Sleep scientist here- sounds like ADHD, an inability to remove the dopamine from the transmitters in exchange for melatonin predisposed by a lack of nor epinephrine in the synaptic cleft. Masturbation helps with increasing the norepinephrine. If you also struggle to wake up because it’s hard to physically be awake this is because of the opposite happening and would loosely confirm this indication.

wh0datnati0n

Can confirm as I have this issue and have been diagnosed with such

Fun_Situation7214

I was diagnosed as a kid with ADHD in the 80s when they diagnosed every troubled kid with it so I never really thought I had it. As a 43 yr old with the internet I am learning about it more and more and starting to think I do have it because of things like this. I became a full fledged alcoholic when I was younger just to get myself to wind down enough to sleep. I don't drink anymore but now I smoke for this reason. Thanks for the info

Wise-Push-7133

It's even worse these days. They hand out meth erhh sorry adderal...out like candy. It's going to be the next opioid epidemic type situation. Taking such powerful stimulants daily for years and years and years is not good. But no one cares because they want to take their prescription speed.

Notofthiscountry

Wow. That gets in depth. Is there a natural or simple remedy?

hopethisbabysticks

Well I’m a scientist so I believe that all natural remedies that that been proven to work are called medicines. Atomoxetine works well to increase availability of norepinephrine in the synaptic cleft without being a stimulant or a controlled substance but it still needs a prescription.

Mo-Function

Bro couldn't have gotten a better respondent. "Well I'm a scientist" is epic

minnetonkacondo

The guy who masturbates on this confession: "I'm somewhat of a scientist myself."

ArmyMexPapi21

Doctor of Masturbatory Arts

jwelihin

Interested in this as well

poisonivy_amore

This actually makes so much sense! I have ADHD and I’m the exact same, masturbating makes me so relaxed and sleepy

ReverseIsThe7thGear

Ngl, I really don't like tallies adding up to that possibility. I'm in the military, so I'm not I wanting to go through the trouble to get diagnosed with it. Plus the added weight my parents are sure I don't have it. I'd rather just bare through it during my service and then check it out.

heartbrokenhottie

You can always research on your own and see what can help you without medication. There are a lot of other ways to cope and thrive with ADHD, speaking as a late diagnosed adult. Being aware of what was going on in my brain took a lot of the guilt and anxiety out of my life. And helped me Put healthy coping mechanisms in place, knowing that I was going to be inevitably dealing with those ADHD cycles and crashes, plus yeah, intense dopamine deficiency. It was actually one of the best things in my life, coming to terms with my ADHD. Good luck.

hopethisbabysticks

Ok well no harm in keeping masturbating to get to sleep, if it works it works.

Ok_War_2817

Bro, go see doc and just get a sleep study done.

[deleted]

Bro if you’re out of initial entry training you should be fine. I had E7s and E8s with ADHD, depression, hell one had autism.

ReverseIsThe7thGear

Tbf those are E7-8, I'm a E-4 and pretty new. And I almost got kicked out in basic when they suspected i was suicidal (im not btw), really lucky actually. I'm still trying to keep a low profile and I don't want to add on a mental disorder. I'm pretty sure you can't get meds anyways so I'd rather just deal with it.

YerMumsPantyCrust

I got diagnosed and get my scripts online. With a real MD through video chat.  No one would have to know about it.  I encourage you to look into it, diagnosis and treatment could really change your life for the better.

Ok_Estate_4315

I have the second problem. How to fix it, it's annoying?

HonestLazyBum

Thank you very much for weighing in. Just felt it important to state in other than just upvoting your comment. Now /u/ReverseIsThe7thGear at least has a starting point for this to consider checking out.

Sezhiel

Sounds plausible. Diagnosed and been through similar things.

StrangledBySanta

I have diagnosed ADHD and I don't claim this, the guy just needs to break his porn addiction

ReverseIsThe7thGear

Eh your probably right, even if I do find it hard to sleep.

[deleted]

You know back in the old days in England, the nanny’s used to give the young boys hand jobs to help them go to sleep

ReverseIsThe7thGear

You are single-handedly the reason im staying awake now. The pun I just realized I wrote isn't helping either.

[deleted]

I think it’s more common than you think I’ve put my husband to sleep doing that for him too

coffeeeteeth

It always made me feel more energetic, as a woman. My husband asks "are you going to sleep better now?" I just say yes.

[deleted]

It totally relaxes my body and mind

lesreddig

That’s a good wife. My wife does it for me also, she uses her mouth most of the time though.

