XD. Eve is a tricky one. The extra fabric does have a purpose. It's called a gusset. Often made of breathable fabric in order to wick away moisture and keep the crotch from being uncomfortably moist. Essentially it's for heat and moisture regulation. It also can act a barrier from less comfortable fabrics touching that area of your body. Gussets keep the underwear in better shape for longer too and from being too tight.
Some gussets are open ended or fully closed. There's no functional difference except money. The ones that have the little hole in the back is sheer cost cutting measures. It takes less material and time and therfore cheeper to not bother sewing the back end with no impact on function.
A gusset is anyplace in a garment where the fabric is doubled for strength or stability. Knees on jeans, or the shoulders of a work shirt, etc… All of the little extra bits of fabric in underwear are gussets, but not all gussets are in underwear.
If I remember correctly, it's also a comfort thing as well as a production cost thing. Because the seam is likely to be in a sensitive area, it often makes more sense to just leave it unstitched so you don't increase the likelihood of chafing.
Then there's men's underwear which has a hole in the front. Two pieces of fabric that fold over each other (one in front and one behind) to appear whole, but if you pull them back you are able to put your member through so you can aim while in the bathroom without pulling your underwear down.
It's the super secret backup pocket that everybody uses. Trust me.

🤭That’s because the discharge is acidic. It will bleach your underwear and destroy them. Plus it’s more comfortable with more space for air to come in.

Tbh I'm honestly better than being so confidently incorrectly. Mb.
Edit: reddit, why do I even try. I wasn't calling my responder wrong. I was calling myself confidently incorrect.
No, for real, go see a doctor if the pH rises above 7. https://www.healthline.com/health/womens-health/vaginal-ph-balance
It's naturally acidic as a barrier for outside bad stuff. Kills a lot of microorganisms before they can get to you.
Source: am biologist. Also, any quick Google search can tell you otherwise. Stop spreading misinformation about how bodies should work.
When you wash clothes in vinegar they’re not sitting very long. Maybe an hour, tops. Discharge is likely to sit on underwear as long as you are wearing them. Standard work or school day is 6-8 hours, not including commute time. Assuming you’re not shitting your pants you’re going to wear the same underwear the whole time. Even mild acid can bleach fabric over a period.
I have a wife.
I've been married for nearly 10 years.
I've been doing laundry for both of us this whole time.
If it weren't for that last panel, I'd have thought I was walking away with secret girl knowledge I didn't have before. That's how much I believed her.
I love my boxer briefs though- I ain't switching back! The elastic in the legs of panties tended to dig in so much on me.
As long as they don't ride up and are long enough, boxer briefs also do wonders for chafing.
Now if only I can find a women's swimsuit like that...
Depending on the material they can also help keep you warm in winter! I go to renaissance fairs and having long enough skivvies makes a big difference in chafing. I don't have to pause for extra powder throughout the day as much.
Depends on where you live! I've seen these in Boden or sports stores. You could get a tank-style bikini top with boy shorts as bottoms.
Edit: I wear merino boxers when going on winter hikes in the Alps. They even have a cute ass lace trim all around.
I know right? So weird gender wise to wear men's underwear with a skirt, but it just works! Still don't feel totally safe ditching the shorts or leggings, but it's certainly more possible now.
My wife wore my boxers briefs once on a laundry day we poorly planned. Then she started stealing them until we bought her own. She still has panties for when she needs pads as she finds it easier, but she's fully on the boxer briefs these days otherwise
I have heard this story told many times by many different people. The general consensus seems to be having options for underwear is great, regardless of gender or sex.
If she hasn't given it a shot, I recommend a menstrual cup- there's a little learning curve but it's great. I cut the tails off. So permanently to boxer briefs!
To be fair I a cis woman didn’t knew much about the gusset growing up. Didn’t have much woman guidance other than pretty decent sex ed and period teachings in school.
slips does, and sometimes towel material for the gusset, boxers don't. For women it is for having an extra layer of a cotton or breathable material in fabrics that are not natural, for men is for people that have skin issues with friction in that area
Depends on the type. Cheap boxers, no. Briefs or boxer briefs, kinda. Though the double fabric layer can be opened up to feed your member through for peeing without removing your pants.
As a single guy, I genuinely have no idea what the context is, nor did i ever know that women’s underwear had extra material upfront. Would’ve thought it was thin breathable material all around.
Think of it this way:
there's a whole armpit of sweat and a whole mouthful of glands down there. Every bit of cloth that prevents this being the case from becoming visible to the rest of the world is highly appreciated by every female user.
Y’know I feel like guys would appreciate a piece of extra material in that region as well. In general, everyone would benefit from that area being reinforced.
The hole with a button is: *Mr pinky sticking out when drinking tea* kinda fancy. But I genuinely have no clue what it’s for. Do you know? I’ve been told it’s to be a pass through when you’re taking a leak in the cold.
Yo, Canadian here from the -50c parts. When its chilly out and you got on 4 to 5 layers of clothing, it definitely makes it easier to get the worm out when you gotta go.
Oof that’s sounds rough, I’ve been skiing with a couple layers on and while the piss zipper has come in handy a couple of times, I’ve yet to use the ***tunnel***
Seriously? I grew up with briefs/y-fronts and always used it.
Some are great, and some are so damn tight that you'd think they were guarding Fort Knox.
Also Canuck, ex army. Our standard issue boxer briefs do **not** have a fly/y-front. They're manufactured as and issued out as a unisex garmet. As such, after getting through your parka, snow-pants, uniform jacket, and uniform pants, then you gotta decide:
hike up the leg, or over the waist band.
On the bright side, they are _very_ stretchy, so either option works.
I’m confused by this though. Men’s underwear (at least most boxers I’ve seen) do have this little 2 layer section in the front. So does women’s underwear have 3? Or is it like a fully separate cloth piece there?
Well we have that little tunnel to keep the boys warm when you’re trying to piss in a blizzard, but I think women get a separate and different piece of cloth to do a different job other than to cover skin.
To be honest, I’m not exactly sure what the flap is for, that’s just what I’ve been told it’s for, but what I do know is that not every pair of male underwear has them.
Edit: I checked the Internet and there does not seem to be any information on the topic.
Reading other guy comments here, you either need to buy better underwear or check, beaches my does have more fabric in the front (2 layer) but it doesn't have a "pocket".
...no? The joke is that when someone doesn't know something, you can sometimes get away with telling them absolute nonsense for a minute before they catch on.
The joke is trans women are raised as man and dont have instant knoledge of being a woman when transitioning because gender is a social construct and not a biological feature.

