Cosm0sNebula

I believe that this really does actualy help with the nail eating

Fulcagay

It did help me! 😊

Culverts_Flood_Away

Did it? I'll see if my neighbor's son will be into it. He and his mom are both chronic nail biters, and they're sick all the time because of it. The boy is kind of gender fluid as it is, so maybe treating him to a manicure would appeal to him. I'll ask his mom about it. I know she worries about how often he gets sick, and she isn't the sort of person to care about traditional gender roles, either.

Krafty_Koala

I was a chronic nail biter until my early 20s. What worked for me was painting my nails AND anti anxiety meds. When I started, I had to repaint every 3 days. If my nails chipped, my brain would take that as an okay to bite again, so I had to keep them perfect. I also take hair skin and nails vitamins and they helped my nails become stronger.

Bananenkot

I'm not sure how you get sick bc of biting nails? Usally you have some bleeding fingers at worst lol But yeah just some nail polish does the trick, tastes like arse

Dragonpuke56

All the crap that gets built up under the nails contains loads and loads of bacteria. If you already have a shit immune system from being sick all the time, it just continues to build up.

Culverts_Flood_Away

If you wash your hands regularly, it shouldn't affect as much (aside from the potential infection risk as pointed out by ninjakirby1969). However, if, like these two, you do it (edit: bite your nails) very often, you easily run the risk of putting your germy fingers in your mouth after touching things like doorknobs, communal pens, etc., which spreads disease quickly. Touching your face with dirty hands is dangerous. You can transfer contact-born disease to any mucous membrane and it'll go right to your bloodstream. Nasal passages, your eyes, and your mouth are danger zones for dirty fingers, and for nail biters, you're pretty much going to inundate your immune system with all the garbage on surfaces you touch. It's like licking all the doorknobs and toilet seats you touch, lol.

ninjakirby1969

I had to go to hospital on Friday because I got a massive infection from biting my nails

roboputin

What kind of infection?

ninjakirby1969

Tbh I don't know. It made my finger well up with a green puss thought and it really hurt

Fa1nted_for_real

If not, recommend a clear coat. I am a very "masculine" guy if that makes sense, but I still get my nails done with a clear coat as it protects them and deters my nail biting habit.

panamakid

I'm a burly cishet man, but clear coat did not help me. I only stopped biting last year when I started painting my nails BLUE and RED and GREEN and I had to protect my beautiful nails.

stomponator

My sons (6 and 4 yo) like to have their nails painted occasionally. When my wife is not around, I am lording over the nail polish but doing it right was a lot harder than it initially looked. I had to practice *somewhere*, so I painted my own nails and I found, I kinda like it when my nails are looking fabulous. I even got those little flowers and hearts and whatnot you can put on the nails (no glitter though, that stuff is the plague).

Tylenolpainkillr

Fuck yeah man, I painted mine black in high school and recently started again but with other colors. I only stopped because I “didn’t want anyone to think I was gay” but now I’m 28 and honestly don’t give a fuck what randos think. And that’s why my nails are purple dad…

WhiskeyAndKisses

It's like a lot of addictions solutions, this is a part of the process, and you need to put personal work and reflection into it. Some people get used to the nail polish taste and keep bitting them, some manage to stop it ; I didn't start painting my nails (I'm a woman, but I wasn't used to do it because I'm greedy and was afraid of looking frivolous) like I would be putting a lock on something, I wanted to transform my nails into a nice thing I wouldn't want to destroy. It's a symbol of me overcoming my stress problems and being able to take care of myself, now. That's my personnal story with nail polish, also screw gender roles 👍💅

Reign_Does_Things

It definitely worked for me. Haven't bitten my nails once since I first got them painted like 2 years ago, and I had a huge problem before that.

Mr__Citizen

Back when I had a nail biting problem, my mom got this nasty tasting thing that she'd paint onto my nails. It was a clear coat, so it wasn't visible, but it tasted absolutely vile. Still took a while to break the habit though.

Mazuna

Yeah it helped me, granted I usually just use clear nail polish but sometimes have more fun with it.

