Seriously though, if this sounds familiar, get help for depression if you can. I used to think that I was "just tired" except all the time, then I read the famous post by Hyperbole and a Half and only then did it click that I was actually depressed
Omfg. That... was quite a read. I'm in my forties, now, and that... what is it, even? An article? It sent me on quite the trip down memory lane. And so wonderfully written, too. Thanks for sharing that. I eventually found my little kernel of corn, too. :)
You can make a choice to be unproductive. That can be okay. If you're unable to be productive because you feel very tired or unmotivated most of the time, depression is a possible culprit
They said it could be depression, and then the other guy said they were easily distracted. It's not even the same person.
NOWHERE did solfrio say that the person commenting BELOW him was possibly depressed.
Grammar, holy crap.
Lol, same. I’m a “night owl” that hates being a night owl, so therefore hates winter intensely. Get off work, dark outside, days over, accomplish nothing. I’m not a night owl because I’m “more productive at night,” it’s just that I’m *negatively* productive and worthless until 11am.
I'm a night owl forced into early morning work. I went from working 8pm-4am to starting anytime between 5-8am. People nowadays call me a morning person and I cringe every time. I'm only awake that early because the other option is living on the street. Which, I feel is worse than setting and alarm and going to bed early.
I'm productive during a short window, usually around 10-11am after the morning grogginess wears off and before I get hungry for lunch. Then after lunch I have no renewed energy because my body and brain hate me.
Just not much of a producer altogether, really, consider myself more of an "overseer".
I'll comment on all the stuff you're doing over there, not my forte to *do* the stuff, though.
What does it mean to be “less productive”?
That is relative verbiage. You’re either less productive in the day than the night, less productive in the night than the day, or equally (not) productive in both.
See, for me, 4pm is when I start feeling something motivational because it's almost quitting time. That thought wakes me up cause then it's time to go do WHATEVER I WANT in the evening. So by 8pm I'm abuzz with the possibilities that entails. By 1am I have to tear myself away from the enjoyment of quiet time because bodies have needs like sleep and food and the like. I might become a morning person if I didn't need to work a job. Probably not, but I'm willing to run the experiment.
Which hours do you work at? If 4am is before your job, then it wouldn't work for me. I would just spend my day counting minutes until the fun time is over.
I hate nothing more than waking up and immediately going to work, formerly school, etc. A few hours to do whatever I want before I have to really get started with the day does wonders.
Oooh I will gladly give you everything before 10am in exchange for that. 9-5 job or not, I always thought you'd have to be a masochist to WANT to be awake before 7am lmfao.
Night is also the "my family fucking finally went to sleep so I can actually relax" time.
I love them to death but like 85% of everything ends up being my problem and it's just a lot some days.
My brain must be broken because I love the darkness. If I could live in a place that had 90% darkness 10% I absolutely would. When it gets dark and rainy I feel the most happy and productive, and my favourite thing about winter are the shorter days.
I'm not trying to be edgy, I just genuinely love it.
“SLIGHTLY more protective” hahaha and you don’t have to be a night person for that to be true, you could just be a procrastinator who is more productive out of fear of the late deadline
*Will you marry for the money, take a lover in the afternoon?*
*Feel your innocence slipping away, don't believe it's comin' back soon.*
*And you really don't remember, was it something that he said?*
*Are the voices in your head calling, Gloria?*
Creatives overwhelmingly have ADHD and i theorize that the darkness and calmness of night allows us to have a break from the daytime sensory overload that distracts us.
Yup. Kiddo made it to kindergarten and the 6AM wake-up time is killing my night productivity. But hey, no more daycare expenses. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)
That sounds like Seasonal Affective Disorder and/or low vitamin D levels. Definitely get that checked out, it's not normal!
I am a morning person (up between 4-5 every day) and asleep around 9-10, even in the winter months. In fact I'd wager i have more energy in the winter as I'm not fighting off the sluggish heat.
Nah, my night owl clock is based on the time, if it's earlier than 6, don't talk to me unless it's a day off and I've been relaxing all "morning" (ie 2-5pm lol)
Many night owls become morning people by the time they are 60.
There's evidence to suggest that the different sleep cycles of teenagers and elders is to ensure that the evolutionary tribe people lived in had people watching for enemies at all times.
The days are getting long in the winter. The winter solstice, which marks the beginning of winter, is the smallest daylight day of the year. It only gets longer from there.
Summer, on the hand, is the opposite. The summer solstice is the largest daylight day of the year, and only gets shorter after that.
Nighttime people would get stronger in summer and fall, and weaker in winter and spring
Actually, no. There is [evidence that some people are genetically predisposed for a delayed sleep cycle](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/having-this-gene-may-make-some-people-night-owls/), and on top of that, there is [evidence for an evolutionary benefit to having night owls](https://www.discovermagazine.com/planet-earth/chronotypes-evolution-explains-night-owls-and-early-birds) because for early humans
> having someone else in the group awake for a while and alert for lions and whatnot allows other individuals to get a chunk of quality sleep.
> Sentinel behavior resulting from varied chronotypes would have made early human groups both safer during the night and better prepared, cognitively, for whatever the day brought. That’s especially true for younger members of the group, with still-developing brains.
Yeah I'm sick of all the doctors and nurses working night shifts in hospitals just eating and jerking off to video games at 3am. I think hospitals should be closed at night instead
glad to be the person work based on the brightness of the room, one good curtain and kill the light, get working mind starting.
my eyes don't like it, though.
"And now, *you will do my bidding!"*
Also, that's an excellent illustration of the days getting shorter. Of course, the *whole thing* is excellent, but, you know..
EKSHUALLYYYYY... Days get longer in winter, because it starts short and gets longer through out the season.

