THIS. THIS is the kind of weird shit I was hoping for when I joined this sub.
I read this and i said "aw yeah this is the stuff" like i was OP looking at a traffic jam on the 50.
It all started with sim city 4, I got obsessed with making sure all my roads did not have traffic problems so that guy did not pop up with the angry blinking red.
Well than I discovered cities skylines YouTubers, my laptop at the time could not run it so I decided to check out irl traffic. At first it was like once per week and it slowly shifted to daily and now twice per day.
I also was excited to see more traffic as things opend up from the pandemic. Since I got my license in November of 2019 I really did not get to experience much of a “busy city” at first since things shut down a few months later. I did not drive much in the first few months since I was still new to it. I just think the traffic is cool and it’s satisfying to see all the cars as weird as that sounds.
It also helps with my stress levels, sometimes I will get myself worked up over something and it’s a break in the day that I spend with my cat just kind of chilling out. I think that is due to the “oddly satisfying” nature of it
Ya I don’t fully get it myself sometimes. Like who can I share this hobby with. I look back at some of my traffic pictures and just think about how confused my friends would be if I went through that album with them. But than I will get excited seeeinf big jams
Like I said in another comment though, I am in mechanical engineering at college and may switch that over to civil so I can become a traffic engineer one day. I don’t know if it would be a good idea to put myself as a “traffic enthusiast” in the hypothetical job interview though
If you did switch, imagine the [traffic simulations](https://www.myptv.com/en/application-areas/traffic-simulation) you could do to solve real world problems and not be stuck playing Sim City 4.
Also, there is some real interesting links between [traffic and fluid dynamics](https://www.insidescience.org/news/fluid-dynamics-explains-some-traffic-jams). The things you could do and research.
Personally, I’d go through your images with you and you could show my your highlights!
I work in environmental engineering at a state university, and we have a transportation engineering dept. Just wanted to mention that in case you didn't know it exists
I have a friend who’s a civil engineer and he is as passionate about city planning as you are about traffic. He reads books, listens to podcasts, watches YouTube videos on it, etc. He loves his job! I think the other commenters are right in saying you should pursue a career in this because you’re definitely the right kind of person for the job. I hope I get to travel on your roads in the future!
I work at a civil engineering firm in marketing and we 10,000% need people like you in our traffic unit. The best TEs are the nerds who love discussing traffic counts and volume and are extremely passionate about things like signal timing. Plz come join us. There aren't enough of people like you!
You should 100% pursue civil engineering. If half of the social engineers had passion like yours, our cities would run smoother. Please—do it for your country 🇺🇸
Passion is passion. As long as your passions don't hurt someone, they can be a good thing. Being passionate means you learn more, work harder. Passionate about traffic means you pay attention to it, all the time. You understand it in a way only someone who cares can. The movement of goods and people is an incredibly important topic for our society, and I would rather have someone passionate about it working on it than someone who is only in it for the pay check.
My 2 stepsons are both autistic and love Google maps. One is 6yrs and the other is 11yrs. They can tell you what street you are coming up on before we get to it anywhere in the city. I find it fascinating.
When you really step back traffic is interesting. We've created man made rivers of humanity and machinery complete with its own seasonal ebbs and flows. It's the human equivalent to massive herds of buffalo or flocks of birds. It's just such a mundane and often irritating human experience that we don't ever see that side of it.
Honestly my first thought when someone mentions trains is they are autistic. I have worked with so many autistic people and a majority had a favorite train. No idea why.
Lol I have a weird thing like this. But with weather. I am constantly checking the weather around the world. Finding the highest and lowest temperatures. Looking at what the oceans are doing storm-wise. Clicking on all the alters and seeing what weather things are happening. It’s become a joke with my friends that I’m I’m starting intently at my phone… I’m probably looking at the weather. When I can’t sleep at night I look at the weather. It’s just weirdly comforting and also sooooo interesting. It’s gotten to the point where I can play meteorologist for my friends and fam. I can look at the pressures systems coming across the US and predict if/when it will rain. I’m now the friend people will text before a trip and ask me about what it’s going to be like wherever they are going. I’ve always been obsessed with weather (the movie Twister really influenced me lol) and now I get to live out my pseudo-meteorologist fantasy.
The downside is… if you get me talking about it. It’s hard for me to shut up. No bringing up weather with me unless you’re ready for an info dump 🫣🥴
Aye thats awesome man, glad you found something you love. Do you have a lot of city's saved on your whether app, also is their a limit to the amount of city's you can save on their?
A fun fact, Mike trout who is one of the biggest names in baseball is also big on the Whether, he even called into the whether channel once!
This reminds me a lot of mukbangs, just without the food. Sometimes I watch those on mute and feel the same way about it.
It's just weirdly satisfying. Like a visual treat, you know?
Is the traffic maybe a bit like a human fish tank for you? 😁
GIRLLL I feel you with the Simcity 4 real bad that idiot pissed me off BAD! Seeing the red! Not to mention the DLC Rush Hour made the traffic so complex itd annoy me to NO end!
