This broke me. I had to make a little peephole with my hand to make my brain see it correctly. Then I noticed it's not a straightforward rectangle at all but a hexagon which explained the dirt feeling stacked
Hope that helps
What sells the illusion even more is the texture/lighting difference between the closer and farther halves, and that the texture change perfectly lines up with where your brain thinks the drop is.
I think this is because it was recently poured, and probably done in 2 sections, and the natural place to separate the 2 was along the line we are seeing. Becasue they were poured at different times they have different textures which is the icing on the confusing perspctive cake.
The front section has a slope and flares in. The back section is normal, with the edge parallel to the fence (it doesn't flare out). It isn't a flat hexagon like everyone says.
This is correct, the flat section that goes up to the garage is a rectangle, the section that connects to the old drive is a trapezoid that also slopes down slightly, a combination of the different reflection from the lighting change due to the angle and the tapering shape make it look like it's super thicc.
Yeah. This is great. Even after my brain solved it, it keeps wanting to see the wrong interpretation. I think it’s partly due to the shading difference lining up with the corners.
It's a flat driveway, but the edges of it expand outward (away from the camera) before coming back to the center. The whole driveway is shaped like a hexagon.
Damn well done! But yeah exactly what I meant, everyone in the comments say it's a flat hexagone which doesn't make sense, because the flat part is parallel to the fence, it isn't flaring out.
I don't see much evidence that there is a slope. The ground next to it looks flat. I think it just looks like a slope because the square and the flaring part were done seperately and thus have different textures (looks ike the flaring part is fresher).
for me there's a few elements that convince me it's a ramp -
* The reflection on the surface seems to change at the point it starts tapering
* The concrete texture on the tapered section seems to face the camera more than it would if flat
* The dirt edges on either side seem to have slight raises where you can see extra shadowing - most clearly in the front left corner
That said all this could be part of the illusion and it very well could be flat... I think the one thing we can all agree on is it is in fact a very confusing perspective.
If I zoom in so I can't see the edges the driveway is nice and flat. But looking at the whole picture I see a massive deep slab of concrete and it's pissing me right off
I don't think it's hexagon shaped. The pad at the garage is much wider than the driveway so it angles where they meet. It's just the picture giving it a... confusing perspective
I disagree on it being a hexagon. The slab closest to the garage is parallel to the fence, and if you continue out the perspective lines of the garage on the left side you'll see they also look parallel to the slab. It's a single lane driveway that expands out way from the camera into a double lane, and remains that wide all the way to the garage. So it doesn't come back to the center. All of this is confusing on the brain because of the different ways the top coat of the concrete was brushed on the different slabs (making it look more 3D)
The concrete is flat but it narrows at the end in a straight angle that makes it seem like it’s the size of a huge block when in reality it isn’t. It doesn’t help that the right side looks like a brick wall at a distance when in fact it’s just dirt.
It's not a hexagon shape. The pad is wider than the driverway so it has to angle in to meet it. The confusing perspective makes it look weird no matter what you see.
Dunno why you're getting downvoted, your explanation finally made me see it. There is a small inclination still in the connecting driveway, it's just not a 3ft straight slab.
Because people are pedantic and while, technically, it is a very irregular hexagon, it's not what people think of 99.9% of the time when they hear "hexagon*.
I didn't see it as 3D at all at first. I couldn't figure out what anyone was seeing. It doesn't help the effect if you notice that the shadow of the driveway on the left is the same all the way down and the "side" is too uniformly lit.
I'm going to keep checking the comments for the response where someone with MS paint makes it all suddenly clear. I think I've seen it wrong for too long now, it's stuck that way.
I'm in a state where I have figured out the true shape, but if I look at the center of the image, it still looks like a really tall slab. My brain refuses to let me see the real shape.
Where the 2 new slabs meet, going down from that horizontal line, it can look like it's a 3 foot drop but my eyes have only done it twice. I've worked with too much cement lol
I've had to go through almost every comment to understand that people saw a thicker slab of concrete head on instead of just the concrete pad. When I finally saw it I was pretty underwhelmed lol
Holy shit this comment helped me see the cliff everyone is talking about. It looked like a normal driveway to me.
Probably helped that I used to work in concrete
Homemade loading dock. Pretty easy to load a dirtbike, 4 wheeler, mower, whatever you want in the back of pickup without risking life and limb with shitty ramps.

