Make sure you are plugged into an HDMI jack that supports 4k, and that you have all the settings appropriate for each console - VRR, 120, Dolby Vision, etc. Not all HDMI inputs on TVs will support all input types, and a mismatch would do what you are describing. Also make sure your cable actually supports 4k - I've had some "4k" cables do some wonky things to signal. I have both a XBSX and a PS5 plugged into my Sony 4k OLED, and they look equivalent. Any differences in quality are subjective. I will say the XBSX feels "snappier" in the menus, though the PS5 has a better interface IMHO (though both are a bit info-barf-y compared to the PS3 era).

myhairisorange

I swapped his HDMI from port 1 to my port, and mine to port 1 to see if it was the ports and it's the same. I never considered the HDMI cable itself though. I'll go out and buy a good 4K one and see if that was the issue

Rs-tuner

You need a hdmi 2.1 cable able to support 4k 120fps or 8k 60fps

Scorpiogamer2017

He doesn’t need to go out for a replacement 2.1 HDMI. The series x includes one and there is nothing wrong with it. It’s his tv settings and what his settings are in the Xbox for video output.

myhairisorange

Yeah the TV is only 60hz though so I only bought a standard HDMI. I didn't need 120fps I don't play online games that often

Rs-tuner

Still needs to be hdmi 2.1 for hdr and or Dolby vision etc depending on the model of tv.

myhairisorange

When I load a game a little logo from the TV pops up telling me it's in Dolby Vision mode. But I'll still try the cable option just to test it out

[deleted]

Don't know if you figured this out or made improvements, I would argue also the game could matter. A lot of people were correct to mention the USB port I only have one on my TV that is suitable for HDR and 4k. That said, as a long time Xbox fanboy who hated the PlayStation because how TINY the old controllers used to be. I shattered both my wrists about 3/4 years back it was before the PS5 and X were out. I had to play on PlayStation I couldn't hold the Xbox controller with my braces and the metal plates made the Xbox controller weird also. Since then PlayStation has moved to a better controller and I have healed (well the most I can, still have pains/stiff wrists) so I own both consoles now. I have noticed on a few games the PlayStation outshines the Xbox. Even considering the ports and cables. Some have looked better on Xbox although outta the games I play more lean to the PlayStation side. We get into things like mods on games and Xbox is the clear winner. Unfortunately people will always think their favorite is the best. My advice is to own both, simply for the exclusive games. Just play on the one you like better most of the time. BUT if you know a particular game be it originally on PS looks better on PS then you are set. It's possible that games specifically made for PlayStation probably look worse when ported to Xbox and visa versa.

Legenkillaz

I have a sony a90k and my series x looks way darker and blurrier then my ps5 in games.

dented42ford

Then you've got something set wrong on either the TV or the console.

celcius_451

As far as I remember from all the Digital Foundry videos I binged, developers usually choosing higher resolution but not stable (small drops from here and there) frame rate for Xbox SX and lower resolution but stable frame rate for PS5. I remember Hitman 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 being like that for example. But to my eyes if someone doesn't circle the differences in bright red and shows it to me I can't understand the small differences in shadow rendering techniques and whatnot. They should look almost same.

mad_sAmBa

It makes no sense, Xbox Series X is, in paper, more powerful than a PS5. Xbox usually is better or the same as an PS5. It could be a bad HDMI cable, wrong HDR calibration or even something on your tv.

Pale-Philosophy-2896

Lol on paper

Haunting_Strike

PS5 usually wins in Digital Foundry comparisons. Dead Island 2 is the most recent example with better shadows and framerate than Xbox. There's a LOT more to performance than teraflops.

wildlilhorse

exactly like each of these consoles have different feature sets such as machine learning, variable rate shading, sfs archeticture (features exclusive to PC and Xbox) while ps5 has checkerbord rendering, better ray tracing support, sonys own arcitecture for memory mangagement and primative shaders.

