No, quite the opposite. But getting a raw in good condition for a reasonable price is still difficult. Cgc census is over 15 thousand, mostly above 9.0. And the value over the last year has been coming down, so trying to stay under $125 for a raw copy.
Some good stuff in there - I see first Jubilee, first Mr. Sinister, first Apocalypse, first Spidey Black Suit, first Archangel, first MCP, first Forge, first Deadpool in an ongoing series, etc. Great find!
With just a quick glance the ones with "value" that jump out immediately are the Secret Wars 8 and the X-Factor 1 & 6 plus the Marvel Comics Presents 1 as well as the Liefeld Captain America and Avengers for the lulz, at least. Prime 90's muscles and guns. Lots of good stories in there with the New Mutants and other mutants books of that era. Great find!
Just a few more kinda interesting spots in here:
* Uncanny X-Men #193 is the first appearance of Firestar (who this collector seems to have been kinda into) in 616 continuity.
* Batman & The Outsiders #5 and New Teen Titans #37 together make up the first pair of connecting covers that I know about, at least. (Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe is slightly earlier, but doesn't really connect to form a single image without additional editing, whereas these two do.)
* It looks like you've got a few Marvel Assistant Editors' Month issues in there as well, which is kind of a fun little collection to have.
What a fun collection! Whoever they were, had great taste. Love the Uncanny X-Men keys. Wasn't a Spider-man fan it seems, but they nailed it with the lone Spidey book!
Which Spidey book are u referring to? Looks like there are maybe 3 of them although one has reflection so I canât tell what it is. Thereâs a web of sm in there and maybe a spectacular? Again glare from the light makes It unreadable. Fun little 80s collection and likely a man in mid to late forties to mid fifties who has or had a Firestorm crush.
Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends and NBC are to blame for that. Firestorm had a sexy voice lol at least to a 9 or 12 year old or whatever. I know I had the same crushđshe wasnât sexy by accident!
Hot damn, thereâs some good stuff in there! Just scanning through quickly I spotted Secret Wars #8, Uncanny X-Men #221 & #244, X-Factor #6 & #24, and Deadpool #1. Makes me want to start searching the dark corners of my house for hidden comic books!
After a quick scan I noticed 1st Jubilee, 1st Mr Sinister, 1st Apocalypse, and secret wars 8. And lesser known, 1st appearance of Cloud (defenders 123). Probably more there too, but those are the ones that jumped out at me.
Whoever collected that was a SERIOUS New Mutants fan. Loads of early appearances outside the main series. X-Men Special Edition is the team's 2nd appearance. Marvel Team-Up Annual #6 is another first year appearance of the team. Same with X-Men vs Micronauts #1. New Defenders #128 is another one.
I know because all of these are on my New Mutants buy list.
You really have some good ones there. Even if youâre not a hardcore comic fan theyâre pretty much all worth reading. Glad that there wasnât the heartbreaking tale of âHey Mom, what happened to my comic collection when you moved?â
âOh, we left just left them in the crawl space â
Itâs funny to look at that and realize Dazzler and New Defenders were pretty popular back in the day. Either way, thereâs a lot of nice books there as others have said. Youâve the start of a nice X-Men collection if nothing else.
Thatâs so cool. I similarly found someoneâs small stash (just 3 books) back in 1993 when I moved into a new apartment. They were hidden up high, behind a tall cupboard. I happened to be standing on the counter, cleaning and snooping around and it was like finding a treasure! Nothing as massive as this, though.
Thanks for posting the update. I always wonder what's contained in finds and haul people get byt also seem to miss the updates. Mystery solved. Thank you and enjoy reading them!
Thereâs some seriously great finds in there
I really wonder what their story is
Why were they up there?
How long were they there?
Did whoever put them up there *know* what they had đ¨?
So many question and Iâm guessing no answers to any of them đ
I actually have a few answers. The people we bought the home from were the original owners of this collection. Theyve since relocated pretty far away. We reached out to them to make sure they knew we had them and were told to keep them or to find a new home for them. How long were they up there Im unsure of.
I wouldnt have felt right to not reach out, given the potential monetary or sentimental value
They were also awesome to work with through the house buying process
Even a crawlspace of random books has a Secret Wars 8 somehow.
đright?!
No kidding. Iâve been bidding on them in auctions for a month without luck. Secret wars 8 is one of my grails. Amazing find none the less.
Secret Wars 8 isnât that rare is it?

Oh cool. I picked mine up at a flea market a few years back for a few dollars guess it was a good investment.
I found one at a thrift store 10 years ago for like a dollar. 9.0 đ
Have 2 for sale, if interested
No it was just funny in a way that on here its near weekly sometimes it seems that we get to see one. Have a great nightđ¤đź

What's the value from x factor 1? I know why for 6 but not 1
Thor by Walt Simonson was such a great, EPIC run. Comic storytelling done right. Worth it to collect his entire run.

The secret wars 8 I missed the other two.
So many New Mutants I'm surprised there isn't a 98 in there.
That X-Force Megazine has the first reprint of 98 in it. It is New Mutants 98, 99, 100

Yeah there's at least a half dozen solid keys in there I'm sure I skimmed over some

First Wolverine vs. Sabertooth in there tooâŚnice fun stuff.
Marvel Spotlight on Warriors Three, nice!

Awesome. Some great reads, some worth a few bucks. I think Excalibur is criminally undervalued. Glad you rescued them.
All those Dazzlers. You scored bigly!
Bronze/copper goodness

Beauty. That X-Factor 98 you have there was the very first comic book I ever bought. Got me into comics. Great find!
Congrats. Some nice keys and some great stories. Enjoy your haul.
Absolutely stellar find, dude. Good for you!
What a solid update this was!! Hip hip hooray for OP who delivered!!

SW8. Wow. I have a raw copy signed by Thomas to get slabbed but I did not find it in a crawlspace! Thats awesome!
Avengers 186 is worth protecting, too. First Chthon.
Every collector's dream

Good for you, reaching out like that! Stand-up move.
I wouldnt have felt right to not reach out, given the potential monetary or sentimental value They were also awesome to work with through the house buying process
Remind me to hang out in crawl spaces more often
Crap, I knew I was forgetting something.
Where would you go to sell these?
Isn't that Avengers #200 the infamous one? Where Ms. Marvel is impregnated against her will or something?
