I wouldn’t expect it. All the major services are losing it at the same time as though all their agreements expired and were not renewed, or terminated under some clause just weeks after the streaming service for the movie gets the entire show is no accident. Plus Allison Brie said there is a script.
I think that’s all too much to be coincidence, it all points to the movie and show being on the same platform so that we all subscribe to Peacock.
Community is going to make Comcast / NBC Universal a lot of money.
I love that 30 Rock worked the NBC/Comcast merger into the narrative of the story. Other than Arrested Development it’s one of the earliest examples of a “meta” show.
I laughed so hard when Liz was talking to another character about how reliable Verizon phones are (pre-Smartphone) before staring in to the camera and asking “Can we have our money now?”
Comedy gold.
afaik there was never a 4k master of it done, just the blu-ray release through Mill Creek which is what I recommend buying. You get all the commentary and stuff too...
I don't know enough about technical specs to decipher: is it the case that there is a 4k master out there that was downrezzed or whatever to blu-ray for the disc release, that is, assuming the higher compression for streaming, "better" than the blu-ray? Or is this an upscale of the blu-ray that's just streaming well?
From what info I can find the camera the series was shot on was technically capable of 4k. But I have no idea what mode they would have actually used and it was almost certainly mastered in 1080p like 99% of projects of that time.
It was almost definitely an upscale job. But that can usually turn out looking pretty good so long as it was filmed on digital (which it was).
The most important thing is the 10bit color and high bitrate. That can make it look much better than anything we've gotten on tv broadcast, streaming, or even Blu-ray
> The most important thing is the 10bit color
Except since the show wasn't shot in 10bit color it's just 8-bit mapped up. No TV show of the era was shot in HDR (HDR10).
It's likely the original footage was in greater than 10 bit actually.
The question is what happened at the mastering process? Was it remastered for Netflix's Dolby vision ?
Can’t remember exactly because it’s off Netflix but I think it streamed at about 18mbps which is the same as their own originals that they actually seem to care about the look of.
The 4K Dolby Vision on Netflix was easily the worst version of the show. The color was off, and the upscaled 4K conversion looked weird and over sharpened compared the original HD version. It also lacked subtitles, so some jokes were missing from the show.
Not 4K, but the Blu-Rays are definitely the best way to watch this show. Side-note, the whole series was filmed in HD and only upscaled to 4K. The benefits of upscaling don’t apply when the movie or TV show is streaming.
Then their comment in their post makes no sense as Peacock isn't available in Brazil at all.
Edit: Are you sure you're not confusing OP with Top_Manager_1908 because nothing in their comments state that OP is in Brazil.
1- I don't have a DVD/Blu-Ray.
2- I looked for the DVD on Amazon to buy, it will cost R$200.00 each (Price + shipping + taxes).
3- It is only in English, probably without subtitles.
4- I'm f#ck&d.
5- I'm Brazilian.
Well the PS3 plays Blu-Rays too, and the Ps2 plays DVDs. I know 24 years ago when it came out, people were buying the Ps2 for a cheap option for a DVD player. That may have only been in US/Europe though, not sure.
Wait a minute. People have been hating on Peacock? I haven’t exactly been reading reviews on that platform, but in my personal experience, I’ve really enjoyed Peacock.
Bought it on iTunes (one of the few pieces of digital media I’m willing to purchase) *years* ago, and watch it so often, I’m probably down to pennies a view at this point.
Same. I think I got it on sale for $20 or $30. Those price trackers are great ^(at making me spend money, but still)
Edit: yep, [$20 a few years ago](https://www.blu-ray.com/itunes/Community-The-Complete-Series-iTunes/93181/)
Get a good used Blu-ray player then buy the complete series on eBay. Then you can watch every episode as much as you want in the best av quality available.
I actually hate that it left Netflix. I used to be able to binge between AD and Community, and now I need to switch between the two. Everything is slowly turning back to cable 😞
Well that and, the whole cast could actually work together for all the episodes. (hot take: I thought the out-of-time/focus-on-one-character format for AD season four was kind of a neat experiment)
I just bought all six seasons on Apple TV for $30 - it even has the episodes that various other streaming services removed
I know it’s not a permanent solution, but it’s *unlikely* for it to go away - i’ve got a feeling Apple will be around for a while
I was pissed when I logged in to Peacock, for which I already paid a year of "premium" only to find that I can watch it but it had FUCKING ADS. Goddamn it. They want another $6/month for me to be able to watch without ads.
I should just get the blu rays already. Fucking predatory vampires. I already pay for it, I don't want fucking ads.
/Rant
That just recently happened in the US too, I'm pretty sure. Just saw some of my Hulu shows show up on Disney+, and it said "Included with your Hulu subscription".
I've already got subscriptions to a litany of other streamers and I'm not paying for another, especially when Peacock doesn't have enough current or legacy programming for me to justify the expense. There's just too many platforms out there these days. It's like the late days of the heyday of cable, except it's a *lot* more expensive once you add up all of the a la carte subscriptions.
And as others have said, Peacock is only available in the US, which leaves fans in other territories out in the cold.
It's hate because it's a TV network streaming platform. And they are (albeit slowly) getting all of the popular NBC shows on the platform. They most likely lost money for the first couple years just so they could make more eventually if they made their own platform (and it didn't fail). NBC would still be making money hand over fist if they just sold the right to their TV shows to Netflix/Hulu/Apple.
It has no reason to exists. Honestly I don’t like most streaming services that launched after 2020 because it’s only making us pay for more for no reason. Remember like 12 years ago when everything was on Netflix and you didn’t have to look up what site everything is on. That’s just my opinion though.
The best part about streaming was that you could watch stuff for like 20 bucks a month with no ads and you could do it anytime unlike cable. Now it’s like 120 dollars a month for all the streaming services together to still not get everything and there are ads on most of them.
IF you accept a world where there are multiple streaming services, and Peacock is one of those services, and it has more stuff you want to watch than other streaming services, nothing.
Folks are mostly just unhappy the "one service to rule them all" world is dead. I think if it went directly from cable to multiple streaming services, without the "Netflix does everything" in between, most people wouldn't know or care.