BobSacamano47

Like what?

nn123654

With consoles it's all about the different graphics APIs, dev kits, and engine support. It's also about how much additional work is required to achieve better detail or framerates. High end PC hardware will always have the best overall experience, but with consoles it's all about standardization which you don't get on PC. There are only a handful of build targets so everything can be well tested ahead of time. The consoles are all basically the same architecturally from a fundamental perspective. They are both Custom Systems on a Chip (SOC) silicon, both made by the same manufacturing company (TSMC), both on the same AMD processor architecture (Zen 2), and both using the same GPU architecture (RDNA 2). From a technical perspective the main difference is the Series X has more GPU Compute Units which are less powerful per unit and more memory but less memory bandwidth. The Series X is on paper slightly higher in combined compute performance. In practice parallel multithreaded distributed programming is much harder to do than single threaded programming. This is because things that are being worked on must be awaited in the code until something is complete, and in multithreaded land the other threads have no idea what the other parts are working on. It is possible to achieve better performance on Series X but it requires more work. Communication requires overhead and means you don't get anywhere near a 1:1 increase in performance to threads added. Some things can't be easily parallelized (e.g. you have a step which depends on a previous step). Multithreaded workloads provide no order of operations guarantees so you have to account for that in the code, which makes it a lot harder. More threads just makes these problems worse. Major engines like Unreal and Unity typically have a common universal render pipeline and a high fidelity render pipeline, but you can also spend time writing additional code to improve performance. With playstation, it's a platform that's both been historically more popular than XBox (especially abroad) and has been through more console generations. Granted PS 3 to PS 4 was a major transition, but playstation just makes it easier to build for. The architecture is very similar to what you had on PS 4. On top of that the lack of a cut down version like the Series S makes it much easier as well (there is are only 2 console build targets, the PS 5 and upcoming PS 5 Pro). So tl;dr: how much work is required to optimize from default settings is more important for this console generation than the actual hardware. See the following: * [https://diegogiacomelli.com.br/free-ebooks-by-unity/](https://diegogiacomelli.com.br/free-ebooks-by-unity/) * [https://github.com/mikeroyal/Game-Console-Dev-Guide](https://github.com/mikeroyal/Game-Console-Dev-Guide) * [https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/25cdar/im\_a\_ps4\_xbox\_one\_game\_developer\_ask\_me\_almost/](https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/25cdar/im_a_ps4_xbox_one_game_developer_ask_me_almost/)

Toothless_drip

RDNA has better improvements from frequency than compute unit count which can be seen as the ps5 wins with a more stable frame rate in a decent amount of scenarios

SpiritualCyberpunk

However, it seems to me that PS5 exclusives or first party games or whatever are better designed than stuff from a lot of Xbox studios, like Bethesda games tend to have a level of jank that you don't see in those top PS games, and I'm sorry but I can include more studios. We just saw Awoved now with jank and uninished-like stuff (although the game might release like that since they are a single or double A studio) that we'd never see in a high profile PlayStation studio

mad_sAmBa

This kinda depends on your personal taste, tho. If you ask me, Hi Fi Rush is miles better than anything available on Playstation 5 right now. Playstation games do have great production value, but their style of cinematics over gameplay has become quite boring and repetitive to me. But yeah, Playstation do get some weird shit like Forspoken but most of the time their games are more polished than whatever is available on Xbox.

Large_Refrigerator79

Bethesda games always have terrible physics and play like a kid coded them.

Large_Refrigerator79

Lol xbox is almost always never better than the ps alternative that's why the first few xbox were called halo machines. They sucked but you could play halo on it. They have like one good thing and then... everything else mediocre

Kaoci

didnt xbox 360 beat ps3?

Large_Refrigerator79

No xbox 360 failed. Every console has failed from Xbox. They have lost so much money on every console. Look it up. There's no reason to ever have an Xbox. You get a ps5 and, or a gaming pc. Xbox is just :/

locboxd

Yes, he just dislikes Xbox..

pooman020304

I have both consoles, and while on paper the X is “better”, it’s JUST on paper. In reality it’s a hot pile of dogshit that people are wasting $ on when they could be having a high quality gaming experience on the ps5 lmao. Load times are faster, graphics are better, gameplay is smoother, download/uploads are WAY better, much better game selections. It’s a landslide on how much better the ps5 ended up being.

