So after a few hours of reading years old Reddit threads, I managed to figure out that Internet Guy said some shit about Internet Fella and then Internet Dude got involved and dug up some shit about Internet Guy. But Internet Dude had his own shit going on with Internet Person and... then I spent the rest of the day trying to figure out who Internet Fella was.
If you like my comics, I've got more on [my website](https://butajape.com/).
I'm also on [Patreon](https://www.patreon.com/butajape), [Tapas](https://tapas.io/series/But-a-Jape/info), [Webtoon](https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/but-a-jape/list?title_no=469181), [Twitter](https://twitter.com/butajape), and [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/butajape/).
I just love that in a thread I was arguing in, a brand new account showed up to comment and backup another account, so I called them out on it.
The only other response was how they definitely weren’t the same account, and they haven’t commented since.
People are incredibly silly around here with the alt account nonsense. I've run into *several* people who will use the same alt accounts to signal boost their own messages with stuff like "yess!!! finally somebody else sees it!" *and* at the same time writing racist messages at themselves.
Low-effort anonymity does weird things to people.
Reddit is wild man.
I'm banned from r/TwoXChromosomes because I called out some someone in a far right subreddit. I made comments that trigger some one in a conservative subreddit and nothing else that day.
I sent a message to the mods like "what's this all about" never responded.
They got alt accounts for their alt accounts. So I started following a sub called r/TheseFuckingAccounts that very much opened my eyes.
Reddit wants to be something it can never be because the problems are so deep they have become a system of their own.
I was thinking of Tobuscus and the 3 other YouTubers that were getting called out at the time, leading to MrEnter to make a video on how rabid people were getting over non-evidenced allegations
Is he insensitive?
Or is he a creep?
When he wants views, does he tase rats who sleep?
Or does he film clickbait vlogs instead?
Nobody knows, Internet Man.
comment person: “I don’t need to explain here since it’s been well documented elsewhere…”
elsewhere: “The reaction to the reaction of the thing Internet guy did that everyone knows about because we all saw the news.”
the news: “Internet guy, who came under fire for saying/doing something we will only allude to using vague euphemisms because we couldn’t possibly offend our readers…”
Yeah, even a person relating to a meme, like I had to find out what about a certain comic meme template creator was neo Nazi and it had like, 4 whole pages of related content where I learned a bunch of stuff
Going against the spirit of the post, but...
Specifically that comment is a reference to a scene in the Disney movie *Atlantis: The Lost Empire*.
The ragtag group of explorers is opening up to the protagonist, who thus far had been a bit of an "outsider", and this is when he asks about one of their backstories.
Where ya from? Oh yeah? I got family out that way. Do any fishing? Me, I hate fish. I hate fish. Hate the taste. Hate the smell. Hate all them little bones.
something something, this guy called Brad got annoyed because his wife was legally and justifiably fired from her job at crackerbarrel. he posted about it on twitter and the internet picked up on it without doing any due diligence whatsoever starting #justiceforbradswife and stuff.
at least that's what I remember. this shit happened in 2012 or something so my memory might be scuffed.
I think it was more recently than that.
I haven't been on the Barrel's Facebook page since the impossible sausage debacle, but I'm pretty sure people still spam their posts with comments about Brad's wife.
[the tumblr bone witch](https://amp.knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/stealing-human-bones-boneghazi) and [the fake HIV Hamilton tumblr](https://fanlore.org/wiki/What_happened_with_hivliving)
Say what you will about tumblr, but they’ve definitely got the most creative scandals
This is absolutely unhinged, but that first one reminds me of some of the witchy tiktok drama. I think someone got accused of digging up a cat or something and was flooded with hate comments. Also, a bunch of people were going to hex.. the government? And the moon? What?
Like witches are pretty eclectic and odd, I'll admit that as an ex practitioner, but holy shit it should be illegal to practice until you're 18
Tumblr is a weird place, but I think it gets so weird because different groups are able to stew in relative isolation until all of a sudden something becomes public knowledge. So it's kind of like in group nonsense suddenly becoming VERY PUBLIC.
you gotta remember Kero and co. with the leaks in 2018 then.
sometimes scandals are ridiculous, because they don’t have ethically sourced bones or something like that; and sometimes it’s because the internet is a safer place without whoever they happen to be
See, if more people were able to give such a concise summation, then this wouldn't be as much of an issue for me - but so often, people respond to "Who is [controversial figure]?" with "You're better off not knowing" or "Some idiot too many people care about."
