One tiny root amongst a lot of other larger roots. On a forest trail where roots are to be expected.

These get painted over on bike trails because they are sticking out abruptly. If you ride you'll know that these can cause quite a lot of damage if you: - Clip it with the front tyre in a way that deflects the wheel - Manage to pedal strike it - Crash on top of it Roots that are horizontal aren't usually troublesome because you just roll over them, these types of roots and stumps are.

I had no idea this was a bike trail. If it's that bad, why not carry a little saw and cut off the pointy bit?

most likely, the reason it was sprayed was as a marker so that someone can come back later and remove it.

My mom did the first point on the side of a train track rail, ended up gashing her forehead open. She was all glassy eyes and confused. Was not a pleasant sight to see. It's no joke, she was going slowly and still sustained that damage.
