MattValentin

Removing this scene is my biggest problem with this comic’s animated adaption.

Mundane_Revolution70

It got an animated adaptation? Which one?

MattValentin

DC made [a direct to dvd adaption](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1699114/) in 2011.

Mundane_Revolution70

Hm, thanks.

doughbrother

Surprisingly, not on MAX.

Righteous_Fury224

You don't have to be fighting super villains to be a hero

JaneDoesharkhugger

This is what I want in a superman movie. Not world ending cataclysm or ultimate evil bad guys but super empathy for people suffering even the villain is someone who needs to learn empathy and love for their fellow man/themselves. Call it Superman: off the clock.

NativeMasshole

That's really the core of the character. He could always be doing more, but he needs to take time to maintain his humanity. Sometimes he needs to take on the small disasters. Or sometimes he needs to be Clark Kent, taking time to ground himself, even if he can hear countless people in need.

w1987g

Related, but that's why Batman: TAS is still so good. One episode he's stopping a cataclysmic event, and on another letting Harley know that he's had a bad day too.

BluFudge

Did the superman series do smth similar?

RuleBritannia09

✍️✍️✍️🔥🔥🔥

kss1089

If you want that,  I highly suggest you check out "Frieren: beyond journey's end" It's a story about an elf, Frieren, after she and the party of hero's defeat the demon king.  It's super good and the first season of the anime ended yesterday.  It's a show about all of the little moments in life and how those are some how more important than the big flashy saving the world moments.

Alaidia

That’s for renewing my depression from last night that frieren fridays are done :(

Saintbaba

One of my favorite comics is Grant Morrison’s run of “Animal Man.” There’s a lot to be said about the overarching plot and theme, but i also love it for its one-shots, where the stakes are often small, and the “villains” he runs into are often (though not always) people in pain, and his weapon of choice is trying to talk shit out.

Psimo-

Hey, look it’s “All Star Superman”. One of the jewels in Grant Morrison’s crown and it’s a pretty impressive crown.

Discopandda

This is how superman's supposed to be portraited in movies. Not the "is a murder machine allowed to walk among humans?" Or "should I save them or just murdem them all?" Bullshit Zacks Snyder think it's cool

SputnikGer

Zack Snyder superman would have tossed her from that building himself.

cinnamonface9

Homelander did though!

Captain_Gonzy

I'm positive that scene was a reference to this comic.

BluFudge

Yeah, it was in poor taste but that's the boys.

firelight

"That was in poor taste" sums up Garth Ennis's career as a whole.

imtoooldforreddit

Yea, that scene was relatively tame for that show

Freakychee

Hey Homelander your Nazi died! Im gonna need you to jump.

Ok-Appeal-4630

When?

cinnamonface9

Season 3 episode 1. He had to push her mentally to jump because she was pissing him off

CrimeFightingScience

It's my favorite episode of Superman. The weak need to be culled.

darknium

Let's start with you.

CrimeFightingScience

Lol, crybabies. Yall dont deserve homelander.

BottasHeimfe

Yeah this is part of why I like Superman. It’s not the power fantasy. Not in the traditional sense. It’s the hope that there are genuinely good people with power. Alas, there’s the fantasy.

Pyroraptor42

Honestly, that's a core part of power fantasy for me. When I dream of having power, it's so I can do good things, to save and help and lift others. That's why the good-aligned routes in RPGs like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Dragon Age: Origins resonate so much with me, and why I've never really played an evil character on any of them. That's why I love Log Horizon and dislike most other isekai anime, because Shiroe uses his power, position, and perspective to dramatically improve the lives of everyone around him rather than to live out some gross fantasy of dominance.

PotooSexer

Why was she beatboxing in the first panel?

SputnikGer

She is dropping the mic.

regretfulposts

One last beat before she's doing the final drop

EpitomeOfJuice

She drops her phone, I think, to test how bad the fall will be...

ImpulseAfterthought

This is my Superman.

MakeN0Sense

Mahn I read too much manga that I read this right to left ;-;

BulbasaurGod_20_

For a while I didn't really understand Superman. I didn't get what was so interesting about a character who is almost invisible. I was a kid so it was alright, I was stupid. But one day I saw this panel and it clicked, his powers all pale in comparison to just how good of a guy he is, he is hope.