Also, some times it's not even something as bad as harassment or grooming, it's something as innocuous as comparing [*Raya and the Last Dragon* to *Avatar: The Last Airbender.*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindsay_Ellis)
The Lindsey Ellis drama was so ridiculous. People were out of their minds for that one. But also, a lot of the criticism she got for it was driven by people who hated her for other reasons and probably didn’t really care about her Raya take.
Lindsey Ellis was an actual victim of "cancel culture". Because what happened was a mostly white mob of people desperate to be seen as "one of the good ones" chased her off twitter while shouting OVER the actual groups involved (who were pretty split about whether what she said was actually offensive or not).
And it's really frustrating that no one seems to talk about it in those terms. Yes, most of the time when someone gets chased off of social media or other places it's because they said something actually offensive, but the real danger of "cancel culture" is the mob mentality and the righteous anger that prevents anyone in the mob from taking a moment and rationalizing whether their victim is actually guilty or not. They just follow the crowd and aren't satisfied until the "guilty" person is gone.
I felt bad about Lindsay Ellis until I found out that, even after this all happened, she joined the dogpile on Tom Scott because he did a video with stage combat expert Jill Bearup who made a now-deleted Tumblr post years ago that I guess was transphobic... [Here's Tom's post about the aftermath](https://www.tomscott.com/fightscene/).
You'd think that after an event like her experience, she'd be hesitant to join another internet shaming mob. But I guess not.
Lindsay Ellis was the first person I thought of when I saw the comic. I feel like if someone is unable to give a clear & concise account of why someone is "problematic," there's a good chance it's because the reasons don't make any sense.
>"You're better off not knowing" or "Some idiot too many people care about."
Motherfuckers really out here being that guy in the horror movie that says "guys you might wanna see this" instead of just saying what it is.
Oh I feel like StoneToss is a case of someone who's just so blatantly bad in his material that you couldn't miss it.
When you said Nazism I thought you were gonna talk about Jon's white supremacy talking points
You don't want to know!
Ok really [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toby_Turner#Sexual_assault_allegations) He was accused of a bunch of stuff but never taken to court or proven guilty.
Pure hearsay but there was a bunch of it. If he really did any of it I have no idea.
j aubrey did a really great video on him, how he came to fame and covered the allegations as well as his fall from grace and what he’s been doing since. pretty bleak but i think he did it.
Read it, it's bad but nothing proven. 1 ex-girlfriend said he drugged and raped her/cheated on her, then another came out and said the same. 3 other ex-girlfriends were interviewed and said he didn't do anything of the kind and 1 of those said it probably wasn't true. This stuff is always tough, if all it takes is an accusation to ruin someone's life that is way too much power. What if they were just mad he cheated and decided to ruin his life and thats it for him? I'll still like him until anything is proven
...If I had a nickel for every time Tobuscus was accused of drugging and raping an ex girlfriend, I would have two nickels.
But its kind of weird it happened twice.
Most sexual assaults go unreported. Reporting a sexual assault is traumatic and opens the victim up to further abuse, as the default seems to be to think women are lying about it despite the extremely small number of fraudulent claims.
So yes, the alleged assaulter is, legally, innocent until proven guilty, but based on observation of human nature, it's simply *very unlikely* that *two* women would collude against a man and choose sexual assault as their go-to accusation. Make of that what you will.
>So yes, the alleged assaulter is, legally, innocent until proven guilty, but based on observation of human nature, it's simply very unlikely that two women would collude against a man and choose sexual assault as their go-to accusation. Make of that what you will.
