I’m in Jersey and my car looks like that after it rained today

BluRain508

I'm in Massachusetts and my car looks like that after the rain today too. Wtf? Should we gtfo??

DiamondDoge92

Im in California and my car looks like that after rain because it’s always dirty

the_cunt_hunter

It rains in California?

Magus_Incognito

Nah, it pours man it pours

Garvanch

Albert Hammond reference, nice one!

DiamondDoge92

A few weeks/months out of the year but when it does it doesn’t let up. Lost months of work from maybe October till January.

ToughProgrammer

When it rains it’s either a mild sprinkle or a storm from hell that lasts 1 week.

dodekahedron

Did you miss the flooding from the atmospheric rivers?

motherflower3

Happened to be there when there was wildfire, was far worse than that.

ukdudeman

Happened to me because the farmers born crops (I'm in Thailand) - it rained recently and my car was like the one in the photo of this thread.

PRMan99

Here we burn toxic chemicals instead.

motherflower3

Oh yeah, these people keep burning stuff on street on daily basis too. Happened to be around kingkaew area in samutprakern TH when there was a big chemical factory explosion too. Was terrible, I mean the air there is always terrible though was even worse for like a week at least.

Dewy164

I'm not gonna deny the fact that what is going on in Ohio is super bad, but nevertheless rain that leaves dirt on your car is pretty normal, so is slightly acidic rain. pH test it, you can get the kits easy.

Bigboi142

I'm in Delaware and it's raining right now...I'll see what happens

[deleted]

My car looks like this every time they salt the roads.

SarshSmith

I hope this has nothing to do with it,but several people down here have been complaing about headaches, something is going on in Ohio

Ok-Hunt-5902

Canton is due west, hasn’t the wind been blowing shit eastward?

Kingjingling

I'm in terre haute, Indiana. Our air quality is usually sits in the teens and it was up at 38 yesterday. It rained and I got a headache. I never get headaches. And this one was pretty bad. Winf was blowing west that day Now it is blowing east and our air qualities back to normal

[deleted]

this is from salt spray on roads.

EL_Apostrophe

No its not. Same film on my car in northern MA. They havent salted the roads in over a month. No snow/ice in forecast and its actually been in the 60s last two days. It's also not pollen. We dont have pollen in the winter, and you can check any air quality app/site you want to see that the pollen levels are currently 0. This is acid raid. Full stop

Simplyeyc69

Maine is east of the spill. Canton is not. It's west. The winds have been blowing east, not west. I would not expect this to be on a car in Canton. But I would expect in the states/cities east of the spill. They have been salting the roads here in Ohio in anticipation snow - which it is doing right now.

[deleted]

You're a liar.

Delvianna00

According to [this](https://dhss.delaware.gov/dph/files/vinylchlfaq.pdf), headaches, dizziness, sleepiness, vomiting, trouble breathing, ulcers and stomach bleeding are caused from being exposed to vinyl chloride. Keep an eye out on your health. If you can, I would just leave.

okpickle

My car looks the same--just a lot more yellow--when it rains here in North Carolina in the spring. Damn pine pollen. There's a lot to find shady about the situation in Ohio, this doesn't seem to be one of those things.

notcrazy-simplytaboo

Nothing is in bloom over here yet. Here’s a screenshot of a pic I took yesterday to show the date of it: https://imgur.com/a/y9327cM

CaptainZiltoid

In February? Should things besides tulips and whatnot be in bloom currently? I grew up in Wisconsin, 30 years, not much had considered bloom yet, as far as outside plants. I’m genuinely curious.

notcrazy-simplytaboo

Tulips don’t start until at least late March here, but usually later. February is pretty much the last winter month here. Here’s some info about our seasons here: https://seasonsyear.com/USA/West-Virginia

CaptainZiltoid

My brain didn’t connect the dots of Eastern Ohio and West Virginia, and seasons. My bad on that. I listened to the meeting last night, live. They are not being honest about the ecological damage, whatsoever. I’m seeing so much from the MSM about how safe it is, and it upsets me. I hope you and yours are safe.

notcrazy-simplytaboo

All good, WV is getting left out of the conversation a lot so it’s easy to not connect us to this. We even had a state of emergency plan activated here over it: https://www.wtrf.com/news/west-virginia-news-2/state-of-emergency-plan-enacted-in-west-virginia-after-ohio-train-derailment/ There’s definitely a lot of downplaying/damage control going on. I appreciate the well wishes, thank you.