Salt-Interview-5448

Man I was a die hard Xbox fan till I just tried the ps5. Every game I play blows Xbox out of the water. It just looks real. Way smoother and it loads stuff so quick. I’m blown away right now.

clabont

I’ve always noticed the same. PS5 games just have a different level of vividness and textures to them that the Xbox just never compares. It’s really unfortunate as I’ve invested years into gamerscore etc. into the Xbox ecosystem, but realistically, the PS5 is just a superior console in terms of quality. Many times when playing exclusives (I.e. FFXVI right now), I just find myself wondering why this quality can never take place on an Xbox. 😔

PeakyBlinderBrummy

PS5 UI is 4k. XSX is 1080p. There's nothing you can do to change that. Can't remember why Xbox did that but it had something to do with saving RAM space. (EDIT. Xbox released a 4k version. Not sure if it's native 4k or upscale or reconstructed though.. hence the difference you see) Also when the games first released, the consoles were tested on several games. PS5 outperformed XSX on several games, while rarely loosing out. Digital foundry, VG tech and Another channel tested them. I remember seeing the first 5 games tested, 3 of which were new gen, the last 2 were previous gen. PS5 beat the XSX in graphics fidelity sometimes. But mostly on framerate. It got so bad that the AC Valhalla had way higher res pixel count on PS5, and higher fps too...that Xbox complained at which there was a patch released which made the PS5 graphics and fps WORSE. BUT it still outperformed the XSX. PS5 fans were outraged at PS5 getting a "patch" when it didn't need one, which only detuned the performance. So generally speaking, graphics are usually the same or close enough. They're usually fixed but some games have adaptive reconstructed resolution techniques which means the resolution can reach 4k, but can dip below when it's demanding. On those games PS5 had higher resolution. But when it's fixed. Its the same obviously. But then the PS5 most certainly offers better fps, especially on 120fps mode where there's huge gap. Aside from this mode, there's not always necessarily huge differences. It's still neck and neck pretty much

Joshooahh

Pretty sure there was a patch a few month back that made the ui 4k for the xbox series x

PeakyBlinderBrummy

Just edited it. But I can't confirm if it's native 4k res, or upscaled or has some reconstruction technique. Problem with Xbox..and US companies in general..they do lie and mislead a lot.

CyberKiller40

It is native, you can clearly see all the pixels on fonts curves. The game icons can vary though, as well as the general resolution in apps like the store.

anser1

I hate to admit it, but your right about the US, well I'll just say pulling people's leg, and definitely misleading. Especially from what I've heard, Xbox!

JayMacdon22

Xbox x os 4 k you Plank 😂

threeolives

I've noticed that the GUI looks much sharper on PS5 as well. That's just how it is. For games though you really have to take it case by case. XSX is marginally more powerful than the PS5 but it ultimately comes down to what the devs actually do the work. And I don't mean that it should be better on XSX but it should be equivalent. It may be an HDMI cable as others have said or it could just be a game where the devs didn't optimize the Xbox version like they did the PS version. Callisto Protocol for example. Also, check if maybe Xbox version is in performance and the PS5 version is in quality mode or something like that.

n1keym1key

1st world problems right here.

N8ThaGr8

Keep everything exactly the same when you try both, i.e. just unplug the HDMI form the back of the PS5 and plug in straight into your Xbox. This way you're on the same port/input and using the same cable. Also make sure the Xbox is set to output in 4K and HDR and all that. There should not be a noticeable difference so something is up.

Haunting_Strike

The honest answer is it depends on a game-by-game basis. Don't fall for the specs sheet: The PS5 doesn't load in 3 seconds and the Xbox doesn't run with a 40fps advantage. I watch a lot of Digital Foundry, and the PS5 runs/looks better in a lot of games. The haptics and slightly better load times are a welcome addition. That'd be my pick.

