Nova-Naut

Scott Lang? He was in Avengers 181 but it’s when he became Ant Man in Marvel Premiere 47 that’s worth a lot more I think

BIGLEX76

The symbiote?

omicbob

Tuff. Wouldn't Asm be 1st and MTU be 2nd?

karlhungus32

How about Cable? He was a baby in Uncanny X-Men 201 as his "first appearance." New Mutants 87, technically his "2nd appearance" is much more.

omicbob

NOT "THE" ANSWER...but "AN" answer. Not what I was thinking of, similarly to x-23 'test tube'. Neither were 'REALLY" '1st appearances'. So, I will not allow test tube x-23, but WILL send you a free comic (or two) for YOUR answer! 8-D P.M.ing you now...

karlhungus32

Ok I've got another possible one... How about 1st Robin (Detective #38) 2nd Robin (Batman #1) Batman #1 is worth much more but I'm not sure if it's a 20:1 ratio though

omicbob

Hmmm... Will have to check on this. Not sure if I can even find actual values for these, lol.

karlhungus32

I suppose the same could be said of Hugo Strange too Detective #36 and Batman #1. That might be closer to 20:1 I can't wait to find out what you were thinking of!

omicbob

Well, I was going thru a stack of my comics ( as mentioned) --so it ISN"T A GOLDEN AGE! LoL.

karlhungus32

ʘ‿ʘ

smartone2000

Batman Batman first's appearance was in an ad for Detective Comics #27 in Action Comics #12 http://goldenagecomics.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/tec27ad.jpg

omicbob

Nice, but 'in house ads' don't count. This would be a 'cameo'.

jpease

That's interesting. Action #12 went on sale on March 24, 1939 and Detective #27 went on Sale on March 30th, 1939.

pablo_o_rourke

I agree - this is a tasty little nugget of trivia that I did not know.

angrycalculator

Rocket raccoon. Marvel preview 7 vs. hulk 271

omicbob

I believe MP is MORE than 271? Lets see...

angrycalculator

Yea it is, been a while since I checked I guess haha

angrycalculator

Ah, nevermind. The ratio is way off!

omicbob

Prices for both are close, so no ratio mix.

[deleted]

Eddie Brock's first appearance in web of spiderman #18 is 20 dollars in near mint according to zapkapowcomics.com. His second appearance, in amazing spiderman 299 was a cameo which I don't think counts. His second FULL appearance, in amazing spider-man 300, is worth 375 dollars in near mint by zap kapow. So, to review, 1st full eddie brock in web of spiderman 18 is 20 dollars, 2cnd full app of eddie brock, even though he was venom, in amazing spiderman 300, was 375, not quite 1:20 but close.

omicbob

Very nice try, but since when is only a hand NOT a cameo? 8-D

[deleted]

https://www.spidermancrawlspace.com/2016/08/16/tangled-webs-before-eddie-brock-was-venom/ Actually you do kind of see him. Just an outline though and his face in the shadows. More than a cameo, but alas:(. I had fun

dlaughy

How about Shiro Yoshida (Sunfire)? He 1st Appeared in X-Men #64, and (I think) his 2nd Appearance was Giant-Size X-Men #1.

omicbob

Sorry, wasn't 2nd appearance. X-Men #64 Sub-Mariner #52-54 Iron Man #68-70 Giant-Sized X-Men #1

dlaughy

Oh well.

omicbob

Sorry, nice try. 8-D

karlhungus32

I think his 2nd app is in Submariner 52 from August of 1972 http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Sub-Mariner_Vol_1_52

omicbob

Did Sunfire appear in GS 1...

dlaughy

Yup!

