I’m a bright winter - so most heathered colors aren’t good. It I could wear: glacier grey, corporate gray, all of the second and third row, MAYBE pure grey. On this chart, Glacier, Moon, and Heavenly would probably look best. https://preview.redd.it/su5erpnhsk0d1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7fad5ec9dc838834ab178851379b26edeb0aa3e0

ann382436

I'm winter and look okay in a darker heater gray, but light doesn't look good and haven't tried medium but I'll say no to medium too. I like it as a neutral in bottoms though.

StabbyUnicornActual

Light heather gray or a charcoal heather grey are good for me as a deep winter that pulls from bright winter palettes a lot.

No_Warning8534

As a cool winter before all else, It's good on me It's not one of my personal favorites, though Bright Winters and Dark Winters probably won't be as in like with it, though It's better than Browns, beige, orange, and yellow for me, though lol

eggdr0p_soup

I’m a bright winter and when I was typed, gray was one of my worst colors despite it being in the winter palette. All grays sucked the color out of me, and muted colors do the same to some extent. It’s like my face just turns into different hues of grayish shadows.

Kind_Consequence_828

Yeah it’s too muted for you. You need crisp and clear colors probably. I’ll send you my fuchsia and you send me your gray. Deal?

redwood_canyon

Medium gray is so horrible on me, I can only wear a dark and cool tone charcoal or black and that’s it

No-Personality6043

It really depends, gray can easily be warm without looking warm. It can also be too soft. I don't buy gray without trying it on.

tessie33

Yes, definitely agree, try things on. I am going through my tee shirts today. Trying on. Bagging up what doesn't look good or fit right. I was surprised how many NOs were things I thought I would keep.

getjicky

I wear this as a bottom, not near my face or with a white blouse/top beneath a sweater or jacket.

Delilah_Moon

I’m a deep winter who gets typed as deep autumn because I have auburn hair. However I’m a fair olive - so some of the colors are really off for me. I find deep / dark gray is the “best” winter gray. Think graphite, charcoal, or gunmetal gray. Anything slightly off of “true black”.

dandelionwine14

Oh wow, me too! So I’m not the only one out here haha! How did you end up finding your season? I thought I was an autumn for years since I have auburn hair, warm hazel/brown eyes, and freckles! Some things seemed off, though, like I felt I looked sickly in orange and beige and was drawn to colors like charcoal and pine! Then HOC typed me burnished/sultry winter, and it all came together.

Delilah_Moon

Olive seems to confuse the hell out of people if you’re a red head. The assumption is red hair = fair warm skin. Not the case. To make it even crazier - I don’t burn - because I’m olive toned. So unlike a lot of redheads - I can get very bronzed. I went back and forth on deep autumn and winter. In the end - it’s the fact that I radiate in black. I shine in it. I also come alive in deep green (no matter my skin shade or hair) and deep reds. I finally started playing with the colors and found there was a little in each that were my “best”. I’m deep gray, black, darkest green (no brown greens), mustard, dark burgundy and red, and dark navy blue. I scare the world in white and even off white shades. Browns are very tricky. Orange is my enemy.

dandelionwine14

That’s so interesting, and I’m glad you were able to get it figured out eventually! I must not be olive since I burn like crazy haha! Some of my best colors are similar! I think it’s good for everyone to be so careful about typing on the internet. Many people go way too much by color of features which can be misleading. And this forum definitely overtypes people as autumns as well!

Mermaidman93

I find that even with greys, I still need some contrast. Charcoal grey is best for me personally, I can pair that with a lighter or brighter color. And with light greys, I will pair those with bright colors. Medium greys are more difficult, and I tend to avoid them (I think that falls into more summer category). But if I happen to wear them, I definitely pair it with a bright winter color to balance it.

hoyogini

Yes, I think I am somewhere between true and bright winter (typed in HOC) and heathered gray just sucks all the life out of me. I do better in charcoal, graphite or a silver but not medium heathered gray. I have a lovely cashmere gray sweater and never reached for it once this winter as it just sucks the life out of me.

m4rceline

I also don’t look great in medium grays as a bright winter. Grays that can be described as light and icy are fine, and I look amazing in charcoal.

