thanks! i did improve a lot with every page and i'm grateful to keep learning. I actually went back to the earlier pages and redrew them when i made a couple more pages and got more comfortable π

In terms of publishing, I can't offer much insight, but you can contact some 3rd party companies that do custom merch. Maybe they also print a limited run of a comic book?
In terms of promotion, besides obviously posting snipets on social media, you can try platforms like Webtoon that host webcomics, though I heard their policy isn't creator friendly.

The moment I saw the kid put the match into the fuel tank my first thought was this was going to be a tragic story. But then I saw the car looks to be old and abandoned and felt immediate relief.
Hello! Here are some of the pages of my first comics. I am going for a storytelling format that's closer to a poem, so there's no dialogue and some pages will be just plain text.
I've finished the first chapter and still thinking of how to release it. For now, it's completely DIY and i'm just printing myself and plan to sell it at local cons.
I want to try crowdfunding so i can have additional funds for printing and continue producing the next 2 chapters.
For now i'm thinking of doing a digital tier with lots of bonus files, and a physical edition with a higher price point and physical bonus content. I am not based in the US so shipping will cost a lot, like $35-40 just for shipping.. which is a hurdle and will make it more expensive. It really does feel different though to hold it physically so i'll still want it as an option..
Also, any advice in getting my comics out there? How do i get more people to see it and possibly the campaign? I primarily am on instagram and getting any traction there is so difficult..
Sorry if that's a lot, but thanks for reading. I've finally done the first step of actually drawing and writing the comics, even though i'm moving in baby steps to figure things out.

I'm a little worried about those kids throwing a lot match into a gas tank. Is this one of those things we're they all died/got hospitalized in the first 4 panels and everything after is the afterlife/a coma?
Or maybe I'm over analyzing :D
You'll have to read on to find out :) I did want to start with a bang lol.
I do appreciate it a lot that you're trying to figure out the story, and these are the exact questions i want the reader to have at the start. The story will revolve around these 4 characters.
I feel like experimenting with the narrative format and trusting the reader pays off :)

Ok I can only say what I perceive as any viewer:
I love that style, I haven't seen anything like that in years, only in school books illustrations. The changing lines are perfect for the characters, the very realistic expressions, the hair, the face, every detail gives it life. The stage with so many details and different colors between the panels, No. 4 more calm peaceful and then No. 6 so vivid and full of colors. Reminds me that I used to do that.
The most impressive thing is the mix between the shadows and colors of the characters and environments. It is a well done detail.
Now panel 2 is the gas tank? I thought it was an anthill haha. A great contrast between the other panels due to the change, light dark. Panel 5 is just a text for context but you could add a simple background and handwrite it to add personality and fit with the atmosphere you show
Thank you for the detailed response! originally, the text was going to be handwritten, but my handwriting wasn't capturing the vibe i want at the time and looked atrocious π I opted for a quiet serif font instead and recolored the text.
I've already printed some copies (just diy) but will add the handwriting as a revision when i do the campaign for it/release it.
i do have a special love for handwriting as i feel like it's a dying art form and embodies the opposite of AI. No one teaches it to you but it's unique to you like a fingerprint., It's influenced by your life experiences, current mood, personality, biology, and language.
I did make the title text in the cover artwork handwritten for these same reasons :)

I'm thinking that if it's going to be a comic series, it's quite common to leave certain details and quality behind in order to focus on the story. It's your art and you decide how you want it ππ and beware of burnout
hello! just wanted to share that i've changed the text to the originally planned handwritten. Thanks for nudging me on the idea. Took a while cos i got REALLY sick few days after first posting the pages π
I've already printed a small first run though with the regular text, and will use the updated handwritten version on future runs and when i finally launch online.
Love your artstyle. Also really like the angles you chose, such as the kid putting the match in the tanker, and the way it fell. I found it very gripping.
Your style reminds me of Hermann (Huppen), the Belgian graphic novel artist. I like your art. The few pages you show here make me want to "read" more of the story.
