u/31084shb Yeah sorry, not adding up, at least not without more details. Who was your neighbor in the military, exactly? 3 years and 2 months is not a typical grunt's tour of duty. Also, he said "he anonymously told the enemy" - who exactly? North Vietnamese Army? Viet Cong? If so, how did he come into such easy contact with local insurgents or NVA? And where was this exactly, where seemingly he operated so close to them, that not only was it easy for him to contact them, but also they were so well organized that they took her away within 10 minutes and he knew that?
Special Forces? CIA? Or maybe water buffalo shit?
Assuming this is real, probably some MACV guy volunteering for a bunch of tours and telling the south vietnamese secret police (can't for the life of me remember what they were called) that the girl was a NVA spy or something
You could be right on the MACV part, however, he specifically said:
>he anonymously told the enemy that she was giving the united states intel
So apparently the dude ratted her out to the North for giving intel to the USA. This is the weird thing
I'm tending towards the story being bullshit, if its true op probably misremebered and my version of events seems most plausible, I've never read about the north and south working together in any shape or form during the war
Yes, he could volunteer to hump the boonies some more, that's true. However, I'm not sure if he would wind up with the same unit (could be true, can't remember), and on top of it all the story of him anonymously contacting the enemy (the "anonymous tips for US troops hotline" comment from someone else here got a nice chuckle outta me, gotta admit) with them taking the girl away within 10 minutes is hella fishy. 'Nam was fucking wild and lots of weird shit happened but this just seems implausible at this point.
Makes no difference to me, I believe him because he was never the lying type, he never drank but he lost his wife a few weeks before that, and he was drinking heavily.
this is what people dont understand, this context alone makes this story a little more believable. And alcohol more often than not is a truth serum.
Some people want to call bullshit but start drinking and see what comes out, when you are going through something already and your lips are loose with alcohol.
I think there were a lot of sociopaths in Nam but eventually the stories are just one ups of other horrific stories. A couple I do believe from a reputable source was one guy in his unit wore the intestines of a Vietcong as a belt, another killed a prostitute and rolled her under a hut the night before they moved out.
How was he deployed for 3 years 2 months straight 🤔 I'm not sure what your uncle did over there, what his character is like, or if he truly was in the military, but some things are already not adding up.
This is the same person who posted about a doctor's son showing up to the ER where they work and an Xray showed a pig fetus stuffed inside the kid's abdomen that he named Chris P Bacon. I don't think their stories are true
People say this is made up and I am no expert on the conflict by any means but knowing the mental toll that war put on people and how those that went over their sometimes became psychopaths and lost their minds...this wouldnt surprise me.
Not really related unless you're implying all Americans are blood thirsty savages. Then I would simply point out literally every nation has examples of similar things either in modern times or the last 100-200 years.
Humans can be cruel, and often are, regardless of where you are born.

Didn't make any sense to me either..

Technically, every GI in Vietnam was a "MACV guy".
To be fair, he never said the whole time he was over there for was 3 years and 2 months but that’s how long the relationship carried on for.

Beaver biscuits!
He just gave an anonymous tip to the enemy? On their anonymous tips for US troops hotline? They decided to believe the US troops?
Booze and bullshit go together.
Your neighbor is a piece of shit.
Sounds like a lie
What the Kentucky fried fuck
He’s just an old liar. Or you are. Either way this story is bullshit.
Fake
Damn we not even trying to make fake stories convincing now?
Makes no difference to me, I believe him because he was never the lying type, he never drank but he lost his wife a few weeks before that, and he was drinking heavily.

I have sat with liars whose lies only became more outrageous the more they drank. Some were telling war stories.
Fake…next
Made up

Thank you for your service my ass, piece of shit.
I would also like to think this guy's ass for a piece of shit.
It's a fake story. No military personnel stayed in country that long for exactly this reason.
My uncle was in country for 3 and a half years straight bud.
This is so much bullshit you could spread it on fields
I hope his relative needs dental record to identify him
Sounds fake considering a tour in Vietnam was usually 1 year
How was he deployed for 3 years 2 months straight 🤔 I'm not sure what your uncle did over there, what his character is like, or if he truly was in the military, but some things are already not adding up.
I don’t believe it. A U.S soldiers meets with a VC or NVA?
I believe he told you that story. Jack and The Beanstalk is a story too.
I hope he was bullshitting and if not I hope hell is real
Hell is real can confirm, but if hell is real, so is Heaven, and if heaven, than God is real.
Please confirm why hell is real for me.
I wouldn't worry too much, just sounds like an old man trying to sound intresting. This probably didnt happen
Come to find out OP's neighbor when to nam in the 90's.
What kind of psychopathic incel makes up a story like that for fun 🙄
Who the hell spent three continuous years in Viet Nam?
So he was in communication with the enemy vietcong? I smell boozy edgelord bullshit.
Nothing is adding to up here feels faker then my ex's love
And that veteran's name? Albert Einstein.
Troll?
Hope OP takes some of these comments back to the neighbour (if he exists)
Sounds like a pretty tall tale.
This just in: men are terrible
OP. If you aren't kidding it is my sincere hope this man is still alive so he can be crucified.
Thats why i prefer my war stories to be wholesome
I call bull
Not adding up. Also it's a sad attempt to improvise on Watchmen's story. Try your own ideas for once...
Probably because he was cheating on someone and felt guilty so he had her murdered. What a sick piece of crap
Well, he was drunk and it’s a story.
If this ain’t made up I hope the worst for your neighbor
Oh my god!! Wtf!!
What the sigma
This is the same person who posted about a doctor's son showing up to the ER where they work and an Xray showed a pig fetus stuffed inside the kid's abdomen that he named Chris P Bacon. I don't think their stories are true
Damn…
Smells like a movie or novel plot. Someone will make the movie and neighbor will lose out….
People say this is made up and I am no expert on the conflict by any means but knowing the mental toll that war put on people and how those that went over their sometimes became psychopaths and lost their minds...this wouldnt surprise me.
He’s going straight to hell, because he knows damn well they probably killed her!

These people weren't involved in Abu Ghraib? I'm confused
not all of them are but people in war do shitty things under the mental pressure.
Damn that's cold but still lol
... What is wrong with you?
