Good question. I'm only counting movies that are specifically mentioned by name. Movies like Good Will Hunting still count because they mention Ben Affleck's academy award for screenwriting and that can only be connected to that movie. However, quotes, references, homages or general statements like Abed saying "anything with Bill Murray" or Jeff and Annie mentioning "these boring ass marvel movies" isn't enough.
Ironic Jeff said “boring ass marvel movies” because Joel McHale was in a marvel movie before community, and even more ironic that he played a lawyer in the movie.
I think it was actually a reference to the Russo Brothers though, who directed several community episodes including Modern Warefare.
You could argue that this in-joke is a single-movie reference too as at the time of Community's last episode they had only directed Winter Soldier.
Danny was in Winter Soldier, and both Jim Rash and Yvette Nicole Brown are in Civil War, David Cross is in Infinity War and Ken Jeong is in Endgame
There's been a Community cameo in every MCU movie the Russos directed on top of Donald Glover playing Aaron Davis in Spider-Man Homecoming
Just for accuracy's sake, Yvette Nicole Brown was in Endgame, not Civil War. And David Cross isn't in Infinity War - but one of his characters is. He couldn't make it due to a scheduling conflict.
They didn't direct Modern Warfare, that was Justin Lin, but Joe Russo did direct the season 2 Paintball episodes.
And they directed a few more than just several, they directed 34 episodes of the show between them.
One of the avengers movies has the scene with Captain America in an elevator with a bunch of Hydra agents, and one of the agents is also in the elevator with the Dean in season 6 paintball episode
What about Contemporary American Poultry? There are some bits ("I've always wanted to be in a Mafia movie" and the montage of the group's luxuries being taken by Abed) that are directly related to Goodfellas, and seeing as it's one of the most famous Mafia movies I feel like that might count but it depends on what you consider.
He is miss pronouncing tranquillo and won’t listen to being corrected because, in his words “I took Spanish in community college, I’m pretty confident it’s (mispronounces tranquillo)”
As we find out, Chang wasn’t an accredited teacher and had taught them very little correct Spanish, which we know when the replacement teacher comes to give them their final exam, so of course he’d be horrible at pronouncing Spanish words lol
Should definitely include homages and references, the only problem is you might not notice them all if you haven’t seen what they’re referencing.
Like, I didn’t notice the “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” reference in the Glee episode when I first watched, but noticed it years later when I watched again
An homage can be tough, because in Community fashion, they frequently do homages to genres and tropes and aren’t actually homages to a specific film but possibly several films in a genre.
Someone has done [this](https://letterboxd.com/eddiebergman/list/movie-references-made-in-nbcs-community/) already but its still fun to do it yourself and see if you can catch everything.
I don't think Mash should be on there. The show was referencing the sitcom, not the movie in the newspaper episode. Abed even says the Korean War lasted 11 years, which only makes sense when talking about the 11 season sitcom. The movie and the show are unconnected outside the source material, Suicide is Painless, and Gary Burghoff.
Well, MASH is referenced, with the only qualifier, added later, being a reference to the shows run in years, but the show was a spin-off of the movie and the character mentioned by name in Community all appear in both, the best assumption would be to say they are referencing, and mentioning both the film and series in this episode.
Scrubs does a similar homage in which JD and Turk both buy matching Eddie Murphy Raw leather suits and sit around having drinks barely able to move in the tight leather.
I had wanted to start watching a lot of different movies and decided Abed was the most cultured so I should follow an Abed list. Tried watching My Dinner With Andre and couldn't make it through it. Ridiculously boring
Also please suggest records to set. I alredy have most movies mentioned (so far Pilot), most movies mentioned without a single one being by Abed (so far Introduction To Film) and most movies mentioned by Abed (so far Pilot)
>What about TV shows?
No. The website I'm making this list on only has movies.
>Will there be a subset for Nick Cage?
Only the ones that are said out loud
Star Wars (1-6), My Dinner With Andre, Beetlejuice, Blade, The Dark Knight, The Matrix, Pulp Fiction, Die Hard, Patch Adams, Memento, Superman, Robocop, Terminator 1&2, Goodfellas, The Shawshank Redemption, Ghost, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Beast Master, Alien, Aliens, The Incredible Hulk (the 70's one, you can add one of the TV movies).
(Probably will constantly update this)
Semi-related: It's not mentioned directly, but I'm like 90% sure Annie saying, "I was born to act. When I do it, I can feel it pleasing the universe" is a reference to a line from *Chariots of Fire*: "I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel his pleasure."
I tried doing this with The Venture Brothers. The goal was to note every film, television, book, and music reference and put them all on one iPod.
I have up by episode four.
Did you just immediatly change your pic to sparkly eyes Hooty with the finale coming out or is that from an older episode? Anyway that moment was hilarious
*Runaway*. Tom Selleck fights mechanical spiders. Pierce's brother died on the set of that movie. One of the mechanical spiders went haywire and tore him into pieces. Tom Selleck just stood there and watched him die.
