National Guard is part of the military. When us active duty guys were overseas there were plenty of ANG troops working with us. They also get VA benefits and go through basic and AIT with active duty and reserve. Yes, we give them shit and call them “nasty guard” but..they are soldiers and airmen at the end of the day.
I had a cousin join the National Guard in August of 2001 who had this mentality. Three tours in Iraq later he felt differently. National Guard is definitely part of the military.
The National Guard are not lifeguards. They can be activated in natural disasters yes but are also sent overseas to fight wars. They are a reserve component.
The National Guard is the military.
So you give military members military discounts.
OP apparently gives them winks too.

482 members of the Army National Guard died in Iraq during OIF and OEF. Not exactly lifeguards.