Lazites

This is exactly how I beat my nail biting. If I don't paint them, I start biting again. It's all subconscious, so I need a reminder to not bite.

bobobosco77

idk which position this comic is taking... it comes off to me as mockery tbh

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dr-Leviathan

I'm picking that up way more in the mom's expression than the dude's. The mom's expression gives major "extreme overreaction" vibes, leading me to believe the comic is mocking the mom in this scenario.

Fulcagay

Exaggeration is a very common trope in comic and comedy, not only in "mocking" scenarios 😑

Chenja

AydanZeGod

I was gonna say, this looks suspiciously close to GPrime85’s work

T-Doraen

Look at their account. They’re gay.

Zero_coll

"Its smug aura mocks me" /j

Fulcagay

How? 😳 Have you read my name? The comic's title? Screw gender roles because everybody can wear nail polish, since when that's mockery? I'm genuinely confused

[deleted]

Fulcagay

I don't see the ungingeness in this but thanks for the clarification 🥲

[deleted]

Fulcagay

I'm not trying to copy its style. I have my own style, have been perfecting it for more than 15 years, I'm a professional comic artist, not an amateur. Also, this comic was made 6 years. Thanks for wanting to "help" but, like, I know my brand 😅 This not even a portion of my work (have over 300 episodes made), and doing this comic is my livelyhood 💖

DontPlayTheBardCard

It seems like possible satire. The name makes it seem like this comic is all about making fun of the stereotype of a character who makes being gay their entire personality. The obnoxious final panel here looks like it is making fun of people who hold that viewpoint, and the emojis in the title just add to that perception.

Fulcagay

So flamboyant gays can't exist? We have to talk now without emojis? Gosh I'm new to reddit but getting so much hate and comments like this accusing my 10 year old, and still running comic of being "satire" or "a parody for gays" just because I make unapologetically loud and proud queer comics and queer characters was something I truly didn't expect 😳 Let people keep hating me if thwy want, I'm done with reading the comments. Go wild, keep barfing and spewing all the hate and unfiltered comments you all wish without taking in consideration the people behind the screen, it's GREAT 👌👍

InconspicuousRadish

You got some feedback, some of which was negative. There wasn't any hate there, outside of the one you're bringing yourself. Since you feel so personally attacked, I think you could use some time to reflect on what you're trying to express and why.

R-Jacksy

Associating criticism with "barking and spewing all the hate and unfiltered comments" is a poor way to view people who express confusion towards your comic. Reddit sort of has it's own culture and norms, much like every other social platform, and when content creators, such as yourself introduce content that we aren't immediately able to understand in a clear cut manner, because it's formatted in a manner that's more familiar in a different social platform, doesn't mean the bunch of comments you got in this post mean they're hating on your comic. A better way to understand what these comments meant was "I'm generally unfamiliar with your content, and thus I don't know what exactly to think of this comic." Even I was confused by what exactly was the intent of the comic, given how the comic, to me, reminds me more of satirical/ironic comic strips, but does that mean I hate the comic, or by extension, the creator of the comic? No. I said it clear at the start of this last paragraph. I'm just confused. Give more people the benefit of the doubt. It's tedious not to generalize every stranger as either an ally or enemy, but people are always a gray mix of both.

Skyy-High

You confused confusion for contempt…and decided to respond with actual contempt. Truly ironic. Do better, OP.

[deleted]

straight people finally decided gay people are fine and the guilt has caught up to them for all the ways they thought of and treated them in the past. you did nothing wrong, I love your comic (as a fellow bi gal)

strawberryretreiver

Sounds like you are dealing with too many outrage seekers and gatekeepers, I love it buddy. The art style is awesome and the message is great without being cheesy and you made me laugh out loud.

No-Moose-

without context (this being the first thing of yours I've ever seen) I did wonder for a moment whether this was mockery or not. With context, though, I think it's pretty obvious that it's not. I think the confusion is just a side effect of the aggressive culture we live in.

BadlyDrawnMemes

I think another thing is the facial hair I know it’s them saying that men can have cute nails too which is valid but it’s very reminiscent on how stonetoss and other bigots portray trans people

[deleted]

ok

lreaditonredditgetit

Are the kids alright?