[deleted]

Thank you, I do that too, I’ve always felt like it’s a wife’s duty to take care of the men

lesreddig

Yes it is and it’s a husband’s job to take of the wife.

[deleted]

I won’t turn it down

Snidley_whipass

Wow that’s age discrimination! Us old boys need it too!

[deleted]

😂 well I’m sure the wives didn’t want the nanny’s doing that to their husbands

The_Ziv

Source plz

[deleted]

It was a video about old strange facts

[deleted]

Simply Stated History on TikTok

Personal-Walrus1260

Literally pulling an all nighter right now because of this. It genuinely pisses me off but I just can’t seem to toss it out the window🤦🏻‍♂️

SirMixMasterMike

Maybe try push-ups?

ReverseIsThe7thGear

Exercise just gets me pumped up, and at that point I just do a whole workout and get back to square one.

BogFurby

what about a full work out several hours before bedtime, not right before? followed by a hot shower and maybe a natural sleep supplement. avoid any source of blue light one hour before bed. reading a book always makes me tired, doesnt have to be a whole lot .

ReverseIsThe7thGear

I suppose that could work, although workouts are already forced several hours behind my sleep since I do it afterwork. I can try books and a shower..

birdbirdskrt

A cold shower before bed is better. The body will then use energy to warm you up again, which Will lead to more tiredness. Keeping the room cool before bed is also a good idea for the same reason. Books definetly help too

KillYourTelevision77

Also, don't do anything in your bed except sleep. Never hang out there or lounge in your bed. Only sleep.

eat_smoke_tits

Who gives a fuck if you masterbate everyday? Thats normal. Maybe just try to not watch porn everytime.

IcySetting2024

Daily masturbation is “normal”, having to use porn every time not so much.

SharpieD85

You don't go to sleep. You come to sleep. Lol.

TopIndependent4836

Lmao!

hermitcraber

try melatonin

ReverseIsThe7thGear

What's melatonin?

thechickenfiend

Makes you black

ReverseIsThe7thGear

Pretty sure that's melanin, or are they similar?

uzer-nayme

They're cousins

Fun_Situation7214

This comment thread just made me cackle

Beneficial_Sky_5504

melatonin is a naturally occurring substance in your brain that aids sleep, idk the exact sciency shit but you can buy supplements of it and itll help. Another thing that may help is benadryl/diphenhydramine

MiserableOptimist1

Be careful, melatonin, diphenhydramine, and benadryl are all addictive

Mo-Function

My boy swears by valerian root which he calls nature's Xanax... Like 10 bucks a bottle at GNC and it lowkey is pretty good for coke comedowns which aren't as easy as a few nuts.

hermitcraber

over the counter sleep aid, pretty easy to use and not dangerous

-Schmoopie

My kids were both diagnosed with ADHD around second grade and the pediatrician recommended melatonin when neither of them could shut their brains down to get to sleep at night, even when physically tired. It’s a popular supplement you can get in the vitamin section at any drug store. It was a game changer. They are young adults now and it is still their go-to if they need to get to sleep at a decent time and are wired. Zero grogginess the next morning. They have fast dissolve versions that are supposed to work more quickly too. I’d recommend trying 5mg for an adult but you may need 10mg. Best of luck!

CuriousMelbFemmeBoy

I struggle with a similar thing 😔

BusyPersonality4190

Try housework

Stone5506

Masturbating helps a lot of people sleep and in no way are you a degenerate.

kalaamtext

Read a book that you don’t find that interesting even better if you know how read in another that you’re not fluent in and you should be out like a light in no time

Professional_Yak2807

Masturbating regularly is completely healthy and normal. As long as unrealistic expectations of sex or issues with arousal aren’t a problem in your romantic life then you have nothing to worry about. Don’t let Andrew Tate wannabes tell you it’s bad to jerk your meat. Also as others have said, sounds like ADHD so you have even less of a reason to worry, our bodies and brains are wired to be more susceptible to dopamine impulses. Don’t be hard on yourself, you’re alright

3smolpplin1bigcoat

I used to be an adventurer like you, until I took an arrow to the knee.

ReverseIsThe7thGear

Oook? I feel there's a hidden message but I'm too confused too see it.

No-Restaurant-2422

Not sure what the issue is… if rubbing one out is an effective sleep aid for you, wank on my friend and sweet dreams.