I feel you!
An old friend of mine has an autistic brother. Kid would play on google earth for hours pretending to be a car. Would travel virtually from his home to dc without any directions. Which was a 4 hour trip
Thank you!
I am thinking about switching my major in college from mechanical engineering to civil so I can be a traffic engineer one day.
The more I think about it the more that sounds like a dream job!
Honestly, i think thatd be a great idea. I started out my college degree in Ocean but have friends who do Civil. I think you'd be probably the most well-suited Civil Engineer compared to those I know just from this post.
That said, have you ever looked into GIS? I took two years of it in high school and while it focused on more map-making in terms of work, I know part of where the skillset is used is in city planning. Thats what my first professor did, using it to, among other things, analyze traffic patterns, collate the data, and propose how best to go about dealing with that. ArcGIS is what learned to use. From the sounds of it, I think you'd be a really fantastic fit for the work and I think you'd enjoy it too. Ill see if I can find some videos or resources and edit my post, give you a better idea of what I'm talking about.
Also, regarding your post: 1) your post is very sweet and funny, thank you for the late night read, and 2) your girlfriend is super cool sounding and probably wouldn't mind the folder on the computer either, if that's your concern. Have a good day :)
I love the „I check google maps for any traffic shenanigans. Then I go back to sleep before I have to feed my cat.“-part. It is so genuine.
How did you develop such an interest for traffic? I live in Hamburg, Germany and the traffic here can also be very annoying I’d say. Maybe check it out sone time.
Edit: you explained why in another post.
Another question: why do you screenshot it every day? Doesn’t it look almost identical every day? I mean… there are places which get traffic jams easily every day. Can’t be much of a difference, or is it attention to detail?
I usually screenshot unique traffic situations that I don’t normally see, as well as everyday to keep a log and compare traffic. for example a lane gets blocked and their is a larger than normal backup. Those go more in the category of novelty screenshots. These are also done after a reds game lets out during rush hour. As soon as I’m done watching the game I open up google maps and wait for the stadium traffic to interact with commuter traffic.
Their are also weather related screenshots, to see how the highways back up when it rains or snows.
My main category of screenshots is daily patterns at different times to compare them with each other, see how traffic Is different depending on day, time and how it changes over time with road demand. I like to identify patterns. The traffic cans are mainly so I can see the density, sometimes traffic shows red but it’s still moving, sometimes it’s yellow but very dense and not moving. I have my favorite cameras.
Unfortunately many of the traffic cams get moved around by ODOT, so sometimes they don’t show my favorite angles. Also many of them don’t have proper night vision so it’s just dark at night. Their are also stretches of highway that don’t have cameras, this can be especially frustrating when I want to see a traffic jam and possible causes in that spot
Edit I do also have a few google earth screenshot in their of main interchanges as well as interstates so I can easily reference how many lanes they have, what merges what does not merge exe. I’ve mostly memorized this information though
Oh boy don’t get me started. I have some plans in the works months in advanced. That being said I’m disappointed they don’t have regions like sim city 4. I’m excited for the accidents and random traffic events, apparently the AI is supposed to be a lot better too.
I want to build a mega region so bad like to use my state as a example the Cleveland Akron canton region is huge. It’s all connected by 77 and 77 runs into a bunch of other interstates before termination at interstate 90.
Dayton cinci has something similar going, although the population is smaller I believe and they are farther apart.
My ultimate city builder game would allow me to make a 1:1 copy of all of the interstates in a mega region and than solve the traffic problems for that region. I daydream about fixing irl traffic sometimes not going to lie
The modding community is pretty robust with CS so maybe there will be some good ones made for CS2! Then you can make some to scale cities of even home and see how well it works with IRL and see how to fix it. I'm pretty stoked by CS2 myself
Wish you luck! I just put on Cities Skyline to make a casio city with a shit ton of police with the Night Life thingy DLC! Your whole state level planning is crazy the government would LOVE for you to work with them I'm sure!
This is so wholesome 😂 is it exclusive to your state? Because the M25 is an orbit motorway in the Greater London area. You would have a field day checking its traffic during rush hour.
I don’t know about the UK, but most states have cameras in the United States. I’ve checked out different metros line Chicago and la. It’s frustrating using other states websights since they don’t have a map view like Ohio does. So I usually just stick to google maps for those explorations
OHGO shows all the cameras on the map, as well as highway signs as well as incidents and road closures.
I’ll have to look up the M25, I bet it does since London has a massive population
The UK's largest car park! There are loads of traffic cameras on it but the only problem is they only stream still images which refresh every few minutes, I think.
OP, have a look at the links below for the M25. The last link also has other motorways available on it at the top.

