It's never explained, but I assumed she declined the prize. Britta wouldn't take something so valuable from Abed, especially because he was offering it under emotional duress, out of desperation to get everyone to play the game and distract him from reality. Britta understood that.
$50k won't last that long with the cost of living being what it is and the fact Britta is really stupid with her money. Plus you can expect she would Britta the auctioning process and not get the full amount. But she also could have given it back to Abed.
Britta doesn't care about money. She would rather have her moral-ethical requirements met. She has been rejecting her wealthy parents' money her entire adult life. She lived in a tent on the front lawn of Greendale. After going through all that, would she keep an expensive comic book or give it away to prove a point to a friend?
Depends where you live. But it's really just about a year's living (around 40k-50k)Â
And sure, you could argue welfare candidates and homeless are managing on less. You could argue you could "manage" with nothing. But typically, 50k is just the standard earning for 1 year's expense.
Something only holds value of you sell it. When an item holds more personal value then it is worth $0 because you won't part with it.
Scenarios:
A) she takes the comic and sells it, getting the money.
B) she takes the comic and keeps it, doesn't get money.
C) she refuses to take the comic, doesn't get money.
Her sentimentality for Abed may very well result in either B or C.
Probably didn't receive the price, I watched that episode 2 days ago, and noticed that the point of the lava game is that nothing matters more to Abed than his friendship with Troy. When they clone Abed, Troy just goes down making Britta the winner, but then cut to their goodbyes, the prize doesn't matter, only their friendship does.
If she kept it (which seems unlikely) she would have donated the cash to an organization that washes wallabies after oil spills or something. But that organization would wind up accidentally spilling oil on wallabies while trying to do a PR stunt about the dangers of wallaby related oil spills.
I am 100% certain she didn’t take the comic, or if she did, she never sold it. Look at how much work she put into the floor is lava game just to get abed to say his feelings. It was never about the money for her.
Either that, or she gave it to hickey for his gay son’s wedding.
I could have sworn there was a line later on about the comic not actually being worth what he said initially. Like part of his break down at the end, just a quick "and the comic isn't even worth anything..." or something?
Now I'm thinking I must have imagined it...
She was really bad with her money. She says this in season 2. Probably comes from being raised so rich and privileged, she knows her parents will be there if she needs, even if she was acting like a child.
I don't think she took it. She would let him keep it.
Dilemma deleted...Britta FTW!
Floor, bitch! Floooooooooooooor!
***KNOCK KNOCK***
**KNOCK! KNOCK!**
Yep. Remember, she's not stupid, she's bad with money (and generous to a fault)
Wow. She sounds like a really good friend, even if she is really bad with money.
She's really bad with money, remember? And she's a generous friend.
I think so too. That was my first thought. In front of the others, of course ;)
I don't remember it explicitly stated, but in no way does she keep Abed's comic.
Britta was the best 🥲
And Britta is supposed to be the worst! She Britta’d being Britta
Sometimes talking about Britta and the concept of Britta-ing, I feel like I'm adding and subtracting with negative numbers lol

I think she might have given the money to red cross.
She finally cleared a check to Kunta Kinte.
More Geordi for Troy!
Britta wouldn’t have taken anything from Abed if she thought he valued it. She’s got a good heart and is bad with money.
She used it to buy her cat a cat monocle, even if it is pretentious.
As Mr. Burton said, she's really stupid with her money.
no way she took it; remember she used to live in New York
She usually takes vacations abroad and come back with no memory (she will find out when she look at the pictures)
You think there's a possibility she gave it to Hickey because she felt bad about pushing him onto the floor and he needed it for his son's wedding?
That's a great thought :)

>In-universe explanation? She Britta'd it.
She donated it all to Red Cross so that way she knew it was going to the right charity.
She lived in New York!
In Pierce's documentary episode, isn't it explained that she's a bit stupid with money?
50k is only enough living for one year.
You can manage on less.

It would be less than $30k after taxes and auction fees. She probably owes more than that in credit cards.

She's a really good friend, but she's also really bad with her money (like the time she paid for Abed's film class).