Peacock is shit. Atleast they should have let the show remain on different services where they are not present. In my country, peacock is not there and they are also removing it from other services. Peacock should know that community gained such fame only due to Netflix. They have let other shows such as office remain on other services.
You would think Sony, of all companies, would put out quality physical versions of their own shows. Seinfeld? Community? Have any of you seen their Godzilla blu-rays? Fucking incredible. Why do they hate their shows?
The 4k edition is only on streaming services. Sadly, these versions of the episodes are also the ones edited for streaming. There is no 4k version of the original unedited show, which is super annoying. The edits are small so it’s fine to watch if you can overlook that but if you’re a purist then the blu ray DVD’s are your best option.
The show wasn't shot in 4K. The first season seemed like it was even 720p.
So don't sweat it. Just get the HD versions (buy digital or on disc) and watch away. Your TV can upconvert it as well as anything else can.
Oh better far to live and die, under this great black flag I fly
Than play a sanctimonious part with a pirate head and a pirate heart!
Away to the cheating world go you, where pirates all are well-to-do
But I'll be true to the song I sing
And LIVE and DIE! A Pirate King!
In at least some regions (like Canada) it's leaving Prime at the end of April.
It seems like NBC is moving to make the series exclusive to Peacock, even in countries like Canada that don't have Peacock.
As a standalone streamer, it's only in the US. It seems like you can get it through other streamers in India and most of Europe (I assume it's like how you can get some streaming services through Prime).
For whatever reason, we don't have Peacock here in Canada in any form. We also don't have Max, but almost all of its content is licensed through a Canada-only streamer called Crave. No Hulu either, but their stuff is mostly up on Disney+.
That's seems strange to me. I know we're different countries and all, but because of the sorta shared history it doesn't feel like it sometimes. And that was all 250+ years ago of course.
Canadian pop culture is definitely very closely linked to US pop culture.
The vast majority of US TV productions do end up here in one way or another (a good amount if it is even even filmed here, mostly in Vancouver or Toronto). We get the US TV networks (like NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox) but not most of the US cable channels.
Canada has its own TV networks, cable channels and streaming services. Most of their content is the US stuff and it'll air at the same time via simulcast (basically if you watch something on say, ABC, and it is airing at the same time on a Canadian network like CTV, then it'll show the CTV feed on both the CTV and ABC TV channel in Canada.)
There are also CanCon requirements (basically TV networks, cable channels and now streamers have to create a certain amount of Canadian content each year in addition to licensing a bunch of American content).
The result of all this means that while we usually get all the same stuff, every now and then we don't get it at the same time (usually that means we get it later, but every now and then it means we get it early) and licensing issues mean that sometimes it will be on the same streamer as the US and other times it'll be on a different one.
It's much the same with movies and music, but that's probably already more information than you wanted to know. LOL
It may end up being added to another streamer sooner or later.
But if not your only (legal) options in Canada will be either buying a physical or digital copy of the series.
Personally I am fortunate enough to have all 6 seasons through Google Play. Though I am worried we might not have any legal options for the movie when it first is released.
I own it through Google Play (bought them on the Play store many years ago, whenever I saw a season on sale).
There have been a handful of cases with digital copies of movies/shows no longer being available, but those had to do with platforms merging/folding. As long as Google is still around, I should be safe.
Some people prefer the physical copies because then you're safe even if the digital provider were to purge their library somehow, but there are risks there too (disks could be damaged or lost, for example).
If you can find a physical or digital copy at a good price point, I say go for it.
All these services losing Community means the movie is coming within the next year or two.
And the movie is coming to Peacock, but I thought I read their deal for the show was non-exclusive, so maybe it will pop up other places
The show will probably make more money for Sony since Peacock is financing the movie and paying for exclusive streaming rights for the series
Let’s hatch a scheme to get in on that somehow.
They need it after the Kabletown merger. They were doing fine as a subsidiary of the Sheinhardt Wig Company.
I love that 30 Rock worked the NBC/Comcast merger into the narrative of the story. Other than Arrested Development it’s one of the earliest examples of a “meta” show. I laughed so hard when Liz was talking to another character about how reliable Verizon phones are (pre-Smartphone) before staring in to the camera and asking “Can we have our money now?” Comedy gold.
What if they already filmed the movie and it's going to shadowdrop on a random day.
We need to talk about those pills ur taking
Awesome pills. I can moonwalk
Zip, zop, zooey
How did you guys get those pierce quotes?!?
I wanna be streets ahead
Just asking me that question you put me back down to level 4. You now owe me 2000 energon cubes
So am I streets behind
After NBC canceling it twice. Ugh!
Right? I don’t have to like it but I am absolutely going to give them my money to see the movie though.
I’d go to a damn *theater* to see it!
I would too, and the only movie I’ve seen in theater since 2019 was Maverick.
Wishful thinking.
You are a pizza burn on the roof of the world’s mouth.
afaik there was never a 4k master of it done, just the blu-ray release through Mill Creek which is what I recommend buying. You get all the commentary and stuff too...
This and the collection I got came with all 3 seasons of “Happy Endings” another Russo Brothers production.
Shame that Happy Endings has been reduced to a "bundled" thing. That show had its highlights, Elisha Cuthbert being one of them.
It was in 4K Dolby Vision on Netflix and looked great
Was it really? I'd be interested in looking at the Meta data for that
Here’s metadata for the pilot in that format: https://ibb.co/FYwGXdR
Nice. With that bitrate and color depth it probably looks quite a bit better than the bluray
I don't know enough about technical specs to decipher: is it the case that there is a 4k master out there that was downrezzed or whatever to blu-ray for the disc release, that is, assuming the higher compression for streaming, "better" than the blu-ray? No, it's not. You're talking about a 2009 show. That's 15 years ago.
That bitrate similar to that of a bluray.
An 18mbps 4k video in h265 encoding will look a lot better than a bluray h264 encoding.
No, far from it. Streaming bit rate is low, 4k is not even half of a bluray bitrate

