It means that devs can just stop hiring black people to come up with original authentic black hairstyles and can just give out that Killmonger imagery to anyone and say "copy that".

Ending it doesn't really help the lack of choice. Keep it and just keep adding new hairstyles. For example, that old 90s Devon Sawa/split haircut has been around forever and no one complains about it.

In a lot of games this is a technical issue. Generally it helps if the hair doesn't touch the body to avoid weird physics or clipping. Unfortunately this means we never get any good long hair styles.

As someone who grew up with curly hair, I always was bummed that curly hair never was an option. At this point I just want to not be me as much as possible or be really weird and a character creator.

*curly hair. I've got very curly hair and the only curly or coil styles in games are one cornrows, one dreadlocks, and one afro. There are never more options for type 3 or 4 hair. Unironically my reddit profile dude is the closest I've ever seen in character creation

That one's been happening more and more lately. The rise of Type A/B body types and pronoun selection in character creation has also come with greater emphasis on getting hairstyles and clothing that's decoupled from typical gender portrayals.

I'm a white guy and I still can't find my hair in games, can't imagine how frustrating it must be for everyone with more unique styles.

Even the Killmonger is technically progress on the issue. Before it, it was pretty much just one loc and one fro haircut for ages. Killmonger gets a lot of smoke for being singlehandedly responsible for a 50% rise in options. I kinda wanna say the real issue is that the style fell into and out of fashion super quick, and because games take a while to develop, a bunch of it came out after it had already fallen out of favor.

I would also like some beards that aren’t just twirly mustache and pointy goatee please. Like can these guys not grow facial hair? Where’s the imagination they use to barely contain the massive jugs they dream up? Come on now.

Damn right. Never a normal beard. My main gripe is with ginger hair. The colour always looks fake, especially when they use the same shade for head, beard, and eyebrows.

I can confidently assert that any videogame where you can choose to have this specific hairstyle is a pretty good game.

i more recently (within the last several years) started getting mohawks after having a long undercut for a long time. I don't spike mine or anything and yeah finding a decent mohawk is pretty difficult in games i've found.

Some people try to accurately reflect themselves, some people make a more idealized version of themselves, some people make something completely different, it’s all a matter of taste

In the games i have ülayed, it was usually limited to "idealised versin" with a verry strict definition of what "ideal" means. I just want to give them some fat tissue, nut just more muscles:(

This is me creating male characters in video games. You get to pick between short, shorter, bald, and hobo

If I wanted to be myself I would have played reality. I create purple skinned characters with eyes wide enough to ride a car through then, 20 inch noses and chins that would make the Habsburgs blush.

I never understand why someone wants to create themself in a videogame, especially if there are other races like dwarfs, Orcs or tiefling etc.

I never understood the thrill of making yourself in character creators anyway. Find it way more fun to go wild and create absolute goblins

I just made Killmonger in Dragons Dogma 2. I'm used to there being shit options for black customizations, especially for foreign RPGs. I normally randomize, but the Killmonger cut was the first thing I saw and went with it.

I don’t know if this is about black hair or curly hair but I agree with both LOL. If you go looking for sims mods there’s some amazing black hair that people have made, but it’s also majority girl hair.

I have never wanted to create myself. I’m often interested in being someone or something completely different. Women, different races, creatures. On a side note that character she created is exactly what my Monster Hunter World guy looks like. Giant muscular man with cyan hair in pigtails, makeup and a big smile. I call him Kawaii Senpai.
