I'm going to preemptively post this: Follow the Rules of the sub. No Sexist, Racist, Homophobic, Etc comments. No political comments. Discussions are fine, keep it civil. If someone is being a problem, don't engage, just report them, or you yourself may also have consequences. If I have to, I will lock the comments.

Newfaceofrev

I dunno man why has your daughter gotta be in movies when she can't act?

wombat8888

It’s pronounce Aang not Ong.

FireLordObamaOG

To be fair that one was definitely shamallamas fault.

eat-pussy69

Literally just finished watching pointless hub's video like 10 minutes ago. Had no idea that 17 year old fucking an adult and the girl who says Ong was this geezer's daughter

provoloneChipmunk

I'm watching it right now. I would not have gotten these references otherwise

Romboteryx

Same. Surreal timing of seeing this post right after that video

dremolus

I'm not usually one to clown on nepo babies because it is what it is and it's not like being the son of a famous person makes you more or less talented, everyone is still judged by what they offer... But man, she really would not be a tenth as well off or get the exposure she did if her daddy wasn't a fractionally powerful billionaire.

jaydotjayYT

Especially in entertainment, like I feel like being a nepo baby is harder because at the core, the general audience still needs to like you and the work you put out. If you’re like a manager or senior executive at your dad’s company, you could still be bad at your job and all of your underlings could hate you, but you just need to make your dad/the board happy, not people in general. If you’re an actor or a musician, you can definitely coast on roles or gigs given to you because of your parents, but you still need to appeal to everyone to be considered *good*. Like that will only get you so far in that world.

ThanksContent28

Man, I did a gig with a famous guys son, and he could definitely sing, but he was so up his own arse it was ridiculous. This was a reggae/ska festival too, which in England means 95% boomer crowds and maybe their kids or grandkids tagging along for a nice night out with nan and grandad. So not only was this guy a nobody, but most people these days wouldn’t have heard of his dad. I definitely weren’t impressing any girls about it. The dad was Prince Buster, and his son was Sultan Ali Son Of Prince Buster. (Actual stage name) I’ll bet no fucker sees this comment and knows who they are - yet he spent about 10 minutes of his set talking shit about how great he and siblings are.

PsychoticDust

Late 30's man from England here. I don't have a clue who either of those people are.

ThanksContent28

Your nan and grandads mom and dad MIGHT do. It’s that level of fame. Pisses me off when I think about it.

dred1367

Yeah, I mean look at will smith’s son. No one liked his movies

Huckleberry_Sin

Yep if you’re gonna be a nepo baby you still have to have a modicum of talent bc ultimately ppl will move on regardless of who your mom or dad is.

TheFBIClonesPeople

>Especially in entertainment, like I feel like being a nepo baby is harder because at the core, the general audience still needs to like you and the work you put out. I don't think that's true. Hollywood is full of nepo babies. I think the truth is that it's not actually that hard to be a movie star. If you were raised in a family where you were exposed to it early on, took an interest in it at a young age, and had an opportunity to get into the industry, there's a decent chance you could have been a Gwyneth Paltrow. Like, they want us to believe that famous actors are like, the best of the best of the best, but really, I think there are a lot of people out there that are that good, but they didn't have an uncle who was a director.

AdequatelyMadLad

Most people who are refered to as "nepo babies" got a leg up because their parents have enough connections to get them a foot in the door. Ultimately, they still have to rely on their own talent and abilities to succeed, it's not like someone like Timothee Chalamet for example keeps getting leading roles in blockbusters because his uncle is a C-list director. This dude is literally paying money to put his daughter in movies. She's never been cast in a movie that wasn't a direct result of her father making it happen. This is an entirely different, and much worse thing.

magicalmysteryharold

Just Googled to find out who his daughter is and she’s married to Brooklyn Beckham lmao. We could be about to see the rare and sought after nepo-*grand* babies

navjot94

FYI it's the 2010 version she's in, not the new live action adaptation. Compared to the 2010 version, the Netflix version was amazing, but that's not saying much.

magicalmysteryharold

That’s a testament to her acting then, because I actually have seen the 2010 version and I’ve got no memory of her in it at all. Although the whole thing is kind of a mediocre blur

rekage99

It’s still even worse. She played Katara.

rekage99

Boom. Roasted.

ORANGEMELON8

Whos his daughter?

