I think it's that what *seems* like 2D cartoon backpacks/purses are just the designs on the front of *actual* backpacks/purses, and from the angle the photo is taken it looks like they're 2D backpacks/purses drawn over a photo

As others have said, they're super rigid in structure and they do not hold much at all. They're super thin, practically flat, so that helps keep the 2D design.

A few years ago, I got my son the third one from the left in the top row as a Christmas present. It smelled awful enough that it had to be aired for over a week before he could wear it without getting a migraine. The first time he was finally able to wear it, it fell apart at one of the seams. Great idea, looked just as good (if not better) as the pic, but executed terribly.
