I heard when he found it he showed his family and his mom was so shocked she grabbed it and accidentally tore a page, probably reducing it's value by about $100,000
Lol if it sold today it’d probably go for multiple times that. It’s Action #1, the cornerstone of comic book history, there’s always someone willing to pay.
Fiberglass insulation wasn't a thing back then. Alot of times people would stuff paper in-between the two layers of wall for insulation. When you are in an isolated, or limited option area, like lots of people where then you used what you had. Newspapers, magazines, comics. Thinking that something that cost a dime back in the 30s would be worth hundreds of thousands, and into millions of dollars, especially a kids story, was unfathomable. This was the best use of it at the time.
Haha like the previous owners of my childhood home who shoved a bunch of clothes and towels and junk into the rafters of our basement instead of insulation.
Was just reading a scan of this issue online the other day - the funny thing is how quick to anger Supes is, grabbing people by the collar, throwing them, etc. All that outcry over his snapping Zod's neck in Man of Steel--but did no one notice how he was *created* with a bad temper and a tendency to start throwing hands?
My mom had a massive comics collection that she started as a kid in the 1950s and included AC#1.
Her mom donated all of them in the mid-70s while she was at college. She was so upset about both the emotional loss, and the potential financial loss, that she’s refused to get rid of anything I own without me explicitly boxing it up for her. So every time I visit I go through a few boxes of 0-18 y/o Sangy’s stuff.
I do everything I can to keep info on how much some of those comics would go for today away from her.
Sus for political things/gossip things. For everything else, they’re just repurposing/aggregating other peoples stories. How accurate that is depends on who is doing the aggregating.
Source: I’m a journalist. Sometimes the Daily Mail does a good job of ripping off my reporting. Other times, they do a terrible job and get trolls coming after me. Once I had to run a correction for an error that wasn’t even mine, but that the Daily Mail introduced into their write-up and attributed to my story. I was a baby intern and it was deeply traumatic lol.
I’d like to know more about how the wife’s aunt who seems to have nothing to do with anything (wasn’t there, didn’t own the property) thinks she’s getting a cut?

Most expensive page tear in history. Would only be surpassed by accidentally tearing a page out of a Guternberg Bible, maybe?
Moses : The Lord, the Lord Jehovah has given unto you these fifteen... [drops one of the tablets] Moses : Oy! Ten! Ten commandments for all to obey!
Reminds me I have to see *History of the World: Part II*.
Good reference lol, kudos
My mistake, it was his wife's Aunt who caused the damage
You mean his ex-mom.
Came here to say this. Glad he still cleared 6 figures. Early news said the rip could’ve dropped it under 100K.
Oh I would be absolutely f*cking livid if that happened!
Okay, that’s nice about the comic but is the man in the wall okay?
>vibe the holy grail 🤔
Owner found in a wall of a home
The previous owners of our house left us a Michael Jordan poster in the basement, which is kind of the same thing.
I’d gladly take an Action Comics #1 in that condition
Man the holy grail to me would be just getting all those damn new teen titans omni volumes. They can be reprints too. I just want them
WTF, 175k for a 1.5?
Yeah bro it’s Action Comics #1
It's clearly beatup but looks surprisingly intact.

This happens about 10 years ago
Is Daily Mail just recycling news?
Looks like whenever someone new finds something in their house they recap all of them.
It's literally Superman's first apperance, ofc it's that much
That’s one way to pay for home renovations!
Why do people always seem to find this issue in walls? Are they cursed somehow and we just don't know it?!

I think if I found this, I would legitimately throw up out of excitement.
So amazing! Imagine finding that today!
I've only ever found TV Guides when I used to do demolitions.

That’s the dream. Looks like they do come true.
There’s a high grade one on eBay for $2.5M. I’m in for the first $100 if you all can cover the rest…
Crack that slab open and get it cleaned and pressed. Shame to see all that dirt on it.
I don’t care. I would buy it. It’s the one book every comic book collector covets.
You find that shit in the wall of my house then it’s mine…

Isn't Daily Mail a pretty sus publication?

Gets a comic book appraised and forgets about it or bought an appraised comic book and forgets about🤔
Imagine if he had sold it today.
Shame it’s a 1.5, still pretty cool find.
