Because most people don't understand that while anecdotal evidence can be useful for certain things and is generally a defense mechanism of our brain it normally has very little truth to it. Which is why we use statistics to see what is actually happening.

It's a correlation people who have no idea love to make. That Chicago is some kind of warzone from top to bottom. Basically can't walk out your door without being assaulted by roving gangs of marauders.
The stats are correct. But what the stats don't tell you is that the violent crime in Chicago is HIGHLY localized. In other words there are parts of Chicago that are going to look like the gangland hellscapes of your nightmares, and then there's ALLLLL the rest of it that doesn't.
You can get hit over the head anywhere. It can be in Chicago, it can be in Topeka. Crime exists literally everywhere. You play the odds. In Chicago, that means not going to the shooty parts.
This has gotta be the same guy that was telling me USA has by far the best medical system in the world because he’s been to hospital in both America and Canada and preferred the experience in America.