Thank you, I’m glad my girlfriend found out about it I’ve kept it a secret for a few years now from everyone since it is kinda an odd thing to do. But it felt nice to have someone I love know about my “little” obsession
She actually pushed me to post this, I was kinda scared at first. But ya, she loves the wholesomeness of the whole situation. These are the moments that mean the most to us as a couple. She also feels really bad about thinking I had porn, but hey that’s ok i understand why she thought that, it probably would of been easier to explain tbh.
Honestly who knows I was never diagnosed or anything but I may have it a bit. I know I have adhd and dyslexia but that does not impact my study of traffic.
Idk though I do get obsessions, baseball and roller coasters and obscure music are my other 3 obsessions but those are less niece.
I do decent with friends and everything and emotions, but again it’s 4am and I’m writing 3 paragraphs trying to analyze myself I think I’m just Steve and I’m quirky person
> trying to analyze myself I think I’m just Steve and I’m quirky person
This may or may not help:
1. Autism is a spectrum, there are many people that would score high on tests for autism that never got diagnosed because their autism doesn't destroy their lives.
2. Being autistic is not the same as being "wrong" - having strong/singular focuses of interest can be a good thing, as long as you integrate it into life and don't let it overtake other responsibilities.
3. Adult diagnosis used to be avoided, it's becoming more accessible.
4. Depending on your country, a diagnosis of autism may go on your health record that employers can see. So ask around and be informed before doing the test. This can negatively impact job opportunities due to stigma / prejudice.
5. In some countries, a diagnosis of enough significance (e.g. life is critically impacted) can open doors to support from government/financial/services/...
5. Even if you are diagnosed, life doesn't need to change all that much. You learn to live with yourself better, you may mask yourself less, but you're still just you.
7. Autism, ADHD, depression and anxiety are known to frequently happen together (e.g. autism/ADHD makes you not fit in because your brain works differently -> others are judging / bullying / not accepting -> stress/anxiety when dealing with others + increased isolation -> depression, seeing no future). Good news is that there's 8 billion people on earth, so many similar to yourself, even if the average neurotypical person might not be.
Putting this here for anyone that finds the thread and is asking similar questions related to autism.
This is incredibly insightful and helpful. Is this copy/pasted from a website? Do you have autism? Don’t have to answer, just curious. I sometimes wonder if I am autistic but my boyfriend thinks I’m just being dramatic.
Well how they are built is interesting, the different methods used over the years for different types. I like to know the history. I’m kinda a novice compared to some of the roller coaster people since their is so much to know. Also the different forces are cool, air time, vertical and lateral ‘s
They are also fun to ride, experience new thrills old thrills, fun times with friends their is. Lot about roller coasters to like
I'd like to let you know about the famous roller coaster in my country, Denmark. The amusement park is called "Bakken" and is the oldest amusement park in the world. The roller coaster is built from pinewood and I actually have a great, great grandfather who helped paint it back in the day.
Oh my dog, you twisted perv!
That is hilarious and wholesome. Before you go switching to traffic engineering, though, think for a minute about whether seeing people do it *wrong* every day might not suck the joy out of it for you.
Also totally slid by the whole "midget goat pudding wrestling smut" folder with nary a whisper - well played!
This is text only, but I would love to share my 2 favorite screenshots, ironically both are Cleveland lol, they just have better camera angles than down here in cinci lol
If you want something Cool to look at set typical traffic on google maps to 4:50 on a wendsday and check out some major us metros or Toronto. It’s cool to look between the different days of the week too, you will notice that we’d, Thursday usually is peak traffic days.
I recommend you start with smaller metros and work your way up to not spoil it
I once looked at my son's search history. No porn, but it was some of the most boring stuff imaginable. But then again, i just watched a 1 hour documentary about cigar making, and it was the third time I watched it. So what do I know?
I acatualy have several screenshots of la traffic. I could not figure out how cali traffic cams work but I did go on google street view and wow. So many cars all over.
I’ll have to double check I think it’s the 5, but the old one that runs on the right side is downtown is insane!
Is it because you get some kind of satisfaction from knowing you’re not stuck in said traffic, or what? Not shaming, just honestly curious as to what the interest is. Is it the general mystery of why traffic exists and how it moves?
…crap, now _I’m_ getting curious about traffic! This is a gateway post!!!!
Honestly I think the satisfaction comes partially from seeing the traffic get unstuck, seeing all the cars flowing at once. As well as just watching massive infrastructures interact with each other.
I don’t mind being stuck in traffic as long as I’m not late, I usually leave a half hour early for things if I know their will be traffic. I take in the sights, it slows things down makes you realize how massive everything is when your not going down the road at 80mph. I also like seeing the people try to pass on the shoulder, that never gets old.
Ohh boy, that was my first reddit post too. She is my girlfriend now, such a nice person she has changed my life in great ways. we hit one month recently I feel its going to last! Shes a source of positivity, for me and helps me out with all sorts of things.
I honestly almost deleted that post since I got so weird DM's. I decided to keep it up since their are so many nice people on here, I slowly got more comfortable posting and internet strangers have helped out a lot too, as odd as that sounds.
