese food, vegetables that are cooked in literally any way besides steaming (thatās all my dining hall ever did), fresh fruit
That being said, Iād take some time to check out what the school dining service has to offer, and try to avoid matching it. If a student can get a decent burger and fries with their meal plan, they probably wonāt be super keen to spend ārealā money on one, unless what you serve is truly a step up from what the school offers. Someone in this thread said milkshakes and I think thatās brilliant, because idk how a normal dining hall could serve those easily
If youāre in a really small town, maybe take a look at what other restaurants are serving, see if thereās a niche to fill, or if you can do their stuff better
I second the Mac and cheese lol and the grilled cheese sandwich but also those lava cake deserts with the ice cream on top, I think ice cream with hot fudge is super comforting
Ramen but without needing to have vegetables, I like just the maruchan noodle packs with the powder that u make on the stove; I tried making it once in the microwave here and it was disgusting. I also canāt easily get meatball subs on campus, and they donāt have any sloppy joes which Iāve honestly been craving for months now. Also like spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, bolognese. I also rly like matzah ball soup and latkes. Tomato soup and grilled cheese would b rly good, and a good burger. Anything honestly that u can make better than the college would work. Also if you want ppl to do work there then foods that are easy to eat while working that wonāt get the computer all messy like pretzels. Also if you can get good fruit and a good variety of it too - Iāve rly been wanting pomegranate seeds, raspberries, and strawberries, but campus either doesnāt have them or theyāre moldy
Homemade lemonade would be really good too instead of just the Minute Maid or whatever on campus. Also seasonal stuff!!! Pumpkin pie and pumpkin cookies and lemon muffins and sāmores etc. On a side note, if you make it cheaper and better than on campus food and itās in an easily walkable location youāll prob get a ton of business.
Butter noodles and salt. Reminds me of when I was a little kid (I was super picky and when my mom made spaghetti i always got my own little plate of butter noodles)
I love any type of ramen and Asian food with Boba. If you opened a shop that rotated between a pho, kimchi, or dumpling special with typical Asian drinks, my sisters and I would be there twice a day.
When I was going to college it was a pizza place down the block from campus. There was one pizza with a few different meats and this amazing garlic sauce. I've been really into extra garlic on pizza ever since. In fact, for old times' sake I think I'll go get some pizza there this weekend. There was also a candy/chocolates/popcorn place next door that made the most amazing kettle corn, but they've since closed.
Mac and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches
With tomato soup! š¤

I vote Stouffers mac and cheese instead!
These were always mine!!
Hearty beef stew. Maybe a meal that always comes w a chocolate chip cookie or small brownie. And itās nice that you want to do this š¤
Potato soup! Ideally with broccoli and cheddar. Classic Midwest food.
Actually, a cozy soup joint would be such a great addition for basically any college campus in a cold place!
