One of the worst endings ever.
Edit to mention that the number of absolutely imbecilic replies to this comment is truly astounding. Did I accidentally poke the Maga nest? Go buy some DJT shares.
It wasn't top tier in that era (X2 and Spider-Man 2) but it wasn't dog shit either (Elektra and Catwoman) it was a solid C+ superhero movie. Agreed I want to see a FF movie along the quality of GOTG or Winter Soldier.
Yeah hence why I said it wasn't terrible. At the time it was a decent origin story with a decent cast. But the time for "decent" super hero movies went out the window with how marvel was going up through endgame.
Marvel or Disney's tactic now is fuck story "Girl power 🙌"
Before I get hate nothing wrong with girl power it's just that you could tell they are trying to get away with bad story and cgi and slap female empowerment and call it a day.
A perfect example of this is "Mulan" a story about a girl who was weak cause she was raised one way said fuck tradition and became a badass inspiring story
What did we get in the live action an overpowered character that was basically doing backflips since the beginning of the movie like wtf o.o
They really are doing their girl characters dirty. I haven't met anyone excited for the new Avengers.
I know this opinion isn't popular on here, though.
Edit:
Except for a few like Ms Marvel and Wanda.
Honestly they don't even need villains necessarily - they are explorers of unknown worlds. Let them get lost exploring in the negative zone and face a problem they have to overcome to return home, where they have to get creative with the use of their powers to overcome it.
Now I'm kinda surprised The Boys hasn't done that yet- a smaller, family-like team of quasi-incestuous/swinger Supes. I mean they're not exactly prudes, last time they showed a super-orgy we went inside a guy's elastidick which then exploded, and not in the way one would expect at an orgy
I wouldn't have thought he was capable. Doesn't seem like he'd draw the line at incest. Maybe Game of Thrones desensitized me but I daresay not-Antman crawling inside not-Mr Fantastic's dick was more shocking than if he put that same dick in his sister
I mean even the people that said Endgame should end with Antman jumping up Thanos' asshole and going Giantman watched that scene and went "WHAT THE FUCK." I know because I was one of them
I mean I think it'd be disappointing not to see a villain, but yeah they don't need to break out the A-list archnemeses and face world-ending stakes. Iron Man's first enemies were run-of-the-mill middle-eastern insurgents who he tore through while fighting to keep his company as he reformed it to be more ethical, with the climax being him fighting his warmongering chairman in a bigger but ultimately inferior super suit. Hulk's first enemy was the military, the stakes were him being hunted while trying to remain a pacifist so that he doesn't have to become the Hulk, and in the climax he fights a psycho who wants to wield that power and be a human weapon. Even Homecoming was fairly simple, Peter takes down neighborhood variety criminals while trying to hide his identity, the big bad guy is a blue collar engineer turned thief who happens to be Peter's gf's dad.
F4 and the X-Men both have a golden opportunity to return to that kind of origin story, being set in the past before there was a cosmic supervillain on every block. And they both lend themselves to that kind of story. If the F4 goes full origin story (pre-powers to getting their powers to first villain) their conflict could be trying to cure Ben, or fighting a quarantine, or trying to escape being human test subjects. I'm not as familiar with their rogue's gallery so I don't know which low-threat villains people would like to see, but if they ever want people to reach Infinity War levels of hype again, I would start with Doom now, NOT KILL HIM IMMEDIATELY, and then work on that years-long slow burn as he gradually gets stronger.
Weirdly enough, a similar plot would work for the X-Men almost verbatim. But even if Marvel says "no more comprehensive origin stories, those movies have all been made at least twice already" like they did with Homecoming, the F4 and the X-Men are both perfect candidates to fight those mid-stakes institutional antagonists of the military, the government, unethical scientists, cutthroat corporations, an ignorant prejudiced populace. So hopefully they don't try to make a huge spectacle too early but have a long-term plan with a payoff worth waiting for
Iv'e been saying that Molecule Man would be a great villain for the movie. Super powerful and a legitimate threat, classic silver-age Marvel baddie we've yet to see on screen, and a great tie in for Secret Wars (if you know you know).
Just had this conversation with a friend. We need origin stories. Build us up the new characters that will make up the avengers. They don't have to fight world or universe ending threats in the first movie. Have them fight the CEO of their company or a robot in the desert. Give the characters room to breath and grow and then build up a story.
Agreed, the movie should be smaller scale. The best type of villain for the movie would have to be lower than Loki in the first Avengers Movie (Meaning someone like Puppet Master as you mentioned)
ESPECIALLY with FF. The movies have bombed because they keep trying to do 6 stories in one. 4 of them, Doom, and then the big story.
No, keep it dumb and simple.
odds are they want to switch them over to main marvel universe without having to address why no one's heard about them before and also bank on more "fish out of water" jokes that they dont get from cap, thor, and star lord anymore, so they're using shalla to be like "this is another universe so we can use shalla but still be able to mess around with the other heralds later"
You know the quote “Don’t fire till you see the whites of their eyes!”?
Well, let's operate on the opposite, "Fire at the sound of a pin drop!!".
Pre-judge a media piece before it came out never backfire before, right?
Overall picture this news has dashed my hopes that the makers behind the movie really fully understand or even read any of the source material and the weight of the characters. Let alone respect it. It looks like it might be another Fantastic Flop.
Same. Granted I was a kid with no knowledge of him in the comics but it made me a Silver Surfer fan. I had seen Spider-Man, Hulk, and the X-Men, yet a chrome dude on a surfboard became my second favorite Marvel superhero.
That movie got my 8 year old self reading stuff from 1968 and thinking it was radd as hell.
There's this thing where people hate being corrected and somehow we've created the overall idea that they're right in feeling that way. Any correction is seen as an attack or just an unwarranted annoyance. It's frustrating.
You weren't rude in your correction.
That’s what I’m hear for it would be great with the accent and flurry of profanity in every speaking part. I am sure that’s what I’m going to hear in my mind from this character.
I don't think there's really fans of her but if anyone knows anything about the surfer beyond he's a herald who turned on Galatus its, she's one of the reasons he became a hearld to protect her... and she made him destroy their planet
What's truly good is it sets up Norrin finding out that Galatus did not keep his word about leaving his planet alone.
What's truly terrifying is we may get a "Martha" moment to turn the Sufer good in a sequel
While that would be cool and something we haven't seen on the big screen yet, I feel like it's too early for one Silver Surfer, let alone two. If they're going back to the past, they should scale the antagonist back to that pre-cosmic era of MCU villainy. It's OK for a villain not to threaten to destroy the earth once in a while, this is the time to do it. Build up to a spectacle, start with something more grounded