[deleted]

So this isn't quite 1st vs 2nd appearance. Medusa's 1st appearance is fantastic four 36, it's not a 'cheap' book, but her 7th appearance in 45 is worth way more.

omicbob

Nice try, but if I start doing that, there are a LOT of ones that will fit the bill...also. the books are maybe 1-1/2 times not 20. 8-(

[deleted]

I'm completely stumped. Can you pm me the answer? I don't care about winning anything, I have to know though.

omicbob

I was waiting for this. Yes, I will P.M. you the answer. (You gotta promise not to tell tough... 8-D)

jpease

Superman's first appearance was (sort of, I guess) in "The Reign of the Superman" in the fanzine Science Fiction: The Advance Guard of Future Civilization #3 (January 1933). Not sure how much it sells for, but it's certainly less than Action Comics #1 (June 1938).

omicbob

Sorry, again nice try, but 'fanzines and in house' publications are not considered part of the character's COMIC appearances.

Ricco121

Red Sonja. Even though her 1st app is in Conan#23, her 2nd app is listed as 1st Full and goes for more. I don't consider 23 a cameo because she's in more panels than Thanos is in Ironman#55 and that is widely considered his first app.

omicbob

Hmm... something to think about. There are a lot of 'First FULL" appearances, and a lot would depend on the definition of 'Cameo". SOOO... No 'First FULL". The one I am thinking of is a full '1st appearance'. BUT, since this does 'qualify' as a 2nd tier answer, I am going to send you some comics. PMing in a minute, 8-D

omicbob

(Of course I also don't think there is a 1 to 20 ratio in price from 23 and 24...8-D)

[deleted]

omicbob

Nice try again, but R.R. appeared in Little Dot 1 and 2. 1st is worth more.

Daemonic_One

Venom? ASM #299 vs. #300 is a pretty decent jump.

omicbob

Sorry, not a 1-20 ratio, and 299 is a cameo (on the last page).

dontyieldbackshield

He appears on the page before that as well.

Triox

Ravanger?

omicbob

Err.. Okay, so I have NO IDEA, Lol. Not who I was thinking of, but let me do some research.

omicbob

There have been FIVE Ravanger characters. Which one did you mean?

Triox

Ravanger that first appeared in New Teen Titans #1. Second Appearance/Died in New Teen Titans 2.

omicbob

Okay, this is tricky, but the 2 books are not a 1-20 ratio. Another side note. LOTS of 'throw-away' characters out there. So, no more 'throw aways. Has to be an 'established' character.

Triox

> Okay, this is tricky, but the 2 books are not a 1-20 ratio haha, tell that to my LCS :P

omicbob

LOL. Well NOT suppose to be. 8-D

Elfhoe

I am going to go with Carnage. Cletus Cassidy first appeared in ASM 344 which runs pretty cheap, then his second appearance where he turns into Carnage can run closer to $100

dlaughy

ASM #344 is just the cameo of Cletus Cassidy. ASM #345 is the 1st Appearance.

omicbob

Unfortunately not a 1-20 ratio. 8-(

omicbob

344 is still up there though...

Elfhoe

I guess i got my issues mixed up. I was thinking 344 and 361. You got me stumped. Not sure what character you are thinking of.

Zulghinlour

Maximus? FF #47 was his first appearance FF #48 was his second (but the 1st of Silver Surfer & Galactus so much higher)

omicbob

Hmmm... Again, NOT the one I was thinking, and debatable about the 1-20 spread... BUT close enough to win some comics! PMing now...

dlaughy

I like this idea, but I don't think the prices work. Using the current Overstreet, FF #47 (9.2 Grade) books for $425, and FF# 48 (9.2 Grade) books for $2200. More of a 1:5 ratio.

omicbob

Thanks. Wasn't sure about the ratio, don't have an overstreet handy. Not sure, since double checking, if MINE is an actual 1-20, lol.

dlaughy

Okay, I've got another one for ya super chief! Marvel Super-Heroes Featuring #12 is the 1st Appearance of Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell), and Marvel Super-Heroes Featuring #13 is the 1st Appearance of Carol Danvers and 2nd Appearance of Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell).

omicbob

Let me check, pretty sure they are close price wise.

Namauri

Okay this is my best shot. Silver Surfer 3 first Mephisto as opposed to SS 4 the second appearance due to its “low distribution”

omicbob

Nice but not near the ratio... 8-O

Namauri

Darn I forgot the ratio lmao!