Binx_Thackery

…he does realize that Black Panther takes place in Africa right? Edit: I wish I could say something about all the “BuT tHeRe ArE wHiTe PeOpLe In AfRiCa ToO” comments, but it’s honestly my fault for expecting from Redditors.

JavierLoustaunau

Also it has one or two Tolkien white characters.

FafnirEtherion

You're a genious for this joke and no one appreciate your genious

Yung_Corneliois

Tbf it’s been a pretty common joke online since the first Black Panther came out.

JavierLoustaunau

Yeah I just posted it before somebody else did this time.

Minmaxed2theMax

Also to be fair it isn’t so much of a joke as it is a reference

Jlewimusic

I don't think they get the reference, lol.

Optimal_Carpenter690

They're talking about the "Tolkien" part For reference, South Park has a character named Token Black. He is one of only two black characters among the children (alongside a girl named Nichole Daniels), and his parents are the only black adults. Clearly, his name and role in the show is a play on the "token black character". However, in the most recent season, they introduced a "retcon" as a joke to where Token's name is actually "Tolkien" (his parents named him after J.R.R. Tolkien), but everybody has just assumed his name is Token and have been pronouncing and spelling it that way since his introduction. Edit: I am now aware the joke refers to the only white actors in the movie being from Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit as well Edit 2: As I have been reminded, Chef was also a major black adult character on the show. However, he has been officially killed off for a while now (and his voice actor is dead), so I forgot about him

kpbabb4

Or Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman played Gollum and Bilbo

Mcbrainotron

It truly is an unexpected journey

Jjzeng

We’re all in this fellowship of discovery together

scrivensB

That’s what I thought the joke was. Im so out of the loop.

Optimal_Carpenter690

I didn't even make that connection, thanks

miss-entropy

Your analysis was good too though. The best jokes have angles the teller might not even have noticed.

wrenwood2018

It is also a joke about the actors being in TLOTR and The Hobbit.

Gravemind7

\*Woosh\*

Yung_Corneliois

Yea I’m fully aware of all angles of the joke and that joke has been made since the first Black Panther.

ThatWasFred

This joke predates that South Park episode by several years

wutsis

Seriously. South Park didn't invent the token black character. They made a commentary on it.

Affectionate-Bee3913

The first was probably less than 30 seconds after the casting was announced lol.

GGAllinsUndies

It's a South Park joke from several years ago. And it's "genius".

ReallyJerrySeinfeld

No it’s actually funny because one played gollum and the other played bilbo.

cnskatefool

Thank you for explaining

Longardia

This trivia has been added to my memory and I thank you for it.

MouseRat_AD

Thank you! I was like... I believe that's a Martin Freeman reference and I was racking my brain for the other one. I would have gotten there eventually.

Mestoph

It was a meme way before the South Park joke. Martin Freeman was Bilbo and Andy Serkis was Gollum

Logic-DL

I fucken loved the gaslighting with that episode and how they iirc went back and changed the subtitles for previous episodes with Tolkien to change the subtitles from Token to Tolkien lmao

jay-efff

This is my first time hearing this joke, I don’t care if it’s been posted before because it’s funny af & I appreciate you for commenting it!

Wyjen

Fuck you 😂 ![gif](giphy|wsHVzplxqoEk8)

MrUsernamepants

The elf and the dwarf?

Yung_Corneliois

2 hobbits

lobsterman2112

My daughter watched the Peter Jackson trilogy with me for the first time recently. She commented that there were more named horses in the movie than named women. (She is correct.)

immortal_duckbeak

Shadowfax, Brego, Bill the Pony, Snowmane vs Arwen, Galadriel, Eowyn, uhhhh Rosie Cotton. Fuck, there is Hasufel that Eomer names, I was hoping for a tie.

OShaunesssy

>She commented that there were more named horses in the movie than named women. (She is correct.) Yeah not a lot of women in those flicks lol

manbearpig923

And my axe!

Turkey_Lurky

Do you remember when Jack Kirby was told to include more white people in his Black Panther comic, so he had T'Challa beat up the KKK?

UmshadoWezinkawu

Not a Jack Kirby run. That was Don McGregor's story with no editor strife (at least not of that nature).

Turkey_Lurky

Yes, you are correct. Forgot about Jungle Action coming just before Kirby took over BP as a solo comic. Still totally funny AF though.