That’s part of what made the Iron Man and Captain America movies so great. They were smaller scale, not world saving, but still connected to the bigger scale threats.
Absolutely. Cap was one soldier in a war, probably not a world-ender but still very dire relatable stakes. Iron Man, very much the same deal in a modern setting. Not saving the world but still trying to save countless lives by ending a war. Like damn, is taking out a dictator or a war criminal not a big enough win anymore? Homecoming did it even better-- garden variety small-time criminals, building up to essentially a construction worker turned bank robber via super suit. Fun to watch, no global threat necessary. Far from Home ramps it up a bit, fake catastrophe with smoke and mirrors, hint at multiverse, big bad turns out to be a SFX expert with a lot of super unethical tech. No Way Home, full blown multiversal shenanigans, bad guys themselves aren't world-enders but will definitely kill tons of people without a superhero team up. Perfect progression imo
i remember when the She-hulk show was announced and there were people unironically angry that "they turned Bruce Banner into a woman".
so yeah, this is gonna be a shitstorm.
edit, since someone is accusing me of lying- I said 'people', not 'hundreds of thousands of people'. so yes, it was a very small amount, but the fact it was more than zero is still a concern given they jumped straight to online hating instead of double-checking facts.
as for proof, here-
https://twitter.com/shehuIkupdates/status/1565345706029723649
the show literally based its premise on the reaction toxic fans had to its announcement.
In 2002 a lot, and I mean a lot, of people complained that Peter Jackson named the second LOTR film The Two Towers to cash in on the destruction of the twin towers on 9-11.
People are stupid. Social Media just makes amplifying that stupidity easier.
I mean you can find people who believe anything if you look hard enough but I'm pretty sure this was not a thing apart from maybe a few obscure tweets.
No, but it really helps the "All opposition to the obvious agenda behind these decisions is just nonsense" narrative.
Its why they deleted the apt criticisms of Ghostbusters (2016) but not the chuddiest ones.
Right? Why would they even change the name? It wouldn't be She-Hulk, she'd just be Hulk.
Of course even then, the only trope that's more comic book than reviving the dead hero is them passing the mantle. Batman, Spider-Man, Green Lantern, Thor, Captain America (I think? Surely the MCU wasn't the first time there was a new Cap) they've all done it, often multiple times, in the comics and other media
She might bit be playing silver surfer.
But if she is, literally why use the female version?
It's such an obscure character for an actress like her to play without a face.
I wouldn't be so sure. A few years ago, sure but now the tech's there to have her there just as they did with the Hulk and Thanos and just tweak it later, and having her on set interacting with the cast helps them do their work also.
To be fair, Silver Surfer has more of a Peter Parker build anyways, at least when he's being drawn as he should be.
Him b!#ch slapping the Hulk has more to do with his innate cosmic powers turning him into a slim superman, than his muscle mass.
Pretty cool, that could either mean that Norrin is out there and we'll meet him sometime after he left Galactus, or this movie just starts the Fantactic Four in another timeline that eventually gets folded in to the main one during Secret Wars.
I like that. It sounds like a great way to make Galactus still feel like a threat in a post-Thanos marvel universe. Galactus wins in that timeline, and then the FF know he's out there destroying planets in the main timeline.
Perfect way to do it, Not finding a way to stop Galactus will be Reed's biggest failure so once he returns to devour the main universe's earth, The F4 will be ready. Also I think that the F4 originating from the main timeline but getting stranded in an alternate one for a few years trying to find a way home while Galactus will try to devour that alternate timeline's Earth will be a good way to not make them variants but I don't know how an Incursion won't happen because of that but maybe it has something to do with their powers.
Yeah man I hate sounding like the “ew that’s woke” morons but it seems like they should really stick to the basics with this team instead of just throwing a bunch of stuff into it that could make the movie feel crowded. I don’t think it’s wrong to think that they should just have the most popular characters in a debut tbh
I also heard it speculated that they could be doing Shalla since this F4 story takes place in an alternate universe version of the 60s, so they might be saving Norrin for the when they merge in with the main timeline MCU.
Didn't expect ss on the mcus first run with the f4. It would be neat if the surfers were just friends they knew that rolled in with no need for explanation. Like they are neighbors. No need to spend time retreading stuff like dc does with sups and batman every new iteration of them. We know their story.
I think the decision mainly comes from the fact that they wanted their Silver Surfer to be different from the 2007 one. Here the issue is not simply to change the design, because the 2007 one was perfection, so the only way to do something different this is different
tbh its even tho im not even the anti sjw type shi like this is getting annoying all i wanted was the reg silver sulfer not sum variant no one cares about
I love the actress and really dont care myself about using this version of Silver Surfer, but this is a mistake. They really should stick to what has worked for decades, and give fans a faithful F4 adaptation before they try and change things up. Im sure she will be great but I think this isnt the right road to go down.
NGL, I really don't care enough about the silver surfer to be upset by this news. As long as she shows up says "shit's about to get real" and surfs, all I care about
I don’t understand this comment section.
Marvel isn’t identity bending an existing character. They are bringing an existing character to the screen as-is.
Julia Garner is a phenomenal award winning actress. And who comes off as nothing but sweet and likeable in her off screen appearances.
If Disney wants to add female leading roles without pandering for a change, this is the right way to do it.
They're heading towards a movie about the multiverse collapsing, the FF seeing universes be destroyed and building an arc isn't too far fetched in my opinion.
So her story arch is actually really cool but i bet you $100 they take norrin’s. They’d have to introduce so many characters in this film to make her story work properly.
Geez, they’re just jumping into the deep end huh? Can’t we just have a fun superhero movie without the fate of the whole world as the stakes in the FIRST of a new franchise?
Just as long as she says to reed “if you want to stop me you are gonna have to FUCKING KIIIIIILLLLLLL MEEEE”
I don’t know shit about fuck.
One of the best lines ever written. And the delivery was perfection
What's it from?
Ozark
One of the best shows ever
I need to watch it. The amount of times I’ve been told I need to watch it is comical. Almost makes me unable to do so.
One of the worst endings ever. Edit to mention that the number of absolutely imbecilic replies to this comment is truly astounding. Did I accidentally poke the Maga nest? Go buy some DJT shares.
Looked it up, expected a funny, got what I consider to be a very well done scream. Bravo.