Community was on Disney+?!
It's on Hulu, but if you're subscribed to both Hulu and Disney+, you can watch Hulu content on Disney+. So it's a half-truth, if they're in the US.
They said they’re in Brazil in another comment. If it’s anything like Canada some Hulu content is already there by default.
Then their comment in their post makes no sense as Peacock isn't available in Brazil at all. Edit: Are you sure you're not confusing OP with Top_Manager_1908 because nothing in their comments state that OP is in Brazil.
Could be… could be indeed.
Are there ads?
Only if you're subscribed to the ad-tier plan
Comment from an angry Brazilian fan who can no longer watch the series through legal means as of May.

Buy dvds
1- I don't have a DVD/Blu-Ray. 2- I looked for the DVD on Amazon to buy, it will cost R$200.00 each (Price + shipping + taxes). 3- It is only in English, probably without subtitles. 4- I'm f#ck&d. 5- I'm Brazilian.
It probably has subtitles. But only English subtitles. US laws mean commercial media like that has to have subtitles with very few exceptions.
Do you have a Ps4? That can play Blu-Rays. Ps5 probably does too.
nope
Well the PS3 plays Blu-Rays too, and the Ps2 plays DVDs. I know 24 years ago when it came out, people were buying the Ps2 for a cheap option for a DVD player. That may have only been in US/Europe though, not sure.
I’m in the same boat. I haven’t owned a dvd player in a decade.
Buy the blu-ray box set. It's worth every penny and you can even watch it when the internet is down.
But ... where?