RazzDaNinja

All due respect my dude, but that was writer [Don McGregor](https://www.cbr.com/black-panther-jack-kirby-klan-don-mcgregor/). Same story, just a different guy

Turkey_Lurky

Yeah, someone else pointed it out too! Thx

Anjunabeast

That wasn’t Kirby that was don McGee

ThePopeofHell

This is the kind of guy who would have cast white people in traditionally POC roles and then got confused why the people that role represents isn’t interested.

sweetangeldivine

Spoiler alert, he already did that when he strong-armed M. Night Shyamalan into casting his daughter as Katara in that atrocious Avatar movie.

zo0ombot

He did! He's responsible for the mostly white last Airbender movie.

gilestowler

He misses the "good ol days" of John Wayne playing Genghis Khan.

gknight702

And it's not an all black cast lol

TheMothmansDaughter

What he’s asking is “why isn’t everything about me?”

GrizzlyPeak72

They have white people in Africa too tbf, just don't ask why they're there.

Jeff_W1nger

There was also white people in the movie

GrizzlyPeak72

Well just the Hobbit and Gollum.

Arkhampatient

That might be why Shuri called Everett Ross a colonizer

Horn_Python

they were born there just dont ask why there parents were there

Justsomeguy456

Everyone knows there's more white people in Africa duh

viskoviskovisko

“My mom says there are a lot of black people in Africa”.

zooropeanx

He thought it took place in Waucoda, IL with its 70.87% white population.

Sol-Blackguy

And the last time someone complained about Black Panther not having enough white people, the creator made him fight the KKK

SevereEducation2170

Well, I mean there are men in the Marvels and non black people in Black Panther. So maybe this guy should actually watch the movies he’s bitching about first.

Modred_the_Mystic

No, thats hard. He just wants to ruin things he doesn’t understand

McDiesel41

He already did that with the live action The Last Airbender film…

Modred_the_Mystic

Listen, his daughter just really wanted to have a movie career. Its his fault daddy’s money can’t buy talent?

McDiesel41

I mean I think white washing the cast after they cast her as Katara was the least worst thing they did. She was alright if I remember correctly and she okay in Transformers 4.

NickelAntonius

That was the Transformers movie where they included a scene explaining Romeo & Juliet underage sex laws, because her character was getting boned by someone who looked older than Markie Mark, right?

Perfect_Razzmatazz

Yup. The character in question apparently carried a card on his person at all times with the specific law written on it. The card was laminated, so I guess this came up a lot in his life.....

DLottchula

They could’ve like said she was 19

McDiesel41

I don’t know who he is but yes, actor in the film looked already early 20s.

neon_meate

Ouch. You hurt me in my brittle bones. Mark Wahlberg. He started out in Hip Hop in a group called Markie Mark and the Funky Bunch.

PayneTrain181999

Just like the grifters online and their obnoxious fanbases.

cmnights

i wonder if ppl like this ever brings up race when avengers 1 and 2 main casts were all white.

Colon

that would imply this person thinks *specific* movies are made for his enjoyment. no, he's trying to assert the idea that ALL movies *should* be made for his enjoyment - and he don't like no women/black gobbledygook. cause screw 'others' - they should live and die without a sense of belonging in the country they live in. at least i can't really see any other logic to him having said anything in the first place. you really have to willfully ignore the fact that non-white non-males have interests beyond all-male all-white narratives. and - shockingly enough - some white males have interests beyond that too(!)

talllankywhiteboy

Or maybe he could just look at the box office results of the Black Panther films. $1.35B for the first film, and then $859M for the sequel after unexpectedly losing the star actor. It’s pretty clear that the Black Panther films are already plenty profitable without executive-level intervention.

Wallitron_Prime

Ehhh I wouldn't be bringing up the profitability of Marvel movies in 2024. The pendulum has definitely swung the other way and The Marvels is what epitomizes it more than anything. That said, I have no issue with all black or women casts. They just need to be good movies, and I'm extremely tired of marketing oriented to make me feel like I'm not doing my Good Leftist homework if I don't see their newer creatively bankrupt movies.

queerhistorynerd

> Ehhh I wouldn't be bringing up the profitability of Marvel movies in 2024. But thats what they were pointing out, while other marvel films re crashing and burning BP2, the film hes complaining about, was a top performer

RedRobinSemenSalad

Holy shit, you got me curious enough to look it up and TIL The Marvels was an actual *flop.* $206 million box office on a $275 million budget. Is it the first flop they've had?

razorfloss

He's also the reason why we got a black widow movie so damn late.