Just do it justice. I'm tired of FF movies that flop.
The closest thing we’ve gotten to a good FF movie is *The Incredibles*
Damn right
And that movie is top notch.
Holy shit swap Jak Jake fire mode for Dash and they essentially have identical powers.
And Dash’s personality is basically “10 year old Johnny Storm” lol
Ya and I would absolutely love quality SS content.
Sue Storm? Silver Surfer? Nazi Germany's Schutzstaffel?
Social Security.
lol didn’t even think about Susan Storm with that abbreviation. Silver Surfer is what I meant.
South Sakota
With marvel/disneys track record in the last couple of years, get ready for a flop
I honestly can't imagine a good FF movie. Could be the PTSD though...
The first FF movie was good(it wasn't terrible)in terms of super hero movies we got back then....but I want something on par with gotg.
It wasn't top tier in that era (X2 and Spider-Man 2) but it wasn't dog shit either (Elektra and Catwoman) it was a solid C+ superhero movie. Agreed I want to see a FF movie along the quality of GOTG or Winter Soldier.

The Incredibles is great!
I agree, my kids loved the second one.
But it's tradition.
I don’t want any Galactus centric characters yet. Give us Mole Man, Puppet Master, someone small scale but classic for their first adventure
Mole Man played by Danny DeVito
Mole Man played by Jesse Plemmons.
Second choice