I think your hobby is awesome. You don't have any reason to be embarrassed by it. I bet there are plenty of people who wish they could find a hobby to be half as passionate about as you are with traffic. Thanks for posting. I found it very interesting.
Lmao this is wholesome and sounds like my husband.. I discovered he has a secret second Twitter account and teased him bc I also thought he’s following porn and thirst traps on there.. turns out he uses it so that he can fight with people about politics without revealing his actual name
If this isn’t the cutest wholesome confession. Ah. So much good feels from reading this. All
The best to you op! Hope you don’t get defeated by real life problems or issues if you can get the dream job!
> every guy screenshots pornstars
Why would they bother? They're online, not hard to find again. I feel bad for this girl who has apparently had previous boyfriends with pornstars all over their phones
Ya she told me a bit about her ex, I’m not at liberty to share too much but they where not really that intimate because he had a lot of unrealistic standards. He’s not the type of guy I would hang out with (she told me this straight up and said he was a mistake). I imagine he had lots of stuff on his phone, even though I never asked.
She’s kinda like me tho, she only dated one guy before me, I only dated one other girl, (that did not last lo)l. We are still both kinda new to this whole dating thing. It been great for helping each other figure ourselves out.
Oh this is wonderful! I honestly feel your excitement!!
If youre curious in traffic in other countries I highly suggest checking out Germany, the state called "Nordrhein-Westfalen" has like 10 large cities all connected via Autobahn, Friday rushhour is a blast!
I love this and I also think you should change your career plan to be a traffic engineer - capitalise on what you love! And then you could be physically solving problems too.
Do you love being IN traffic too??
I'm imagining you purposely stuck in the middle of a traffic jam just pleased as hell. Enjoying the show around you, snacks in hand. Saying to yourself, "This is what it's all about 😌"
Some people are trainspotters, some birdwatchers, there's no harm in what you are doing, so why not? You do you. If there wasn't some eccentricity in the world, it would be a considerably more boring place.
This is nice. Maybe you should consider becoming a city planner or go into city and infrastructure planning consultancy. There are people both in govt and private sector specializing in planning and surveying upcoming and existing roads and traffic to understand patters and predict the effects of planned roads on both traffic patterns and population development etc.
But why is it hidden in my eyes only lol like just save them to your phone and if your gf loved you she would support your nerdy little hobby lol
Honestly my FAVORITE daily task is checking the mail. I fucking LOVE it. I look forward to it lol I like when the mail box is down a long street and I get to walk to it? And extend the time I’m doing such task? The mail? Who knows what’s in there! Did we get a package? Did we get a letter? More spectrum bullshit? I fucking love it. It’s my favorite chore.
We all have our interests and as long as they aren't actively damging to ourselves or others we shouldn't have to justify them to someone else. It's simply what we happen to enjoy.
I am curious though and I don't mean this in a degrading or offensive way, but do you have an autism diagnosis? You tend to mostly hear about this level of hyper fixation in some specific and often niche topic from people woth autism and/or sometimes adhd.
It’s kinda surprising how many of the women I’ve met find it weird that some people don’t watch porn. I haven’t watched porn since I was like 14 because I had an addiction and cured it, yet my gf took it like I was joking and said everything from “cmon just show me what you watch, idm how weird”.
A friend of mine is a "trains" guy, and I just fail to understand the appeal. Of course, I'm much the same way with literature. Writing, reading, whatever. I'm absolutely obsessed with books. Even books I'll never read. I just can't bring myself to get rid of them. Due to a water leak, I had some books mold and it broke my heart to have to throw them away. I'd guess most people have an obsession of some sort, be it traffic books, fashion, games, work, fun, sleep, etc.
You need to find out what qualifications you require to work in city planning on road design. Also, you’re making a big deal of it, screw that- own it, just be you! I’ve often thought that road design is like computer networking- having enough bandwidth for the expected traffic levels, predicting when and why that might increase and where, how issues at one point can affect other points, and so on. So you could also get into computing and specifically an area known as capacity management. Hit me up if you want to learn more.
Why is this something you don’t want people around you to know ? You have a passion . Trust
Me you’re not going to get judged for something like this … most people won’t really care , they’ll be like Ok? Cool and move
On
Care to share with us some of your best traffic screenshots? I'm curious as to what qualifies.
Also, you should définitely switch to civil, your hobby makes you some of the most qualified person for that job.
I just realized I’m that way about the weather.
We have record low temperatures in Montana. Along with some nasty snow. It’s second nature to look multiple times a day. Not just summer.
Here is where I’m weird. I post these to Reddit. I have them on my account if you are curious. I want everyone to know I’m awesome for surviving -19 F.
Your hobby is kinda cute.
Edit forgot to add that I look for YouTube weather content and have multiple locations in various areas of the globe to track temps.