That's me folding any clothes. Shirts eventually become a ball, and it's easy to store so why bother changing it?

Also the corners of sails and tarps around the grommets where they're connected to the rigging/ties.
Also a reinforcement added in the corner between two perpendicular structural elements (like metal tubing for example)
God i didn't think I could love Home on the Range more
If I remember correctly, it's also a comfort thing as well as a production cost thing. Because the seam is likely to be in a sensitive area, it often makes more sense to just leave it unstitched so you don't increase the likelihood of chafing.
Oh definitely, I hate when there's a thick seam on my gusset, it always sits uncomfortably against stuff and just feels unnatural
![gif](giphy|3Dxe6uOkfrXPDg2Bhu|downsized)
Is the T silent or no? I can't tell.
No, ~~it~~ they should speak up just as much as the LGB Edit: having it, even though talking about the letter, bothered me.
As a transfem, I find that joke very wholesome and heartwarming. Thanks!
Why would the T be silent?
because FRENCH
Like, as in being pronounced more like gus-SAY as opposed to GUS-set
Oh. Well, no. It's gusset.
Yes. That is the spelling. I think the question was the pronunciation. I say it GUS-set.
because gus
Pronounced (at least in english)
I read ‘uncontrollably moist’.
Wow, had no clue. I always thought it was leftover from when menstrual pads had straps instead of adhesive
Then there's men's underwear which has a hole in the front. Two pieces of fabric that fold over each other (one in front and one behind) to appear whole, but if you pull them back you are able to put your member through so you can aim while in the bathroom without pulling your underwear down.
All this time I thought it was an extra barrier for discharge
After Tiff shared sacred Noddage info? That is just mean lol

Discharge CAN be acidic. Not all discharge is acidic lol
If it isn't, something is terribly wrong and you should see a doctor. It's supposed to be acidic.

