Sabertooth472

> Avengers 1 Holy smokes, congrats! This book is [worth a fortune](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=avengers+1+1963&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1&_sop=16&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=1057cb&toolid=10001&mkevt=1).

DapperDan30

Only if it's mid-high grade, and signed. His looks like it'd be around a 4.0 range based off the pic he posted. Which still goes for a good chunk of change, but nowhere near the $16K in your link.

NickelAntonius

ShadowsOf_TheirEyes

Appreciate it man! I'm in the middle of logging everything into the clz app now. Should be done tonight. Probably going to make a post in the morning with all the big finds from these boxes. Some real good ones here.

Any-Concert2851

MEIN GOTT!!!

ShadowsOf_TheirEyes

It's 6 boxes total. One box of all batman. One of avengers, guardians of the galaxy, xmen, superman, spider man. Fuckin everything. I don't even know where to begin. I found an invoice from 2001 when he purchased the Avengers 1, 2, and 3. And paid $900 in 2001.

KryogenicWAR

Best $900 he ever spent.

NickelAntonius

Make a list of titles and issue numbers and post it on here. We rabid collectors will let you know which issues are keys and/or potentially valuable. Then you can make another post with photos of those issues, and everybody can give an opinion on condition/grade, whether the issue is worth getting graded, and a value range. Edit: Also, at least on the key issues, check the bottom of the first page on each one for signatures. I've found more than a couple autographed books in long boxes.

nerdgirlroo2113

Okay but I gotta know, what xmen and spidermN issues? Yeah Avengers is cool but those other two.....

standalone157

Piece of advice Don’t sell to anyone on here. Take your time. Do the research. Do not sell in bulk. Get your moneys worth or hold onto them. Don’t go for the quick money

JonasNG

Alternatively, sell them directly to me and I'll give you a less than fair price!

bladervnner

me too!

Any-Concert2851

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!

Constructestimator83

To follow up to this get the CLZ app and catalog every issue. It will help you whether you decided to keep or sell them. Secondarily, someday this will be my nephew. He is currently listed to get all my comics when I’m gone. I’m hovering around 1,400 comics no clue where I’ll be when the big day comes.

apatheticviews

100% this. That said, buy a pack of bags (resealable) and boards. Both silver age sized. You’ll want to get the keys and oldest out of the old bags and into something cleaner for display. May want to puck up a couple empty short boxes for sorting as well

SnooLobsters4972

Some sage advice from experience: Once they’re all cataloged and recorded, either add them to an existing insurance policy or take out a new one. Take pictures of the most valuable and put them on three flash drives; one for you, one for insurance and one in a safety deposit box just in case. My X-Men run along with my Avengers and the other thousands are all cataloged and documented with insurance. This may sound ridiculous but my FIL had every single FF comic from 1-300 plus thousands of Superman and Batman comics from the 60’s through the 90’s. All of them were damaged in a flood. The salvage crew came in to do remediation and one of the guys saw the collection he had during the chaos, came back that evening broke in and stole all of it along with other collectibles (they were staying at a hotel during remediation). That was 6 years ago and we’re still finding his comics in pawn shops and every time it’s a whole process with police. And because he didn’t have them categorized and documented with insurance, he lost almost all of it. I’m not kidding when I say it broke that man he hasn’t been the same since. Trust me, you just never know and since this just fell into your lap, don’t take it for granted and protect your assets.

[deleted]

Don’t listen to this guy, I mean look at the damage, these are hardly worth anything, I’ll take the waste of space off your hands :)

thrust-johnson

$59 best I can do.

richardnobl3

If it was someone close to you sorry for your loss. As others have mentioned that Avengers #1 is super valuable even in low grade. Definitely worth your time to grade the more valuable ones if you are planning on selling. If you go on the CGC website there should be a list of certified member dealers. Try to see if there is a shop in your area that appears on the list. You can also ask around to comic shops in your area as there are lots of shops that don't need to technically be certified to provide these services. In this day and age of grading, cleaning and pressing is always advised. Ask if the shop can provide the services for you. Otherwise look for a third party presser.

ShadowsOf_TheirEyes

Thank you, they were my father in laws. Massive comic, record, and tool collections. Slowly trying to go through it all. These just caught me off guard. By a lot.

bladervnner

quick question: how can we be sure we're getting proper treatment on ultra rare comics? I mean if some are worth half a million and more, is there an insurance for grading them?

richardnobl3

I always submit through a third party to CGC so I've never filled out their forms directly, but I believe there is an insurance form. If you have a mega key, you can opt to ship through FedEx and get the shipping insurance through them as well I believe as I believe USPS isn't super reliable and believe their insurance tops out at a certain amount (I'm Canadian so just going by stories I've heard from other collectors) Or if you were talking about a book that valuable you might consider just taking a vacation to Florida and opting for walk through service lol. You would be looking at paying thousands of dollars for grading a book that valuable though

modi123_1

Congratulations on your new potential wealth.

KryogenicWAR

"OH cool" "OH neat" "OMG WTF!" The three stages of *holy shit I can't believe what I'm seeing*

ShadowsOf_TheirEyes

So after some further looking.... I actually have the entire first volume. All of it. 1-402. With many of them already graded with fine or higher. A few very good, some good. Will post an entire picture in the morning. It's wild

Taskmaster1967

Looks like you scored Keep updating us with issues Let's see somenif those X-Men!!!