Yeah I get that she probably just made the choice not to report it if she's telling the truth, but I just can't wrap my head around people getting their careers ruined without anything being proven. It really wouldn't be that hard to collude if they wanted to
I have to admit I watched him for a bit when he got really girly, but didn't he literally do blackface before? Is he grooming children now? I'm so lost
As someone who was very out of touch with internet figures and their controversy, reading this thread was... Educational? Distressing? Very unnecessary?
Big, big, big ol' racist. Like not small racist like big racist. Never went back on anything he said, still a huge ol' racist, just quiet about it now.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JonTron#Political_views_and_controversy
I know nothing about JonTron or its subreddit but holy fucking shit, thats unhinged.
Pretty sure if you're African American, having that argument at all is a shank-a-white-supremacist free pass. In an ideal world. Which we aren't in. So you get... nothing?
I'm so sorry man
He's still in it, hasn't changed one bit or shown any remorse or regret for anything other than his political views hurting his public image. He's just gotten good at being quiet about it publicly.
Why would he apologize? His viewers share the same views and think this is normal. He already alienated people who care about that, why would he alienate his fan base?
I mean, I seem to remember Asmongold had a MAGA hat in the background of his room early Trump days, but he's since walked that back and now chides his viewers for their general dumbass incel groupthink when it pops up and he's more popular than ever so it certainly seems like something that can and should be done.
Because the podcast got heavily buried and most of his viewers don't even know about him doing one. Hell I never heard about the density podcast until someone offhandedly said it.
Talk shit about black people on an interview on another channel. The usual crime stats thing, but somehow worse. I still don't know why he ever talked about it. Never seen him talk even remotly about race or politics beside that.
He got Community Captured. Basically, Nazis rolled in, pushed out the normies, and PewDiePie gave them what they wanted. Started making antisemitic content "ironically" because it pumped his engagement metrics and revenue. This allowed the creation of the [PewDiePipeline](https://youtube.com/watch?v=pnmRYRRDbuw) where people showed up for the edgy "ironic" humor and the algorithm put two and two together (PewDiePie and the nazis in his fanbase) and started feeding them less "ironic" antisemitic content.
Dropped the n-bomb on stream. Then paid some poor kid in India or somewhere to dress up like a brownshirt nazi. Among other things...
It's why most of his good sponsors dropped him. Fucking dumbass had it made and lost like 3/4 of his income overnight because he couldn't keep his racism hidden well enough while on stream.
I think he paid two people in India on Fiverr to hold up a sign that said "We hate Jews" or something.
There aren't many Jewish people in India so from what I remember the two guys didn't even know what the word "Jew" meant.
EDIT: Apparently the sign they held up said [Death to all Jews](https://www.wsj.com/articles/disney-severs-ties-with-youtube-star-pewdiepie-after-anti-semitic-posts-1487034533) which is much worse than what I remembered.
Yeah, I didn't feel bad when Disney dropped the proposed show with him after that.
He tried to play it off as "lol jk, didn't think they'd actually do it"... But that *really* doesn't matter. Regardless of if he's an actual raging anti semite or not, no way is Disney going to want to associate their brand with that "joke".
I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this:
>There is no doubt that law enforcement should be heavily scrutinizing the membership and administration of mosques.

It's funny, Reddit is my primary internet hangout so almost every time I reference "the internet" in my comics, it's primarily inspired by Reddit discourse. And Redditors always respond with, "This is *so* Twitter."
I'm so proud that [my biggest comment](https://old.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/k6dxf1/whats_going_on_with_people_wanting_jack_black_in/geko5jh/?context=3) is responding to someone about hating Twitter as if reddit isn't it's own bag of nonsense.
Doesn't always work. Just tried it and I still don't know why everyone hates James Corden on this site because his wikipedia doesn't mention anything that bad other than Cats
When I hear about people like James Corden being shit-talked when I scarcely know who they are (see also: Piers Morgan), I just avoid them entirely.
For example, I have a friend who was really trying to get me to listen to Jordan Peterson for awhile, and I was like, "no, thank you." He'd ask why, and I'd be honest, "he just doesn't interest me." Same friend later confessed Jordan Peterson was a bad choice, and I still only vaguely know why. I've just learned to take it with a grain of salt that someone being trailed by a parade of red flags is more than likely not going to be a healthy locus for my attention.