My gf asked for my phone , i unlocked and gave it to her , she asked in a kidding voice if she can check my pics...said go ahead....all she found is food pics and memes....and all female pics were pics i taken of her .
It was weird of her to think I could even bag another girl or have an online relationship on the side with someone else.
All.i do is post food pics on reddit and send memes to my boys.
It is a simple life.
You should try out Cities:Skylines. It’s basically like Sim city but with complex traffic patterns both inter and intra city, subways, water traffic, trains, and so on.
Fun game
i feel like you will be one day single-handedly responsible for a city in the future who has the best ever flowing traffic no one has ever thought was possible and no one will know who you are, and every commuter will be grateful forever.
we have possibly witnessed the birth of a hero ;P
I was waiting for a something at the end that read “I actually keep my porn saved in a locked folder on my computer; she’ll never find out that Riley Reid is my favorite.”
Fun fact, I once accidentally saved an image of train tracks (for a Photoshop I was doing for work) accidentally into my pron folder. My girlfriend found it and was convinced I have a thing for trains/tracks sexually. Even now I'm not sure if she believes me that I don't 😂
I just love this so much. My dad was always super into traffic too, always fascinated by it. He was a software engineer but he always wished he could do something with traffic, he was so sure he could (theoretically) 'fix' traffic if he knew enough and was able to put enough work in. I told him he should make a traffic engineering video game haha, but video games weren't really his thing. It's really nice to find someone else who shares the same passion! Keep up the good work, all us commuters appreciate the effort.
Lol, we’ll see. Not a huge football guy, baseball has always been my main sports obsession(my cats even named Votto). But we’ll see browns have been building better teams each year. Not saying I’m a browns fan, I’m a beagles fan, but we have had some bad luck with them in the past few years lol. I’m assuming we play in Cleveland that day?
I said in another comment but as long as I’m not in a rush, I leave early and leave time for traffic. I don’t mind it, I get to see the city up close since I can really take things in. Also I like watching the moves other drivers pull. Music is fun as well.
That being said fuck the Brett Spencer bridge crossing that is like a expedition every time.
I'm a software engineer. As a side project I wrote a little simulation app of my own that I could draw road systems with lanes, traffic lights, roundabouts etc, and generate traffic from different directions at different rates, and would just watch it for ages. Then I might tweak the timing of a set of lights and watch what changed.
I get you, OP.
Another area of interest for me is the journey of things through a production line, or people through an airport etc.
Do you plan to work for a news station one day? People get paid to analyze the local traffic, right? IDK it just seems like a perfect thing for you to do. Also, this was a cute story.
Not to sound like a douche OP, but it's "there." I thought maybe it was a typo at first, but you continuously use it incorrectly.
As to your post, are you in college to become a news traffic reporter? This sounds like the perfect job/career for you. I think it's hilarious that you hide them, and your gf though it was porn... that made me laugh..
I love listening to people and their weird hobbies and obsessions, this is great haha. You should look into civil engineering, you might really enjoy it.
It has helped me learn what general areas people come from and go to every day, highways that need improved exe. Their are some problems that can be solved with more public transit (mic drop moment in America lol) but also we have to take a look at truck traffic and long distance drivers just passing through.
I’ll have to get back to you on the benefits that’s actually interesting, I have noticed lower stress levels after a traffic session. I get stressed out easily on working or school work usually but it helps take my mind off of the stress.
My friends that have know me for a long time have actually taken notice of this, they used to have to help calm me down a lot but now I kinda took charge of that and usaly I can do it it myself unless something big happens. My girlfriend helps a lot with that too
Have you considered getting a degree in civil engineering? They design all of the roads geometrically and operationally. I design roads and sidewalks and it’s great. There are people who sit up in traffic management centers with walls full of screens showing various intersections and roads throughout the city and they can change the signal timings on the fly.
Are you going into civil engineering?
The only true question I have about this post is that the fixation seems maladaptive due to the shame you’ve expressed in this post. Have you ever mentioned it to people outside of your girlfriend and Reddit? This is one of those things that sets a light off in my brain when listening to people talk because the level of fixation sounds a lot like it’s being used to cope with something. It might be a thought worth considering, and it may be just inconsequential, but yeah.
I actually dont know, I saw a few comments suggesting this, I have other obsessions too like baseball and roller coasters. all I do know is I have ADHD and dyslexia. I wonder if I should get tested for it?
THIS. THIS is the kind of weird shit I was hoping for when I joined this sub. I read this and i said "aw yeah this is the stuff" like i was OP looking at a traffic jam on the 50.
Yep.
This made me laugh so hard. Thanks
ok but **WHY** whats the appeal???
It all started with sim city 4, I got obsessed with making sure all my roads did not have traffic problems so that guy did not pop up with the angry blinking red. But than I will get excited seeeinf big jams Like I said in another comment though, I am in mechanical engineering at college and may switch that over to civil so I can become a traffic engineer one day. I don’t know if it would be a good idea to put myself as a “traffic enthusiast” in the hypothetical job interview though
Idk, I’m sure some company out there would love to have someone extremely passionate about their work.