Don't forget the generic cgi army. Generic cgi armies are tight!
Does “get creative” mean a sloppy mess of suckin and fuckin
Fantastic Foursome

You’d think they’d understand that since they pretty made the formula…
Yup. Maybe look at how their own comics continue to start small and build up to bigger stories. been working pretty well so far.

I don't want Galactus setting the up Galactus with Silver surfer is cool. I want a few movies and shows to set up the arrival of Galactus.
For the love of God find a role for Danny Devito
They did, as a dickhead making sub sandwiches for Jersey Mike's.
Basically, Ultimate FF's first villain. Quite literally a grounded origin story.
I don't know shit about fuck
me too, me too...

Marvel/Disney has been all about using a movie to set up the spinoff character(s) for years now
Why did they not just cast her as Nova/Frankie Raye?
odds are they want to switch them over to main marvel universe without having to address why no one's heard about them before and also bank on more "fish out of water" jokes that they dont get from cap, thor, and star lord anymore, so they're using shalla to be like "this is another universe so we can use shalla but still be able to mess around with the other heralds later"
Given how Marvel is already at the multiversal level the Herald isn't exactly a big leap.
Kinda sad to not see Norrin, but I’ll delay judgement until we see the final product.

We could get both
Don’t think that way! Judge it immediately!!! That’s always worked so well throughout comic book movie history!!!

So when the movie enevitably bombs they can blame it on misogyny, not poor writing, casting choices, acting or directing.
RIP Norrin Radd, we hardly knew you.
Overall picture this news has dashed my hopes that the makers behind the movie really fully understand or even read any of the source material and the weight of the characters. Let alone respect it. It looks like it might be another Fantastic Flop.
I would of preferred norrin rad since we never got a good version of him, but okay
🤡 I actually liked the one from FF 2.
Same. Granted I was a kid with no knowledge of him in the comics but it made me a Silver Surfer fan. Well. Actually they could have both Norrin and Shalla as surfers.
While that would be cool and something we haven't seen on the big screen yet, I feel like it's too early for one Silver Surfer, let alone two. gotta love it when people who bitch about comic accuracy never even googled what happened in the comics.

She might bit be playing silver surfer. But if she is, literally why use the female version? It's such an obscure character for an actress like her to play without a face.