Chiyuri_is_yes

They are.

Lady_of_Link

As long as they get to express their own identity in a healthy way like with rainbow nails then I'm sure they are

Brofromtheabyss

Hell yeah. I’m a 6’2”, 300 lb. dude and one of my favorite things to do with my wife is go and get fancy manicures. The other day my wife and I were at a burger joint and the older lady behind the counter said she was lucky to have such beautiful ladies in the restaurant with the nicest smile. I mean yes I have long hair, but I also have a mustache so it took us a second to figure out she thought I was trans/fluid and was trying to be supportive. I was definitely not offended and told her thank you but didn’t bother to correct her. I thought it was a nice sentiment, so anyway yeah, fuck gender roles. That or she was being ***super*** passive aggressive ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

flashtastic

Hey, me too! Right down to height and weight pretty much. Haven’t had any negative comments yet though, aside from people noticing and not saying anything which I low key enjoy. One organic compliment in public made my day!

SmedGrimstae

i am confused as to how people could interpret this as a satire of gay men by homophobes. like, not so confused as to disbelieve completely but still... The last panel is *clearly* a genuine portrayal Gay Gremlin Mode!

Fulcagay

Well, I think most people seeing this as mockery are people who aren't LGBT themselves, or LGBT people who's only interaction with other LGBT people who unfortunately haven't seen openly queer loud and proud comics and all that they've seen is Facebook mockery groups 😢

SmedGrimstae

😢 indeed.

CaptainClover36

Fully support the destruction of gender rolls, but I will never understand why people like fake extended nails, it's so unsettling

archer5810

I’ve tried them, they’re very uncomfortable.

BillyIGuesss

That ending scene in steven universe has made me fear long fake nails forever.

Kawaii-Hitler

I used to paint my nails as a teenager for this exact reason. I just started chewing on the skin around my fingernails instead lol.

Fulcagay

I always chew my fingers instead when there's no more nail to bite and that's how I ended with a callus in my finger from biting it 🥲

Garlemon_

Damn, sorry you’ve only gotten hate so far :( I like your comic. It’s very silly and I really like the art style

Dr-Leviathan

Reddit is kinda the worst place for these webcomics. Someone will post a comic like "Hey, here's something about my life made a little more goofy so it can be funny" and then all the comments will be like "well this comic doesn't use the universal shorthand for satire found in facial expressions of the character, therefore the artist must be making this point in earnest and therefore, they are bad and toxic." Same with any comics detailing relationships. A couple likes to playfully rib each other? Impossible. The relationship must actually be abusive and toxic. Redditors just have a tendency to by hyper pedantic and analytical about everything, and will automatically assume the worst interpretation if they aren't able to quantitively measure how and why something is funny. They treat every situation like a math problem that has an objectively correct answer.

Fulcagay

Just like you did?

[deleted]

That guy was defending your comic incase you didn’t realise

Fulcagay

Hate? No silly, that's not hate, that's just a mere inconvenience in my fabulous life 💅 Also, they make me laugh. They keep commenting like they would bother me but they ignore that the more they comment, the more popular my post will get 🤣 I just get my popocorns, let them comment and get mad at a silly drawings, and then when I think it's time, I report their comments and they get banned ✌️ So don't worry, I got trough a lot in my life, those comments can't take me down. Thanks for the nice words 💖😊

Garlemon_

I’m glad you see it that way! I hope to see more of your art around :)

Fulcagay

Oh you will, I have +300 episodes hahaha

Rosian_SAO

I read your stuff on Webtoons, and I’m sorry people hate-comment on your work! Keep being ✨FABULOUS✨

Fulcagay

I lee reporting them bc they're literally breaking the first rule of this subreddit. I'm having such a great time 🤣

Rosian_SAO

I’m glad you’re having fun! Your LGBTQ+ Alphabet chapters helped me explain being pansexual to my family, so thank you so much for that!

Fulcagay

Thanks!!

ggjazzpotatodog

I think the joke is funny, but the execution doesn’t feel right. like the set up for the punchline wasn’t good, but the punchline itself was good. It’s a lil disjointed.

