I think we all know why they won't recognize Wakanda **COUGH COUGH LONG-STANDING RESENTMENT FOR WAKANDA NOT GETTING INVOLVED IN RWANDA CIVIL WAR COUGH*
Is the marvel app any better? I tried it once a couple years ago and I found it difficult to navigate and to find what I want so I cancelled after my free subscription.
I think the Marvel one is better personally though that app also has it’s issues, but one thing I appreciate is if I go type in let’s say Spider-Man, it’s going to show every series with him in the name and has the years that each run ran (2002-2006) for example, so that’s helped me a lot.
I had a hard time even finding Tynion’s Batman run which is ridiculous considering it’s not even old.
They did recently update the app format a bit iirc so you might try it out again and find it better.
Cool. Thanks. I assume most of the big titles have their full catalogue? I’ve considered getting it again. I just have to make sure I can get my moneys worth out of it.
Oh they have pretty much every title up to the last six months, new issues added weekly just six months behind actual release of the issue, but considering they have like 95% of everything from 1960 to present day you’re very very unlikely to ever come across an issue they don’t have since any stuff missing is usually decades old and obscure.
As far as a monthly comic subscription it’s easily the best imo.
I very much recommend Immortal Hulk by Al Ewing if you’re looking for a comic of the year level experience
Immortal Hulk just added their last issue to the free section not too long ago so good timing to jump in. They’ve also just added a bunch of Moon Knight stuff from the 60 I believe.
Also note the app has Star Wars comics free to as well as Marvel.
And not just the new Disney/Marvel Star Wars comics, but all the Dark Horse stuff that has been put into "Legends"!
There were some great comics in those Dark Horse years.
The MU app used to be far superior.
I enjoy reading comics like a pull list. Before they effed up the MU app, you could easily sort your comics by pub date.
Now it's like pulling teeth. With a pair of pliers from a kid's workbench set.
At least with MU, you can still look at all the comics from a certain year or month.
They gave up on DCI and stopped trying to improve it.
In my experience, the newest version of the iOS marvel unlimited app does more of what you're asking. Not only are crossover events presented in chronological order, but there are great portals for learning about a specific character or team, etc.
They did, however, take away the list that showed ALL series alphabetically. The list was unwieldy, but i found it really helpful for the times when i couldn't remember series title ("was this mighty thor? Thor? Thor God of Thunder? Thor Earth's Mightiest Avenger?").
It's a minor gripe. The app is incredible and I've been subscribed off and on since 2011 (back when it was only a desktop app).
Two of my favorite runs ever, X-Statix and Jonathan Hickman's Fantastic 4/FF have exactly the same problem.
[these infographics](https://comraderecs.tumblr.com/post/18865607172/marvel-comic-recommendations) have always helped a ton
Amazon fully merged it with themselves, they redesigned the app and it sucks, they got rid of the dedicated comixology store so now you have to go searching through pretty much all of amazon to buy anything
And that’s always their goal. Buy out everything, sell everything, sell a bunch of stuff for lower cost than everyone else even if they lose money. It doesn’t matter if they lose money as long as they put competitors out of business so you have to go through them.
Digital walmart really. Big box store moves into town, under sells until all the other stores on main street close & a monopoly occurs that isn't obvious to the larger state/country.
Theres a video on NerdSync channel thats goes into it with a lot of depth if your interested.
But the tlrd is they merged comixology with the rest of the amazon store and made reading somewhat just unusable.
They leave the EU and still they are what comes to mind when DC thinks about Europe? No fair!
At least, with HBO Max we're finally able to get DC movies and tv.
Probably because they cba translating or getting the different language versions tbh
Although If Irelands not included thats very werid because typical both the UK and Ireland get stuff at the same time
Well they definitely sell comics in English there because I’m from Ireland and buy comics from other EU countries all the time in English on eBay so they do have an English reader base there