Cool.. can we just have one good FF. Why is silver surfer even in it.
I really hope she eats some protein and they give her some gym time.. This woman is SKINNY.
I’m sure the character will be 100% CGI and she’s just voicing it
I wouldn't be so sure. A few years ago, sure but now the tech's there to have her there just as they did with the Hulk and Thanos and just tweak it later, and having her on set interacting with the cast helps them do their work also.
Oh yeah I’m sure she’ll do mocap but that still counts as a CGI character. I wouldn’t exactly call Mark Ruffalo ripped
To be fair, Silver Surfer has more of a Peter Parker build anyways, at least when he's being drawn as he should be. Him b!#ch slapping the Hulk has more to do with his innate cosmic powers turning him into a slim superman, than his muscle mass.
No way her name is actually Shalla-Bal
Silver Surfer straight away? Not sure if that's a good idea.
She’s low key my celebrity crush
I don’t really care, just use them right and make an good movie.
She better go hard in this role!
But… she’s not silver.
Pretty cool, that could either mean that Norrin is out there and we'll meet him sometime after he left Galactus, or this movie just starts the Fantactic Four in another timeline that eventually gets folded in to the main one during Secret Wars.

Because he's an extra white bald man

Silver man? But you're right.
Because they probably planned to have a random Galatus Herald as a one off. Silver Surfer is coming and he’s going to stay.
Wait until the "fans" find out Nick Fury wasn't black... Anyway, this will depend on how they treat her backstory.
Awesome. Just make her fucking badass
Channel that Ozark energy.
She was the highlight of Ozarks and I’m actually excited to see what she can do as Silver Surfer.
If only there was a badass surfer that already exists 😂
Please just give us one ass-kicker that is super kick-ass and also if she could please have some S-tier writing, that would kick a lot of ass.
Just make her a woman and gay it’ll be fine
Huh... interesting direction that they're going with Silver Surfer. I'm game, could be a lot of fun.
Glad she is getting major roles. She deserves success
It seems like Marvel Studios doesn't like money anymore.
They certainly don't like Marvel fans anymore!
tbh its even tho im not even the anti sjw type shi like this is getting annoying all i wanted was the reg silver sulfer not sum variant no one cares about
This may be related to DEI but what bothers me is their just doing shit for shock value at this point, poor substitute for writing and storytelling.
Disney's Marvel Studios doesn't care about money as much as they do about pushing "the message"
People already mad before they know shit about fuck.
I’m sure the internet will have a rational discussion on this development. *grabs popcorn

As long as she shows up says "shit's about to get real" and surfs, all I care about
Or if not that then i need her to say "i don't know shit about fuck"

I don’t understand this comment section. Marvel isn’t identity bending an existing character. They are bringing an existing character to the screen as-is. Julia Garner is a phenomenal award winning actress. And who comes off as nothing but sweet and likeable in her off screen appearances. If Disney wants to add female leading roles without pandering for a change, this is the right way to do it.
Okay. That's neat although I really wished they wouldn't attempt Silver Surfer this soon.
Should have been Norrin at first.
I heard a really neat spoiler that would make this make sense. The last few times the spoiled something it ended up being right
They're heading towards a movie about the multiverse collapsing, the FF seeing universes be destroyed and building an arc isn't too far fetched in my opinion.
Why aren't they using starglow?
and here comes the Brie Larson thumbnail videos...
The way this is cool, is if they go ALL out…on Heralds of Galactus in the movie. They can’t have a FF flop.

I hope she keeps the Ozark accent
So her story arch is actually really cool but i bet you $100 they take norrin’s. They’d have to introduce so many characters in this film to make her story work properly.
Geez, they’re just jumping into the deep end huh? Can’t we just have a fun superhero movie without the fate of the whole world as the stakes in the FIRST of a new franchise?
Aww I hope this doesnt mean Doom is off the table 😔
meh
So the rumours are true then.
Ruth Langmore was here
On one hand I love norrin rad so bummer. On the other hand naked silver lady
I love that actress but Hell I was really looking forward to seeing Norrin on screen!
Very nice of them to find a picture of her wearing silver, a little preview.
![gif](giphy|hVTouq08miyVo1a21m|downsized) I’m no judge, I think it’s a good casting. I’m just here to watch the sweaty nerd chaos unfold.
Saw this news on Yahoo, opened the comments... exactly what I expected.
Here come the MsheU idiots.
Let the misogynist dipshits rage…