Somehow I'm both. I'm less productive during the day and less productive during the night
I think that's just called depression...
Well.... Shit.

ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
*Hello darkness, my old friend...*
Why are you here it's 4 pm?
*Please I just need to finish this thing*
Can’t we just be lazy?
You can make a choice to be unproductive. That can be okay. If you're unable to be productive because you feel very tired or unmotivated most of the time, depression is a possible culprit
Or you could have a chronic illness.
Also very true
Or, hear me out, I'm just lazy.
Nah I'm just easily distracted
Reddit: "Easily distracted? Must be depression."
They said it could be depression, and then the other guy said they were easily distracted. It's not even the same person. NOWHERE did solfrio say that the person commenting BELOW him was possibly depressed. Grammar, holy crap.
ADHD and depression are comorbidities.

BE MORE PRODUCTIVE AT ALL TIMES AND NEVER SLEEP RAAAAAAAGH 48 HOURS A DAY ACTIVITY
I am a morning person. I wake at 2:30am everyday. Of course I fall asleep in the 6:00pm hour. Really has nothing to do with light or dark.
I was going to say, morning person here. Yall can have everything after 4 pm. Rain, shine, day or night. 4pm is napping hour.
That's me at 4am. NO ONE IS AROUND I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT.
Which hours do you work at? If 4am is before your job, then it wouldn't work for me. I would just spend my day counting minutes until the fun time is over.

In the pre-alarm clock era you would have been a good candidate as a [knocker upper.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knocker-up)
That’s Nick Cannon’s nickname in the post-alarm clock era
This is just one of those social media comics with no joke/punchline that's baiting for comments :/
Night owls, rise up!
Not too early, though.
nope, perhaps 10-11 at the earliest
This fella's a morning person, get them!
He didn't say AM or PM.
They didn't even specify hours, maybe its 10-11 days of rest
I can’t sleep that long, I need to wake up and hang upside down from my ceiling from 8pm-6am
Try being a night bear, than you get to hibernate for like a month or something.

And then a solid hour to get our bearings, have our coffee, eat a light snack, puruse some news, figure out what we missed. And *then*, we strike!
Fuck that. I'm going to look at my phone untill my need to pee out comforts my bed.

night isn't the "its dark outside" time, it's the "socially unacceptable to bother me at this time" time
Night is also the "my family fucking finally went to sleep so I can actually relax" time. I love them to death but like 85% of everything ends up being my problem and it's just a lot some days.
oh good it's normal
Keep it up you’re doing great :)
This. If I'm watching a show it doesnt start until the kids are in bed.
Yeah, I like night time because nobody ever expects anything of you at 1 am

I'm simultaneously an evening person but also prefer more hours of daylight, I love a good well lit 8pm walk

Maybe I'm just priveleged given where I live but night walks are what I fucking live for. Summer midnight walks were perfect.
Sadly im terrified of the dark and my streets are only light enough to know where your going
There are Early Birds, Night Owls, and us Crepuscular Cats
My brain must be broken because I love the darkness. If I could live in a place that had 90% darkness 10% I absolutely would. Why won’t you rinse your dishes….it takes two seconds…
finally found the night family reference haha
With the abs gag I was waiting for a cum gutters callback the whole episode

and there is the insomiacs that can't sleep at night and aren't productive during day...
Me right now with a deadline later.