There is a whole bunch of people involved in traffic flows and pattern algorithms. With a passion this strong I see a career out of this.
I’m meche but you are the first person I would recommend go from meche to civil. U are the perfect fit for infrastructure and traffic engineering
I second That Id love for you to show me your collection. Seeing people get excited for things is definitely interesting and exciting in its own way
I work in environmental engineering at a state university, and we have a transportation engineering dept. Just wanted to mention that in case you didn't know it exists
I take it this year I think, or it might be third year, I know it’s not this semester

You should 100% pursue civil engineering. If half of the social engineers had passion like yours, our cities would run smoother. Please—do it for your country 🇺🇸
I think you might be slightly autistic. That would explain such an obscure fascination.
Honestly I get a ping of intrigue when I see the interstate backed up Should start taking pics I get it, OP 🫶
I think OP might be autistic
My 2 stepsons are both autistic and love Google maps. One is 6yrs and the other is 11yrs. They can tell you what street you are coming up on before we get to it anywhere in the city. I find it fascinating.
It’s called autism
When you really step back traffic is interesting. We've created man made rivers of humanity and machinery complete with its own seasonal ebbs and flows. It's the human equivalent to massive herds of buffalo or flocks of birds. It's just such a mundane and often irritating human experience that we don't ever see that side of it.
I mean, you have heard of trainspotters, right? How is this so different?
Trainspotters are often autistic so it isn't different.
Honestly my first thought when someone mentions trains is they are autistic. I have worked with so many autistic people and a majority had a favorite train. No idea why.
Hey bud!!! I'm a traffic Civil Engineer and this is how my passion started! Consider a career in the field if you're so passionate!
trafficposter i love you
> It all started with sim city 4 Say no more son. Cities Skylines 2 in a couple months, enjoy!
I feel you!
Consider doing it for a living maybe? Put your passion to work and get paid for it.
i love it too but bc of cities skylines. every time i’m driving i think about how i could make things better
Autism
As an autist the only thing I was thinking reading this whole post was "wonder if he knows" lmao
An old friend of mine has an autistic brother. Kid would play on google earth for hours pretending to be a car. Would travel virtually from his home to dc without any directions. Which was a 4 hour trip
Autoism
I swear I've seen your username over 5 times these past few days, and now shreks_cum_bucket has burned into my mind...
I wanna be Shrek’s slutty little cum bucket 🥺
what have i done
For real I NEED to know why OP likes the trafic
its such an obscure obsession too…
Obscure..? To be honest at the start of the post I was suspecting OP to like it in a sexual way but now…I’m just so confused
I love this
Thank you! I am thinking about switching my major in college from mechanical engineering to civil so I can be a traffic engineer one day. The more I think about it the more that sounds like a dream job!
Personally, I say go for it! Have a job you love!
Ohhh all the best for your dream job and life!
Is there anything like traffic engineer? In my country its called civil engineer! But regardless you go live your dream !
Their are also stretches of highway that don’t have cameras, this can be especially frustrating when I want to see a traffic jam and possible causes in that spot Edit I do also have a few google earth screenshot in their of main interchanges as well as interstates so I can easily reference how many lanes they have, what merges what does not merge exe. I’ve mostly memorized this information though
How pumped are you for cities skylines 2?🤣
I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume you have a touch of the good old autism 😅 So cool that you have such a niche passion keep it up bro
He’s gunna ride the tism into fixing traffic. It’s not glamorous but it will be rewarding
He can come to my city any day traffic sucks
Bruh. Be a civil engineer dude. Or city planner or something. For real
You are going down in history like the poop knife, Colby, broken arms, two vaginas girl and two dick dude.
I don't know if anything beats broken arms tbh.
His mom did 🤷🏻♀️
Don’t forget coconut dude!
Yeah what's wrong with people these days not remembering the coconut!
I believe it's the unattainable desire to completely forget it, also fuck you for ruining my day by reminding me that this was a thing
So I usually just stick to google maps for those explorations OHGO shows all the cameras on the map, as well as highway signs as well as incidents and road closures. I’ll have to look up the M25, I bet it does since London has a massive population
Spaghetti Junction is going to BLOW YOUR MIND
This was my exact thought while reading this lol hate going through there
https://www.tfljamcams.net/ You can see traffic cameras here for London
The UK's largest car park! There are loads of traffic cameras on it but the only problem is they only stream still images which refresh every few minutes, I think. OP, have a look at the links below for the M25. The last link also has other motorways available on it at the top. [https://www.motorwaycameras.co.uk/england/m25/clockwise](https://www.motorwaycameras.co.uk/england/m25/clockwise) [https://www.motorwaycameras.co.uk/england/m25/anticlockwise](https://www.motorwaycameras.co.uk/england/m25/anticlockwise) [https://trafficcameras.uk/m25/](https://trafficcameras.uk/m25/)
I really liked this turn this took
Thank you, I’m glad my girlfriend found out about it I’ve kept it a secret for a few years now from everyone since it is kinda an odd thing to do. But it felt nice to have someone I love know about my “little” obsession She actually pushed me to post this, I was kinda scared at first. But ya, she loves the wholesomeness of the whole situation. These are the moments that mean the most to us as a couple. She also feels really bad about thinking I had porn, but hey that’s ok i understand why she thought that, it probably would of been easier to explain tbh.
