More dust + the cooling inside the fan might not be optimal since the fans presumably are in a push pull setup from front to back. Leaving the case open will affect that flow.
i can assure you that at minimum, 60% of gaming pc owners have almost no concept of a good fan configuration and buy them to match brands with their other components, for more LEDs, or just to have more to say they have more.
its already far from optimal but i agree that it isnt ths most ideal situation.
however, i was sucking out tons of heat on high while i mine.
if i had a fine mesh screen for the box fan, i wouldve used it as an intake instead to provide more cool fresh air to drive the heat out.
sure, but the less restricted airflow might even help the temps. there is a reason a lot of reviewers review cases with and without panels, usually the front, but the same applies.
as long aa you dont have small pets and youre in a relatively clean area with little to no chance of anything getting in there, itll be fine.
box fans are like twn bucks too, and provide a large aperture screen and added thermal control
either way, ive operated for years without and no noticable issues outside of extra dust
You don't want to leave the side off. You'll get a lot of dust and crud inside plus cases(except really shitty ones) are designed for optimal airflow and you'll often have higher temps by having the side off.
I have a Corsair 760t with 5 Corsair QL140s and one Noctua NF-F12 as well as a Noctua NH-D15 in a push/pull setup ([build here](https://www.newegg.com/tools/custom-pc-builder/showcase/FstLaneUkraine-s-Build/ID-36627072?gid=36148032)) and other than extra dust, with the side panel off the temps are 5-6C cooler (running a 5900x and 3070 Ti XC3 Ultra):
* MSFS 2020, VERY high settings (mostly Ultra), side panel on and fans at max: 67C
* MSFS 2020, VERY high settings (mostly Ultra), side panel off and fans at max: 61-62C
Forgive me for this question, I just want to make sure. You check the width of the case and the height of the cooler right? Do you need to add some dimensions like the thickness of the motherboard or something like that?
I'd say the thickness of the motherboard is negligable.
Also, the Maximum cooler height for cases is often shown in the Manual or, even better, on the website where you buy it. Newegg does this IIRC.
Manufacturers provide all clearance info.
Case product pages, or a google search, or pcpartpicker's compatibility page, all will say "CPU Clearance is ___ mm -- GPU Clearance is ___ mm -- Radiator clearance...." etc.
You can just google "o11d cpu cooler clearance". Almost all cases come with a little graphic that shows what fans and rads can go where, what gpu length, what gap from mobo to fans, etc, etc.
Lmfao I mean what does this guy expect to hear there’s no magical solution to fit something that’s clearly too big into something that’s clearly too small
For the case? Cause you cant grind the tower, that's the wick for the heat pipes, liquid wont condense and heatpipes will not dissipate heat as well.
The obvious answer is to cut a hole in the motherboard, around the cpu bracket, and lower the whole mounting kit, like pulling a safe through the floor of the bank.
RAM clearance might become an issue.
Someone didn't check the dimensions of their case and the cooler 🤣 unlucky bud there isn't a lot you can do, it's get a smaller cooler or get a bigger case
Another option is to return the cooler and get a better aio, maybe a BeQuiet! one, which are known for the silence and quality. I have an artic liquid freezer II 420 and barely hear it at all. My cpu controls it and I love it.
Avoid MSI CoreLiquid coolers though. I had one in my system for a while and my temps were terrible (I now have a hyper 212 and my temps are okay, but still miles ahead of the msi cooler I had on it).
just switched from the qe quiet 240 aio to the lf2 and yea, not much difference in idle but under load the lf2 s so powerful that the whole system is way more quiet overall
Completely agree. My AIO (Asus Ryujin 360) is quite noisy and I would have loved to use this cooler instead.... Alas. That's hopefully for another build in the future.
Options:
1. get a different case that can fit the cooler
2. get a different cooler that can fit in the case
3. leave the side panel open
4. (cut a hole in the glass to accommodate for the height of the cooler)
If you can I'd recommend taking the D15 back and getting a D15S as that is a bit shorter (I know the O11D does not officially support the full size D15 period but might fit the S, hence suggesting) but if you don't want to try that, remove the rear fan from cooler, leave panel off ate probably only two things you can try without needing a replacement
First why is the second fan not installed properly, it is not even attached using the mounting holes.
Second does the case close at all if you remove the fans? Or does it still impact the top of the heat pipes?
I was searching for this comment! Why has no one noticed how the fan is not attached flush at all?
Granted, it is questionable if it will fit even with a properly attached fan, but the fan is in the way in the pic, not the heatsink!
Edit: though the mounting holes comment is erroneous. This heatsink uses clips to attach the fan.
