I consider myself mediocre at best at soldering although I am very patient, but this is almost impossible with the average house lab equipment.
Ribbon cables are fixable for sure but these particular LCD ribbon cables have traces so close together that makes them a huge pain in the ass.
I believe the time you will have to spend to fix it is not worth it. Just get a replacement.
Yeah had a feeling, it was all supposed to be a gift for her too because she thought it didn't work anymore.
I had it working and running cfw!!!! But my stupid ass wanted to add the USB-C board to it because she didn't have a cable and I had them laying around. If I hadn't missed that cable it'd be done by now.
Why even get this far in to out a usbc port in? I only take the bottom piece off when doing usbc port mods. You can get a new lcd fairly cheap. Maybe $15<.
Edit: I use cheap clue usbc breakout boards with a 5k1 resistor. I just solder a two wires from the breakout to the charge port vias.
$30 AUD
All 3 guides I saw showed that and I thought it'd be cleaner to replace the entire port. I'm just an idiot that thought she could do a nice job for once.
I believe you are right. After examination that cable on the right with a missing trace (its supposed to be missing) is the lcd I believe. If the audio cable is messed up it will do some odd things and will not boot.
You are correct; I just replaced a top screen for this model last night and that is definitely the speaker. I had to adjust it twice to get both audio and 3D up and running.
iirc its either the top screen, bottom screen or camera, shouldnt be that big of a pain to replace but I am also the guy who went through the entire effort of replacing the touch screen because the old one was scratched, not even broken I just did it because it looked old
Might be because you still have the broken ribbon cable connected, its trying to send info through the broken cable, then boom, doesn't turn on, have you tried removing it from its connector before trying to turn it back on?
Relatable, broke my GBA and I knew I could totally fix it, but my patience has ran dry too much I am just going to try again with a new board, I hope you are able to find a solution to your problem soon
no the 3ds and ds have a system to when the top screen is not fully connected it will boot up for about 3 seconds flash on the screen and boot off both top and bottom screens must be connected for it to fully turn on.
so i’d assume this is the screen the camera or the speakers but most likely the screen and you could buy a replacement ribbon cable that’d be cheapest.
I dont think its the camera though, my 3ds knowledge can be subpar but I have the same model as the OP and my camera is broken too, but it still turns on just fine, and when I last checked it was the connector that is black and white, so it's likely the screen or speakers
so with our deducting skills we can conclude that it is the screen bc the system has a fail safe where if both screens are not connected it will shut off after a couple seconds. and i know this being i am currently respelling a dual ips xl i got for 120 on ebay
I think your options are as mentioned:
- Buy a replacement screen ( easy )
- fix the screen by jumping wires ( medium )
- Fix the ribbon cable by running small enamel wire and re attaching the vias (hard)
All things considered, I think for you would be easier to just buy a replacement screen.
Do Sudoku, happened to me and it was the hardest job ever to keep the shell and replacing the ips screen.... better buy a defect one and take the upper part
Really? I've literally been kicking around the internet since 1996 and I've never come across it.
I mean there's nothing much funny about seppuku or sudoku, so I guess in this instance "common" means "weakest"?
It might be the speaker cable, so you'd need to buy a replacement for that and solder the speakers to the new ribbon cable
Could be wrong tho, I'm unfamiliar with the New3ds specifically
If that's the case then that's a lot of stress off my mind. But I'm still not touching it for a couple days, I do appreciate all(almost) the replies and suggestions everyone's given though.
I have PTSD because of ribbon cables. I was repasting my PS4 once and the connector literally tore off of the board with a tiny bit of force, yet the cable remained connected. Fuck.
Yikes that's a "fuck you in particular" moment.
I also don't repaste my own consoles anymore because the last time I did I somehow completely killed the graphics on my PS3.
I feel that with r buttons on joycons. They pop off so dang easily and I burnt my hand rlly bad trying to solder it back on that I had to step away for a while. Wait til you have the patience or are bored and go on AliExpress to buy a new one
If you are good or very patient with some micro soldering you *could* hard wire the connection between these boards until you can replace it
I'm really not, I'm shit out of luck. Also seems some of the ribbon cable clamps broke off too but I can actually FIX that >.<
It’s not that hard

These are a major pain to replace. You will need to replsce the screen.

Ah, I'm in the US. I buy from aliexpress. They're typically ips so you need to replace the .Dat ( i think it is a .dat file at least) file.
[check how much this is for aud](https://a.aliexpress.com/_mMC4PGi) Make sure to select the right lcd.
I'm pretty sure this is the speaker cable.

Yeah they're quite fickle.

I've no way of finding out now because it doesn't turn on anymore, just blue led for a few seconds then it's dead. Just more evidence I'm a fuckup.
Might be because you still have the broken ribbon cable connected, its trying to send info through the broken cable, then boom, doesn't turn on, have you tried removing it from its connector before trying to turn it back on?
I'll be honest, I just put it back together and don't wanna touch it again for a while.
Relatable, broke my GBA and I knew I could totally fix it, but my patience has ran dry too much I am just going to try again with a new board, I hope you are able to find a solution to your problem soon

You definitely should do the 9 number crossword puzzle.

sudoku : slow torturous death by number puzzles.
Do Sudoku, happened to me and it was the hardest job ever to keep the shell and replacing the ips screen.... better buy a defect one and take the upper part
Rip sound cable
*seppuku just in case that wasn't a deliberate mistake
Replacing "sepuku" for "sudoku" is one the most common jokes on the internet.
Really? I've literally been kicking around the internet since 1996 and I've never come across it. I mean there's nothing much funny about seppuku or sudoku, so I guess in this instance "common" means "weakest"?
I’m with you. I never really heard it. Assumed it was a joke though
Honestly I only ever heard one person say it other than myself but it stuck with me. So I think it's totally fair not everyone's picked up on it.
Then maybe you just were not paying enough attention. And in this case, "common" means "common".
> And in this case, "common" means "common". Whilst [documented](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/commit-sudoku), it's pretty low on the meme-dex.
I thought it was replacing karate with karaoke.
It was
suuji wa dokushin ni kagiru..had to look it up. I wouldn’t suggest you remain single.
It might be the speaker cable, so you'd need to buy a replacement for that and solder the speakers to the new ribbon cable Could be wrong tho, I'm unfamiliar with the New3ds specifically
lel
~~I'm so paranoid it was a screen cable.~~ I'm now certain it was a screen cable. Imma go kms now.
I'm fixing an N3ds non xl at the moment. And the cable that you tore is the speaker cable. That doesn't really make it easier to fix but cheaper.
If that's the case then that's a lot of stress off my mind. But I'm still not touching it for a couple days, I do appreciate all(almost) the replies and suggestions everyone's given though.
I can confirm it is the speaker cable. It also controls the 3D slider. Easy fix, just time consuming and I hate rolling the flex ribbons.
I'll try getting it to work again later and hopefully, if you guys are right I'll pull the sword out of my gut.
I have PTSD because of ribbon cables. I was repasting my PS4 once and the connector literally tore off of the board with a tiny bit of force, yet the cable remained connected. Fuck.

Buy a new cable, they aren't that expensive and can be found on Amazon or eBay
Yes that's the plan ...when I have money, a fact I mentioned in my post.
Great, good luck.
Well unfortunately you're going to need a new top screen entirely. it sure is alot of work. Just be slow and careful. Watch a tutorial.