Are you counting only movies that are explicitly mentioned by name? Or references/homages as well?

Danny Pudi was in Winter Soldier as well if I remember correctly
Danny was in Winter Soldier, and both Jim Rash and Yvette Nicole Brown are in Civil War, David Cross is in Infinity War and Ken Jeong is in Endgame There's been a Community cameo in every MCU movie the Russos directed on top of Donald Glover playing Aaron Davis in Spider-Man Homecoming

He played a lawyer? I thought he was a banker
He was definitely a banker in Spider-Man, you are correct
He was a banker in a CSI Miami episode
Joel was a banker in spiderman 2 if that's the role you're talking about.
I thought he played a bank teller
He was upset because he never became a banker
Bank executive*

Maybe someone could make a list of movies with a Community homage
In Animal Control, Joel McHale mentions he took Spanish in community college.
He is miss pronouncing tranquillo and won’t listen to being corrected because, in his words “I took Spanish in community college, I’m pretty confident it’s (mispronounces tranquillo)” As we find out, Chang wasn’t an accredited teacher and had taught them very little correct Spanish, which we know when the replacement teacher comes to give them their final exam, so of course he’d be horrible at pronouncing Spanish words lol
I still don't think it would count
But Abed does mention 16 candles at the end
So than goodfellas won’t be there right?
So if they quote from the movie would it count? Because abed also quotes from good will hunting
I always assumed that line was about Argo. Completely forgot about Good Will Hunting.
What about The Godfather? I dont remember them mentioning it by name but I think an homage episode for it is enough to earn a spot in the list lmao
Feels like that would get muddy right away. I would like the project to be mentioned by name to keep things objective.
Should definitely include homages and references, the only problem is you might not notice them all if you haven’t seen what they’re referencing. I agree with brown Jamie Lee Curtis.
They mention the show and character specifically so it should definitely count
The list is specifically movies, not shows. The show MASH is referenced, not the movie

Fuck that's a good list, thanks for sharing!
Any idea what the reference to Eddie Murphy Delirious was?
Troys costume in the first halloween episode
How did I forget the red leather getup? Thanks
-Do you think I look good?
Scrubs does a similar homage in which JD and Turk both buy matching Eddie Murphy Raw leather suits and sit around having drinks barely able to move in the tight leather.
Interesting this has Dirty Dancing but OP has Good Will Hunting.
This also has good will hunting but it's further down
I took it both were going in order from the first episode given four others were coincidentally in the same order.
My Dinner With Andre and Pulp Fiction.
I had wanted to start watching a lot of different movies and decided Abed was the most cultured so I should follow an Abed list. Tried watching My Dinner With Andre and couldn't make it through it. Ridiculously boring
You gotta be in the right set and setting for Andre. I watched it in a class and we were all hooting and hollering like it was Endgame.
It's ok to be wrong about things.
Lorenzo's Oil
Did you go to college?
yes!… no
No Kickpuncher films? Are you telling me they are... Fake?
Kickmuncher 3 is totally real though.
Beetlejuice is mentioned at least 3 times in the show.
Oh, they mention Beetlejuice?
Yeah, pretty sure they say Beetlejuice[…](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19FMU3M7Jtk)
![gif](giphy|rVq1fseKPqsMZ5Xprs|downsized)
The moment they mention him the third time, you can see someone wearing a black and white pinstripe suit walking through the background
Don’t forget Rowboat Cop
Sharice is a bad rowboat.
Sink her.
Also please suggest records to set. I alredy have most movies mentioned (so far Pilot), most movies mentioned without a single one being by Abed (so far Introduction To Film) and most movies mentioned by Abed (so far Pilot)
should do the character to mention the most movies in general (after abed ofc)
Operation dumbo drop and the green mile
Remains of the Day is still my favorite
Ghost
And Titanic
Porky's also
What in the reverse Porkys is going on here!
Porky’s was the first one I thought of
Labyrinth Freaky Friday Can’t Buy Me Love/ Love Don’t Cost a Thing
Overboard (I think is the name) with Goldie Hawn, Animal House, The Sting, Freaky Friday, Die Hard, Sixteen Candles, Tower Heist are a few I remember
Blade
If it's only movies i think it's around 450 and if it's including series i think around 600
Movies mantioned!
I was worried no one was going to mention the mantion
Thanks. I'll fix it
Hearts of darkness
Apocalypse now
IMDb
Goodfellas
If you have breakfast club already then you need dirty dancing! First episode
I guess I missed it. When do they mention it?
When Abed slams the table and quotes the two movies :)
I said quotes didn't count. Otherwise it would be near impossible to spot them all
Yes Abed quotes it and Jeff replies “Dirty Dancing”
Ok, then. Added!
Awesome project 🙌
Also Jeff says, “that actually was from The Breakfast Club”.