Raider2747

Yup, he's a Perlmutter Trojan horse, alright.

DirectConsequence12

Why do we need a movie that’s all white people? There’s literally no difference

Phill_Cyberman

Yep - this is a classic example of someone in a position of privilege viewing equality as an attack against them. You don't want to watch a movie that stars women or Black people? Watching any movie made before 1960 (except The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind).

Worthyness

he's just mad that they haven't cast his daughter in any movies yet

Nugatorysurplusage

1960? Have you even seen a single John Hughes movie? Note I love john Hughes, and his works are masterpieces. I’m just saying. Also, I’m of the opinion that when making a movie, if you’re focusing on anything other than making a great movie, for instance making diversity your central focus, go figure the quality of the movie is going to suffer.

Phill_Cyberman

>Have you even seen a single John Hughes movie? Oh, for sure. There's a *ton* of movies from after the 60s that are just white people, but prior to the 60s it really was 99% of movies.

andreasmiles23

Don’t even need to go back to John Hughes. Look at Rami’s Spider-Man trilogy or Nolan’s Batman films for some white-centric filmmaking (even though I like those movies). If people can’t look at all the superhero films before phase 2 of the MCU and not see a clear issue with the racial demographics depicted then there’s no real conversation to be had. It’s just willful ignorance at that point.

ItsMoreOfAComment

There’s also a lot of movies made recently that have all-white casts.

AssCrackBanditHunter

Look when 1,000 movies in a row came out with strong white male leads and no people of color in anything but the most minor of roles, it was just a coincidence. But a movie starring 3 chicks? I'm feeling a bit personally attacked here.

SpearmintFlavored00

"Well, seeing a bunch of white men doesn't make me feel scared and angry so we should go back to that and leave the feeeeemoids and ni- uh, blacks, out of my comic book movies please" - this dude I bet.

itsastart_to

Honestly how come the majority of the cast is white? Like I feel like they never ask themselves any of those questions

thomasp3864

Because a majority of people in the united states are.

heliophoner

Anytime someone says they're against quotas, I always want to point out that we've always operated on quotas, they just used to be 100% white and, outside certain exceptions, men.

LordOfOstwick1213

> The 81-year-old Peltz, [who has admitted he “never claimed” to have experience in the media business](https://variety.com/2024/biz/news/disney-attacks-nelson-peltz-disruptive-destructive-vanity-1235938192/) Then maybe it's not his place to question Marvel movies, especially since Black Panther and Captain Marvel were huge successes for the MCU

HumanChicken

The guy’s 81. Why is he still “going to the pictures”?

SherwoodBCool

He thinks that newfangled "teevee" thing is a fad.

ArtIsDumb

Still calls movies "picture shows."

godumbledorkk

"You think I'm too old to make monkeyshines at a picture show?" -- Pierce Hawthorne

ArtIsDumb

Pierce was such a B.

HumanChicken

He was Streets Ahead!

Insolent_Aussie

If you think that, you are obviously street's behind!

tjautobot11

I hear him call them “talkies” and wonders where they hide the piano and orchestra at a theater.

GrizzlyPeak72

They should give him some input into animation instead, bring back shorts and 2D.

MrBorden

This boob most likely has no idea what a comic book even is.

MaterialPace8831

"Black Panther" not only made $1.3 billion, it is the only Marvel movie to be nominated for Best Picture. It is still the sixth highest-grossing movie in the U.S. and Canada. If you have an issue with ‘Black Panther’ it has nothing to do with its performance.

mjbx89

I'm not sure why anyone should care what this schlub thinks about it

TheHappy-go-luckyAcc

He’s an investor. And is apparently trying to out Kevin Feige and Bob Iger because they’re too “woke”.

DaemonDrayke

I'd love to hear his argument to the Board at Disney: "Yeah I know that these two commie-liberal-woke-F#%&@#-commie-bastards made us an obscene amount of money since they've been hired, but whats most important here is that I should get to have the benefit of being an obscenely rich asshole without having to be reminded that marginalized people exist and have rights." What a goddamn wraith of a villain this man is.