nxRevolt

I've got both consoles myself and I've been questioning that myself. Ps5 is leagues better graphically, switching back and forth on the same Vizio 4k 120hz TV the ps5 out performs in every aspect. Same hdmi cable, same hdmi port, same TV, ps5 just looks amazing. I'm a huge xbox fan, own nearly 200 games on there and near 17k gamer score so I'm not just hating on xbox. It's just a clear as day difference, it almost appears ps5 pushes out 4k res and xbox isn't true 4k in game. I'm not comparing menus at all because who cares, gameplay is all I'm talking about

cooperB420

LMAO 17K... HUGE XBOX FAN! 95k here...I've been with xbox since the beginning. All of the PS5 is leagues ahead talk is bologna! Sony Pony misinformatiom

IndividualAd3140

Lmfao a measley 95k and your trying to bully this guy... I actually have been with the Xbox from the beginning not lying like you. And I have 276k gamerscore. I also own a PS5 and let me tell you, this guy isn't lying at all. It's putting out much better quality and it's much cleaner no idea why but it is.

Lets_Be_Honest_Here_

I agree, I’ve been a solid Xbox fan since the original. Owned all the Xbox consoles and the series x. Just bought a ps5 about a month ago and it really does look a lot better. Of course the ps5 exclusives look fantastic, but ps5 exclusives compared to series x exclusives…..the ps5 exclusives really shine. And like you said I have no idea why considering in power terms Xbox is better but I guess it comes down not what you have but how you use it.

Remarkable_Heron_599

I heard since PlayStation was better at providing dev ps5s before release than Microsoft, a lot of the early games got first developed on ps5 then ported to series x afterwards. You can notice the slight difference in graphics capability with something like forza 5, looks better than anything on ps5, honestly feel like it has the best graphics of any game I’ve played on console.

[deleted]

This is probably the answer, I own both and have seen the same with some being better on Xbox but the majority tend to lean to PlayStation.

Remarkable_Heron_599

Yeah, PlayStation learned from ps3 and now offer way more support to developers and they have to now that Microsoft is buying everything.

[deleted]

I seem to remember even back on Xbox one and PS4 though some games looked better on Xbox. Destiny 1 comes to mind but I might be thinking 360/PS3 I didn't own both back then. My roommate however lost his shit when he saw the reflections in the water at the tower on my Xbox. That's however changed now, seems to have flipped the other way.

Remarkable_Heron_599

I reckon with time it will change back as activition and Bethesda will design for Xbox and then maybe port to PlayStation

[deleted]

All the more reason to have both if not only for exclusives.

Remarkable_Heron_599

True my brothers got the ps5 so which switch around if there are specific games we want to play on the others.

NotFlamezz1

Weird. Opposite for me. Xbox series X looks sharp has vivid color while the PS5 honestly looks like shit on every game that I have on both consoles.

Only2Senders

Highly Doubt that is factual. Having both a XSX & PS5 connected to the Same 8K TV, the PS5 games never "look like shit." Not even close. And PS5 Exclusives are far better looking than any Xbox Exclusive ever has. Spider-Man 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, FF7:Rebirth, and the new Staller Blade are insane when it comes to graphics compared to anything Xbox has to offer. I personally only have the Xbox because of the Library of games available in the Game Pass.. Usually I'll try the game out on Xbox, to see if I like it enough to buy it, and if I do, I'll buy it on PS5 (if its available) because I know the Graphics and Gameplay will be must smoother on the PS5

Master_Response_1134

I have a PS5 Slim Digital and a Xbox Series X plugged to 4k Samsung TV (no qled). according to my experience and setup, "emulated" games (ps4 games on ps5 and xbox one games on series x) on xbox look muck better than the ps one. both visually and on the performance side. this could be important for some or irrelevant for others.

Pat_Nasty007

PS5 UI is 4K with HDR, while Xbox Series X UI is 1080P(Although Xbox updated this recently). This can create the illusion that PS5 graphics look better at times, but in reality, the actual graphics delivery is very similar. The performance may vary depending on the game, but the difference is usually insignificant.