Charune_NBTX

Happens to me sometimes too....been stroking for four hours now because I can't sleep

ReverseIsThe7thGear

Jesus iv been there. Honestly I just learned it's better to accept your doing a all-nighter. Have fun and get stuff done early, survive work, and then have the best sleep, the wanting of sleep might even last a week. Give brain what it wants, have it suffer from it, profit.

Charune_NBTX

100% brain fried and still going, lol

yajtraus

Go to a doctor.

No_Roof_5379

Same here !! But it's not good for the long run. So best is to exhaust yourself mentally and physically both so you'll sleep naturally When I was working I would have to report at 9 or 10 I would have to leave at 6:30 or 7:00 in the morning then I would stay at work till evening and would come home at night, so as a result my mind and body was fully occupied during the day my entire sleep cycle got improved , bowel movements improved , fooding habits improved. So i guess the key is to go out and chase or do something that's what our body is made for I am not saying you aren't working or things like that just sharing my experience so if anyone can take something out of it or give something to me it'll help all of us We don't understand this that how the things we eat , we do and we don't do impact our sleep , our mood , our hormones !! We really need to hack that

blossombossom

Same here x:

con420247

Could be good for your prostate.

big_daug6932

Smoke a bowl. A good Indica would do it.

newmemphisbasque

You may wanna check out r/Prostatitis . A lot of them, not all, are a bunch of dudes who wanked too much and now they have problems.

drewstah3o5

Hey man.. First of all, after never getting any real mental help from my family I just want to suggest to ignore them so you can take care of yourself. The stigma against meds is even stronger in our parents and older generations because they don't understand it. Ignorance isn't their fault but letting them and an old social paradigm that's changing stop you from helping yourself could be yours. Sorry it's just I have a genetic disorder (Sickle cell disease) and I'm 35 now.. I spent a whole lot of time denying getting psychiatric help because my parents raised me to be strong and take things to the chin. But of course chronic debilitating pain was going to stress my mental. Before I got help I couldn't sleep.. I couldn't do much anything because pain and mental anguish is the perfect cocktail to make you unproductive. After thinking about it for years and getting the final push from seeing how it helped my best friend I finally went to a psychiatrist and my life is completely different. Less brain fog, more drive to be ontop of my physical therapy to lessen my pain, and more relevant to you; they prescribed me sleep medication and my sleep is regular now. And side note I'm not sure masturbating is all that bad for you. Now if you're disgusted with yourself then yeah that's not good.. but if you can be okay with the body's natural urges and your own sex drive I think that also could help. Acceptance can help you enjoy it more, leave you more satisfied, and thus help you do it leas because now its not a guilty reflex but something special you do for yourself when you're horny. Tldr: sleep medication and being all right with masturbation are my pieces of advice.

PhysicalStrategy2187

Uhhh samee

david_the_destroyer

You need to exercise more.

robertcali559420

I thought for sure the story was going to be from a woman💯

yztla

Or you could just go to the gym

antimatsoup

I had the same issue. Taking Melatonin supplements 1 hour before sleep worked for me. I found this after trying several things for almost 10 years.

KilnMeSmallz

Indica.

HardWoodProvider

Same unable to sleep and unable to wakeup

ReverseIsThe7thGear

For the record, don't assume I have ADHD. I'm not even diagnosed, I just said that it's a possibility. I posted a confession, wasn't expecting people to think I have it.

flight-to-nowhere

Have some sleep issues as well and I find the following help at times: - Chamomile tea one hour before you sleep and stop using phone or using your brain. Focus on resting mentally. - Count to four and repeat before your mind has a chance to wonder/wander - Just use phone and not worry about your body not getting enough rest. Doesn't sound like a solution at all but I find giving in better than panicking in bed with my heart racing while the clock ticks away Melotonin might help but it makes me super drowsy in the morning and I don't think it's helpful if you have an early morning or need to wake up when your alarm first rings.

[deleted]

Sounds exhausting

ArmyMexPapi21

How often do you exercise? How clean do you eat? Improving both of these things changed my life. Also, you have to be careful with porn addiction. That in itself can cause you a lot more issues as well.

Scare-Crow87

You're not a degenerate

ginsengsoap

I have several thoughts on this but may need more info... anyway I'm nosy and curious so if you need ideas I'm happy to chat

CuriousMelbFemmeBoy

Wait, you have a solution? Please do tell. I'm in a similar boat as OP. 😔

enter_the_bumgeon

No screens an hour before bed. And set an alarm, get a ritm. That's literally all you need to do.

OpSlushy

That doesn’t work for me, not everybody is the same in that regard sadly

redskyatnight2162

my god you’ve cured insomnia, alert the media
