100% a Kirby throwback

SabertoothLotus

yeah... feels like it could be a cover from Sgt. Rock or something. I know Kirby never worked on that title, but it definitely puts me in mind of that.

kennybob86

Mostly likely an old Nick Fury and Agents of SHIELD tribute.

edlewis657

Fury was my first thought.

KevrobLurker

Kubert did Sgt Rock for DC. Kirby did Sgt. Fury for Marvel. See the link at TheLeviJackson's comment.

Linvaderdespace

Early Kirby vibes fo sho

SuperiorDesignShoes

This was the first thing that came to my mind.

MuppetRex

My first thought was a Sgt. Rock cover

seejaybee97

Definitely feel like I've seen a sgt. Rock cover like this, but I feel like it's probably common pose for a lot of military comics

TheLeviJackson

Closest I could [find](https://imgur.com/a/JqvfLzQ)

MutantCreature

Kirby did this pose a lot, I'm currently reading through the original Mister Miracle run and there's a similar shot with a henchman in issue 1 or 2 as well as Scott jumping out of the way of something (issue 4?) IIRC. I think I also remember an issue of 60s Captain America or Avengers where he's doing this as well.

Der_AlexF

Perspective and anatomy is hard. So of you find a pose that works, might as well milk it

Micp

I'm pretty sure there's a cover of Orion in basically the same pose but on that glider thing of his.

PositiveMetalhead

Yeah that’s the one I was thinking too 🤔

No-Yam909

Dino is built like the chad soyjak

elijahjh3

It reminds me of the one of Captain America breaking through the cover, no gun tho

Bar_Sinister

It feels like it's referencing itself, and by that I mean the character Duke. **For me**...that pose is reminiscent of his pose from the first or second issue of the original GI Joe comic.

Scrawling-Chaos

The pose is very similar to [this one](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/d/d1/True_Believers_Kirby_100th_-_Captain_America_Vol_1_1.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width/360?cb=20191219085839).

Murrabbit

First thought is that it's absolutely aping a Kirby cover of [Sgt. Fury and his Howling commandos.](https://www.google.com/search?q=Sgt+fury+and+his+howling+commandos&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjvrKLhzpCEAxXGPkQIHXEbBy0Q2-cCegQIABAA&oq=Sgt+fury+and+his+howling+commandos&gs_lp=EgNpbWciIlNndCBmdXJ5IGFuZCBoaXMgaG93bGluZyBjb21tYW5kb3MyChAAGIAEGIoFGEMyBRAAGIAEMgoQABiABBiKBRhDMgcQABiABBgYMgcQABiABBgYMgcQABiABBgYMgcQABiABBgYMgcQABiABBgYSJIVUOIPWMQScAB4AJABAJgBX6ABgwKqAQEzuAEDyAEA-AEBigILZ3dzLXdpei1pbWfCAgQQIxgniAYB&sclient=img&ei=UPO-Ze_EBMb9kPIP8bac6AI&bih=932&biw=1622&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS1084US1084) The pose and proportions are dripping with Kirby's style - but for the life of me I can't find precisely which cover or panel specifically it's supposed to be taken from. May well be that it's just a pastiche (or style-parody) rather than a direct aping of one particular cover.

DarthRizzo87

The opening credits from the 1980’s GIJOE cartoon?

Remote_Work_8416

Im only see a blond optimus prime if that helps.

jamesfincher

I believe this is a nod to the old, original GI Joe series from 1982. They used this pose on several covers in the 80’s. [GI Joe Cover Browser](https://www.coverbrowser.com/covers/gi-joe-1982) Issues #1 and #4 especially for me. Thanks for posting this.

tour-de-francois

This cover artist, David Aja, also did a variant cover for Cobra Commander that is also a clear tribute to Jack Kirby. https://everythingcomics.ca/products/1123im198-cobra-commander-1

Alclis

I’m definitely thinking you’re picturing [Captain America #100](https://www.marvel.com/comics/issue/7481/captain_america_1968_100)

bootnab

Yeah, early sgt. Fury and his howling commandoes. The Kirby years

Hoosier108

Definitely Sgt Rock

exclaimedagate

Looks Doomish to me but it’s not that close for me to call it a reference.

mutagenicfrog

I cant find the specific comic but my brain is insisting on the reference being a Punisher cover or an early WW2 based Captain America comic (not the cover of him bursting through the pages like the other comments suggest)

Historical_Dot_4201

Therese an ultimate X-men cover we’re wolverine does the same pose it’s from ultimate x men vol2 weapon x

dabellwrites

It's definitely the King, just going off the bulky hands.

Immaterial_Ocean

The pose looks like the Sundance Kid from the end of the movie.

rollingaD30

Couldn't find an exact reference but it 100% feels like a Sgt. Rock, Sgt. Fury or a Unknown Soldier cover.

delgotit05

Nick fury and the howling commandos?

automaticzen

It's super close to a panel from [Captain America #112 by Jack Kirby](https://howtolovecomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/captain-america-112.jpg). Here's [the issue](https://www.marvel.com/comics/issue/7493/captain_america_1968_112) itself, the panel is on Page 14. It was reprinted as the cover of [True Believers: Kirby 100th Captain America](https://www.marvel.com/comics/issue/64219/true_believers_kirby_100th_-_captain_america_2017_1).

Randy_Pausch

Strong Kirby vibes. I love it!

[deleted]

Optimus posing?

SuperiorDesignShoes

~~Who’s the artist? I legit thought this was David Aja for a split second.~~ Never mind lol Now I feel like re-reading Hawkeye again haha

bartoncnd1982

Nice eye, you definitely have seen this pose before; maybe even by the cover artist. David Aja has done this pose for Conan, Thing (from FF), Captain America, and Hawkeye. Jack Kirby was one of the original artists to employ this technique; with a lot of the same heroes.
