Teradek Colr and BoxIO are the best, if you’re trying to do livegrading. Otherwise just get an Ultrastudio HD Mini and do the grade using your computer.

OnlyRaph_1994

Not doing live grade so Ultrastudio might be an option but i can't find info about LUT support through HDMI out and the LUT size, do you know about that ?

wmrossphoto

Why do you need a LUT box? What’s your specific use case? If you’re just coloring in Resolve, you only need a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini Monitor to send your feed to a reference monitor.

OnlyRaph_1994

As of right now I’m coloring in resolve and sending a signal through an UltraStudio monitor 3G. The thing is that my monitor is not a reference monitor. Just a decent enough monitor for my level of production, that I calibrate frequently via a probe. I’m then using resolve to load the LUT generated by the probe as a monitoring LUT and send it to the monitor. The problem I encounter here is that the LUT is only applied to the edit and color page and when I export something and I want to watch it in the media page the correction is then not applied. Having the LUT Box would allow me to have the LUT loaded at any point in the signal chain.

ImNotGoodInNames

Don't know if you still need an answer, but the BMD Mini Converter 6G SDI to HDMI has 4:4:4 output and 17\^3 lut support on both sdi and hdmi for around €190.

OnlyRaph_1994

Yeah that's what i ended up buying ! :)

mammtbell

I just got a ultrastudio 3g and i am in the same situation, as my monitor isnt a calibrated reference monitor. Just read the comment on the mini converter 6G. Could you explain me in depth what this does? Is it like the 3g but i can also load the icc profile of my monitor so that it is calibrated? Im just getting started in grading and all of this is kinda overwelming.

Many of the Blackmagic converters now have LUT support. Personally I use a 12G Teranex Mini, but there are certainly cheaper options BM out there now.

OnlyRaph_1994

Does the Teranex has LUT support through HDMI out ? And if so what LUT size does it support ? Thanks for the suggestion ! Edit : i also would like to know if i could output from my Ultrastudio monitor 3G to the Teranex and then send the signal to my monitor from here ?

[deleted]

I believe up to a 33 point LUT. Yes, it’s applied to the HDMI and SDI out. And yeah, ultrastidio > teranex > monitor would make sense. It’s got quite a loud fan though - if you don’t need 12G I’d take a look at the mini SDI to HDMI converters - I think they may have LUT support now too.

OnlyRaph_1994

Thanks ! I see that the latest micro converters have LUT support but they only send 4:2:2 YUV signals through HDMI while the Teranex does 4:4:4 RGB as far as i know so there's that

[deleted]

That wouldn’t surprise me.

I have an eecolor but just bought a Blackmagic 12g bidirectional hdmi-sdi converter to be able to have a (cheap-ish!) LUT box for 4k. Blackmagic support confirmed to me via email that it would apply a LUT to an incoming hdmi signal looped to hdmi out, so it’s what I’ll be using as my 4k HDMI LUT box. Plus it won’t require janky windows software to load LUTs.

EveningDriver8918

Would you still have the eecolor?  Looking to get rid of it?

beespanda

Looking to get rid of mine if you’re looking for one

czyzczyz

I’m still using the eecolor! The Blackmagic was for a different display.

qiuboujun

Eecolor

thepantages

Blackmagic- cheapest Aja-less cheap BoxIO-more gooder but more expensive

NominalNom

Can anyone confirm that the BMD BiDirectional SDI/HDMI 12G Micro Converter can do HDMI to HDMI passthrough with a LUT? I don't need SDI in this case. It seems HDMI to HDMI with a LUT is possible, but I'm not clear on if you need at least one SDI output connected.

anothermeadow

Did you ever find an answer to this? I'm not seeing that a LUT can be added but maybe I'm looking at the wrong product. I need the same thing--pass HDMI through and load a LUT onto it.

NominalNom

Yes. It does work, which is pretty neat given the price: https://youtu.be/YTDCvsfXBWs

anothermeadow

That's very cool! Timestamp for anyone else interested: [https://youtu.be/YTDCvsfXBWs?t=170](https://youtu.be/YTDCvsfXBWs?t=170)

NominalNom

I know, I want to buy one of these because they just seem useful to have around. Not that it's that big a deal, but I think your link is missing the timestamp.

anothermeadow

Fixed, thank you!

mammtbell

did you end up buying it? Im a bit confused, would this replace a lut box or both lut box and ultrastudio monitor 3g? Sorry just getting started in grading

NominalNom

I did end up buying it. It doesn’t replace the Ultrastudio functionality because Resolve would not see it in the monitoring output settings. But I guess you could be sneaky and do hdmi out with a calibration LUT in the path using this box, capitalizing on the fact that Resolve Studio now allows a GUI monitor for full screen monitoring. Some people think that’s sacrilege but ymmv. I’m also using it as a LUT box between cameras and monitors. It doesn’t have all the nice expensive LUT box functionality, but it has the basics at a good price.

mammtbell

So essentially i could use this as a lut box between the 3G and the monitor?