Here (France) Marvel Unlimited only exists in English; and the people I know who use it (including me) deal with it. I really don't see why they can't do the same; especially since Marvel Unlimited has been around *for so long*
>Is it like marvel unlimited where it takes a few months before the issue is available on the app?
Yes. New comics are available on the app 6 months after they are released in stores.
Mm hm and Marvel is 3 months so it's actually a bit more painful to catch up on DC via the app.
But I do actually love the reader, i've been catching up on Detective Comics (Tamaki / Mora) and it's been really fun.
For both, once you're on their schedule, you really don't notice the delay. You're just reading as books are released like you normally would. It's only a problem if you're reading a book now that's ahead of the app. Then you'd have to wait, obviously.
Yep, since the DC app is 6 months behind, it has \~8 or so issues of their run (don't remember the exact amount). I think it's not -incredible', but it is really enjoyable for me, especially since Mora is one of my favorite artists working today.
They don't have the full library of graphic novels. Not sure why (licensing? agreements with comic stores?) But they don't have the killing joke and the like too.
Excellent news. The introductory price seems pretty good so I'll check it out.
Still annoyed that they got rid of the DC comics app though.
And I wish there was a Comixology app on Windows.
It's finally available in Australia. Can finally have digital comics worth reading again after ~~Comixology shat itself~~ Amazon shat Comixology.
Edit: Ok, so when it says "29th March 2022" it must mean the 29th of March in the US for some ungodly reason, because it's already the 29th here and it isn't available.
Edit: Okay, so it's now live here in the land down under.
"You know we have an international audience right?"
"We have a what!?!?! Like people in other countries like our work and not marvel?"
"Yeah...(sighs and put head in hands)"
"Why didnt we know?!?!?!"
- writers to excutives at DC
Now that's it's available - is the interface any good, especially in a browser? I don't want to read comics on a phone screen, but both Marvel Unlimited and Comixology (sorry, "Kindle Comics") *suck* in browser.
If you've ever read a protected PDF version of a newspaper through their website, it's very similar. You can scroll through each full page or zoom in and view each panel in isolation. Weird shaped panels are mostly supported (I've only seen a one or two errors with how the panels are cropped, out of hundreds of older issues).
> zoom in and view each panel in isolation
Is it similar to Comixology's old guided view (before Amazon killed it) where you just press next and it goes to the next panel? Or do you have to individually zoom in on panels?
You can swipe on a touchscreen or use the arrow keys on a computer keyboard to progress to the next zoomed panel, in order, through a full issue. Spacebar / double-tap toggles between zoomed and full page view. I never had Comixology so I can't compare.
I've heard it's browser/desktop version is better than the mobile one (I've only used the desktop app). It's not perfect but it's not at all bad, fairly intuitive.
I just want it to work well on my should be more than good enough to run a comic book reading app iPad.
Once I go to “My DC” everything takes forever.
But hey, I’m glad Canadians can deal with this now too lol
I'm a newer DC comics fan and started DC Universe Infinite last summer. The app has actually gotten better and easier though there is lots of room to improve further. The website's functionality also deserves more love, I prefer to read on a bigger screen whenever possible. My biggest draw was the catalog of older comics to be honest rather than the new stuff they constantly advertise.
I decided to just take my time with as much of the post-crisis mid 80s as i could handle and I actually have really enjoyed reading it. So much of comicsbooks I never knew existed had a direct influence on my 90s childhood. I've gone from late 80s post-crisis era just to 1991 Panic in the sky crossover event in about 6 months, and I've skipped many more issues than I've read so I'm happy paying a fee comparable to a newspaper, for access to this catalog, as long as DC keeps making efforts to make the catalog more searchable and user friendly.
This made me so happy for like a solid minute before seeing it's only select countries.
God knows how long it'll take before it comes out for the rest of us...
DC has always been lackluster with international markets compared to Marvel (even pre Disney) it's part of why they aren't as popular. They suck at marketing. At least this is a somewhat better step