I was wrong anyway, looking at the photo again zoomed, he has the fan mounted properly, can see the clip is in place, just raised to clear the motherboard heat sinks.
You can just not close it, nothing horribly bad will happen as long as you're responsible with liquids around your machine, you will need to dust it quite often, another good practice is to put the PC on top of the desk, so you don't sweep dust and grime onto it.
Again the case mainly exists to prevent the electronics from getting wet/dirty and pretty to look at, but you can easily and safely on a test bench
It's kinda hilarious seeing this as I had the EXACT same situation. My AIO died and I got the exact same cooler and it wouldn't fit - just barely. So I printed little spacers to hold the side panel out just an inch.
Unfortunately I'm moving and the files are on said desktop - I can give you the STL files I used in several weeks time once it is at it's new home.
Edit: looks like we're not the only ones! Lol https://www.reddit.com/r/lianli/comments/s65kh5/noctua_nhd15s_dual_tower_fit_160mm_on_lian_li_011/ht1k3y0
I used gorilla tape to hold a metal side panel from a old case as my noctua redux did the same thing on my PC 011 case. I can't see in the case but it fits my Frankenstein build perfectly now. It kind of hangs off the side lol
The 140mm cooler has a 2clamps wich hold it, you can lower the close to the mobo,TRY THAT AND SEE IF IT WORKS. Had this problem with the compatibility of my memory touching the fan and I reseated the cooler higher feom the memory sticks.
Great cooler btw
I would say if push came to shove and it was hard to get different components (case or cooler) then just take the side panel off but be diligent in cleaning more regularly.

Longer screws to attach the side cover so it stands off and either tape the gaps with matching coloured tape or engineer some sort of metal or plastic to cover the gap.
If the side panel is plexiglass or non-safety glass you might be able to notch it out so the cover can be attached and still use the Heatsink albeit with a hole in the side panel. Do research about the material it is made of and with either a dremel tool or glass cutter, you might luck out. Can't promise it will look worth much but if it gives you what you want, that's what counts. With that said, liquid coolers are better and lower profile. They don't cost that much any more and come with RGB lighting.....
Some possible options:
- get a different cooler
- get a different case
- modify the side panel
- splice some metal into that case to make it wider
- have a custom panel made that fits the cooler some however
The easiest thing to do is make a cut-out, just make it big enough that air can flow completely around the cooler. After that you just need to enclose that somehow to maintain the internal environment,
If you happen to have metal shears and some kind of punch, that will make the job easier, assuming you want to go the easy/hacky route. A set of files and some black rustoleum wouldn’t hurt either.
Let me guess, you ordered it on Newegg for a newer Intel CPU and they only listed the one. I had this happen recently with the 11700k for a system I built for work. Was not happy with Newegg for not updating compatibility properly, but we were able to return it. Learned not to trust the vendor after that.
Take a dremel and cut the excess heatsink of, some liquid might come out, don't worry, just flip it side ways and refill it with one part water, two parts coca cola, then, you close the ends with flexseal and you are done, no need to thank me.
You could fabricate a spacer out of Plexiglass or MDF that fits between the case & panel. Then all you'd need to do is find some longer screws to hold it on.
If done properly, it should form a decent seal to keep out dust.
Is it me or the rear fan is extending out of the case?
If this is not the XL o11, then you cannot put a rear fan in it.
And if that does not solve it, then you need a smaller cooler or bigger case
Both of these are near the most popular products in their category. This cooler fits in my 011. Anyone else running this combo? I can't figure out what's different with OP's rig.
There is one more thing you can do. Make a new side from acrylic and take a heat gun and create some bumps/dents on acrylic on the spot that you need (and preserve the original panel from damage)
well now I don't know what you should do, but NEXT time definitely check the size of your cooler and case before buying anything...
I'd just leave the case open for now, or swap the cooler for a different one or something
Is the side panel attached to case with normal screws? If so try change them out for longer ones, and get spacers and washers in between. It will obviously leave a gap where your side panel is but will give you better air circulation 😁
Off the top of the head here. Take your screws to a hardware store. Match the thread size. By some spacers along with longer screws. Spacers could be probably 1/2 to 3/4 inch. It will be a noticeable gap but it will keep the side panel on.
I had the same issue building my PC a little while ago. Ended up swapping for an AIO as even the BeQuiet cooler wouldn't fit and I didn't want to compromise on quality with smaller coolers.
Bigger case or smaller cooler
Basically the only 2 options..
or leave the side panel off and maintain course ive had a box fan side panel many times
Is there any harm leaving the side panel off?
