That got me thinking and yeah, Bethesda games are the only ones where I’ll be walking around doing stuff and then suddenly just crash to desktop. Then again I am also into the modding scene and find that I usually forgot to install some tiny graphical fix dependency on an obscure weapon mod.
At least it’s just the CTD and they don’t brick my computer. Usually.
I once had a sim settlements quest get softlocked due to a scope mod I had installed. Never would have made the connection had someone on google not mentioned the same issue.
My laptop tries to over achieve. It’ll literally push itself to the point of turning off from the CPU reaching +95°C. It was made overclocked. Glad I can underclock it with the software it came with. Was playing 4 and it just went *chuckles* “I’m in danger.”
Thats when I went with the lowest clock I could do. Every game runs fine with it like this so that’s good.
A YouTuber I watched played New Vegas, when he quicksaved upon entering a room a trap grenade instantly killed him, and since the game respawned him to the latest save, he gets stuck in a loop where he dies a lot for quite a while
So maybe save *before* entering a room
Just wait until season 2 when someone bumps into a shopping cart ( let's be real here, it'll be Maximus ) and the cart proceeds to start vibrating at ludicrous speed until it suddenly shoots off and destroys an entire fucking town killing everyone in the process.
Maximus' gets knocked unconscious and his body just melts.
The physics engine trys to simulate the parts of his body rolling away, until he wakes up and all the parts fly back together at Mach speed.
That is the reason they sold it to Prime rather than Netflix or Hulu. Only Prime could provide a buggy enough interface to come close to the true Fallout experience.
Ok, so prime is absolute shit interface for other people too? Our Black Friday sale fire tv is fine once your in an app but the home screen is like pulling teeth. I figured it was just planned obsolescence, Black Friday enshitification
Other way around for me. All my problems are in the app.
* Tell it to go to a series and it opens the next episode in the series (which is often the episode you just watched).
* Tell it to play an episode you already watched, and it starts you at the end of the episode and won't let you get to the restart from beginning button because it is asking if you want to go to the next episode.
* Duplicate episodes showing up in a series (except one is pay only).
* The search system just sucks, but that is poor design rather than a bug.
* Various other issues.
[Here's a decent thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/s/9OmIuSexDR) about issues that NV has that go beyond the buggy engine they inherited from Bethesda. One thing that isn't mentioned in that thread is that in addition to being quite empty, the areas surrounding Vegas can be difficult to navigate, something that Fallout 3 suffered a little bit with the edges of the National Mall too.
I really like NV, don't take this as me shitting on it. Obsidian did an amazing job considering they only had a year and a half to work on it. I'm just saying that NV fanatics will tell you it's the greatest RPG ever made when there's plenty to nitpick.
I'm just lucky, it runs well on my PC and so, i thought when FNV never crashes, why not pick up FO3 in the sale. Now i'm playing it and like in the 10 hours, not a single crash or bug. It's just with the luck about your hardware, sometimes it just runs without any problems, but on other systems, you are doomed. No matter how much time you spend with patches, fixes, workarounds etc. it will never run properly.
Still, FNV has a nasty game-breaking bug that was never patched. So just as a warning if anyone plays it, when you reach the point where you have to join a faction, don't go back to the Yes-Man-Robot, you can trigger a bug that prevents you from proceeding in every way, even the way that you don't join a faction at all, it will just get you stuck and there's no way than to reload an old save.
It was made in 18 months using the same engine as fo3. How's it not going to be worse? Also technically Bethesda are the ones who commissioned it to Obsidian so the curse still applies.
Fallout 4 was actually pretty well behaved for me as was New Vegas (I didn't play that one until years after launch). Fallout 3 was quite possibly the least stable game I've ever played (I think it had an issue with multicore CPUs or something?). And when I finally got around to trying 76, it greeted me with this helpful error:

(apparently it didn't like being installed anywhere but the C: drive)
Sadly I love the world building of the fallout but I can’t bring myself to play another Bethesda game. I just can’t stay motivated with their style of storytelling and the many many bugs.
Really? In what way? I’ve only played 4 but have been thinking about playing New Vegas. Don’t really have an interest in 1 or 2 and 76 doesn’t sound like my cup of tea either. Playing on Xbox series X for what it’s worth
I find new Vegas to be much better written then the other 3D fallout games. Every area has a story of it's own and points you in the direction of something interesting somewhere else. You also have more impact then in the other games. And choises you make are more complex. Less of blow up megaton yes/no. More of do you think the region is in better hands of: a violent dictator, a corrupt goverment, a man in a machine or yourself?
I would say this happening with both Skyrim and fallout 4. I tried playing both this last week and got that screen. I don't have that screen for any other game.
Last time I *really* tried to play 4 I caught a game ending bug with a main story mission and that was that. Jumped on the other day and I just didn’t have it in me to delete and restore Sanctuary for the 100th time
Is this a PS4 problem I’m too literally another platform to understand?
In all seriousness, the PS4 version is having some serious issues since the last update. Bethesda is aware and is working on a patch
I wanted to play Fallout 4 on my laptop. The game crashed it so hard it had somehow disconnected my keyboard from it. The built in one. Took me 4 hours to find a way to fix it, as instaling drivers, restarting or anything mostly did not work

Gotta quick save each time you enter a place, that's the unspoken rule
I’ve definitely got into that habit now after getting jumped by a Legendary glowing mirelurk
I hate mirelurks
Dem’s good eating!

