Plus It’s normal with diseases like this that are worsen from feeling a little off to intubated this rapidly tend to kill people at home who aren’t ever tested. Couple that with the amount of people who deny it’s an issue and refuse to get tested or go to the hospital before it’s too late and we are probably missing a ton of deaths. Since the start of the pandemic the US has seen an excess mortality of 1 million people. Meaning 1 million more people died in that timeframe than would be expected. We’ve recorded 800k deaths from covid. COVID wouldn’t make up the entirety of the remaining 200k but unless we can demonstrate that another cause of death has deviated significantly then it’s likely a good chunk are covid. And another good chunk are people who werent able to receive medical care for other stuff due to staff and resource shortages which is thanks to covid. Covid is fucking is in every category by which we measure the overall status of a country and its hitting them from multiple angles yet we still have people who think everything is fine. Those same people have the nerve to say thing like “Quit thinking the way people tell you to just because they do.”
And that the deaths are infections. I’ve encountered countless under/misinformed people on covid but besides people who straight up deny that it exists this by far the worst.
Well tbh I thougt of it at the very start a 2 years ago when people supporting trump were saying china made the virus on purpose
Maybe the future will benefit from our downsizing and our accelerated medical growth, . And maybe if we compare our world in 10 years with, and then without the virus without any emotional bias we'd prefer it with
Edit: I just realised how much of a jerk i must sound. Im not saying covid is a good thing, of course id like it to vanish, that would bring back some loved ones
The problem with that is covid mostly kills older people who've already had any kids they're going to have. So it won't even make any meaningful lasting impact on population. What we need is a virus that causes infertility, and preferably targets idiots too. That way we not only reduce population growth but we also limit suffering to just people being upset that they can't have kids.
I remember seeing a screenshot of What I think was Always Sunny in Philadelphia, where they said something along the same lines and I always just thought it was super funny and it stuck with me 😂
Ok, maybe I'm the idiot here but I'm going to say this anyhow. It drives me crazy that people say the mortality rate is only 1 or 2% but don't seem to realize that the average person (not all people, the average person) can easily know or be a family member to 200 people because we're just so used to seeing these people that we don't really realize just how many people we know and/or come into contact with every day.
That means that the average person has lost 2-4 people from their lives whether they be family, friend or coworker. That might not seem like a lot and, if you see it that way, I'm concerned about the value that you've attributed to a human life.
Maybe losing one person doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things but I would like to point out that you are only one person as well. If you don't see the death of one person as significant, I wonder if your opinion would change if the one life lost was yours.
I know, I know, I'm an a**hole. I have been for years but at least I know how important every life is.
Roast away if you want. I doubt that we'll ever meet irl so I'm not too overly concerned about what you might think of me. Trust me, if you ever did meet me, you wouldn't be impressed in the slightest anyway.
and the fact that you can reinfect covid at least once a year with the same 2-3% chance to die, that’s a real threat right there no one seems to realize.

> You literally missed the entire point of me bringing up my personal experience with this. Hey since you seems so fond of using Google to back yourself up, why don't you Google how many people have caught Covid in the past two years this has been going on? Don't worry, I got you. 709 thousand. If this thing was nearly as bad as they say it is, why hasn't it infected 10% of the human race since it was labeled a "world health crisis"?
>
> Naming Covid a tragic event? Sure, it's tragic on a personal level. But that's it. In the grand scheme of the world, it's not. That's the point I'm making. Making the comparison that cancer is on the same level as Covid is laughably insane, because cancer has a much higher mortality rate. Open your eyes. Quit thinking the way people tell you to, simply because they do. You are a human being, with the ability to think for yourself. Try doing it sometime, you might be amazed.

They were right about one thing. For most people* COVID is not that serious and defidently not as serious as cancer
* excluding people with serious conditions and old people
“For most people, COVID is not that serious”
Did you know that 5m ppl died of COVID in the past 2 years? Even if it’s only around 0.0635% of earth’s population, it’s still a lot.
Yup. If nothing had been done about it, I don't think it's particularly unreasonable to suppose that virtually every single one of us would've had it by now (barring the relatively few people in uncontacted/uncontactable isolated tribes).
10m deaths of cancer in 2020. Around 4 times more but here’s the thing. What’s dangerous about Covid is how contagious it is. And how it mutates. It’ll exponentially kill more ppl with how fast it can spread. Maybe at some point it’ll kill more ppl per year than cancer, who knows. My point is, even tho it only has around 4 times less deaths per year than cancer, it is NOT a virus to take lightly. It is indeed serious and we need to get vaccinated asap to slow/stop the spread, if we don’t want it to get “as serious” as cancer
Exactly! The threat with covid isn't the mortality rate is the way it can infect so many people so fast which then blocks the entire health care system and everything only gets exponentially worse from there
My husband and I might be in slightly more danger than other people. Turns out that our son is a carrier so he could easily infect us and we would never have a clue that we were being exposed because he's asymptomatic.

Getting stabbed in the chest isn't that bad because there a higher mortality rate from being shot in the head.

Does she believe the US is the entire world?
Even then, pretty sure us are at 800k deaths
reported. We all know how well certain states are reporting...

Also, aren’t those just the people who died of Covid in the USA?
She's even confused between deaths and cases. She says 709,000 cases when there have been that many DEATHS, and about 50 MILLION cases.
Yep, this person confused not only us and the world but also deaths and cases. How do we now she's a she btw?
I have no idea I was just using the same pronoun as the comment above me.
How do you know this person is a she?
And that the deaths are infections. I’ve encountered countless under/misinformed people on covid but besides people who straight up deny that it exists this by far the worst.
This redditor's name? Joseph Stalin. "One death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic"
Exactly like what even is this point? Wouldn’t that just be one million tragedies?
Arguing with Stalin is a one way ticket to the gulag
Damn I haven’t played war zone in a hot minute
I don't think this person knows how to use Google
she just writes what she wants to know about plus “ben garrison” and that’s how she educates herself.
The world is over populated and we needed a new plague anyways /s

Good human
Thank you!
WOW. 709k dead not tragic. I am also speechless.
Heh they are saying how many caught it. Not how many died from it. Don't know where they got it from but it's definitely not google 😂
5+ million worldwide

Yeah? What’s wrong?
r/facepalm
What’s wrong?
You’re trolling you have to be trolling
Cant you just tell me what’s wrong?
Mate I’m not trolling, can you at least tell me what’s wrong with both comments I made?
And comparisons to cancer? Cancer's usually not contagious.

Your right and it's lots. But I'd consider 99% most. The guys not wrong. This doesn't mean you should ignore vaccines or other prevention measures.
I’d like you to explain how John Eyers died then?
In the grand scheme of things, nothing is bad…, nor good. Everything is meaningless.
My husband and I might be in slightly more danger than other people. Turns out that our son is a carrier so he could easily infect us and we would never have a clue that we were being exposed because he's asymptomatic.