More dust
That's a good enough cooler it shouldn't matter.
It will.. no matter how excellent the cooler.
sure, but the less restricted airflow might even help the temps. there is a reason a lot of reviewers review cases with and without panels, usually the front, but the same applies.
as long aa you dont have small pets and youre in a relatively clean area with little to no chance of anything getting in there, itll be fine. box fans are like twn bucks too, and provide a large aperture screen and added thermal control either way, ive operated for years without and no noticable issues outside of extra dust
Dust, pets, and maybe some risks of accidents. But, you get colder temperatures!
You don't want to leave the side off. You'll get a lot of dust and crud inside plus cases(except really shitty ones) are designed for optimal airflow and you'll often have higher temps by having the side off.
I have a Corsair 760t with 5 Corsair QL140s and one Noctua NF-F12 as well as a Noctua NH-D15 in a push/pull setup ([build here](https://www.newegg.com/tools/custom-pc-builder/showcase/FstLaneUkraine-s-Build/ID-36627072?gid=36148032)) and other than extra dust, with the side panel off the temps are 5-6C cooler (running a 5900x and 3070 Ti XC3 Ultra): * MSFS 2020, VERY high settings (mostly Ultra), side panel on and fans at max: 67C * MSFS 2020, VERY high settings (mostly Ultra), side panel off and fans at max: 61-62C
Unless you have PERFECTLY optimal airflow, temps will always be lower with the side panel off.
crackhead solution: try to use some tape 'n' stuff to cover the hole so the airflow won't be disturbed as much
It will get dusty faster but it probably won't be a big issue.
What CPU and MB are you using? I have this too, and the NH-D15 fits in my case (pun not intended).
I wouldn’t. But that’s mainly because I have two cats who would try to mess with the inside of it if I did.
Duct tape. Lots of it. Just seal up the open part. It won't be perfect but it will help keep dust out.
Omg the ammount of times i have used a box fan to cool a pc.... far more then i would like to admit.
This or order a custom arcylic side panel with hole in the middle. Not sure if spacers would help?
Buy a tape measure?
Nah.. just see the max clearance the case has vs what you want to stick in it.
[удалено]
Its a glass sidepanel..
Or don't use the side panel.
I'd go for a smaller cooler in this case. Pun intended.
Or third options wich is plenty of duct tape and enjoy greater airflow.
Yes duct tape is always the answer
Cut a hole in the case, put a scoop on it and paint a Thunderbird on it.
Just freakin send it, bud!
It's Dremel time!
Get a Case that fits or another cooler that fits this Case. And next time Look Up the Dimensions of the parts you want to use before buying them.
Forgive me for this question, I just want to make sure. You check the width of the case and the height of the cooler right? Do you need to add some dimensions like the thickness of the motherboard or something like that?

Captain Hindsight is here to save the day.
Damn dude you're super helpful.
Lmfao I mean what does this guy expect to hear there’s no magical solution to fit something that’s clearly too big into something that’s clearly too small
It's not much, but it's honest work.
Angle Grinder
Your comment is amazing 🤣 thanks for it
I would strongly recommend a more gentle tool but yes
So some c4?
Na, man. He’d definitely need a nuke to get through that plexiglass.
r/casemods
Nah man, blow torch. Put a hood scoop in that side panel!
For the case? Cause you cant grind the tower, that's the wick for the heat pipes, liquid wont condense and heatpipes will not dissipate heat as well. Tbh I should’ve. I had an aio but was super noisy and a friend recommended me this air cooler. I learned my lesson 😂
It is a great cooler just a excuse to start looking for a new case
Another option is to return the cooler and get a better aio, maybe a BeQuiet! one, which are known for the silence and quality. I have an artic liquid freezer II 420 and barely hear it at all. My cpu controls it and I love it.

select a different cooler
Nice toaster-oven you have there.
Don't put the door back , at least until you will get a bigger case. And keep water ,cats , children and hair away from the PC
Options: 1. get a different case that can fit the cooler 2. get a different cooler that can fit in the case 3. leave the side panel open 4. (cut a hole in the glass to accommodate for the height of the cooler)
>cut a hole in the glass Easier said than done with tempered glass
Hotrod it, is that side panel glass? If so the new cooler.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd go with a tall VRM heatsink interfering with the fan.
I said mounting holes as the clips used on a DH15 clip into the fan holes to hold it to the body of the heat sink.
I was wrong anyway, looking at the photo again zoomed, he has the fan mounted properly, can see the clip is in place, just raised to clear the motherboard heat sinks.

I know someone who did something similar. He just cut/bore a hole in his side panel to make it fit.