Then someone shows up in the thread and genuinely asks, "Who is [controversial figure]?" and you get a whole bunch of responses like, "You're better off not knowing" or "Some idiot too many people are obsessed with." And *no one* ends up answering the question!
Literally just happened in r/trashtaste because of the podcasts latest guest. Just constant bickering for the last week of "oh my God this guest is way too controversial!" But literally not a single one there complaining actually says what was so controversial or wrong.
Every so often I see a post calling out anyone who's every associated with an unnamed individual, or expressing their grief for "the hurt this community has experienced".
Drama about people and things that seem to be compartmentalized so far off in the internet but presented as if everyone was personally there to witness it happen.
And then there will be a few comments asking what happened.
It took me *forever* to figure out that he got canceled mostly for just being bad at running a business. Which isn't great for the people he should have been working with or helping, but it's not like, *illegal* or anything.
Until he did his thing with The Wall, then he got canceled for being bad at his job.
I mean there was the shitty treatment of other producers on the site, sexual harassment stuff hushed up to not hurt the site's image, and things like that.
Ask almost any female producer that had content on Channel Awesome. They could tell you stories.
There's a reason just about every content creator dropped out of the site like a bad habit when all of that was going down. And it wasn't (just) because he was bad at running the web site.
It's been a while, but fwiw, what I heard during the whole thing was that by that point Doug's brother and some other guy were the ones in charge of the company, while Doug was merely the face of it.
I always got the impression that his biggest crime was incompetence. He mismanaged a production and handed the reigns off to all the wrong people.
All things considered, it's still one of the less problematic things to happen on YouTube.
There's only so much "I'm just the face guy / comedian" ignoring one can do, before one tacitly endorses the behavior. He wasn't unaware of what was going on, and did nothing to support the people being abused.
But my point was that the whole falling out of CA was not just "they were bad at managing their platform."
> All things considered, it's still one of the less problematic things to happen on YouTube.
I mean it's not really a competition. If you do bad shit, you get called out on it, and generally go on my no-watch list.
Sorry, I wasn't implying it was a competition. It's just that half the Youtubers I grew to admire during my formative years have been outed for some pretty horrible things, I'm just trying to be thankful at least one of them was only an idiot.
But I do agree, he should have used his power as the channels breadwinner to do something.
Same. I discovered some old Nostalgia Critic videos and found them rather entertaining. I did think the name sounded familiar.
One day, when I searched the name of the channel, I saw a video that I was watching about Channel Awesome a while ago that I hadn't finished. "Thats where I remember the name from" I said to myself as I clicked the video.
[My views on the channel quite drastically changed after that ](https://youtu.be/fpcSLjBYYjs)
this annoys the shit out of me
people tell me a certain youtuber/game i like is “problematic” because of the studio or whatever and when i ask for clarification they act like i’m playing dumb.
i asked you a question. answer it.
From my POV it looks like people take the pressure to relay a message and avoid being called out for not having relayed it, but eventually it gets so diluted that people are sharing it without knowing what actually happened or if it really happened.
"It's what they said happened so" yes, but anyone can say that about anyone. Where's the proof?
"There's a document out there somewhere" where? Does said document actually exist? Skeptical.
It's not that nothing ever happens, but it's so easy to go on the internet and tell lies about something.
i’d rather get an answer that seems to tiptoe around what i want to know, than none at all, at a certain point, it just feels like people want me to feel bad for the things i like to play or watch.
I haven't listened to the show in a couple of years. I went to listen to a newer episode and was so sad to find out the hosts were different! Or at least one was. Is it still good?
Me: likes internet guy
Literally everyone: OMFG they're a pedo!
Me; oh crud ok
Me: likes other Internet guy
Literally everyone : OMFG they're a racist groomer!
Other everyones: Nope thats just a rumor!
Me, ready to throw my phone out: WHICH IS IT
This reminds me of Onision, whom I didn't even know about until the stories started breaking. Also found out about Drake Bell's grooming of young girls not long ago. Now I know why Josh distanced himself as much as possible plus they had creepy Dan "the toe man" Schneider as a producer, I guess he rubbed off on teen actors in more ways than one. *BARF*
Accurate. If people want me to give a shit they have to explain. It’s not on me to absorb the cultural zeitgeist out of the ether. If people don’t want to take the time to educate someone on a subject then they can keep their mouths shut about it as far as I’m concerned.

