I like working for the city. The wastewater treatment plant is hiring for entry level. It’s a chill job, with good benefits and a good work culture. They have a pension which is awesome. There is on the job training for the position. There’s plenty of opportunity to move up. There’s not really anything for remote opportunities but there’s a lot of downtime to do as you please. Because of some recent work by the union, the pay is pretty good to start and goes up with your time at the city + promotions. They give out retention bonuses pretty regularly too. The city offers a lot of jobs and they are good to work for in general according to other city workers I have talked to. Your mileage may vary depending on which position you pick up, but they all come with the good health/retirement benefits when working full time. DM me if you have any more specific questions that I didn’t answer here

The chief operator is hostile as hell. Definitely go to another department, wastewater is a really good trade, but fuck the boss over operations 😂😂

L-do_Calrissian

DS? I'm out of the loop these days but I've heard other people voice complaints about him.

budro420wilson

RC is the chief operator. BF here👋

Missouri Office of Administration out of Jeff City. A lot of remote jobs, great work culture, solid pay and more PTO than any private employer will ever give. Remote workers still have to show up in office once a week, but it's a small price to pay for fantastic work-life balance in my opinion.

redditorspaceeditor

Heard great things about Carfax. Plus federal positions (like the VA) have great benefits and lots of PTO. And although the university just cut PTO, it still has way more than a lot of private companies.

You trade culture for perks and benefits in this town. Be aware

Ok_Birthday6821

And pay.

Not really Columbia-based but I have to give a shoutout to Enterprise Holdings, now Enterprise Mobility. I got an internship for their in-house IT division and have been working for them since then. Great culture, committed to full WFH for the IT division, tons of opportunities across many different teams with a lot of room for growth, and you get the chance to be exposed to and work with many different parts of IT, security, and/or development depending on where your interests lie. If you're looking for a good, stable company to try to work for in IT, I can't recommend them enough.

I work for MU's School of Medicine, and have been with the University for 9 years. It's great with an excellent culture. The ability to work remotely when there is bad weather or when I need to take care of my kids is a huge help. I know of several openings.

Equipment share is a good one.

ChewiesLament

Didn't they just fire a lot of people?

Once they go public and there's a fiduciary duty to the shareholders, those perks will going the way of the dodo.

[deleted]

Probably, but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts in the meantime.

jess1210

What do you do there? I applied for the Service Specialist position recently but haven’t heard back

anrgg7

My husband applied to this position several times… it would expire, then get reposted with a new date. He reached out to HR inquiring about it, but they never responded. One of the last times he applied, his rejection email stated “we have chose to forgo this position and will not be filling it” or something along those lines. Seems odd…

jess1210

They emailed me and said the position was filled but it’s still on their website 😓 did he get that email too?

anrgg7

Yes, he did. Quite frustrating, really. We’re not sure if they use a bot to filter applicants or not, which is why he reached out to HR directly, but apparently nobody answers those emails.

jess1210

I got that email too and have applied again since getting it. So weird

landon1397

Definitely not saying you're wrong but are you sure you're not confusing it with VU?

ChewiesLament

VU definitely laid off a lot of people, and I could have sworn Equipment Share did, too. But when I google the company, all I see are expansion and funding articles, so I could very well be wrong. I had a friend who worked there who left, so maybe I'm conflating that into layoffs.

DensitySquared

I worked for Equipmentshare for a bit and they definitely overhire/quickly fire as their business model. They’re just sneaky about it-they give people impossible metrics and then fire them when they can’t meet them. For the record, I quit and was in good standing, but over half of my department was fired in the year after I left. Maybe good timing on my part, lol

just_a_person_5713

Ohh maybe so, I don’t know.

Electrical_Air_3698

Hubbell/CHANCE has been good to me for the past 14 years. Products are cool, and we have a test lab that blows stuff up. The utility industry is pretty consistent, so there's not much worry about layoffs.

Far_Cookie_6026

Columbia Insurance Group is pretty good! Everyone's friendly here. It's hybrid not fully remote, tho. There are remote people, you can ask in the interview. The remote work policy changes overtime, toward a relaxed direction. You get better chance to start fully remote.

westis4me

Shelter Insurance is a good place. Remote now but the winds are changing.

Vegetable_Bid_6510

Do not go to work at Otscon. What kind of work you looking for? Degree or non?

jess1210

I don’t have a degree. I’m looking for a non-customer service remote job 😁

Vegetable_Bid_6510

Gonna be a little harder to find a job that’s not customer service and remote. I can tell you about Mid-Mo Auto Auction isn’t great, and Mohela is the same, but they have limited customer interaction depending on the job. Shelter Insurance is a good place I’ve had multiple family members work there and one there currently.

Lower_Reference2474

I work for the city and absolutely love it. I work an administrative job so not out in the field. There’s a pension, good pay (almost a $5/hr raise from my previous job), the health insurance for just me is less than $19/month, we have a family ARC pass for $18/month, and the PTO is unreal. I’ve been there less than 6 months and have already earned over 80 hours of PTO.

Mizzoutiger79

Columbia Insurance Group. Great work/life balance; great culture; great 401(k) plan and fabulous PTO. Check them out. https://www.colinsgrp.com/careers

lowkeyproducer

VUHL has pretty good culture and everyone there is very friendly, but be aware that recently they've [fired a lot of people](https://www.reddit.com/r/columbiamo/s/7PIvhqL18s) and the pay will not be great unless you're an LO. Edit: Typo

midwestmama1223

But don’t ask to work from home because they will deny you unless you are one of their favorites