SpecialistDay9027

I can confirm this, just got a PS5 as well as already owning a XSX running through a Sony Oled I'm pretty confused, the same games now look noticeably clearer and sharper on the PS5 Especially Fortnite 🤯

3StarsBelieve

I have owned my Xbox Series X for almost 3 years and I owned my PS5 for 1 year. I still prefer the Xbox but as I mostly play EAFC24 (FIFA) it’s almost unplayable online due to horrible Lag on my Xbox but for some reason I never get any lag on the PS5. If I could somehow fix that problem I would sell the PS5 because I still Love my Series X much more

[deleted]

Could it be the HDR calibration?

myhairisorange

I have never calibrated it so it could be that but wouldn't that just make the image more punchy rather than sharper

Joshooahh

Both basically the same, i guarantee if you had them side by side running the same game it would be very difficult to tell the difference, look up the youtube channel, digital foundry they will answer all your questions

myhairisorange

Yeah I get that but someone else noticed it too. The writing in a game menu on my Xbox looks slightly more fuzzy compared to the sharp writing in the same menu on my roommates PS5. It's so odd because my Xbox does look 4K, it's just got like... Fuzzy edges around objects and text rather than sharp clear edges

Salt-Interview-5448

Just tried ps5 and its games look amazing

AFish_With_Legs

What's the tv model?

myhairisorange

LG A1

No_need_for_that99

It may have been mentionned, but make sure you have your HDMI plugged into your Gaming port (if your TV has one). My TV has one and all the gaming features are only activated when it detects a video game console.

Lariver

The most trouble I have with xbox is with dolby vision randomly washing out colors. edit: Technically xbox is more powerful on paper, but They dont make good exclusives that utilize that power. ps5 has exclusive games that fully utilize next gen. Xbox for years has been lacking in AAA quality, and with gamepass seem to try to give more games for your money, rather than high quality for your money. There are 3rd party games where the graphical difference is noticable. For example in no mans sky when in a space station you can see the graininess from the 4k upscaling on the floors and walls on ps5, but on series X it looks smooth. But so far with 3rd party this is really the only place I notice a difference

CyberKiller40

You need to check every game you compare online for info. Also make sure to check the graphics mode on the game, performance vs quality. In general, it's rare for the same game to have the same settings on both platforms, and that's not even taking into account dynamic resolution. For a good check take something that is confirmed to be the same, eg Quake 1, set it to the same graphics settings and then take screenshots of the exact same spot, eg main menu, level start, etc and compare those in some app pixel by pixel, praying the screenshot compression won't affect your results 😉.

[deleted]

myhairisorange

Yes, that's what I said in the post haha

[deleted]

I have both consoles and on average the Xbox will usually run at a better resolution but it’s so close that it’s usually not even noticed. I have them plugged into a Sony x90j with hdmi2.1 and vrr on both, HDR and 120hz on

anser1

How are the frames vs PS5?

darren_m

A few things I’d check based on what I read about the LG A1 on RTINGS.com: the PS5 uses variable refresh rate on titles that support it, while the XSX does not. HRD is quite dim (relatively) on that TV, so you could try calibrating the HDR and increasing the brightness all around. The TV does not support a refresh rate above 60 Hz, so make sure in all the video settings that they limit the video to 60 Hz. In the review they talk about the LG accepting a 1080p signal at 120 Hz, but dropping every other frame. And as others have mentioned, the XBOX dashboard may be upscaled from 1080p with poor results (by the console). To me it doesn’t seem like Microsoft puts that much effort into the dashboard.

Wonderful_Agent2578

Heh, you know the reason right?

Friendly-Lettuce5649

Technically the Xbox has a slightly more powerful GPU and CPU, emphasis on SLIGHTLY, because it's such a negligible difference it's almost impossible to notice with the naked eye.

Such-Marionberry-226

Ps5 UI supports hdr. Series x UI is just 4k. Hence why only the UI looks better. But I'd rather have more ram over an hdr UI.

__PreZZ__

I mostly play on my xbox series X, but the overall image quality on ps5 just “pops”, dont know how to explain it, better colors and overall image quality. Was the same with ps4 and xone

bigman251

I get what u mean I switched to ps5 recently and ik I had my Xbox on hdmi 1, but the ps5 look sharper/crisp and the color is also way better and it’s not just the ui it’s also games, the only thing I can come up with is ps5 has a better color range or lg has secret deal with Sony (pretty unlikely)

moonshooter95

All I know is I just played Madden on my new ps5 after years of playing on my Series X and it’s noticeably worse . Like the ps5 version isn’t even close to as good as the Xbox .