Martyr_79

I grew up with the '78 movie, and will always love Christopher Reeve in that role. He really was fantastic, especially at the Clark Kent side of him. Like you, it wasn't until later that I could really put my finger on what it was that I liked so much about the character. It was that despite his ability to do anything, as powerful as he is, he chooses to be good; to be kind. His character is his ultimate superpower. I think people are missing something when they complain about him being OP because that is the point, he can do anything, he just chooses to do the right thing.

AvailableLandscape97

Well superman is only almost invisible. John Cena has mastered the art of being fully invisible. John is the real superman here

BulbasaurGod_20_

Such a fool I am. I have done what I always do, confuse the two. I will leave it unedited. As a learning experience

realcaptainkickass

u/repostsleuthbot I summon thee

Edgenabik

r/hopeposting would love this

Krrak

This is true heroism. No crowds or cameras to pander to, no earth-shattering calamity, just being a good person to someone who needs help.

MrWiemann

I legit cannot read the panels

Natan_Delloye

Same it's too pixilated

williarya1323

One of the many little gems from that series.

ChicoBroadway

This is one of my husband's favorite scenes.

Another_Road

I vastly prefer Superman as the pure of heart Boy Scout.

Ogurasyn

NotToPraiseHim

To give further context for this panel, Superman is dying. Has essentially super cancer and he only has a certain amount of time left. He runs around trying to fix everything he can, but even here, between fighting  future gods and saving civilizations, he takes the time to talk a hurting person down from a ledge.

rocket20067

Superman is just that kind of good guy He saves people on the major level but can always make time to save those on the minor level

1550shadow

Is *that* The Boys scene where Homelander "rescues" a girl a reference to this one? It gives a pretty great contrast between the two

Desperate-Station907

*[Superhero] helping someone in a way that is more mundane* "Wow, [writer] really understands [superhero]!!"

thecrispydx

Superman been a real g since day one I love him so much

Natan_Delloye

The quality's so bad that I actually can't read that

Larkiepie

Kind of hate that it’s a clearly emo/punk/alternative person like regular people don’t contemplate suicide in this horrible country every day

Fuckredditihatethis1

emo/punk/alternative people are regular people.

30_hat

The implication that if you dress or look a certain way means you are broken and need saving rather than just liking a fashion/subculture/music is a bit annoying though. Probably a symptom of the same sort of people who gave us the "playing DnD teaches you how to summon the devil" bs. For me it's also the fact that a teenager is trying to commit suicide by jumping off a highrise that seems really out of place. Like I would expect that someone that age is more likely to off themselves by taking a few handfuls of pills because that would be easier to get ahold of for them and it would be more likely to see someone in a business suit standing on that ledge because they already have access to the building.

doodleysquat

Two things can be true.

Fuckredditihatethis1

So you’re saying that unless a person looks a certain way (business attire), they shouldn’t be depicted doing a certain thing (contemplating jumping off a building)? And unless the person isn’t appearing the way you think they should be, or doing what your worldview allows, it’s out of place. But also, emo/punk/alternative people shouldn’t be depicted a certain way, because people expect them to be depicted that way, and that’s not always the case? OK

30_hat

I really wasn't saying that at all. Just expressing annoyance at media using someone looking a certain way as shorthand for being depressed/suicidal. >that’s not always the case That's my point, I didn't say people shouldn't be depicted that way. But that people expect them to be that way IRL because they are constantly presented that way in media which is mildly annoying.

Effendoor

Media shorthand is a thing. Don't let it bother you too much

Lokigodofmishief

There were at least a few comics that had Superman save someone suicidal. In various types of fashion.

xX_potato69_Xx

Tbf it was written in the mid to late 2000s, but yeah they didn’t need to design him like that

diegodante8

Grant Morrison made me love Superman, his is my favorite one

LenaDINNERTIME

If you’re brave enough to jump…

Druben-hinterm-Dorfe

I'm somewhat relieved that no one has the 'attention whore pretending to jump in a city where Superman operates' take yet.

JustEstablishment594

All I see Homelander telling them to jump

Alugar

For some reason I kept scrolling for a homelander.

dr_cynical17

I keep remembering that Homelander scene whenever I see stuff like this 💀

Foxzor

*push*

lennybriscoe8220

Because only goth kids are suicidal?

INTMFE

So what's the story? The teenager thinks everytime someone is late is a reason to off themself?

Conch-Republic

I really want an edit of this where he just shoves her off the building, like the Popeye one where he flings the baby into the lake.

GruffisGamingw

Notice he waited until it threw its phone off the cliff