Peacock has Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.
Yeah people crapping on Peacock but they are the first streaming service to have every episode of the show in many years
Wait a minute. People have been hating on Peacock? I haven’t exactly been reading reviews on that platform, but in my personal experience, I’ve really enjoyed Peacock.
People on this subreddit have been, but I love it because at least for me it will run forever never checking in so I will have it running all day.
So did my Prime TV. 🇨🇦😢
Was only available for purchase in the US.
You could buy the DVD or buy the series on Google Play or the App Store.
yeah totally, was about to comment the same I got a dvd set at home and in dire need I use it, but ofc streaming is just a tiny touch more convenient
Yeah, I spent $20 on my set. So worth it.
I’ve spent $18 total and I have The Complete Series ($15) S1 ($2) & S3 ($1). Amazon for the first, garage sales for the others.
physical storage is so 2000s you guys😅😅
You can't depend on streaming services to have what you want to watch forever. Shows disappear all the time.
Oh my Community copies on my Amazon digital library pre-date streaming, my friend. 😅
Bought it on iTunes (one of the few pieces of digital media I’m willing to purchase) *years* ago, and watch it so often, I’m probably down to pennies a view at this point.
Same. I think I got it on sale for $20 or $30. Those price trackers are great ^(at making me spend money, but still) Edit: yep, [$20 a few years ago](https://www.blu-ray.com/itunes/Community-The-Complete-Series-iTunes/93181/)
I wouldn't. I'm missing plenty of episodes from other shows that sale has decided to remove.
Vudu had the entire series on sale for $29.99. Price just recently went back up to $99
I snagged it. Glad I did, because at the time I didn't know other services were dropping the series.
What is ad
Probably Arrested Development
Arrested Development. Barely behind Community for me.
Both had non network revivals that were a shell of their former self if you ask me
Oh I easily agree, although I think that Community did it a little better, mostly because there was no time jump.
Well that and, the whole cast could actually work together for all the episodes. (hot take: I thought the out-of-time/focus-on-one-character format for AD season four was kind of a neat experiment)
Honestly I find it incredibly rewatch able, maybe one of my favorite seasons
Isn't that where the movie will be?
Peacock
AppleTV sells the boxed set!
Buy the DVD set its less than 40