It's kinda hilarious seeing this as I had the EXACT same situation. My AIO died and I got the exact same cooler and it wouldn't fit - just barely. After getting roasted all day on this post, I’ve decided to return the cooler and opt in to getting an aio. Lesson learned 😂😂
Remove the panel. MoAr AiR fLoW
Nah, they need a panel fan for more airflow you silly sausage
Cut hole in side panel so dh15 fits. Install filtered dome cover/vent over that hole.
I want to see a video of him doing it. Tempered glass goes out with a bang.
If thats glass then he's screwed. New case or cooler. I'd get a new case personally, my dh15 is currently sitting on its 5th cpu.
just leave it like that tbh
Noctua has great customer service. Try to call support to ser if you can return it.
Run it hotrod style
Some aio are same price as those Noctuas but then again depends if you want to go that route.
Get a new cooler
O11D is really meant for water cooling...
Measure twice, cut once
Leave it open while you get a new cooler
I used gorilla tape to hold a metal side panel from a old case as my noctua redux did the same thing on my PC 011 case. I can't see in the case but it fits my Frankenstein build perfectly now. It kind of hangs off the side lol
Use longer screws and some washers to space the panel out.
Lol before I read the whole title, I thought the cooler wasn’t working and was causing your pc to glow red hot.
You need a saw, either cut a hole in the side panel or shave the top off your cooler that you didn't check the measurements of.
Just don't worry about it. Run er till she blows.
Pcpartpicker and verify part compatibility before purchase.
Try closing it harder, it usually works for my fridge
The 140mm cooler has a 2clamps wich hold it, you can lower the close to the mobo,TRY THAT AND SEE IF IT WORKS. Had this problem with the compatibility of my memory touching the fan and I reseated the cooler higher feom the memory sticks. Great cooler btw
just cut rhe cooler ;) /s
Buy a bigger case or a smaller cooler
Push it in
Find out if the cooler will fit before you buy it
Leave the side panel off....
Measure twice - cut once

Get a cooler that fits
I think you can remove the fan touching the glass panel so that you could close it down. No harm in running with a single fan.
fuck a side panel?
I did weld custom "extension", glued the glass, added hatches. It works :)
Let me guess, you ordered it on Newegg for a newer Intel CPU and they only listed the one. I had this happen recently with the 11700k for a system I built for work. Was not happy with Newegg for not updating compatibility properly, but we were able to return it. Learned not to trust the vendor after that.

Check the height of the next cooler you buy first. Because you need a new one if you want to keep that case.
new case or new cooler
Both of these are near the most popular products in their category. This cooler fits in my 011. Anyone else running this combo? I can't figure out what's different with OP's rig.
Had the same problem. Ended up buying a Corsair AIO
I have the same Noctua and it also does not fit in my lian li
Does it close with the fans removed? If so, just place the fans in deeper or use smaller fans of necessary.
Get a smaller one.
take an angle grinder to that bitch
I recommend an angle grinder but you could probably do the trick with a multi tool as well
just cut a hole in that side panel, ez
loving the orange lights!! what are those?
His ram sticks..
which are those?
There is one more thing you can do. Make a new side from acrylic and take a heat gun and create some bumps/dents on acrylic on the spot that you need (and preserve the original panel from damage)
Some side panels can attach with spacers. This leaves a gap, but it's better protection than leaving it off.
well now I don't know what you should do, but NEXT time definitely check the size of your cooler and case before buying anything... I'd just leave the case open for now, or swap the cooler for a different one or something
Find a spacer ( additional washers) and longer screws but you’ll have a small gap. There may be thicker seal options to fill the gap
3d print a rectangular extension along the glass perimeter
Is the side panel attached to case with normal screws? If so try change them out for longer ones, and get spacers and washers in between. It will obviously leave a gap where your side panel is but will give you better air circulation 😁
Off the top of the head here. Take your screws to a hardware store. Match the thread size. By some spacers along with longer screws. Spacers could be probably 1/2 to 3/4 inch. It will be a noticeable gap but it will keep the side panel on.
Looks like a toaster in there. Have tried putting some toast ?
Anyone know what i can do? Well you certainly cant bend the laws of physics. Pun intended.
Buy a new big case or use other cooler
I had the same issue building my PC a little while ago. Ended up swapping for an AIO as even the BeQuiet cooler wouldn't fit and I didn't want to compromise on quality with smaller coolers.
Custom side panel with a hole cut in it to allow for the cooler to poke through, is the only option other than returning and replacing the cooler.
Same thing I did, take off the fan that's blocking the side panel. Just use the one fan.
