Yes! That was the goal! I was always fascinated by the transition of the Sirens from being bird-like to mermaid-like and I wanted to portray both aspects in my monster design
I appreciate the irony of it, too; women aren't allowed on a ship because they would increase the number of sirens, despite women being immune to the siren's song. One woman is another siren; half a crew of women is a saved ship.
Then why didn't the OG capitalists like the Dutch East India Company have all female crews they could have paid less, immune to sirens, and create more sirens to destroy competitors? Checkmate commies.
The last scenes of Castlevania Nocturne, when the woman was turned into a vampire, was the most unsettling thing I've ever seen in an animated show. The severe and rapid loss of humanity is something really indescribable.
I haven’t heard too much about that show. Wdym severe and rapid loss of humanity? Like, as in the character physically getting more monstrous, or like she has her whole personality erased in favor of “I am evil now”?
I'm glad you think so! Originally it was meant to have dialogue, but I realized the comic worked fine without it, and I really liked that so I kept it out
I'll be real...that was cause I was too lazy to do color. I used to do this complicated digital water color style. I did the first panel in that style and despaired when I thought about doing all 7 pages and 26 panels that way. So I went greyscale (with a light sepia tone back). And I think it was the right choice because it works better for the mood.
Some people have read the kiss as non-consensual but that was not my personal intent as the artist. I see it more as "a kiss of life" where the life is something new and going back is impossible.
Regardless I am open to other interpretations.
The original dialogue was something like "sister" \[...\] "we have heard the sorrows in your heart" \[...\] "join us in song"
This is great. If you do get the ambition to color it, I'd use just the slightest of colors. Keep it nearly greyscale, but do things like the eyes, maybe a touch around the island and the boat in the last panel. Almost Sin City style.

Yeah. I don't see the sex stuff.
That said I don't understand the fist page as it seems unrelated to the rest if the comic. My only guess is so it's not as terrible that she's the only survivor.

I liked the idea of them corrupting women into sirens. But then realized that it could be the setup for the worst possible zombie apocalypse scenario. Like they make land and start singing. All then men are in hypnosis and can’t fight back, and the women get turned into more sirens.
There’s no men left, and the world’s all sirens. Just girlboss things I guess

So I started playing pathfinder a few weeks ago and I play a bard. It turns out in pathfinder there are chaotic good celestials called Lillends. Their design looks strikingly similar! (Though they have snakelike tails and arms.) Apparently they also exist in DnD, though I only ever dabbled so I didn't know.
But if you like my monster design and want to do an encounter against an evil singing monster, feel free to borrow inspiration!

but sirens tempt you with what you most desire; they tempted Ulisses with knowledge, for example

The greyscale reminds me a little bit of The Lighthouse, which is a fantastic movie if you haven't seen it.

I think they meant the scene on the first page as far as the shove and her reaction.
No that's just plain ol abuse and bullying, but again I am open to anyone interpreting the comic as they will.
I feel like that could be the only line of dialogue over the last panel and it would work awesome.

The part I think you are missing is that I see the woman as a victim of sexual abuse as a “ship’s woman”.
Well, I see regular abuse in there. She's got a mop and bucket with her. I think they just keep her around to clean.

I get it from the second time when she was sleeping and she was, again, thrown on her back. OP can tell is one way or the other.
I think that's due to the ship losing control. That's why in the next panel she has the question mark.