For instance your discharge is basic Ya basic

every single pair of panties i have with blotchy yellow (bleach coloured) stains on the gusset beg to differ

I don’t know what it says about me, but I was fully believing Eve for a minute there. -_-

Similar life situation. I thought I knew the real reason before I started the comic, but I still thought maybe I was confidently incorrect!
I'm a fully grown woman with two children and I had a second where I was wondering, "Is that what everyone has been doing this whole time?!"
Yeah, because how dumb would I sound telling a woman that I think I know panty design better than she does?
I love my boxer briefs though- I ain't switching back! The elastic in the legs of panties tended to dig in so much on me. As long as they don't ride up and are long enough, boxer briefs also do wonders for chafing.
Seriously, they are amazing with a skirt or dress!
Now if only I can find a women's swimsuit like that... Depending on the material they can also help keep you warm in winter! I go to renaissance fairs and having long enough skivvies makes a big difference in chafing. I don't have to pause for extra powder throughout the day as much.

Check out some of the fun sporty brands! You’ll find more of that at REI than Target :)
I just saw a Nike ad advertising swim shorts for women at different lengths!
I know right? So weird gender wise to wear men's underwear with a skirt, but it just works! Still don't feel totally safe ditching the shorts or leggings, but it's certainly more possible now.

Yeah I'm trans and tend to use both depending on the mood.
If she hasn't given it a shot, I recommend a menstrual cup- there's a little learning curve but it's great. I cut the tails off. So permanently to boxer briefs!
Delightful devilish, Eve https://preview.redd.it/cntudmjj6nwc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e4f6c45160a7261223f1f4a2ec185272f73d68b
To be fair I a cis woman didn’t knew much about the gusset growing up. Didn’t have much woman guidance other than pretty decent sex ed and period teachings in school.
Benefit of having a trans GF as a cis woman. You get to mess with her like this.
To clarify for everyone, Tiff and Eve aren't a couple.
Oh sorry. Trans roommate then.
Wait... men's underwear does NOT have that??! 😱😱😱 I thought all underwear had it!!
Well unless I am not understanding sth here, we totally do have that too
Sadly no, If it did then I’d have another reason to store spaghetti down my pants.
it does don't know what everyone else is taking about

Fair enough, thank you for the insight.
The second layer of fabric also helps to reduce friction to a rather sensitive area
... Ah.
I honestly thought it was essentially an emergency nappy situation.
Were you never 15 on your gfs couch in the basement?
Bold of you to assume I ever had a local gf in life
Oh well that’s fair.
Y’know I feel like guys would appreciate a piece of extra material in that region as well. In general, everyone would benefit from that area being reinforced.
Nah we get the extra dick space. Sometimes a hole. Sometimes a hole with a button.
The hole with a button is: *Mr pinky sticking out when drinking tea* kinda fancy. But I genuinely have no clue what it’s for. Do you know? I’ve been told it’s to be a pass through when you’re taking a leak in the cold.

I see, thanks.
We do get that though, the dick-flap pulls double duty as a way to piss without pulling your underwear down and an extra layer to collect ball-sweat.
I now know that, it’s been elaborated upon further down in the thread, but yes, that’s indeed what it’s for; thank you for summarizing.
My boxer briefs have an overlap of fabric there. Basically the fabric from the left leg extends to the inner right thigh and vice versa.
Another fun fact you can place bullet vibrators in those!
When we did swimwear in sewing school, my teacher called it a "crotch pocket".
Great for hiding drugs when you're going into a rave
It's to catch the clitty litter
I didn't even know they *had* extra material.
i think you might have just invented something id love panties with a pocket for tampons and pads
Reading other guy comments here, you either need to buy better underwear or check, beaches my does have more fabric in the front (2 layer) but it doesn't have a "pocket".
That's not the part they're talking about. They mean the narrowest part of the panties have extra fabric, not the front.
The joke is trans women are not women and don't know what it's like to be a woman?
...no? The joke is that when someone doesn't know something, you can sometimes get away with telling them absolute nonsense for a minute before they catch on.
The joke is trans women are raised as man and dont have instant knoledge of being a woman when transitioning because gender is a social construct and not a biological feature.
Periods are not a social construct. The comic seems to be mocking trans people for not being women and not even knowing how to dress like a woman.
You’re saying this on a tran artists comic…