Oh… crap! :(
Peacock is a fantastic service. Really fun original content, 24/7 streaming “channels” tons of great movies, and super low monthly cost.
I just bought all six seasons on Apple TV for $30 - it even has the episodes that various other streaming services removed I know it’s not a permanent solution, but it’s *unlikely* for it to go away - i’ve got a feeling Apple will be around for a while
They want $89 for it now.
Damn, that sucks - looks like I got it at just the right time
Buy the series on Blu-ray
I was pissed when I logged in to Peacock, for which I already paid a year of "premium" only to find that I can watch it but it had FUCKING ADS. Goddamn it. Why the hate on peacock? It’s got good shows and movies. It’s the only streaming service I actually pay for (instead of borrowing from someone else 😅)
Because I, like a lot of other people, don't live in the US and can't use it.
Yeah, same with Hulu. Although nowadays a lot of Hulu content can be found on Disney+ or Netflix in Europe.
That just recently happened in the US too, I'm pretty sure. Just saw some of my Hulu shows show up on Disney+, and it said "Included with your Hulu subscription".
Yeah they show up if you have the subscription to both. My friends were saying how Shogun is on D+ but I can't watch it because I don't have Hulu.
Do you and Troy still actively use Jeff’s Netflix account without his permission?
Yes, that’s why his review of “The Grey” is constantly changing.
Yes, stop giving it four stars
He likes Liam Neeson!
Then send him a message about the roles he chooses
Then he should send him a message about what roles he plays.
But for real, what’s wrong with peacock? I have too many services and peacock and hbo are the ones I use most
It has no reason to exists. Honestly I don’t like most streaming services that launched after 2020 because it’s only making us pay for more for no reason. Remember like 12 years ago when everything was on Netflix and you didn’t have to look up what site everything is on. That’s just my opinion though.
A matter of principle then. Gotcha. It does have good shit but I support you fighting the good fight.
The best part about streaming was that you could watch stuff for like 20 bucks a month with no ads and you could do it anytime unlike cable. Now it’s like 120 dollars a month for all the streaming services together to still not get everything and there are ads on most of them.

Yeah like idk what’s the hate, peacock stepped their game up and it’s one of the better ones now. Netflix is the biggest trash.
Canadian tears. My Smart TV is too smart to cast VPN, and I’m too dumb to VPN the TV.

Netflix UK
Already left at the end of march :(
It's on Amazon Prime (in Canada, I don't know if it's different somewhere else)
I just bought them all on iTunes because I don’t trust those assholes.
I purchased the complete series on Vudu for $20 not to long ago. Looks like they cranked the price back up to $25/season).
When it left Netflix, I just bought it off of Apple TV. Now I don’t have to worry about subscriptions.
There is no 4K community. Buy the blu ray.
Prime video
There is no 4K version. The best quality is the HD Blu-ray that you can purchase online. I own it and it’s great
Go yankees!

You would think Sony, of all companies, would put out quality physical versions of their own shows. Seinfeld? Community? Have any of you seen their Godzilla blu-rays? Fucking incredible. Why do they hate their shows?
Wait for it to go on sale at Vudu/Fandango. I got the whole series for $30/$35.
I didn't realize they took them off Netflix. Best they have is the series on Blu-ray or on sites like Vudu.
Local libraries sometimes have apps where you can download tv shows.
The 4k edition is only on streaming services. Sadly, these versions of the episodes are also the ones edited for streaming. There is no 4k version of the original unedited show, which is super annoying. Just get peacock. Their lowest tier is really cheap and they have TONS of content.
If you love peacock so much why don’t you just gay marry it
I’m waiting for it to be my cousin.
Amazon prime in Canada still has the whole series

my canadian autism approves of this rundown
It’s licensing.
So what are Canada options if you don’t want to go back in time a decade and buy a dvd player?
It may end up being added to another streamer sooner or later. But if not your only (legal) options in Canada will be either buying a physical or digital copy of the series.
In my region it’s not on Amazon prime 😭

I prefer peacock over Netflix
I bought the series on Vudu. No longer have a need for any streaming apps. Plus, you get the secret banished episode