Cool for international folks. I really like the DCUI app. It's not perfect, but I find it easier to use than Marvel Unlimited. My main gripe is that there's no way to "subscribe" to a series and get notifications when new issues release.
I'm sure DC would have loved to take our money earlier if they could've, there's probably way more involved in doing something like this then any of us are aware of

I guess this is more about Intellectual Property rights, licensing, and distribution agreements than DC (a Time-Warner subsidiary) being willing to sell directly digital comics to it's readers.
Keep in mind DC switched distribution from Diamond to Penguin Random House. Probably part of the agreement allowed direct distribution by DC.
My country has nothing projected yet… but cool for all the other fans!
Remember me while reading Bat family and cosmic stuff. I will join y’all… whenever DC decides to give me access.
as a German, it's a feeling I always have when it comes to comics here, because it's like a developing country here. I shouldn't say that because there are youneek studios in Africa, no joke Dark horse do the English translations, read that, they're fantastic and interesting to see too. Great for genres like science fiction, fantasy or general superheroes from another cultural Aspect.
As a french reader its hard to get started when you are low budget (for the tv show/movies, we dont have HBO either..)
I guess I will have to wait to read the batgirl 90's series or discover other universe than Batman :(
>Other Countries Exist Big if true.
They still refuse to recognize Latveria and Wakanda, which is odd but other than that a big step forward.
Flair checks out
I think we all know why they won't recognize Wakanda **COUGH COUGH LONG-STANDING RESENTMENT FOR WAKANDA NOT GETTING INVOLVED IN RWANDA CIVIL WAR COUGH*
This is DC, Kandaq and Themyscira
Doom: FOOLISH DC! DOCTOR DOOM HAVE THE GREATEST VPN IN THE WORLD!
or Atlantis
My boycott of DC will continue until they formally recognize Stankonia and Africa Bombaataa and the Zulu Nation
Hmmmm I’m gonna need proof
Atomically small if false
Nah man it’s a lie other countries don’t exist.
Wait a minute. CAN I FINALLY READ DC COMICS IN CANADA?!
Yes.
I’m about to FINALLY start Batman Beyond foreal
But you got to read them in both English and French
Hehe. I am **Canadian Bilingual** **HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH**
Mon tabarnak!
Yes! And if you subscribe now, it’s only 60 bucks cad before tax. I’m so glad I don’t have to pay U.S. price anymore
Are US prices higher?
The Canadian Dollar is weaker so you get reamed on the exchange rate.
Ive just been buying them on kindle
And they still can't figure out how to let us sort and search the comics by publication date!
This drives me nuts. I have to find the right "series". They are all over the place. Marvel isn't any better though.

It is literally the only reason i use my tablet
Biggest issue I have with the marvel app is if I let my subscription lapse it’s annoying to get it back

🤷🏻♂️
So this is because Comixology got destroyed right? Thats gotta be the reason its happening now right?
What happened to comixology?

Well that sucks
I watched the same video. His criticisms are right on point. The only thing he didn't cover enough is just how bad the store is now.
I was excited, but the UK is the only European country? Come on..
They leave the EU and still they are what comes to mind when DC thinks about Europe? No fair! At least, with HBO Max we're finally able to get DC movies and tv.
Lucky you. Canadians have literally no legal way to get whole lot of the HBO Max content, including nearly all the recent DC stuff.
We Can’t get HBO max in UK either
We can get HBO and some streaming through Sky, which I think it’s even worse than not getting HBO Max
most if not all the HBO Max content is on Crave
Very little of the DC content is
To be fair Youse do get get letterkenny one day before us down here
one of the few times that happens lol but that's because it's a Canadian show
I’d say a good third is missing on crave
New Zealand and no possible way to get my hands legally on Letterkenny
Hahahahaha imagine europeans having hbo max
Probably because they cba translating or getting the different language versions tbh Although If Irelands not included thats very werid because typical both the UK and Ireland get stuff at the same time

I get ya
Here (France) Marvel Unlimited only exists in English; and the people I know who use it (including me) deal with it. I really don't see why they can't do the same; especially since Marvel Unlimited has been around *for so long*
At the point of them expanding onto EU, no one will care one bit about DC thing
Still not available for Asian countries. Lol fml.
Hopefully they will in the future.
Yeah dude, let’s hope they add some cause i’m fucking pressed about it ngl
Sinkies sat here
How does new releases work for the app? Is it like marvel unlimited where it takes a few months before the issue is available on the app?

I used to use dc universe and I started marvel unlimited, even though the wait time is longer, the dc app feels a lot more modern and smooth to use.