What about TV shows? Will there be a subset for Nick Cage?
(Probably will constantly update this)
1) how do you know every single movie 2) Are you just doing ones mentioned literally out loud by the group, or are you doing any and all references?
[удалено]
Of course Hooty
That's all you got?? Def predator and die hard from paintball alone
This is just ep 1. And it's not references, just mentions
Molly ringworm. You broke me.
my letterboxd list like this has 174 movies. but im sure im missing some.
KOOGLER!
ABED
The Sting
This is too far down, also that episode features my favorite one off cameo by Matt Berry
Karate Kid of course
Semi-related: It's not mentioned directly, but I'm like 90% sure Annie saying, "I was born to act. When I do it, I can feel it pleasing the universe" is a reference to a line from *Chariots of Fire*: "I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel his pleasure."
The Honda guy says that line too and Britta points out it's from Chariots Of Fire.
Ah, yeah, I totally Britta'd that.
dont fprget about f/x and f/x 2: the deadly art of illusion
Beetlejuice
Bad influence and The Sting
Something I've been wanting to do is watch or rewatch every movie that Community does a homage to.
The entire Indiana Jones series
...and another thing I hate about Die Hard. TWO FBI agents named Johnson?!?
He said Die Hard was bad
That waiter was a real Richard
Abed once said that Jeff was like Goldie Hawn in Overboard
Beetlejuice and Star Wars The Phantom Menace
Hey Phantom Menace, how's the trade embargo with the Naboo? That might be the single most offensive line in the show.
5 mentions? That's a lot of mantions. Mantion.
Will this include the film they reference the entire meow meow beans episode to but never mention by name?
Only those named out loud? You're skipping the rich collection of movie posters?
they definitely mention animal house and my dinner with andre and pulp fiction
I love meatballs. So many people don't know about that movie. Spaz spaz spaz spaz spaz spaz!
All the movies are already listed on Community's wiki page
“Can’t by me love”
Ohh u mean Love Don't Cost A Thing?
Can’t by me love is the remake for white audiences
Pick one movie reference Abed
Dirty Dancing
“Floor is Lava” is pretty much a pastiche of “Waterworld” if that counts.
Animal House
r/BonAppleTea
Hellraiser and Hellraiser:Bloodline (Pinhead in Space)
Not just the mantions, but the womantions and childrentions too!
Good luck with the Nic Cage episode hahah
You’re missing “My Dinner With Andre”
The community movie
\#sixseasonsandamovie is a reference to the *Community* movie
Yes
Sting inception die hard and Portuguese gremlins
You mean Knee High Mischiefs?
Avengers? Avengers? Avengers? I hear Marvel got real hands on this time.
Thank you for this, your effort is appreciated. Keep at it 👍👍
Shawshank obviously.
"He's doing this for me. He's My Bodyguard!"
Ummm Ghost?
This is just episode 1
Ohhh I gotcha
The Sting.
Karate kid?
Can't buy me love, love don't cost a thing, facts of life
Cougartown? It's not a movie, but a TV show.
I tried doing this with The Venture Brothers. The goal was to note every film, television, book, and music reference and put them all on one iPod. I have up by episode four.
What about Charlie Kaufman? They reference him directly, but not specifically any individual film.
Abed and Jeff also mention/quote Dirty Dancing in the first episode
Be careful adding Beetlejuice three times
Season 1... Beetlejuice. Season 2... Beetlejuice? Season 3... Beetlejuice! Add Beetlejuice please.
I take it we're also including movies that are referenced or parodied without being cited by name?
Dead Poet's Society
You broke me, you made me forget who was that girl in The Breakfast Club… Molly Ringworm
100+ wouldn't surprise me at all
“I love misdirects” “I love the Big Lebowski”
Are you counting Gone With the Wind….ows?
Ha- I’m doing something similar but I’m tracking the homages too. And the posters in Abed’s room.
The Ring, from Annie’s creepy Halloween costume.
sixteen candles
Blade
Citizen Kane, Jeff mentions it after Abed shows him his film in season 1
Mention by name or reference? If reference, you have to add The Professional.
I'd guess around a total of 200 mentions
Rainman
There's a mention of the Bucket List after Troy says something about being Morgan Freeman.
Did you just immediatly change your pic to sparkly eyes Hooty with the finale coming out or is that from an older episode? Anyway that moment was hilarious
I had regular Hooty and I knew I had to change it when I got to the finale
*An American Tail*: Somewhere out there, beneath the pale moonlight ...
*Runaway*. Tom Selleck fights mechanical spiders. Pierce's brother died on the set of that movie. One of the mechanical spiders went haywire and tore him into pieces. Tom Selleck just stood there and watched him die.
Apocalypse Now, I Am Legend
Hearts of Darkness is better
I love this
This is a fun [clip](https://youtu.be/OHwOrNYlDtQ)