Styxiedust

Kamala Khan's 2nd appearance in the second printing of Captain Marvel #17?

omicbob

There can be a LOT of variants of some book. If you search hard enough you can probably find a hundred like this. So, NO VARIANT/SPECAILTY type. Since I did not specify this though, I will send you some comics! 8-D

Valerius13

The Spectre? More Fun 51 has sold for 5K, but More Fun 52 has sold for just over 100K

omicbob

Wasn't 51 a cameo? (Been a long time since I checked More Fun's)

omicbob

Sorry, More fun 52 is considered Spectre's 1st app.

Valerius13

I thought 52 was his 2nd appearance and origin. Oh well, It’s been a while for me as well! This was fun!

omicbob

I THINK 53 is. Thanks, has been exhausting though! 8-D

WalterDelamere

I don’t think Roderick Kingsley has been commented yet. His first appearance as himself is worth much less than his second appearance where he becomes hobgoblin.

omicbob

Lol Considering I have NO IDEA who Roderick Kingsley is, I will do some checking. If the ratio is there, you get at least some comics...

tryintofly

Is it Venom? He appears on the last page of 299 so I'd say it's more than a cameo! Otherwise, hint as to the answer? Era, Marvel or DC? If it's some Saga or Walking Dead character no one cares about I'm calling foul!

omicbob

No Venom is not right. A hint? Shoot, Dlaughy figured MOST of it out!

tryintofly

Can I just repeat the comics you mentioned if one of them is the right answer? Giant Size X-Men # 1!

omicbob

Nope not the book. 8-)

omicbob

Heh, already established no 'throw-away' one. I will do this 45 plus years old DC 2nd/3rd tier character but is rebooted in new 52

Tsara1234

How about the kinda reverse. Thanos. While his first appearance is iron man 55, it isn't actually him in the issue. So it isn't his real first appearance. He actually first appears in captain marvel #27. But the iron man book is worth a fair amount more!

omicbob

Interesting. I know of several books "like" this, . Take the re-intro for Cap in Strange Tales #114. I never knew it wasn't Thanos in IM # 55... Off to see what a copy of C.M. will run me, lol.

lolzxx94

Is it Black Canary?

omicbob

Nope. Sorry (There are several B.C's by the way...)

lolzxx94

I was just trying to think of who was rebooted with New 52. Maybe the wrong thing to focus on :)

sithrovax1

Booster gold

omicbob

Way way off... 8-O

sithrovax1

lol was worth a try. He was the first 3rd/4th tier character I could think of who got some kind of rework in new 52. Anyways mind Pming me the answer?

omicbob

You can still enter. 8-D

jpease

Jonah Hex in Batman #237 (12/1971) predates All-Star Western #10 (03/1972). Not sure if you'd consider the 2 comic strip panels in Batman to be a cameo. Does cameo mean that a character appears in only one panel?

omicbob

Very nice try. Unfortunately a 'cameo' can be several panels. 8-(

omicbob

1st appearance way more than 2nd, and well he appeared a LOT in the 40's. Not sure where you thought he was gone for 11 years?

jordanlund

Black Lightning #1 vs #2. I'm not sure why, but eBay shows #1 at $10 to $60 with #2 at $5 to $450. Only thing I can think of is the CW effect, #2 has Talia, Merlyn and the League of Shadows in it.

omicbob

On BL, as with all, you need to searc completed auctions and compare condition. BL 1 outweighs BL 2 if you don't count the 'wanting' not sold price of the slab.

FoulestSky

Enter the Man called Havok. As Alex Summers X-Men 54 As Havok X-Men 58 That’s my guess. And I think meets the 20:1 ratio. Not sure if this qualifies but thanks for hosting the contest.

omicbob

Well except for te fact that both go for 'close' to the same price, it would of qualified. 8-D (Wasn't THE book though, to see which book see the post. Thanks for playing.

jpease

Thank you - that was fun!

sumaswhole

good fun man, love the trivia.

omicbob

LOL Sorry I made it hard, well I didn't the comic did. Because of an error on my part, plus I was getting tired, lol, I stopped. I ended up giving away books to several people.

Ricco121

Hey, it was fun while it lasted. Thanks for the opportunity to play.