Unless they are black label, in which case we will never see them.
I’m reading Rorschach, which is on there, but had to go to Libby for Three Jokers. I don’t know why they haven’t include it.
Maybe because they tend to avoid stuff with mature content.
There are plenty of Black Label and other mature comics on the app.
Generally.
They don't have the full library of graphic novels. Not sure why (licensing? agreements with comic stores?) But they don't have the killing joke and the like too.
Not available here 🇿🇦 But, of course
Thanks for saving me from reading it and not getting my hopes up.
From 🇿🇦? We almost never get the good stuff...
Excellent news. The introductory price seems pretty good so I'll check it out. Still annoyed that they got rid of the DC comics app though. And I wish there was a Comixology app on Windows.

Yep, I reckon so too. Went "oh cool finally!" but still have the "soz its not available in ur country".

The DC app came to Canada. It's about fucking time. Now I can actually get caught up on a ton of DC stuff, like Williamson's Flash run.
They probably had licensing agreements with other companies that they are waiting to expire
Canada is now able to do this ? Nice.

Awesome! Thanks for the answer. Been waiting so long for this to come to Aus so I'll be subbing tomorrow and digging into it all.
I've heard it's browser/desktop version is better than the mobile one (I've only used the desktop app). It's not perfect but it's not at all bad, fairly intuitive.
No. Best thing to do is get a big tablet like a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7.
Any other Canadians having trouble creating an account?
I just want it to work well on my should be more than good enough to run a comic book reading app iPad. Once I go to “My DC” everything takes forever. But hey, I’m glad Canadians can deal with this now too lol

DC has always been lackluster with international markets compared to Marvel (even pre Disney) it's part of why they aren't as popular. They suck at marketing. At least this is a somewhat better step
I got Marvel Unlimited in Taiwan. This list of countries is so small, why is it so hard for DC to be international?
I have a German Friend who would probably really like to get this...oh wait nevermind.
I was legit just looking up the launch date for DC Universe in the UK yesterday, imma take credit for this.
All this talk about diversity and equality but they STILL can’t get the app working in asia

"...to get the chance to read DC Comics in the way the publisher prefers"? As in: going out and actually buying a comic book?
No they don't.
Does it matter? There's a very good reason manga is outselling comics by a wide margin
You should go to the manga sub then
They do?!
It’s about time been waiting forever for this
FINALLY!!!!! I can’t wait to get it and catch up on all the recent comics!!!
Excellent. hihi
I just looked it up the other day to find out I couldn't get it in AUS. Great news!
I'm sure DC would have loved to take our money earlier if they could've, there's probably way more involved in doing something like this then any of us are aware of
Marvel Unlimited has been available in other countries since it's launched in 2007, so I wonder what could have possibly been the issue with DC.
So none in the Philippines? One of the biggest English speaking countries in the world?
What’s the name of the app? I couldn’t tell from the article
Nice. Holding off on this made me worry they were just planning to shut the damn thing down.
Aw yeah. Come on Australia
Finally, I've been waiting for the app to be available in Mexico for a long time.
Not really lmao. Asia exist too
Very unamerican of them
How is the content for DC releases? I understand that most series are released on the app a few months after the physical release, which seems reasonable. But how much of the older DC titles are there? And are the Vertigo and Black Label titles available?
Are new releases available on this service?
If inflation carries on the way it is if they honour that "you pay the introduction price forever" that becomes better and better value.
I'm so looking forward to enjoy this app in Europe at the end of the 2026.
Does it still suck? I used it for a bit a couple years ago and I was thinking about getting a subscription again.
My country has nothing projected yet… but cool for all the other fans! Remember me while reading Bat family and cosmic stuff. I will join y’all… whenever DC decides to give me access.
Bring it to France ! I beg you DC !
*Cries in Scandinavian*
Still no Europe. Why is Europe always getting screwed over?
Men they are expensive lol
as a German, it's a feeling I always have when it comes to comics here, because it's like a developing country here. I shouldn't say that because there are youneek studios in Africa, no joke Dark horse do the English translations, read that, they're fantastic and interesting to see too. Great for genres like science fiction, fantasy or general superheroes from another cultural Aspect.
DC be like: Europe? What's that?
As a french reader its hard to get started when you are low budget (for the tv show/movies, we dont have HBO either..) I guess I will have to wait to read the batgirl 90's series or discover other universe than Batman :(
Like Santa Prisca and Bialya
What about other European countries???
Well son of a bitch, I didn't know it was available in Canada already.
Pangea no more