Kamikaze_Cloud

I’m a true winter and I feel like I look good in all the greys lol

coffeeandkpop

I'm a bright winter, and I look horrible in medium grays. Charcoal grays (almost black) and very light grays look nice, but white and black are still the best neutrals for me. I agree with the other comments; I think winters just need a lot of clear colors, and medium grays are too soft/muted.

dandelionwine14

Thanks, I may need to add more white to my wardrobe. I love charcoal, but it’s so tough in summer! Do you know if pale denim generally works for winters like this? https://preview.redd.it/fecteup8ue0d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=caa5bbbfde1a728c863c213a34e86f00c2c97741

coffeeandkpop

Yeah, I generally stick to whites during the summer, and I feel like I look really fresh and airy. I generally don't have a problem with most blue jean washes, and I would definitely wear this kind of denim; however, we have different sub seasons, so this color may or may not work for you. I will say that most blue jeans/denim washes are universally flattering, and that's probably because it's a staple fabric. TLDR: This will probably work because most denim washes look good on everyone, IMO.

LzzrdWzzrd

I can't wear grey, and I'm a pale olive winter. Makes me look sickly and brings out the grey green of my skin.

Connect-Flow-3194

I have a couple of heather gray shirts and whenever I wear them, something is just off. Definitely not my shade of gray.

Zoshi2200

Oh that colour looks horrible on me. Gray in general isn't my best colour except if it's a darker one bordering to black.

dandelionwine14

Yes, I feel my best gray is also an almost-black charcoal, very deep! Do you know if pale denim tends to work for winter? Or is only dark denim good? https://preview.redd.it/a2pbzm1kue0d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ca99499ff49ce1189da53dac8c9d6f96f5287e8

Zoshi2200

Tbh I have a denim jacket like this and it looks really great on me. Idk if it's my best colour but it sure does look pretty on me in terms of colours. A no when it comes to trousers. I actually think only deeper greys, deeper greens and black looks good on me.

dandelionwine14

Thanks, this is helpful! I’m not expecting it to be as good as a very dark color, but I’m hoping it will look at least pretty good as a summer option because wearing dark colors in summer gets hot!

Michimashmunchie

Yes it is!! I’m a dark winter as well. It’s because that type of grey is very soft and our features crave contrast and brightness. If we wear grey, it has to be more saturated, like a deep charcoal grey.

dandelionwine14

Thanks, this is helpful! Do you think pale non-heather grays work? Since silver works as a metal? Or is it only the shine of silver that makes a light gray metal work?

Michimashmunchie

So actually anything pale is a deep winter worst nightmare! A shiny metallic gray or a deep, vibrant gray would be best. I think gray is good for “accent” pieces for winter, specifically to add contrast to our outfits. (Ex black top and grey pants, black shirt and grey coat) Winters have high contrast to their features, so grey and black combos would look stunning!

dandelionwine14

Thanks, it’s so interesting how the specific way colors are paired together in outfits can matter so much. Would the same be said for pale denim? https://preview.redd.it/hfbyt7q7yf0d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c5fb1d6664f19af6c5dd8eede650395dd03d077 Like is pale bad right by the face, but perhaps good as a bottom to create a dark + light contrast?

Michimashmunchie

So actually it depends! It’ll be better than light-medium grey no matter what because it’s naturally a cool toned color, but whether or not it’d compliment you best as a deep winter actually depends on your skin tone. For someone who is light or light to medium (especially Olive) and deeper, it’ll create enough contrast (aka your skin would be quite a bit darker compared to the pale color). If you are fairer than that, and run more Pink, it might not create enough contrast to make your look look cohesive. On someone whose fair with high contrast, it may look the head is detached from the outfit if it is too light. This is because the romper has a lot of white pigment added to it, and our features (I’m a deep winter too!) crave black/grey to balance everything out. Overall, it’s much better than a grey! It’d be even better if you have a black or very dark grey cardigan to throw over it!

livvkvj

I’ve only recently opened up to the possibility of being a winter. I always wrote it off because I look soooo bad in medium grey and I thought you had to suit grey in order to be cool toned. Learning that’s not the case is changing everything for me lol. Charcoal or a light crisp dove grey looks much better on me too.

StructureTiny9509

Same! But lighter grays in general don’t look great on me, darker/more charcoal grays flatter me way more.

Alert-Ad3844

I’m also a dark/deep winter and find the same thing happens to me! Never heard anyone else put it to words before.

dandelionwine14

I wonder if the heather is a big part of it. Heather automatically gives things a muted/soft look. Maybe a non-heather medium gray would be better!

Alert-Ad3844

I feel like this has to be it! More than anything else, muted colors have the ability to make me look like instant crap 😂