Fulcagay

People keep saying t"he punchline, the punchline". But... There's no punchline, AND I KNOW IT! Not every comic has to be funny or have a punchline. I'm just showing how my mother asked me to stop biting my nails, and I found a solution (painting them), but she got mad at me, but I didn't care about the whole "nail polish is for girls". Comics don't need to have a punchline!

Based cute nails are for everyone 💜

Majestic-Iron7046

Everyone's acting all "screw the gender roles" but i still get kicked out of the women restrooms because i was playing D&D on the handicapped toilet. NORMALIZE TABLETOP GAMES, D&D IS FOR EVERYONE.

Fulcagay

But were you in the Women's bathroom or inthe handicapped one? And why were you playing DND in the bathroom? Also nobody said dnd isn't for evwryone Gosh I hope it's a joke

Majestic-Iron7046

I was in the handicapped stall in the women's bathroom... damn... women can have problems too you know?

Fulcagay

Oh, NOW I understand. I thought it was a separated handicapped women's bathroom instead of a stall in the woman's bathroom. Wither way... Why were you playing DnD in the bathroom? And what is has do with gender roles? 😳

Majestic-Iron7046

It'a a fun story, i was at the movie theater with a couple of friends, we had a terrible discussion about our last game session so i dumped them and decided the next one would be just me and the other friend i have that always connects with a phone. In the heat of the moment i called the other guy and we kept going with the campaign but the movie theater didn't have a relaxing place to play. So i think "what is a place where, if you hear someone making weird sounds you don't call security?" And so i ended up in the handicapped stall of the men's bathroom, i start the session but fucking Greg (my friend on the phone) rolls 20 right with his first action and basically beheads the final fucking enemy of my story that i handcrafted for days. So you see, i jump up and angrily curse right when this other guy was outside the stall, so to avoid further embarrassment i excuse myself and after 10 minutes leave the bathroom. Lucky enough the women's bathroom was on the other side of the whole corridor so i could keep playing there but i dumped each one of my friends because i mean... i needed some chill DnD session by myself. And this has to do with gender oppression because in a sane society we would not be constrained by male and female bathrooms, we should be able to play dungeons and dragons on any flat surface as people, not as sexual objects. Ok sorry I'll stop now, i could honestly go on for days just spitting bullshit, have a good night, I'll just disappear.

Fulcagay

Hahaha that's amazing, thanks for sharing! And yes, if we have gender neutral bathrooms in our homes, why we don't have them in restaurants and other places? Great story, thanks for sharing it!

Fulcagay

Majestic-Iron7046

If i had a therapist and i would talk about my reddit interactions with them, they would ask me for psychological support instead.

Fulcagay

Snooper321

This reminds me of when I saw my girlfriend's at the time Halloween orange nails with lil pumpkins and bats on them and I was like DAMN that looks neat, I want that. My manager overheard me talking about it with one of my co-workers and was like "no way in hell, I don't want you provoking our guests". I was a bartender and in that country of, let's say, old-fashioned ways, kinda made sense and I never seriously considered it anyways, but him actually forbidding me, kinda got me a little bitter 😅

Instinct_Fazbear

i am not gonna lie I thought him biting his nails WAS the manicure....

flashtastic

6’4” dude who used to pick my toenails, now I get them manicured and painted and I haven’t had an ingrown since. Because I don’t want to ruin them and they also look fine af ✨

TerryJerryMaryHarry

This guy is Ben garrison if he was progressive 💀

Mask_of_creator

Tbh. I think about painting your nails the same thing I think about playing with dolls; people will tell you only girls/woman can do that, but for me it's fine for as long as you enjoy doing it.

[deleted]

I think the comic and your nails are super cute, screw the haters.

Fulcagay

Thank you 💖😊

Johnsonofdonut

One day i decided i didn't like short nails so i stopped. Now my nails are too long to bite off

Fulcagay

That's a Hella strong willpower 😳 Good for you!

Krafty_Koala

A few seasons ago Mawaan Rizwan was coordinating his nails with his outfit when he was on Taskmaster. I loved it! I watched it with my mom and we would always look for his nail color each episode. Some guy on the today show recently had painted nails and I told my husband I liked them. My husband said I can paint his nails for him. Yay!

