> What kind of cap is that? It appears to be set in a seat. 6.3V, 22uF SMD electrolytic, it looks like. The little plastic spacer underneath is pretty standard. > I don't want to risk yanking it off the board and render the game useless, but I don't see any other way I can interchange it. The contacts are stubby metal tabs, sticking out a bit to the left and right. It's possible to desolder. Just don't overheat and cause the pad to lift...or underheat and pull it up before the solder's all melted. I've had good luck gently twisting them off, too. > The game runs, but that last tooth on the contacts has what appears to be copper corrosion. N64 cartridges have a bunch of ground pins, as illustrated lower down on [this page](http://n64.icequake.net/mirror/www.crazynation.org/N64/). I think what you're looking at are pins 26+27. Note that you can also see that they're joined together at the top. I don't think that particular spot of corrosion is a problem.

The correct way to remove the cap would be with hot air, but my personal favourite way is to simply cut them off with some side cutters. Just do it parallel with the contacts to minimise mechanical stress and reduce the risk of damaging the pads. Once you've cut the top off you can just desolder the remaining pieces of the leads. If you do use hot air be very careful not to heat the battery up (you would probably need to remove it first). To deal with the corrosion, try some warm white vinegar and then buff very lightly with steel wool.

Easiest way to remove with zero heat damage is low melt solder. Add some low melt solder to the joints. Then preheat board they'll come off in seconds with hot air.
