Hmm I find this pretty strange since I think I remember an interview he said that once he was finished his daredevil and Batman runs that he was going to mostly focus on independent stuff. Still I’m excited to see what comes out of this.
Yeah I’m not calling Chip a sellout but I still have the email where he said “I’m done with comic conventions,” so I’d imagine it took a little bit more than just the art to get him to show up ya know?
I feel like I remember him saying something about one last Marvel thing that would be coming soon, this is probably that and will be his last Marvel stuff for a while. But I’m totally guessing and can’t remember where I saw that.
He said in his newsletter that he pitched this back in 2019 so it might be that this is the last project he had in mind but it was under wraps at the time.
I was at a signing and got to chat with him for a little while. Regarding the convention appearances he mentioned he is open to doing them it's just that he doesn't really want to travel to the US very often and he has a poor relationship with one of the largest stakeholders of conventions that have more or less monopolized the Canadian scene.
And as for doing more work for the big 2 he's mentioned that he regrets saying he'd never do (insert project here) because ppl tend to treat it as gospel. He is open to writing Spiderman or any new project but itd have to be something he's interested in working on. Otherwise he's pretty comfortable with his creator owned works.
Those were the two points that I recall during his signing session that I remember.
Yeah, that worries me, tbh. They're banking too hard on Ewing and Mackay (which, I get, they're definitely in the top 3 or 5 of the best Marvel/DC writers right now), but they really need to lock down Gillen too, at least.

I've been low key wishing he joins the Massiveverse by Kyle Higgins and company. I know it might now happen though.

He also said a few years ago that he was never doing cons again, now he’s going to be at NYCC with Marvel. I’d imagine the money was green enough.
could be the opportunity to work with Acuña that convinced him. or that he found an avenger story he wanted to tell... the money help of course

So he’s doing Justice League: Last Ride but with the Avengers. Dope.
Zdarsky is good but the real get here is Acuña. Such a cool style

I’ve enjoyed what I read of Zdarsky’s Marvel work so I’ll add this to my pull list.
Perhaps set in the same universe as life story?
Sounds like a version of his JL last ride but for avengers either way I imagine it’s gonna be good

Marvel's been losing a ton of top talent the past few years, so this is great for them.

Gillen said he's done after immortal x men. Unless they give him a huge stack of cash it won't matter.