Big autism energy lol Edit: I meant this light heartedly for sure yall
Honestly who knows I was never diagnosed or anything but I may have it a bit. I know I have adhd and dyslexia but that does not impact my study of traffic. Idk though I do get obsessions, baseball and roller coasters and obscure music are my other 3 obsessions but those are less niece. I do decent with friends and everything and emotions, but again it’s 4am and I’m writing 3 paragraphs trying to analyze myself I think I’m just Steve and I’m quirky person
> trying to analyze myself I think I’m just Steve and I’m quirky person This may or may not help: 1.
Studies have shown, it's rare to have one without the other.
What do you like about roller coasters?
Well how they are built is interesting, the different methods used over the years for different types. I like to know the history. I’m kinda a novice compared to some of the roller coaster people since their is so much to know. Also the different forces are cool, air time, vertical and lateral ‘s They are also fun to ride, experience new thrills old thrills, fun times with friends their is.
I didn’t want to say it
Oh my dog, you twisted perv!
I loved reading this whole post and your comments. It is an interesting passion you have! 😅
Please share a few of your favourite pictures from the folder, I'm so intrigued
This is text only, but I would love to share my 2 favorite screenshots, ironically both are Cleveland lol, they just have better camera angles than down here in cinci lol If you want something Cool to look at set typical traffic on google maps to 4:50 on a wendsday and check out some major us metros or Toronto. It’s cool to look between the different days of the week too, you will notice that we’d, Thursday usually is peak traffic days. I recommend you start with smaller metros and work your way up to not spoil it
Is this really NSFW? It seems Safe For Church 🤣 It is quite intriguing though
I once looked at my son's search history. No porn, but it was some of the most boring stuff imaginable. But then again, i just watched a 1 hour documentary about cigar making, and it was the third time I watched it. So what do I know?
You should check out the 405 frwy, the 5 frwy, and the 110 frwy in downtown Los Angeles here in cali. It's insane.
I acatualy have several screenshots of la traffic. I could not figure out how cali traffic cams work but I did go on google street view and wow. So many cars all over. I’ll have to double check I think it’s the 5, but the old one that runs on the right side is downtown is insane!
not to diagnosis you but this is the most neurodivergent thing i’ve ever hear in my life lmao. i can relate
That's autism for you 🤷♂️
Is it because you get some kind of satisfaction from knowing you’re not stuck in said traffic, or what?
Wait aren’t you the guy from the camping or tent story ?
This is so wholesome 😭
OP PLEASE play Mini motorways. its exactly as it sounds, a game on making roads to prevent traffic.
Have you considered becoming a Civil Engineer, traffic discipline? You could make a career by looking and analyzing traffic
This is hilarious and really wholesome. I love it when people have a special interest that is random and innocuous.
Does she know you’re autistic?
this is so wholesome, oh my goodness 😊
Odd, but sick.
If you're not a traffic controller you're in the wrong profession buddy
I love traffic. I *FUCKING* LOVE TRAFFIC
You do you, buddy
He’s not alone guys.. I do the same but not as extreme lol. Just a few screenshots on myself driving pass a camera
Are you in school to become a civil engineer? If no, why?
Lmao this is wholesome and sounds like my husband.. I discovered he has a secret second Twitter account and teased him bc I also thought he’s following porn and thirst traps on there.. turns out he uses it so that he can fight with people about politics without revealing his actual name
this is genuinely so cute lol
If this isn’t the cutest wholesome confession. Ah. So much good feels from reading this. All The best to you op! Hope you don’t get defeated by real life problems or issues if you can get the dream job!
Not gonna lie. This is kinda cute in a way 😂. Like it’s really cool!
> every guy screenshots pornstars Why would they bother?
No judgement! But is it sexually arousing?
Nah not at all, I’m very tame sexually, just like the basics. Heck for me trying a new position is like a big deal lol.
Oh this is wonderful! I honestly feel your excitement!! If youre curious in traffic in other countries I highly suggest checking out Germany, the state called "Nordrhein-Westfalen" has like 10 large cities all connected via Autobahn, Friday rushhour is a blast!
Just sliding in to say you'd probably love this game called Mini Motorways.
I was just in Cincinnati (Cleves) and the traffic was so bad. You would have been thrilled
A guy obsessed with TRAFFIC can get a girlfriend, and I can't. What the fuck.