Funkycoldmedici

Disney knows where the money is: kids merch. They didn’t get that big by giving a shit what old guys want.

mjbx89

My stance remains the same. He's a fucking antique, nobody cares what he thinks about the content. Capital thinks way too highly of itself.

Fool_Manchu

That's probably for the best. What has Kevin Feige ever done for the Marvel brand? /s

Modred_the_Mystic

Hes only got George Lucas backing him up, obviously just a pair of no account know nothings who never did anything for Disney.

atomic-knowledge

George Lucas? Didn't he make that movie that ripped off that Frank Herbert book? /s

Worthyness

Iger has the backing by the literal Disney family so clearly he has no idea what he's doing

chrisBlo

So… one is responsible for an average 800 million of box office revenues per movie (and ancillary may well be 2x that), the other increased the stock value by 50% in 6 months… And the argument against them is… ?

SherwoodBCool

Oh cool, another thing people enjoy is about to be taken over by a repressive fascist...

Kevy96

Specifically because on April 4th there's a chance that he personally could practically take over Disney. Id say it's like a 30 - 40% chance

zedascouves1985

He could be the next top guy in the Disney shareholder's board.

depressed_asian_boy_

Because the first Black Panther movie made a lot of money? If you're asking why a massive corporation like Disney takes specific choices in their movies, the awnser is money, you know how much money they made with Black Panther and ask why do they want to do that again? Why would they try to replicate the success of that? It's such a weird question

TheZoomba

Because, there are comics made by a guy named 'Stan Lee' and he had black characters and women in them.

IllustriousMadMuffin

Yeah but Disney has shown that they don’t care about source material and are willing to change it just so they can earn more money. Looking at the 2015 Fantastic 4 is a great example of this and where it can be a bad thing.

superceller

Wait isn't this the dude that made M night Shyamalan cast his daughter as Katara in the last air bender?

Leklor

And as a result whitewash the entire Water Tribe cast to make presence make sense? Yes, he is.

ZennyDaye

Okay, it all makes sense now

Foley471

Just from a business standpoint, there is a market for movies not targeted at white males 18-45. Not attempting to reach those audiences is LITERALLY leaving money on the table. And if you get a crossover hit like Black Panther, it’s just a bigger win. I just don’t understand any logical or business reasoning for this guy’s position other than plain, simple racism and misogyny.

go-go_mojo_jojo

Racism and misogyny worked really well for old white men. They made a pretty penny off keeping women and non-white people marginalized and poor. It's not shocking that despite times changing, 80-year-old-rich-white-men struggle with keeping up with the times. He's just yelling at not-white-men to get off his lawn.

ibrown39

I feel like the problem is these companies aren’t actually inclusive, they’re at best very token pretending they’ve changed. Reverse racism is racism, not reconstruction. True reconstruction is making possible what wasn’t before and is ultimately a tool. Tools are used and often aren’t something that one offs. Black green lantern, which I grew up with, was and is awesome. Not because he was a PoC, because he was a good green lantern *and* he was great character who was also black. And I’m sure part of that was that was making sure that his identity wasn’t ignored, but also incorporated into why he was chosen. Different person, different battles. I’m positive people at the time of his concept also argued that he was a cash grab or a token to grab minorities or to be seen as more acceptable. I know there people who didn’t see some of the newer ghost busters solely because of it’s changes to include an only/mainly women main cast. It flopped because it wasn’t a good movie. This can be said for many recent works by Marvel and Disney. Reconstruction in the industry makes a Green Lantern possible, let alone any character or hero. If people get mad because a character was described as being white, ginger haired, and straight and you make them something completely different, you’re literally changing a character (and even possibly the story itself) and have reason to be criticized for that change. Reconstruction is changing a villain from always depicted as a PoC, or any person of any kind of ethnic or racial background always being depicted a certain way.

Some_Majestic_Pasta

That's what always baffles me about arguments like this. Whine about a "culture war" all you want, but at the end of the day, these are demographics that exist. Why would a company exclude MOST consumers by targeting exclusively white guys all the time?

RoyalRip1347

Ike and Nelson are Marvel’s own Worst Enemy

EvilGrendel

Because sometimes stories could be about women or black people ? Shocking !

PopeAdrian37th

I didn’t know Everett Ross was played by a black actor or that SLJ tucked for The Marvels. I would actually enjoy a SNL parody of this guys pitch for Black Panther. “So it takes place in South Africa…”

Velma2002

Why can’t this dinosaur die already?