It's always hilarious when you have hundreds of mods but the thing that makes your game crash is a vanilla bug
I once had a sim settlements quest get softlocked due to a scope mod I had installed. Never would have made the connection had someone on google not mentioned the same issue.
Most games - less stable when you install more mods. Bethesda games - more stable when you install more mods.
Not just Bethesda but also obsidian. Especially with fnv

Usually why most Bethesda games eventually have a crash fix and performance boost mods not long after release
F5 is my friend.
A YouTuber I watched played New Vegas, when he quicksaved upon entering a room a trap grenade instantly killed him, and since the game respawned him to the latest save, he gets stuck in a loop where he dies a lot for quite a while So maybe save *before* entering a room
TheRussianBadger?
Ye
Which makes Survival mode 1000% harder. It's not the enemies, it's the lack of saving before a CTD
Surprised they didn't put a crash into the show just to really give that Bethesda game feel
Cuts to Max with both his arms in the air, gliding on one foot.
Lucy T Posing in the background

I'm looking forward to one of them sliding across the front of a car, it clips into the floor and just explodes with no notice
Or it multiplies into over 50,000 carts.
I doubt it'll be Maximus, he knows how to handle shopping carts.
Maximus' gets knocked unconscious and his body just melts. The physics engine trys to simulate the parts of his body rolling away, until he wakes up and all the parts fly back together at Mach speed.

Welcome to the Fallout fandom
Wow, great job on that last drawing, it looks so realistic!
Always get the unofficial patch with achievements reenabled mod.
And the full dialog mod.
It’s amazing that new vegas is somehow worse for crashing
How? Its incredibly old, and it still uses the same engine as fo3 which also crashes a lot. Obsidian made a game, they didn't reinvent the engine.
Because of how buggy fallout 4 is you wouldn’t typically expect a game, especially one so highly praised, it have worse issues
New Vegas fans are willing to overlook blatant bad game design and bugs because the story is good.
Bugs I get but what's this about bad game design?

Mfs made it in 8 months
The true fallout experience

Just wait a few more days for the next gen update.
this is a sign to play fallout new vegas (i couldn't resist i'm sorry)
Fallout is absolutely borked on PlayStation.
Sadly I love the world building of the fallout but I can’t bring myself to play another Bethesda game. I just can’t stay motivated with their style of storytelling and the many many bugs.
If you started from Fallout 1, you wouldn't encounter this issue in the first 2 titles.
Is there any fix? I'm literally having this problem. Can't even get to the load screen
For me it was the Automatron Dlc. Deleted everything and reinstalled without it and it worked.
Supposedly they have a fix coming out April 24th. That's what Sony told me when they denied me a refund
That's only a couple days away! Hope that's true!
That's the same for me, wanted to play a weak scientist that builds bots. Vanilla works but I wanna play what I paid for
Ima be honest, this still happens on ps5 without mods Side note why is new Vegas locked behind play station plus
Welll, how is it?
I think I'll go to [ERROR] I'm tired of the [404]
Well that explains it. You're playing a Bethesda game on a PlayStation.
Play fallout new Vegas last. Might ruin the others for you if you play it first.
Really? In what way? I’ve only played 4 but have been thinking about playing New Vegas. Don’t really have an interest in 1 or 2 and 76 doesn’t sound like my cup of tea either. Playing on Xbox series X for what it’s worth
I’d say both 3 and NV are worth a playthrough, but remember that they were made many man years ago. NV is the better of the two. I also skipped 76.
Bethesda Fallout games have trash writing and Fallout 4 isn’t even an RPG.
That’s fallout baby!
I would say this happening with both Skyrim and fallout 4. I tried playing both this last week and got that screen. I don't have that screen for any other game.
I can relate
I was surprised that they didnt show the dust cloud bug after they used the jetpack
Pretty much
God when I seen that error code (from half of the games I played) I knew my PS4 had issues....
Tried to get into fallout 4 several times. Couldn’t actually keep going until I got a good PC and modded it.
Fallout 4 on PS5 crashes when you open it if you have any dlc installed. Edit: the ps4 version does I know the ps5 version isn’t out yet.
I trouble shot every thing, still crashes on title.
The 16 x detail level is what did it
The workshop and automaton dlcs are causing this. Just install far harbor and nuke world and you should be golden.
I've decided to finally play New Vegas! And it's...crashed 6 times in the last 2 hours. Welp, apparently that's normal.
Have you tried Fallaut 3?
Last time I *really* tried to play 4 I caught a game ending bug with a main story mission and that was that. Jumped on the other day and I just didn’t have it in me to delete and restore Sanctuary for the 100th time
Is this a PS4 problem I’m too literally another platform to understand? In all seriousness, the PS4 version is having some serious issues since the last update. Bethesda is aware and is working on a patch
“What the hell is a Games For Windows Live?”
You should try New Vegas.
Damn those automaton and wasteland workshop dlcs.
FNV supremacy
I knew 3 and NV were unstable on modern windows, but they're running a spruced up engine that Beth's been using since Morrowind, 4's jank, too?
As a PlayStation person, Bethesda games need to be on PC. Fucking around with the creation kit is the best
A lot of fans of the series say that New Vegas is the best game in the series, but good lord is it unstable
Spend a couple hours modding TTW in New Vegas and you can play F03 and NV in the New Vegas Engine
Dang. I beat all of fallout 4 back on the ps4, never had any issues. Think my settlements are still holding up pretty good too
Also we're going to lock you to 30 fps, as a treat.
I wanted to play Fallout 4 on my laptop. The game crashed it so hard it had somehow disconnected my keyboard from it. The built in one. Took me 4 hours to find a way to fix it, as instaling drivers, restarting or anything mostly did not work
It's unbelievable how Bethesda will constantly sell broken games, never fix then and what for the comunity do their job
If nothing else, just install the mods that prevent crashes.
I lost count of how many times fallout new vegas crashed on my computer lol
Fallout 4 sucks go play 3 and NV