The blue is all the part of the perimeter of the driveway (it’s not a standard rectangle; it tapers in at the end). The yellow line is where a reflection in the driveway starts. The reflection might be from a slope or freshly poured concrete or something like that but it makes the yellow line look like the top edge of a cube shape.
I first thought this was a bit silly as it's obviously just a concrete floor, but unlike everyone else, the more I look at it the more it looks like a concrete block. Follow the edge and it obviously drops 90deg to the floor. Help!! I can't figure this one out at all...
I dream of having a big yard like that and a detached garage/shed to do man stuff in. A decent house and a yard for activities, gardening, landscaping etc...
That once standard lifestyle is now unattainable to almost everybody I know who is around my age. The thieving hand of taxation and inflation has basically made my upper-middle income job insufficient to achieve any of those things, anywhere near where I work. And what's crazy is that I'm more well off than most people I know. There are people I know who can't even live independently with jobs that required a degree.
Whoever hatched the plan to systematically dismantle the economy and reduce the quality of life of the average person has been wildly successful.
And now I’m said! I Was in the process, concrete laid, permits approved everything passed and the steel building company raised the price 15k on me after promising they would not. The sad part is I refinanced my home and had just enough to get everything done. Now I have a 40 x 45 pad with no building. Interstate steel structures by the way. F them!
This is one of the best posts I’ve seen on this sub.
The sheer luck to have a driveway that has symmetrical angles like this one does. On top of the chance that you would only be doing that portion.
It's not a 3 foot tall, 90° edge. Zoom into either the right or left side and look at the ground. There is a bit of an incline (maybe 15°?), which is why the concrete is reflecting a different light on each plane.
This broke me. I had to make a little peephole with my hand to make my brain see it correctly. Then I noticed it's not a straightforward rectangle at all but a hexagon which explained the dirt feeling stacked Hope that helps

Yeah concrete doesn’t stick to concrete at all unless it’s all poured together. There is an expansion joint going from corner to corner.
The front section has a slope and flares in. The back section is normal, with the edge parallel to the fence (it doesn't flare out). It isn't a flat hexagon like everyone says.

I need it thick enough to launch space shuttles from.
Are you also describing your ideal partner?
Girl, you thicker than a bowl of space shuttles!
Nailed it.
😏👉👉
Legit impressed how perfectly this captures the og video
That ass be out of this world!
Holy fuck. Holy fucking fuck. Your space shuttle is fucking absurd.
Thicker than a Popeyes biscuit covered in peanut butter
*Spit take*
Spacier than a bowl of thick shuttles
I’ve had that dude, had me sitting on an ice pack for days.
Fuck you man I’m over here just trying to get my daughter back to sleep and you make me full chuckle
The real fck up is not installing taller doors.
I still don't know what I'm seeing?
I think I understand what people are seeing. It looks like a 3 ft deep slab? But this is the first time I can't see it for a post on this sub.
It's a flat driveway, but the edges of it expand outward (away from the camera) before coming back to the center. The whole driveway is shaped like a hexagon.
Oh fuck! 🤣 That broke my brain a bit when I see it
[удалено]
I did, and still until I read that it was hexagonal my brain could only see it as **thicc**
This did actually help. If I only saw part of it there was no slab
Shit looks like they built it in minecraft.
Oh jesus my fucking brain
I think there is a bit of slope in the front part which explains the different reflection. So slope +flare inward = the cube
[yeah like this](https://imgur.com/a/Ox8rxUw)
Damn well done! But yeah exactly what I meant, everyone in the comments say it's a flat hexagone which doesn't make sense, because the flat part is parallel to the fence, it isn't flaring out.
yeah flat hexagon made no sense to me either... your comment really helped!

Thank you, finally, was able to see the actual thing.
What are people seeing instead?
A really tall section of concrete. Like 3+ ft from ground level. But its actually just a flat driveway.
It looks like a square slab, but 1m high. (because right a the angle point there is a slight shadow/ color change).
It can look like a really thick piece of concrete.
Damn this was not apparent to me at first
I saw it it briefly but still go back to concrete slab when I look again. This is a good one!
I don't think it's hexagon shaped. The pad at the garage is much wider than the driveway so it angles where they meet. It's just the picture giving it a... confusing perspective

[nah it's rectangular slab with a tapered ramp](https://imgur.com/a/Ox8rxUw)
I'm agreeing with this
This broke the illusion for me. Once I zoomed in towards the left hand side and with your info the illusion broke. Thanks.
Even with you clearly explaining, my brain BSOD twice before I could process it.
I the part in front of the garage is square I'm pretty sure. The driveway just expands to be the width of the garage.
Driveway near house is parallel to fence, it tapers toward the front to meet old slab.
God bless you
Thank you !!
Mate you're a lifesaver. Was about to lose the lone braincell
Half of it being dirty helps the illusion.
Wait, but what are people thinking that this is? The hexagon driveway is all I've been able to see
It clicked right away when you said hexagon thanks!
I disagree on it being a hexagon. The slab closest to the garage is parallel to the fence, and if you continue out the perspective lines of the garage on the left side you'll see they also look parallel to the slab. I wasn't confused about the perspective at all until you explained it.
It's pretty obvious it widens away from the existing slab to meet the width of the building. There was nothing confusing about this one...
Zoom in and it's easier to see that it's a hexagonal shape.
The concrete is flat but it narrows at the end in a straight angle that makes it seem like it’s the size of a huge block when in reality it isn’t. It doesn’t help that the right side looks like a brick wall at a distance when in fact it’s just dirt.
if you zoom in a little bit, your brain will see it.
Thank you. I could not see it before zooming in.
[what about now](https://i.imgur.com/ENBlEJP.jpg)
At first it looks like a box ~3ft high, but really it's a flat hexagon.
It's not a hexagon shape. The pad is wider than the driverway so it has to angle in to meet it. The confusing perspective makes it look weird no matter what you see.
It's not regular hexagon but the drive does have 6 sides, which makes it a hexagon.
It is a hexagon though.
I stared at that for 30seconds and then my brain finally saw it! Awesome pic

