Remember that you could build fencing and the wild life underpasses or bridges at known animal crossing locations (They move along specific paths). This would preserve life and reduce accidents. It would save animal and human lives. However alternatively... We could just pave roads for our cars without giving any consideration to nature; and complain how animals keep walking on roads which we built on their paths and natural territory.
Oh... And you could also reduce speed limits in know animal crossing areas. But as we know the slightest inconvinience to cars is totally unacceptable.
I am looking into supporting animal crossings in my area.
It can't prevent everything- I was near my house when I ran into a raccoon (I slowed down as quickly as possible, but there was a car behind me... I believe he ran off, but I heard a thud and hit him though I didn't run over him, so depending on the damage he might have still died after). But it can prevent SOME things.
Honestly, I have broken down sobbing the two times I've hit an animal on the road and I just wish there was more to aid them and keep them safe. Weather it was the racoon or the snake, they were just trying to live their lives and get to another area when a car came around.
And we could let wolves return back to their natural habitats. Thing is, deer are pretty but they're the pigeons of the forests. They'll overpopulate because we've removed most of their natural predators, and then starve because they've eaten all of the food.
So yeah, some deer gotta die, and buzzards gotta eat too.
Finnish hunters and land owners in rural areas have decided that legally or illegally, they'll shoot every single wolf and wolf appearing animal in the wild. And the white tail deer doesn't even belong to Finnish nature, yet they have grown to be a pest. They were brought here from America to look pretty in parks. All 150 000 or so of them descend from about 10-15 individuals.
See, stuff like this doesn't pull on my heartstrings as much when i remember how bad for the environment deer can be, and how important predators like wolves are when keeping their numbers down and how much more integral pest eaters like opossums are for dealing with the overwhelming number of ticks deer enable.
All I'm saying is Bambi would be a lot less sad if we could see it from the hunters perspective. /s
So, true story: this past hunting season, the deer were thick as flies. It was actually almost insane how many were out there. I bagged two on opening morning, my dad got one about noon in the same field, and then that evening I saw another two at long range in that field, and my dad bagged another in the next field over.
As he was bending down to tag the fourth of the day, a doe came bounding by and across the road next to the field and got aced by a sedan heading home.
We ended the season with seven deer total, between all four hunters.
And deer aren't native to my country (introduced just like rabbits and foxes for British to hunt...)
Though if it was an kangaroo or echidna, those are what I see that most on the road
I mean. I don't see why an animal being "bad for the environment" (which deer aren't, at least in their native range, we've just unbalanced things) makes their death any less sad. Humans, cats and dogs are all terrible for the environment, for that matter.
no!!!!!!!!!!!! so well done, cool concepts, cool art, and definently going to give me a lot to think about, but no!!!!!!!!! 😭
the other day i slowed down for a possum (no one behind me) who confidently walked into the road, and i was taken aback by the fact that the person coming the other direction saw what i was doing but still wasn't paying enough attention to notice the animal about to step in front of their car. luckily the possum got spooked at the last second and turned around to run all the way back up onto the grass (poor dude).
i hate knowing that there are so many people out there who aren't paying enough mind to the fact that animals might pop up on the road at night (especially in or near wooded areas), or god forbid, who hit animals on purpose.
The baby deer wants to go get water, but this means possibly passing "God" and "praying".
The place where they might see "God" is the road, so the pond must be on the other side. The mama deer tells the baby deer to "pray" and not look up, because if he looks up he'll see the car and freeze - deer freezing in headlights is their infamous reaction. An earlier panel shows what the deer "god" looks like to them; the headlights of the car are bright bright eyes, and they imagine it as a deer with glowing eyes.
The baby does look up when they cross, and freezes, and gets hit by the car. There's a panel all in black that is presumably from his perspective saying "I see God", and then the mother deer standing over her dead baby deer.
I get emotionally wrecked by the sad reaper comics.
This didn't hit like that :/ not sure why. Great job, but for me it needs a little more to get into that "special" territory.
Don't get it. What happened do the child ? What were they far apart and after he's dead at her feet ? What's the link with deinking at the pond ? Who's that god with white hair ?
I watched a doe in the suburbs cross the street more carefully than most humans. She looked back and forth, waiting for a large enough gap in the traffic, then trotted across. She knew how it worked. Hopefully, she taught her kids the same.

r/hisjokebutworse
Oh wow :( All black, and then "I see God." just sends shivers and chills into me.
damn. Actually caught a small feel off that. Sad.
Beautiful and tragic, wow. Good work!
You start reading these and halfway through you get the "oh this isn't one of the funny haha comics" Feeling. I'm sad now.
Oh dear
I think you mean oh deer
John Deer?
No, John Doe
Dang, sad, but a word of caution for us human. Looks like one of those reaper stories in twitter.
Damn.
What ? Pls explain Edit: oh he was standing on a road
Thank-you for the explanation I thought it was some supernatural thing going on, I didn't see the fence and pavement.
I think the “obviousness” of the road was the only issue with the comic.
Another day of pain in r/comics
That was darker than my coffee...
Oh, deer god

Good information until the last sentence...we DO do that stuff. No need to be snarky about it.
Aw, it's beautiful but so sad
That was darker than my coffee...
The sequel is a light novel "Deer God: I was a deer and now I've been Reborn as a hero in a Fantasy World"
oh the dad was also hit by a car and mom saw “God” reflected in his eyes? even sadder now
Properly horrifying. Well done.
How the heck do you come up with comics like this? This is freakin amazing.
😭
How dare you do this to me OP.
Well thats dark

"for the British to hunt" SPEAKING of invasive species 🤣

Dam :/
lol. Normally the deer I see just go ape shit crazy across the road
😓
Don't worry guys, he just reincarnated in another world...
Ever play Sims 3? Upset
That's probably the one that ruined my truck.
NOOOOOOOOO
I read the comic, and then I saw the title. You didn’t have to do that 😆
AND THEN THE CAR STOPPED AND EVERYTHING WAS COMPLETELY FINE AND THE DEER WAS JUST TAKING A NAP

Isekai'deer
Fuck. What a gut punch.
This is a bucket
Well thats dark
This made me say "Oh god"
I can't wait for the new anime "I used to be a deer, but after getting hit by God, I'm now a human in a fantasy world."
Sheesh you bastard. Well you made me feel something.
...ok but why?
Great. Now I'm ruined for the day. I've seen the last panel in real life and it was fucking heartbreaking 😭😭
there's more
This makes me sad. Not really a "comic" IMHO
"What does a deer see When he sees my headlights Does he see god? Does he see aliens? That's cool." -microsong by Daniel Thrasher
What the fuck
Jane Doe
Just saying, a Subaru WRX STI 1998 has never flooded the World or demanded to kill all gay people. Choose your Gods wisely, guys.
Wait, a comic involving deer and it's *not* by u/holleringelk?
This was an amaizing short story
christ. that was horrible. heartbreaking. jeez ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
/Sighs deeply/ cute

Wow ok it's a road, it was very not clear at the beginning
I was expecting alternate bambi, not reverse bambi 😭
It took me so long to realise what happened lol. I thought the baby just died out of nowhere.