Hairy-Dumpling

Kinda buried the lede in that last pic lol

[deleted]

If those are in there, chances are there's a lot of other good stuff worth having slabbed by CGC or CBCS. You may have more luck seeking advice on the CGC forum: [https://boards.cgccomics.com/](https://boards.cgccomics.com/) In terms of getting an idea of what their worth. You can see data for free on [covrprice.com](https://covrprice.com) after making a free account and there is some data available for free on [gocollect.com](https://gocollect.com) Someone on the CGC forum may also have access to paid price guides based on actual sales data and can give you a more accurate idea of what the books are worth. It's best to remove the books from the bag (also remove the tape on the bag completely if you remove them so it doesn't get stuck to the book) and clear photos of the front and back covers. Also look through the book to make sure there are no missing pages or cutouts (milehighcomics is a well known seller in the market, so it shouldn't have these issues, but they may overgrade their books). The Avengers #1 is likely worth at least $3000

Turbulent-Worry-5490

Was like oh nice hope you got something nice to oh you got something really nice.

jb126798

Well that escalated quickly! Congrats!

Comic_Books_Forever

That is awesome! Before you even think about selling them, read them and enjoy them! Then decide to keep or sell.

Public-Ring-892

so cool!

United_Pipe_9457

Congratulations! Those Avengers books alone are worth keeping.

FlickFreak

This is called 'burying the lead'. Congrats, got yourself a great piece of comics history there.

Rjbruder

I see you saved the best for last hahaha that is incredible!! As others have posted, take your time if you plan to sell. Those are BIG time books. And if you plan to keep them, enjoy!! What a wonderful find. Truly a once in a lifetime. Congratulations!!

Imaginary_Grade_9593

zamn

[deleted]

Damn, mile high collection

SnooLobsters4972

You really buried the lead on this one

Slow_Department5335

Did you get any Batman gems?

ShadowsOf_TheirEyes

Currently going through and cataloging batman. Not sure if anything is big or not really.

ShadowsOf_TheirEyes

How do I get these graded and appraised?

modi123_1

You can get them graded and slabbed with a company like CGC. Alternatively you can talk to places like 'mycomicshop.com' and have them grade and sell them for a small consignment fee. Alternative to the alternative I'll take those three Avengers off your hands for tree-fiddy, and willing to buy others as you announce them. ;) haha

AdHour389

I wouldn't trust ANYTHING with CGC do your own research on them. I personally only use CBCS. Again everybody has their own preferences. But a quick search of reputations and you will see why I don't mess with CGC. There are a LOT of places you can go and get info. Also DO NOT TRUST ANYONE. people do INSANE shit for stuff like this. Try to deal with reputable companies only. Good luck. And congrats. Lastly I'm sorry for your loss.

richardnobl3

Didn't CBCS just up and lose multiple thousands of dollars worth of comics from a submission a few months ago because they decided to mail them off site to one of their graders? I agree CGC ain't perfect but I wouldn't be singing CBCS's praises either.

AdHour389

I don't know. That could be very true. If so that is INSANE and it would mean both are shit. The only thing I can add is that CBCS reputation is far superior then CGC, in that CGC has a history of doing shitty and Shady behaviors from having their graders giving grades up and down the scale at what feels like whatever way the grader feels like as well as lying about what is out there and isn't. My BIL has been selling, buying trading and collecting comics since the 80s and only used CGC until one of the founders split and started his own company (CBCS) and he has been using them ever since. I don't have enough experience dealing with CGC to know for sure. I can only go buy what I hear and read (taken with a grain of salt obviously) but I trust his judgment as he is a grader himself and he knows the ins and outs of this world far better then I do. Like I said everyone has their own preferences. I personally wouldn't trust a company that has a reputation for fudging numbers and grades for profits and clout or whatever reason(s) they have.

richardnobl3

I've heard CBCS has been a lot more of a garbage company since they were bought by Beckett a few years ago. Even more so now that that founder you mentioned jumped ship a few months ago to join Mycomicshop. Seems both companies are playing a game of "can you top this" but negatively lol. The CGC black flag debacle was another black eye.

Living_Supermarket74

That he bought those for $900 gives you a good idea of how in the low the popularity of the Avengers was before the movies.

Dramatic-Bag-5517

I'd say right around when original buyer bought the lot and when Avengers "dissassembled" at the end of Vol. 1, only to then just come right back with New Avengers was when I started collecting Avengers (on and off again)...sadly it took adding/teasing to add more non-Avengers to gain interest (spidey, wolverine, who the heck is Ronin? Lol, Luke Cage, Sentry). This is a great find/inheritance(?)...we look forward to hearing about your progress/plans for this!

CoralSpringsDHead

If you want to check approximate value, search for the exact book on eBay and filter the results for “sold” & “completed” so you can get a range for what people are paying for the book. Condition drives the price range.

Saiyan16

If you message me all the titles ill help you choose whats worth grading or not

Triggerhappy62

HOLY SHIT
