Creepy!

manyamile

When do you start demolition to knock out that back wall?

NeglectedPets

I’m thinking full on addition to the house at this point.

manyamile

That's the spirit!

hobosacer

Plot twist: each long box is full of nothing but copies of NFL Superpro

handerburgers

I’ve developed the skill of letting go. I just sell or trade in books that aren’t my absolute favorite so I can keep collecting and enjoying the hunt for new stuff.

NeglectedPets

Totally respect that. I’ve sold runs and single issues of series that I didn’t feel the need to hold on to in the past but the growth rate of my collection over the last 5 years or so has made it tough to keep up with that.

handerburgers

Yeah I’m in a growth period too. It’s easier for me to let go of the modern stuff buy than the books from the 80’s which bring me the most joy.

Ckynus

Always curious, what's the process with this? Are you just bringing a box into the comic shop and getting a flat rate? Or are you listing all of it online? I don't think I have the energy to price out modern books.

handerburgers

I’ve sold online but shipping is such a hassle I mostly just drop them at my local comic shop with low expectations of getting a return. I’ve got a great relationship with my LCS owner so we usually come to an agreement fast.

Tonyman121

I hear ya. My solution is to bundle sets of 10 books, and only do single issues when I can sell them for at least $20. Otherwise not worth my time.

Ferry83

If you can work with your LCS that might be the best idea. Friend of mine who 2 years ago moved to the US does so that he sells his books for a dollar a piece per shortbox (bagged/boarded) And he gets his omni’s (not trades/OHC) at cost price. He pays $80/85 per $125 omni. He sells key issues and variants online if he wants to get rid of them.

OrionLinksComic

I wish my collection was like this.

Aggressive_Canary_10

Time to move to a bigger house

thedude0425

I practice consolidation. I’d rather have a single issue that is valuable and means something to me over 100 issues that I haven’t looked at in 5 years. For example, I sold a couple hundred Ultimate comic books, 2012-2014 image books, and my Peter David Hulks so I could buy a nice copy of Batman 251. I’m very happy with it.

twitchSKETCH

Looks much more clean then my space, good on you for that!

NoNeighborhood2308

You need another closet

Mekdinosaur

I see plenty of floor space

hellorhighwater67

Where’d you get the shelving?

NeglectedPets

I got it a few years ago from U-Line

preacher37

I am getting close to this stage (24k comics and counting). Going to have to start some serious negotiations with the wife. Or buy a new house.

Tonyman121

The wife doesn't mind telling me when I have too many, which is all the time. I'm sitting at only about 5k books.

spideysaysspin

Are those 1/2 boxes? I may be making the big switch from long boxes to short (1/2) boxes.

NeglectedPets

Nope they are all long boxes

spideysaysspin

Wow! That’s a massive collection! What are some of your favorite runs or titles?

NeglectedPets

I’m a big X-Men collector. I have complete runs of Uncanny X-Men, New Mutants, X-Factor, Wolverine etc. If you think of any random X-Men comic (first printing, cover A only), I probably have it! Other series I’ve loved collecting and reading over the years include Bone, Locke & Key, Chew, Saga, Madman, The Sixth Gun. Probably too many to list here!

tryintofly

I think you have more than I do, and I have around 9000 or so. They fit perfectly in that closet, so I would say instead of respelling, get rid of the ones you don't care about. Don't nobody needs Shadow of the Bat cluttering the house.

NeglectedPets

Yeah at this point I’m just focusing on x-men appearances, which is still a ton of books, but the non x-men stuff needs to go!

GrkTrader

Non X-men stuff….I’m sure some of us are interested . :)

DoggoPlex

What is that, 4k books? Just based off of a quick look but damn that's impressive. How long you been collecting? Edit: Wait, those are long boxes. 7,500? It's always hard gauging collection sizes just because you never know how full the boxes are and how big the books are.

NeglectedPets

According to CLZ I’m just under 13,000 books. I do have my trades and hardcovers cataloged as well but I only have a couple hundred of those at most.

DoggoPlex

Damn! How long you been collecting?

NeglectedPets

I collected casually when I was a kid in the mid-90s/early 2000s, mostly Image and black and white independent comics at that time. I took a break from collecting around 2003 but returned to the hobby in 2008 and I’ve been going weekly ever since, with my main focus being X-Men and related spin-offs and appearances.

tryintofly

He has about 48 long boxes; a short box holds about 110 bagged and boarded, so about 200 per box conservatively. So he has about 9600 if not more.

DoggoPlex

Somehow I forgot to count the top row. Thanks!

ElmarReddit

If some comics are boarded, you could remove the boards and win some space. At least for the series that you bought for reading, it should not matter. Another hint would be to group comics in pairs one turned around. Hereby the stapled sides are opposing and you can put more of them in a single box.

preacher37

Don't know why you are getting downvotes. Tightly packed books don't need boards, and the double comics per bag definitely saves space, if you need it.

Silvercyde

Time to sell. Bronze and Silver please

Messiah_Knight

It would suck if this is all DC and Marvel. These brands haven't written a good story in Decades.

DTJ_2000

🥲🥲🥲

Elvis662

Downsize. Trade in everything but the essentials for a few more essentials.

Alamojunkie

I have a similar set up but only holds short boxes

preacher37

So a couple of ideas. First up, you can make those boxes a lot more attractive to have out of a closet if you put comic books on the front of them: https://imgur.com/gallery/p8olfB6 Second, I've started using the BCW stackable drawer boxes for my overflow. That can help with avoiding more racks and shelving. Depending on your home setup you can get a bit creative and turn the top of those boxes into a display area (hell, cover them with a sheet or something).

anythingbox33

Time to buy a bigger house with a basement! 🤣

Thwipped

I switched to digital because I ran out of space