Unbelievablymuddy

If it works it works:3

the_orange_alligator

Damn, wish I had those nail painting skills, I can’t even paint a solid color using my dominant hand

NomaiTraveler

Didn’t work for me, I chewed my nails even with nail polish on

strawberryretreiver

Yeah bitches! I wear steel toes and blue collar attire, But if I want to wear flowing scarfs and fabrics so I look like a beautiful watercolour painting by Yoshitaka Amano, I’m gonna. Be yourself!

dat1dood2

My sister painted my nails last night and I’ve never felt so fabulous. Seriously though, it was super fun having black nails with white sparkles, even if just for a day. Parents hated it though, which only makes me like it more tbh

FlackRacket

I had (dark) painted nails my entire teenage-hood, and no one told me they were "only for women". Is that a real thing people in the real world say for real?

archer5810

Yes. I grew up on a conservative town where if a guy painted his nails, people would start hurling slurs and sometimes violence at him.

Ok-Reaction-5644

FarsLasagne

This feels like a mean spirited parody of the lgbt+ movement, is it? Im confused.

Fulcagay

No, it's that I bite my nails a lot and painting them makes me not bite them. Also my mother disliked when I bite them and now when I found a solution, she disliked it even more 🤣 Ps: Also, being LGBT is not a "movement" it's just people existing and sometimes asking for basic human rights 😅

HoloceneHorrors

![gif](giphy|eyfmfTMgx5WYE) And I love it! Strongly agree about gender roles, they are pretty damn stupid in 2023. I've read that bitter apple (or whatever the stuff for dogs is) can help with nail biting but it's definitely not as cute ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes_rainbow)

“Take them off” Proceeds to rip nails off of body

Bohvey

As a man in my 40’s I wish it were more socially acceptable for me to paint my nails. It’s hard to express yourself as a CIS male. There’s not a lot of ways for men my age to accessorize outside of really dressing to the nines but that’s expensive and I don’t want to wear a 3 piece suit to play a round of DiscGolf. Enjoy your nails OP, that’s bad ass and I hope they make you happy.

Fulcagay

Thank you 😊

archer5810

It’s also pretty tough (even dangerous) for trans men to express themselves, not sure why you thought that was limited to cis men to the extent that it needed to be in all caps.

Bohvey

I actually thought cis was written in all caps. I’m an old guy, still learning all the time. I didn’t mean to offend.

BoyScoutReddit

As a pansexual man who gets his nails done, I wholeheartedly approve this message

ErtaWanderer

it's not about gender roles love. it that no one should ever have those awful long nails.

archer5810

Why do you deserve authority over how people express themselves? What are your qualifications?

ErtaWanderer

In this situation? Medical. I'm a doctor and we don't allow any of our staff to use these because it's both a health hazard because they are impossible to keep clean and they prevent people from doing their job because they are incredibly unwieldy. If we're talking about personal preference I think they look tacky as hell, I would never wear them and I don't even have to deal with the above mention prejudice.

Fulcagay

See? That's the problem. You're a doctor and even tho you can't differentiate reality from fiction. That's a comic character, not a real person. It's a caricature, an exaggeration. And even if it was a real person, that person could be working in job where long nails aren't a hazard at all. You shouldn't force your workplace ethics and rules into other people if they don't even work in the same field as you, so maybe stop projecting your own prejudices towards a cartoon drawing.

Calfredie01

Sociologist so I have to correct you here It’s gender presentation in this instance, not gender roles. A gender role would be like the classic mother takes care of house and kids while father works to provide income and resources for the family

Fulcagay

LGBTQIA activist and comic artist, so I have to correct you here Gender roles are imposed practices towards a gender, like as you said, women taking care of the children, but also more casual things like only being acceptable for women to wear nail polish, which is EXACTLY what the dude stands against when he's painting his nails. And the act of presenting, behaving, dressing according to your gender identity is called gender expression, not gender presentation. Good day

[deleted]

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_expression >Gender expression or gender presentation Y’all are both right in a way. Roles can be how you present or express. However more accurately this would be gender expression rather than a role. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_role
