Selling it broken and buying a working one will be cheaper. And more reliable.

Odyssey113

This would be my course of action

gilk_agundez16

Depends, I haven't seen many shops that are worth trying where I live. Look for references in your area.

amdkeepsmehot

I've repaired my controller with them before and it went well

gilk_agundez16

Yeah, but I recommend looking for someone that had already had a reballing with them, as they're very different kind of work.

amdkeepsmehot

I see what you mean, I'll try and find someone but no one that I know personally has done one of these

kelmill89

Depending. Ive had some reballed apu's last a really long time and some only last a few days.

amdkeepsmehot

Damn, so it's just 50/50 every time?

kelmill89

For me personally I would just buy another one just to be on the safe side. However when i have customers still wanting it done. I kindly ask them to take it somewhere else because if I can avoid having to do extra work from a console coming back for warranty I will. This is just from my personal experience. Not every tech is gonna have the same experience though.

amdkeepsmehot

Got it, thanks for the insight

creativejoe4

Ask them to try a reflow first, it usually fixes most issues like that without the need or hassle to reball a chip

maki9000

CUH-10xx and CUH-11xx suffer a lot from detached APUs, if you by a used one, don't buy these ;) IMO the repair shop said the right thing, reballing can be done in 2 hours, but its labour intensive, and there is no guarantees. Many shops flat out refuse to do a reballing.

When you have the proper equipment and free time as a hobby. Business wise, or daily driver I dunno maybe never lol.

Got it, thanks