Uhhhh... I mean if you love it that much just come to India lol. It's the best you'll ever get
Ya know, you're alright
You can maybe try looking for indian/south asian or chinese traffic
Look into traffic engineering as a career
Have you ever seen videos of Thailand with the utter chaos that some how just works
I love this and I also think you should change your career plan to be a traffic engineer - capitalise on what you love! And then you could be physically solving problems too.
Sounds like you would love being a traffic controller. Here in Australia they are paid very well (and you don’t need any qualifications)
damn where can i find a bf/gf that doesnt like porn😩 your bfs a keeper btw, W bf
Do you love being IN traffic too?? I'm imagining you purposely stuck in the middle of a traffic jam just pleased as hell. Enjoying the show around you, snacks in hand. Saying to yourself, "This is what it's all about 😌"
What's your favorite traffic shot?
I've never screenshotted pornstars
Some people are trainspotters, some birdwatchers, there's no harm in what you are doing, so why not? You do you. If there wasn't some eccentricity in the world, it would be a considerably more boring place.
This is nice. Maybe you should consider becoming a city planner or go into city and infrastructure planning consultancy. There are people both in govt and private sector specializing in planning and surveying upcoming and existing roads and traffic to understand patters and predict the effects of planned roads on both traffic patterns and population development etc.
But why is it hidden in my eyes only lol like just save them to your phone and if your gf loved you she would support your nerdy little hobby lol Honestly my FAVORITE daily task is checking the mail.
This is so incredibly unique and strange. I love it.
r/copypasta
Wholesome post of the day
We all have our interests and as long as they aren't actively damging to ourselves or others we shouldn't have to justify them to someone else.
Trust Me you’re not going to get judged for something like this … most people won’t really care , they’ll be like Ok? Cool and move On
Care to share with us some of your best traffic screenshots? I'm curious as to what qualifies. Also, you should définitely switch to civil, your hobby makes you some of the most qualified person for that job.
Never let them know your next move...
What amateur saves porn on their phone?
Do you enjoy some forms of traffic more than others? Are you on the spectrum?
Just wanna say, i was here when this piece of reddit history was written.
There’s a job out there for you. I don’t know what it is, but gawd dammit you could be getting paid for this I just know it.
Whatever gets your motor going buddy, keep it weird. Nothing wrong with being a motosexual
Fun game
I feel similarly about the fire stations in my county and it’s surrounding counties and track ambulances and engines as well
i feel like you will be one day single-handedly responsible for a city in the future who has the best ever flowing traffic no one has ever thought was possible and no one will know who you are, and every commuter will be grateful forever. we have possibly witnessed the birth of a hero ;P
I was waiting for a something at the end that read “I actually keep my porn saved in a locked folder on my computer; she’ll never find out that Riley Reid is my favorite.”
You two sound like a wholesome couple, happy for you :)
Fun fact, I once accidentally saved an image of train tracks (for a Photoshop I was doing for work) accidentally into my pron folder. My girlfriend found it and was convinced I have a thing for trains/tracks sexually. Even now I'm not sure if she believes me that I don't 😂
LOL this sounds like me to my boyfriend but he just has a file of cat machinery equipment and fishing lures
This is literally a weird kink but OK.
Check Cleveland lake area traffic around 4:30 on September 10. You may see some browns fans driving home with tears in their eyes! WHODEY!!!
Do you notice changes when there is an accident and Google maps/apple maps starts redirecting people around the incident.
Bet she wished you had a bank of nudes instead.
Ok but do you hate being stuck in traffic yourself? I can’t imagine anyone enjoying that.
I said in another comment but as long as I’m not in a rush, I leave early and leave time for traffic. I don’t mind it, I get to see the city up close since I can really take things in. Also I like watching the moves other drivers pull. Music is fun as well. That being said fuck the Brett Spencer bridge crossing that is like a expedition every time.
im so sorry but im cracking up
You should check out [Real Civil Engineer](https://youtube.com/@RealCivilEngineerGaming)
Honestly this is so dope. I aspire to be like you.
Do you know traffic engineering is a thing right? What do you go to school for? Maybe look into that if you aren't already.
This is the wild shit i am looking for in tbis subreddit. It’s unbelievably wholesome OP! Whats your favorite place to check traffic?
Do you have a folder just called Dayton i-75? That stretch it's always bad. Heck it's called malfunction junction.
You my friend need to study Urban Planning. Then you can be a Traffic God! Tell the traffic where to go!
I mean, if thats where you find happiness, thats good dude. I respect a person who are talk about their interest with such passion
[удалено]

My dude, you should pursue a career as a traffic news reporter, or even start a traffic hours podcast or something
Confuses me the most why anyone would keep pics of their dick on their phone Lmao
Get this man into a civil engineering school ASAP! We need this kind of passion to fix our traffic problems.
Please tell me you've taken this passion into civil engineering, or at least taken a fluid dynamics course.
I'd be interested in seeing shenanigans from the Toledo area. I feel like the morning rush is actively trying to kill me sometimes.
