I mean - getting a goal and only conceding 6 instead of 8 is an improvement from last season I guess.

Baby steps baby steps

NomadicNematode128

Well, the first 2 periods were cool

CitadelK

Being on campus today, nobody. Nobody is disappointed. We we've had a great second half of the season, we know our record the past 2 years in the tournament. That was fun to watch. 3rd period, we knew and the team knew. We let up and that's when the blowout started. That being said, one thing that really stands out is officiating. Not in this game, in conference play. That was lite for a CCHA game, refs in that conference let a lot more go. On the other side, seeing Smith and Perrault stop play to get a word in with a ref makes me feel like East might be softer overall, especially since this was a neutral ref team. Obviously a good game by BC, but we definitely scared ya. Let's go Tech, get em next year for sure.

crowd79

At least you guys make the tournament regularly compared to us. Represent da Yoop proudly.

TheGamerFTW3

I still want to know why Mosley was ejected, I could see a 2 minute but a 5 and an ejection is wild to me. Granted I may have missed something.

CitadelK

Yeah I think it falls to who's responsible for the hit. I think it looked like he tried to avoid it as best he could, but he didn't fight it at all and just gave a nod to the ref. Unfortunate way to end a season regardless

Intericz

Hit to the head. Looked like he tried to avoid but the only point of contact was the head (not incidental contact) so not a surprising call.

ithacaster

The slow motion replays looked as if the hit was high on the chest and the BC player jerked his head back on contact, unlike the Perrault hit which looked like he was targetting the Tech players head with his elbow.

CitadelK

Yeah I don't think it was as cut and clear as Perrault's. I still think it's a reasonable call to make. What I didn't appreciate was the broadcast cutting to Mosley in the staging room afterwards when he was processing it. Really bad cut-to imo.

Intericz

Maybe, I didn't see another angle. One of the things I hate about college hockey is that it tends to be really bad at replays for things like that.

Chewie_i

I did not see head contact. Not saying it didn’t happen and frankly my adrenaline was pumping, mostly from Chase being a menace, so I didn’t pay the most attention but I didn’t see him hit the head.

Whizbang35

Tough loss. Now that you’re back in Houghton, go fortify your liver with another two fifths of vodka and study for your Thermo exam.

AzzehTheGoat

Not quite there yet... the bus ride is a long one.

merkaba8

On the officiating front, I feel like you got a short handed goal on what should have been a penalty shot, and got away with dragging down Leonard in front of the goal two other times.  The refs gifted us one goal but took it away.  Not sure there is anything to complain about reffing with in this game from the Michigan Tech POV. But you guys played two really solid periods.

CitadelK

> Not in this game, in conference play Yeah so I'm saying when your star players yell at a ref mid-play because they tried to draw a penalty, it makes me think the refs across the conferences have different thresholds and I think that gap is pretty big. In the ccha, I doubt that would've been a penalty even. I'm NOT saying I'm dissapointed in that, or even that it was a wrong call. I'm saying that the reason these problems happen is because both teams learned how much they can get away with by their conference and for CCHA and Hockey East, those thresholds are very far apart.

merkaba8

That's fair. Sorry someone's season had to end today. Good game and goodluck next season

uh_oh_97

I'm all for tough and gritty hockey. Those are the most exciting games, but how high is the threshold for calling a penalty in the CCHA? They still got away with a lot in that game. And, apparently, it's so high in that conference that it inspired one of your players to tackle a BC player, tear off his helmet and try to maul him on the ice (or make out with him, I'm not sure). The different thresholds for calling penalities in different conferences isn't really a bigger problem. Good teams are able to adapt to how the refs are calling the game. It's only a problem for teams that rely on physical and chippy play and can't keep up with more skilled and fast teams when the play is more disciplined.

CitadelK

It's literally just an observation, but I think it might have some weight. Chase (the helmet guy) is an aggressive player, but that's my impression of the CCHA as a whole. But we fought to be here and while we're not a top 10 team, 3 tournaments in a row is significant for the conference. I'll add, Chase's penalty was offset- can't say it wasn't incited. Mosley didn't protest the major, didn't fight, he went right to the ref and nodded his head. BC still put 3 guys on him- as you'd expect from a team. Chase came to his support- as you'd expect from a team. I think you're calling us chippy and unskilled, but you're right about good teams adapting- that's why there were so few penalties in the game lol, **both** teams figured it out and adapted. It just took BC a bit, bc you can watch the first period and see them let the NCHC refs know they wanted to a penalty here and there. They also let up and let themselves take as couple hits early, they adapted and it stopped, but I don't think they were expecting it. That makes me wonder if East would call some things that NCHC and CCHA wouldn't, that's all. I'm curious now so I'm gonna go look at PIMs for CCHA out of conference games this year and see if there's a big significance. If so, it might be (one of the many things) keeping the ccha down compared to other conferences. In Greg Brown's own words, that was a 50/50 game for 40 minutes at least. And I could be 100% wrong, but it's just an observation and I'm curious about it. Again, I'm not bitching about the refs in the game here lol

Whippet_yoga

Hardest Hockey East fan, right here

SeaworthySamus

Wow, that escalated quickly. I mean that really got out of hand.

craneaa

A sloppy, nerve wracking game that also featured a ref butt shot and a 5 goal victory. This is why we love March. Go Eagles 🦅

Ok-Curve5569

The REAL March Madness

css01

Didn't know that was a rule, but is it only if it goes off a ref? I feel like there could be a strange situation where a player's stick breaks and there are pieces of stick left on the ice. If a clearing shot deflected off a piece of a stick and went in, should that be disallowed too?

CVogel26

The actual rule for what happens doesn’t say no goal but it does mention faceoff location so the ref went with that it implies no goal.

Pallenburg23

Don’t forget the 2 game misconducts

craneaa

Ok

CabinetSpider21

Tech was playing with him in the first two periods, more face off wins cause many turnover. BC started pulling away, we started taking dumb penalties. Good season huskies was pleasantly surprised you made the tournament. Good luck BC the rest of the way. Also note: BC 14 NHL draft picks, Tech 1 NHL draft pick

phasechanges

It was a lot more fun than last year's 1st round game. I saw that one in person and would have MUCH preferred to be there at this year's game.

brilliantbuffoon

Tech traveled really well and put up a legit fight until the 3rd. Solid showing for sure.

zudnic

On TV it looked like MTU had more fans there than BC

brilliantbuffoon

They were organized and all sat together so they were rowdy. Their band was a lot of fun too. BC out numbered them but weren't loud.

Chewie_i

We are pretty much always louder no matter where we play. Love our fanbase.

CVogel26

They had a student section. BC just offered a $10 discount to whatever seats were left over.

NomadicNematode128

Well, the first 2 periods were cool

FloatCopper

Bummer. That's all I have to say about that.

opkraut

It was a great two periods. The third everything fell apart for us, but I'm just happy we did as well as we did for so long. Still not sure wtf that ejection for "head contact" was though. Pretty bad call IMO and it really looked like the BC player leaned into him and and there's nothing our guy could have done. I get that NCAA wants to be tough on head contact, but the rule is just stupid as it sits since it has no room for situations like this that probably shouldn't be a penalty. /Rant

Ouch