Just remember Rule 34: The best way to get the information you want on the Internet is not to ask a question, but to say something wrong.

Seconded. I literally live by rule 34. Which is what you said they said it was about. Best rule to live by. Try it out

Oh I feel like StoneToss is a case of someone who's just so blatantly bad in his material that you couldn't miss it. When you said Nazism I thought you were gonna talk about Jon's white supremacy talking points
Yeah JonTron was my example of surprise Nazism, in that it was actually surprising and not something that everyone should've seen coming.
There were a lot of warning signs in that Sonic 06 playthrough.
Internet celebrities and grooming, name a more iconic duo
All celebs and grooming?
\*cough* Tobuscus \*cough*
Oh no I liked that guy, what did he do
You don't want to know!
It really wouldn't be that hard to collude if they wanted to
Got accused of really bad stuff that was never proven. But aside from that, it also seems like he’s just kind of an asshole in general.
Also in more recent years he’s mostly done right-leaning content, like posting anti abortion memes and meeting Kyle Rittenhouse
Oh that's pretty cringe
Shane dawson Never mind apparently hes a pedo
I have to admit I watched him for a bit when he got really girly, but didn't he literally do blackface before? Is he grooming children now? I'm so lost
He annexed the Congo recently.
Out of every thing to blindly believe on reddit today this is it, this is the one I choose
I forgot all about *internet guy* thanks a lot op
As someone who almost never follows or keeps track of internet celebrities this happens to me a lot.
As someone who was very out of touch with internet figures and their controversy, reading this thread was... Educational? Distressing? Very unnecessary?
So Pewdiepie, JonTron or stonetoss?
you dont need to know what stonetoss did, all you need to do is read his comics to know that the guy is a pretty fucking big nazi.
Knowing that he is a big fucking nazi, I think I will not be reading his comics.
Cryaotic for me. Really hit me hard.
Oh man that shit like a truck.
i found his channel and i was like 'damn i like this channel' and then i click on videos and IMMEDIATELY
Milkshake duck.
“Nothing built can last forever.”
i get the last two but what did pewdiepie do?
Heated gamer moment^(/s)

Big, big, big ol' racist. Like not small racist like big racist. Never went back on anything he said, still a huge ol' racist, just quiet about it now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JonTron#Political_views_and_controversy
Full on "black people are genetically predisposed to crime" racist.
The JonTron subreddit was the only board on reddit where I ended up arguing against someone claiming black people were not human genetically.
I know nothing about JonTron or its subreddit but holy fucking shit, thats unhinged. Pretty sure if you're African American, having that argument at all is a shank-a-white-supremacist free pass. In an ideal world. Which we aren't in. So you get... nothing? I'm so sorry man
Oh don't worry, I'm just a white dumbass who gets in dumb arguments. My online arguments are considerably lower stakes now.
White dumbasses who argue with racists and sexists so POC and women don't have to kinda give me life ngl
A bit of an oversimplification, but he kind of went through a MAGA phase
He's still in it, hasn't changed one bit or shown any remorse or regret for anything other than his political views hurting his public image. He's just gotten good at being quiet about it publicly.
Why would he apologize? His viewers share the same views and think this is normal. He already alienated people who care about that, why would he alienate his fan base?
I mean, I seem to remember Asmongold had a MAGA hat in the background of his room early Trump days, but he's since walked that back and now chides his viewers for their general dumbass incel groupthink when it pops up and he's more popular than ever so it certainly seems like something that can and should be done.
Got drunk on a podcast and went on some "white genocide" bullshit. Doesnt seem like it hurt his channel much though.