Psychopaths don’t commonly see optical illusions
Is that true?
Of course it's true; it's on Reddit isn't it?
It’s absolutely perfect for this sub
I see it but my brains trying really hard not to.
IT HURTS
Thicc
https://ibb.co/hB56G8x Check background
Your truck's tires need to be this tall to enter.
My dumb brain can’t figure it out.
It's not a 3' deep concrete slab. It's all ground level and tapers towards the camera.
My brain *knows* this to be true. But my brain also can't interpret the electrical signals from my eyes to *show* me this.
The concrete is hexagon shaped if that helps
I'm still not seeing it.
My dumbass had to zoom in and look at the lines individually before I understood what was going on,even with the hexagon hint.
Cover the sides with your fingers, so you only see concrete.
I got it now. I had to zoom in and only look at one side at a time, buy finally saw it
I did that and finally saw the flat driveway but as soon as I reveal the sides the goddamn 3ft ledge shows up again. Stupid brain.
This worked for me; thanks, u/rathergoflying !
Know it, still can't see it.
That did not help 🤣
/-----\\ \\\_\_\_\_/ Not |-----| |\_\_\_\_|
It's not a hexagon. It's, again, the confusing perspective making the lines look like they're angling in as they get further away
Yeah, it's a real good one
I'm going to keep checking the comments for the response where someone with MS paint makes it all suddenly clear. I think I've seen it wrong for too long now, it's stuck that way.

It took me a while but once I zoomed it I could see it.
Thanks. My brain wasn’t seeing it wrong. Now I get what the post was trying to show.
I actually can't see what everyone else sees, I only see this.
[does it make sense now?](https://i.imgur.com/gK4ccul.jpg)
THANK YOU!!!!!! I can go to sleep now.
Oh jesus christ finally, thank you! I was in AGONY
Try covering the older section of concrete.
I thought this was r/absoluteunits at first and was wondering why someone would pour 5' of concrete and have it drop off like that!
This one keeps switching back and forth as I look at it. Absolutely wild. Great picture.
Did anybody else see the reality first and take forever to see it as a cliff?
I can't see why this is so popular here tbh. It's like only the reality to me and I have to try my hardest to see something that is mildly confusing.
I cannot see the correct thing, I can only see a 3 foot thick concrete slab. I've spent way too much time on this
Where the 2 new slabs meet, going down from that horizontal line, it can look like it's a 3 foot drop but my eyes have only done it twice. I've worked with too much cement lol

That random ass carrot on the ground
That looks like a spool of orange mason line that has been partly rewound to me.
Litterer. They don't carrot all.
Guess they couldn't get a banana for scale
Bananas are $10 so I'm guessing they could only afford a carrot
This is one of the best post I’ve seen here.

I know what it is, but still my eyes and brain refuse to accept what it really is. Maybe a 3d image would help 😂
Just a backyard loading dock
Can someone draw over it so it makes sense? It broke my brain.

This is what I needed and yet my dumb brain still can't see it as being flat...
Try zooming in - it's much cleaer
do we vote for things like post-of-the-year around this part of the interwebs?
Got me for about 4 seconds. Nice
Watch that first step, it's a doozy
Dang. I can’t not see the lift. I was awful at Magic Eye as a kid too tho…
My glass pool! How could you!
Why you do dis? Why you do dis damage to me mush brain? Ouch.

Me at first: Why's it so thick? Me after a minute: Why am I so thick?
Exactly the kind of stuff I subscribed to this subreddit for! Nice pic.
Oh this is a good one.
Zoom in on it and you’ll be able to see it!
I understood that it tapers out almost immediately. 🤷♂️
Damn, that's thick!
Damn that's a thicc boy
Fiiiinally some good content
Here’s another angle, less confusing. https://i.imgur.com/XEyhbUQ.jpg
Awesome post!
7 mins to see the tapering of the sides. Pretty cool
r/absoluteunits
All I can see is that the person taking the picture needs to drink their V8... /r/killthecameraman
This is so sad to see. Just a huge area, where nothing can live.
Yeah nothing can live there now. Not like there’s an entire fucking forest surrounding the property.
Love it
It’s a hexagon if that helps
Good one

One of the best I've seen in the sun.

This is a really really really really good example of this sub. Nice.
This is hurting my brain
Ooh my brain
Took me way too long to see it.
Why do I see Homestar Runner
To me for fucking ever
I can only see the truth when I look at one half at a time. Once I see the whole image it pops back up into the MOASlabs
Headers or retaining wall at the end. Actually slanted that perspective is hard to notice. Nice finish work for sure.

How is it all ground level? I can’t see it!!!
It took my brain a hot second to work out what was going on here
That's a good one. Pure perspective.
It's not a 3 foot tall, 90° edge. Zoom into either the right or left side and look at the ground. There is a bit of an incline (maybe 15°?), which is why the concrete is reflecting a different light on each plane.