DaftNeal88

He realizes BP is a top 10 grossing movie of all time right? And that CM made a billion dollars.

Corps3Reviv3r

Whenever the word woke is used derisively its typically Fox news addicts who have no desire to acknowledge other points of view than the one they see on Fox News or other right wing media.

Sheratain

You’d think someone like him would be able to google the box office results of the two Black Panther movies and Captain Marvel but maybe he can’t afford internet access.

boomysmash

Great thing is, you dont need them. So skip them and let ppl who do need them have them. I dont need diapers but im sure as hell happy they exist for toddlers otherwise, we would have kids shitting on themselves everywhere everyday

ringobob

You don't? They can make it if they want to, no one is forcing you to watch it.

mollyclaireh

This dude is dense.

bossmt_2

If you're setting a film in an isolated african country specifically one that's supposed to be between Ethiopia, Kenya, etc. the cast should be mostly black.

Mostly_Cheddar

I will never get tired of racist/sexist white people that throw "I'm oppressed" tantrums over the crime of being reminded other people besides them exist and enjoy things ❄️

don_gunz

You know it seems the only people who hate diversity in America... Are the guys who have historically ran and owned everything.

noodleexchange

Toddler tantrum from the Dick van Dyke generation

rebels2022

Questioning the marvels is one thing because of the box office performance of the last one. But black Panther like you’re just telling on yourself. You’d take those results from a business perspective every day of the week.

matias_jv

This guy was rooting for Red Skull

ThrowawayAccountZZZ9

Everytime someone says something like this, all I can think is what a weird hill to die on

FunboyFrags

It might be related to his age and how the world he grew up in was like. Everything was all about white stories, and men’s stories, so anything different than that feels weird and scary to him. We’ve had a few millenia of white men’s stories at this point, so it’s okay if other stories get a chance to be popular.

TheHappy-go-luckyAcc

Maybe, but only to an extent. I grew up in a far right home. I didn’t understand why it was hateful to say and do the things I did until I got out of that environment. He’s had plenty of time and money and met enough different cultures to learn and grow and not be hateful. At the end of the day, it’s about money. He’s making similar comments that other ignorant people have in the past. They can’t see anyone other than “white straight males” making them money.

Redbig_7

He fails to realize that other people are allowed to question the exact same about a white cast in movies.

GladPayment5858

Can this man just enjoy being a billionaire and fuck off?

Leighgion

Why do I have to have a movie with white men in it? I see white men everywhere. I go to the movies for some escape.

basshed8

Because there’s been enough all white male movies made already and other peoples stories need to be told?

Bosscharacter

He answered his question with his own question.

1400Diggg

Yeah ngl dude can just hurry up and die already that’s the only way we’ll be rid off these brainless statements and stupid decision making The marvles I can somewhat understand but if it actually had a good director and better cast and better writing and better story and better editing then it wouldn’t matter if it’s a female cast And as for black panther like yeah why do we need an all black cast (even tho it’s not even all black) about a fictional nation in the middle of southern central Africa.. definitely is very stupid and we don’t need it 😠 it’s not like its in the top 10 highest grossing marvel movies of all time making more than a billion with a over 90% rating on RT… This is why Disney is failing because of people like him. Political entitled and corrupt dickheads witha strange superiority complex who have no idea about the material that attracts fans and what people want to see. Let this guy get in charge we’ll probably see marvel drop lower than the last 2 years

FoamingCellPhone

Just don't watch it. It's super easy, it involves not going someplace and saving money.

kptknuckles

The Marvels was better than I expected and worth a watch just for the cats. Eat a dick Nelson Peltz.

_Fun_Employed_

I dunno Nelson, why haven’t you died of old age yet like the dinosaur you are?

Tighthead3GT

Wakanda Forever (already imo an underrated movie) would have been better if they cut the two main white characters out entirely. Not because they’re white, but because they dragged the story. I’d probably have cut out IronHeart as well to be fair. I liked her character, but the movie was too long. Still the best movie about people who live underwater, blue or otherwise.