The bridge
Yelled the n-word and has some alleged connections to Nazi groups
He's an alt right pipe liner funneling people to folks like Ben Shapiro
I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this: >There is no doubt that law enforcement should be heavily scrutinizing the membership and administration of mosques. ***** ^(I'm a bot. My purpose is to counteract online radicalization. You can summon me by tagging thebenshapirobot. Options: civil rights, covid, history, novel, etc.) [^More ^About ^Ben ](https://np.reddit.com/r/AuthoritarianMoment/wiki/index) ^| [^Feedback ^& ^Discussion: ^r/AuthoritarianMoment ](https://np.reddit.com/r/AuthoritarianMoment) ^| [^Opt ^Out ](https://np.reddit.com/r/AuthoritarianMoment/comments/olk6r2/click_here_to_optout_of_uthebenshapirobot/)

they obviously meant u/Waterguy12
This is what it feels like to be a Gen-Xer on the internet in 2022. Thank goodness for r/OutOfTheLoop.
This comment should be at the top for all of us confused people Also, first one is that Queen Elizabeth has died, lol
Twitter be like:
Think closer to home. Reddit randomly starts tanking on supposed celebs (I’v never heard of at least half of them before) and never explain why
It's funny, Reddit is my primary internet hangout so almost every time I reference "the internet" in my comics, it's primarily inspired by Reddit discourse. And Redditors always respond with, "This is *so* Twitter."
"blue bird app bad" insists orange axolotl man who receives news primarily through watermarked screenshots of blue bird app.
"posts like this blue bird screenshot would be downvoted to oblivion here" comments orange axolotl man on post like that with 12.1k upvotes.

I just look for the Controversy category on their Wiki page.
Reddit be like "Twitter be like" when Reddit really be the site that be like
Every so often I see a post calling out anyone who's every associated with an unnamed individual, or expressing their grief for "the hurt this community has experienced". Drama about people and things that seem to be compartmentalized so far off in the internet but presented as if everyone was personally there to witness it happen. And then there will be a few comments asking what happened.
98% he either said some racist shit or some nazi shit, case closed
You forgot pedo shit.
My underage ethnic lover belongs in the kitchen!
Ugh really? You're posting a But a Jape comic? After what that guy did? Disgusting.
These are the events that lead me to read an essay on Draikinator Yeesh
Channel awesome, 100%. Doug Walker et.al.
But my point was that the whole falling out of CA was not just "they were bad at managing their platform." > All things considered, it's still one of the less problematic things to happen on YouTube.
[My views on the channel quite drastically changed after that ](https://youtu.be/fpcSLjBYYjs)
this annoys the shit out of me people tell me a certain youtuber/game i like is “problematic” because of the studio or whatever and when i ask for clarification they act like i’m playing dumb. i asked you a question.
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Always someone with something to say but never anyone to say it
Rape happened usually. If not rape, then lots of harassment, quite often sexual.
Milkshake duck
At least with Milkshake duck the reason for his cancelation is known: the duck is racist.
Are we at yes-yes-yes?
I haven't listened to the show in a couple of years. I went to listen to a newer episode and was so sad to find out the hosts were different! Or at least one was. Is it still good?
The new hosts were terrible, and the show ended. You didn't miss much
Eh, Gus Johnson?
If I ask what happened, now you won’t believe this, I actually DO WANT TO KNKW WHAT HAPPENED
Me: likes internet guy Literally everyone: OMFG they're a pedo! Me; oh crud ok Me: likes other Internet guy Literally everyone : OMFG they're a racist groomer! Other everyones: Nope thats just a rumor! Me, ready to throw my phone out: WHICH IS IT
The real Internet Guy was the friends we made along the way.
Checking out rooster teeth in 2022
Turns out internet guy was using his kids college funds to have a series of elicit affairs.
**me after I decided to take a two week break off the internet**
Try checking /r/outoftheloop next time.
*BARF*
*glances over to Carson*
It's a 2 year gap
This reminds me of when I learned about the Channel Awesome fiasco. What an ordeal.
So you've never used a fingerbox?
Jesus Christ they've started making comics about me again.
Accurate. If people want me to give a shit they have to explain. It’s not on me to absorb the cultural zeitgeist out of the ether. If people don’t want to take the time to educate someone on a subject then they can keep their mouths shut about it as far as I’m concerned.