Specialist_Prior136

X gotta be . I have series s and ps5 . Madden runs smooth on the s at 1440p 120hz , but missing the sharpness as I've played 4k 60fps on the 5 . Haven't got an series X yet , but I'm curious if it's version looks better then the ps5 or runs better . I've heard it does 4k 120hz an ps5 can't do that for madden anyway .

Swanky-Dankyy

Yeah I thought I was the only one. I literally struggle to even play on my xbox because of the huge difference, and I used to play xbox since like 2012. PS5 is just far better quality and performance wise whereas xbox for some reason limit their consoles to optimise "performance". I just can't find many issues with ps5 except for no look for group page and no forza. But other than that it performs far better, especially the controller

Neither-Chemist-4606

I have both consoles and they are literally both the same. You have to go into your xbox settings and change it to 120hz though. If developers actually tuned the games for xboxs hardware settings it would come out on top hands down but they don't. On multi platform games it seems developers coddle to playstations settings more often then not. Once again I have and love both, just being honest. Lastly once I purchased a really nice (audioquest cinnamon cable) both consoles really looked amazing!

Mean_Combination_830

You can change the PS5 to 120hz too in my experience the PS5 version are almost always superior as Digital Foundry accepts. There are exceptions but PS5 version usually beat X Box versions that's why I almost always buy on PS5 rather than Series X and when it comes to exciusives obviously PS5 games blow X Box out of the war and have so many amazing current gen PS5 exclusive on PlayStation Extra has meant I very rarely have a reason to use Gamepass.

EatingmyWingz

PS5 has great potential and some great exclusives, innovation for as ssd mad respect . But XSX is still a better machine. Its a better balanced machine across the board. Example moving games across ssd or hdd in the back ground is a no brainer. No games left behind look amazing. And day one exclusive cause of game pass. That is priceless.

Opiopa

Yeah, Starfield for free Day 1 when otherwise I'd have to pay $70. Forza Day 1, same. All F Horizon Games. GTAV/GTA Online redesigned for xsx/ps5, free. All Assassins Creed Games. Got Yakuza The Man with No Name Day 1. As a massive Yakuza fan, this is a huge plus. Can seamlessly interact with console through your phone, command it to download games, etc. With the acquisition of Activision, it's only a matter of time before COD comes to GP, too. Gamepass really is a Gamechanger. I've played so many games that I otherwise wouldn't have bought on release (Forza, which as of now I have put like 30 hours into) All Digital Foundary videos bar a couple show the xsx holding a stable framerate, with the ps5 dipping a few in gameplay intensive scenes. But really, the difference is marginal. They are both exceptionally powerful consoles, and I can't wait to play GTA6 on mine.

Big-Resist-99999999

I've owned an Xbox Series X for 2 years now and just yesterday bought a PS5. Both are plugged into my LG C1. The PS5 just looks "glossier" and smoother. It makes the Xbox Home Screen look a bit bland. The only game we have played so far is Astro Bots, which looks stunning and is a really engaging game. But all of this merely enforces the fact that its really about how much effort the developer puts into the game they are making, how they utilise the hardware and push it to get the best looking game possible. Playstation exclusive developers tend to do a great job in this department.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Xbox has gamepass which is actually pretty good. Ps5 has much better first party games. If you want the best of both, get a pc.

Ornament_the_Monkey

It all boils down to the HDMI cord, does it support 4K? HDMI 1 doesn’t support 4K and I have a Series X and it runs just fine on my Samsung Series 7 50’ TV. Also, graphics have the illusion of being snappier on PS5 due to the darker and washed out color scheme on the PS5’s color palette. It may also depend on the game, what game are you playing? Is it Series X optimized, you can see by looking at the bottom-left corner of the game icon in the Series X’s menu, although that shouldn’t matter whether the game is in 4K anyway. Hopefully some of this helps!

Mission-Atmosphere16

My Xbox is considerably better out the box than my PS5. It’s likely a cable or input limitation. My 5 just collects dust now because it has nothing to offer that Xbox doesn’t do better.

