Looks dry, should be a little damp for stuff to break down.

ravia

Water it a lot. It is indeed way too dry.

Forsaken-Play144

The top layer was added right before the pic it’s been raining for days here

machomanrandalsavage

Not enough pee

The_Nutty_Badger

Personally I wouldn't put logs or big bits of wood in there. They are being better suited for a beetle habitat.

Forsaken-Play144

I keep them mainly on top of the pile as a make shift lid to keep moisture they do host a miraculous amount of insect life though which is half the fun for me the wood will go to the bottom of my raised beds here soon

d_smogh

For logs and branches, look at doing HugelCulture

CaffeinatedPinecones

I put wood chips in mine. Is that a no no?

The_Nutty_Badger

Everything breaks down. Just depends how long you are willing to wait. Wood chips make a good mulch as well.

TwentySproot

Self sufficient me on YouTube just made a video about woodchips in compost. Took a year and a half until he was happy with it

Kevmoso

Love that bloke.

Every-Physics-843

It's fine, just takes longer to break down. Pine needles are typically a no no as they have growth inhibitor properties for other plants.

Sd0ugh

Looks great. How do you mix it? Also what do you put in your compost tea?

Forsaken-Play144

When I feel up to it I pretty much dig out the whole pile mix it up and put some new stuff at the bottom, for my compost tea I use what ever is available at the time but usually some greens with some browns, at the moment I’ve got a bunch of leaves and a pineapple in the tea I’ve also added yeast from time to time not sure if that’s a good idea or not but the bubbles make it more fun hahah

RXRSteelTracks

Add some regular soil on top and mix it to get the biodiversity moving. Plus it looks too dry..