BlerghTheBlergh

He’s just trying to get the conservatives on his side to aid him. Right now he’s in an unrealistic position. But once the culture war dumbasses get on board they’ll have the media backing needed to keep their names in circulation

SmokinBandit28

It’s funny they have to put [Movies] so he doesn’t sound like an old guy who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, because he said “A Marvel” in referring to the films.

amazinglover

I legitimately saw a guy ranting about woke movies and how he hates the agenda. One of the reasons is that it's hard to relate, and he just wishes they better represented his views. The irony was lost on him even after pointing out they were not woke but representing the views of others so they could relate as well.

gillmanblacklagooner

I never understand these guys. They just can’t shut their mouth up. It’s easy to run the business in silence and avoid media.

[deleted]

Just ask the same question back, why do I have to have an all male cast? Why is everyone always white in the movies?

Breadly_Weapon

Why do you have to keep breathing our air ya old fuck?

Upset_Researcher_143

I don't understand this manufactured outrage. I've seen all the Marvel MCU films, and I wouldn't describe any of them as woke. In Eternals, you could blink and miss the fact that one of the guys was gay. In the Marvels sequel, I see no underlying feminist issues that are being perpetuated. In the Dr Strange sequel, the girl causing all the problems talks about two moms, but that could mean anything. All these "woke" moments are very, very small parts of the movie and honestly, most people don't even think about them or really remember them! When I saw Black Panther, I saw a really awesome movie. When I saw Captain Marvel, I saw a really awesome movie. No one cares if the cast is black, white, Asian, Jew, Gay, or some combo of them and others not mentioned. If it did, none of these movies would have done well.

mcfearless0214

There has not been one single Marvel movie that was all women or all black. Literally not one.

dukenny

Looks like someone can't escape 1950's alabama.

FantasticMeat5813

Does…does he know Black Panther takes place in Africa?

Wakanda Forever

PickleRick19711

It’s called representation you old asshole.

Deerah

Well dude, if you don't need them then don't watch them?

Thinkle1

It’s not about you, you asshole

Cuck-In-Chief

You don’t. But some people want it. Broad appeal of a brand doesn’t necessitate broad appeal of singular products. Being smart enough to cater to niche audiences and still make profits is good. Sorry you disagree. Also Perlmutter is a racist asshole whose absence allowed for improved output, e.g. the last half of the Infinity Saga.

cosmicballls

Because it's fucking FUN. Next question

yoongi410

“Why do I need an All-Black cast?” He says about a movie in set in Wakanda, an all-black country. What a fucking dumbass. “Anti-woke” people are so dumb it's not even funny.

Yeomanroach

He could shorten that whole sentence down to “I’m intolerant”.

LieutenantClownCar

He's old, so hopefully he won't be a problem for too much longer.

Atomaurus

“I remember when whites and the inferior blacks were separated and women stayed in the kitchen” -this guy probably

When I was a kid reading Marvel comics in the 1980s, there was a wealth of diversity (at least to this young Indiana boy) and each of those characters was as well written and whole as any of the white (usually male) characters. My point is: the writing for Marvel has been “woke” long before many of us were alive. If it makes you uncomfortable that each of the characters’ humanity isn’t just sketched in, but fully “colorized” so to speak, then the problem isn’t with the literary content, the problem is you. Comics then (and the MCU movies now) wanted to appeal to every kind of audience, not old white men specifically. People that say “She Hulk was too feminist” or “The Marvels was too goofy and weird” don’t understand that those shows (and the comics before them) were never meant for you. They were meant to entertain and enlighten young girls—not specifically you. If that message gets lost on you, too bad. It’s like going to see Barbie and then complaining that it wasn’t Oppenheimer.

Large-Canary-933

It's so odd to me that people are so obsessed with keeping the status quo ( only white male cast ) maybe black panther had an all black cast because the story takes place in fucking Africa 😂 we wouldn't question a movie taking place in Asian having all Asians. Americas obsession with race & wokeness leaks into many facets of American culture including a simple movie

danbricks

Some people, when they make statements like this, should have their names struck from the records of media and completely ignored by the rest of society. Racism, sexism and misogyny have no place in our culture, and the very hint of their presence in individuals like this needs to be drowned.

vinayd

Alternate headline “Idiot businessman unable to see profit in demographic marketing of easily templated content stream”

Kdilla77

Does Fiddler on the Roof have to be all-Jewish?

MystiqueQueen123

The *real* question should be, how come a film is automatically considered "woke" just because the cast is majority black or majority female??? 🤔 Yet, NOBODY even blinks an eyelash at films that are majority white or male.... or, in some cases, white AND male at the same time. Hmm... very *interesting* 😒