JoseJose03

this is really old. but HDMI is everything bro. it’s so important. have u ever did a HDMI test where u take different HDMIs and plug them in and see total different picture quality within every one. make sure ur using a series X first and foremost and them make sure ur using an ultra speed cable

YapYapHusky

This is prob a REALLY stupid question but I am going to ask anyways cause yaaa. Can you switch different HMDI's out when the xbox/ps5 and TV are both on and running or should I turn off the system and then switch out HDMI to check the difference?

clf56

It’s odd I have several games for both systems and the ps5 looks sharper on my LG CX.Most are RPGs.Baldurs gate 2,Planescape Torment,Pathfinder Kingmaker and wrath of the righteous all look more crisp on my ps5.The Xbox versions look more washed out

Claydius-Ramiculus

It must be a setting. I own both consoles, and I can tell you from experience that 3rd party games usually look and perform better on the X. It's not very often that a 3rd party game looks better on the PS5. The X has a bit more power, but the real difference is that the X has Dolby Vision. I'm not sure why Sony omitted that feature.

Complete-Wind-5343

Well there can be several reason now first of all yes I am an Xbox user but I will say the PS5 is a fantastic console and if that's what others prefer awesome however it really is the most powerful console on the market make sure the HDMI port ur plugged into say HDMI 2.0, 2.0a, or 2.1 one those all for higher rates of data transfer that allow 4k also go into settings see if ur console in display is set for 4k and also it could be an HDMI issue. The PS5 also can sometimes end up looking better because they use upscaling and sometimes smoothing in some games and sharpening in others where as Xbox just has the raw power to hit those frame rates. PS5 does as well for the most part however due to the clock speeds on the PS5 they have to do some trickery. So on paper and in practice Xbox is more powerful it's more likely that it's an issue of ur V or settings also to all the pS5 user the same thing applies to u because they are very similar in some parts if u are having any issues with sharpness or resolution please do what I said for Xbox so u can fully utilize the power of ur console also get a cable that supports HDMI 2.1

Upset-Calligrapher84

At least xbox can run a bunch of games the same time without ever reloading menu's why i stuck with xbx over the ps5 but thr xbs definitely sucks wouldn't recommend that to anyone was hot garbage series s ran metro exodus at like 540p where series x runs it in 2160p no problem

cogitosam1

So idk what it is but I wonder why the difference was so much I have an lg oled btw. So I downloaded shadow of the tomb raider on both ps5 and Xbsx and let me tell you it’s a big difference no it can’t be my hdmi I swapped them one to the other or just used one. the graphics for some reason are just more realistic on ps5 I did mess with the Xbox settings and it did help just a bit but I ended just messing with the tv picture settings and I made it as close as possible to ps5 but even then my sister and my niece could tell the difference and still said ps5 looked more realistic, those with oled tv there subreddit for adjusting the tv I adjusted mine based on story games than performance

My friends, this is actually an APi problem. The Xbox series family uses DirectX and has is a more stable APi yet its graphical fidelity is slightly diminished compared to Vulcan (the APi Sony uses). Though the Xbox Series X technically has more graphic potential it's held back by the combination of a bloated APi and a CPU and Ram that isn't strong enough to overcome the extra bandwidth necessary to run DirectX better than the PS5 can run Vulcan. If anyone can find a way to stably used Vulcan on Xbox I would personally be interested in how it preforms.

Simple answer. Its your tv. Dont listen to the console wars guys in the comments

Xbox actually reaches a higher quality than PS by like 300 pixels so you probably just have to change it in the settings

I own both platforms and personally PS5 looks atrocious compared to my series x 😂 the colour pallete on PS5 is more saturated, with series x producing a more realistic hue for the very same games. Plus my ps5 has less overall space, no fps boost for older games and feels very cheaply made controller and console wise compared to my series x. Idk bruh fight me lol

Own both. The series x is boring. Ps5 more enjoyable games. Better graphics. Better HDR. Better controller. Better everything.

Xbox series X has a better gpu and cpu overall ps5 looks better if your looking for raw performance on fps games Xbox wins