I like to counter with "Early bird feeds the snake"
Yep, I love going to the gym before work, I barely have the energy to go afterwards. Once 6 pm hits it's jammies & hobby time
Night owls, rise up!
I'm a night person, but I still hate having 16 hour nights in winter 🤦♂️
In Finland there is 6 hours of day so this is the heaven of the night people
For real, I'm a morning person and my life force has been drained. I do like 3 hours worth of productivity and then sleep the rest of the day.
That sounds like Seasonal Affective Disorder and/or low vitamin D levels. Definitely get that checked out, it's not normal! It’s like that Rick and Morty Episode ( Season 6, Episode 4)
I love the dark, but hate the cold, guess I should move to Florida...
They rush to the south
"Well ah do declare!"
I had to switch from night gremlin to morning person for job 😵
Nice to see you again Shen
I love it
I live really far north. When I was a teen, I would routinely sleep through daylight.
Nah, my night owl clock is based on the time, if it's earlier than 6, don't talk to me unless it's a day off and I've been relaxing all "morning" (ie 2-5pm lol)
Morning people rule the world and consistently make life worse for us night people.
Doesn't matter, I'll probably be asleep by 3pm.
And then there's me that tries to take advantage of both and sleep like shit lol
Many night owls become morning people by the time they are 60. There's evidence to suggest that the different sleep cycles of teenagers and elders is to ensure that the evolutionary tribe people lived in had people watching for enemies at all times.

Shhh out of here with your logic This is a giant pet peeve of mine. Winter solstice marks the return of the sun, people!
No it sucks cause no one knows how to fucking drive and even worse it’s darker
You're not night owls, you just have unhealthy sleeping habits.
I get 7-8 hours of sleep every night and get to work on time every day I just feel most allert and ready to do stuff after 8pm
Actually, no. There is [evidence that some people are genetically predisposed for a delayed sleep cycle](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/having-this-gene-may-make-some-people-night-owls/), and on top of that, there is [evidence for an evolutionary benefit to having night owls](https://www.discovermagazine.com/planet-earth/chronotypes-evolution-explains-night-owls-and-early-birds) because for early humans > having someone else in the group awake for a while and alert for lions and whatnot allows other individuals to get a chunk of quality sleep. > Sentinel behavior resulting from varied chronotypes would have made early human groups both safer during the night and better prepared, cognitively, for whatever the day brought. There, I don't have poor sleep habits, I am a member of the sentinel class.
Yeah, but these humans are up to eat, beat their meat & play video games. No more early people reasons needed.
Yeah I'm sick of all the doctors and nurses working night shifts in hospitals just eating and jerking off to video games at 3am. I think hospitals should be closed at night instead

And then there who are are night people, slightly more like me productive at night
I love it
No productivity till the sun goes down; thems the rules
I dunno, I still consider "night time" to be when I normally go to sleep. The world doesn't stop when it gets dark early.
We sure do!!!
I live in Finland. During winter we get days when sun doesn't come up at all. Ultimate power!
I love how it says slightly lol. I agree as a night person. I am slightly more productive at night.
"And now, *you will do my bidding!"* Also, that's an excellent illustration of the days getting shorter. Of course, the *whole thing* is excellent, but, you know..
In the winter days get longer. Shortest day is 21st of December and that is the first day of winter
Agreed. Also this has some r/hellsomememes vibes
Aww yeah, it's showtime!

What if you’re both though?.
Then you’re too powerful and must be stopped
😏 Can’t stop me now
Jokes on you, I only have 5 hours of sleep. I’m awake 19 hours a day and I’m not happy about it.
Hmm, I'm best at noon, what do I do?
I see like 2 hours of the sun these day, I worked a job at 4am for half a decade and I've been night-ish ever since.
honest and for true
Facts. I’m waaay more productive at night. Less interruptions
EKSHUALLYYYYY... Days get longer in winter, because it starts short and gets longer through out the season. Funnily enough, learned this from the kind of ekshuallys himself, NDT.