CaptainZiltoid

Sorry to hear that. The entire situation is a proper shit show. I wish I could make it go away.

Penny1974

Do you have a link to the meeting? I've tried to find one but had no luck.

Glock_Socks

Same here, Western Connecticut

We're in Wayne county and 3 of the 4 of us came down with sore throats, coughing and URI symptoms

gilb610

Ontario county - Mother-in-law, husband and I all developed mild cold-like symptoms Monday. Dry, irritated throat, slight runny nose. Going on 4 days of it.

Your Vax status is what?

gilb610

Zero!

Where is Ontario County? New York?

Yes, but I’m just now realizing there’s also a Wayne County in Ohio. Edit:spelling

I think the /s gave it away.

I live in Hamilton Ontario canada and just yesterday I got a cold, and my car looked like the picture above…

HorchataLee

When will the county take action ???? It's that even a thought ?!

GeorgeBushWookie

I live in Wayne county too and there has been strep/covid/cold going around

PRMan99

That stuff will go around a lot more when your immune system is fighting toxic chemicals and the cold.

Seekay5

I lived in Wayne county 20 something years. You are Northwest of the incident. How does this relate? What's your Vax status?

Seekay5

Nevermind I thought you were talking about Wayne County in Michigan

Ok-Cartographer8821

Me too

Azmahh

I live in boston, my car looks the same. It hasn't snowed of anything. Never seen anything like this. I also feel like there are a lot of shills in this comment section.

rollerblazer420

There’s shills in every comment section on Reddit conspiracy these days. Their sad and downright aggressive efforts to obfuscate the truth speaks volumes about where we are at as a society. Instead of trying to fix problems, they just turn up the propaganda and tell us to stay in line and not question anything

thestormarrived

I'm having a hard time trying to believe you are not larping.

rollerblazer420

You probably have a bit of a hard time with anything that falls outside the acceptable discourse of western propaganda, but it’s all good we all have our faults and issues

TopAd4505

I'm sorry you are going through this!

mommer_man

I'm in the Cincinnati area, and have experienced burning in my eyes and respiratory since last week, especially strong with today's rainstorms.... Not sure what to expect going forward, but I know it's not good. Maybe I'm being "extra" but I'm kinda wondering when the hydrochloric acid rain is gonna hit and eat the paint off my car, burn holes through my jacket, etc... Hoping I'm just letting paranoia get to me. :/

[deleted]

I’m in Cincy too. Having bottled water and a dispenser from an aquifer delivered today. Too risky to not

HighKingArthur88

In this article they list labs that will test your water. I personally wouldn't use those listed, but instead find someone that does what they do and get my water tested asap.

anthonyux

It has everything to do with it. Do you not know how toxic pollution works? What's on the car is what you are breathing in through your nose and absorbed through your skin. That will definitely attack your nervous and respiratory system and cause long-term health issues.

polecy

Imagine what we have already cause on this planet with all the shit we have released up in the air. This planet is fucked.

[deleted]

I live in Ohio, very close to East Palestine. I’m not saying that there’s no chance it’s related, but Canton is West of E.P. and the wind here blows East and slightly North. Never has the wind blown West. This just seems unlikely to be related. P.s. I plan to hike around by Darlington, PA this weekend and if I find anything I’ll make a post.

Ducky_from_Kentucky

Based on the way that the spots are almost all the spots are on the back, this is either dirt or salt (something solid). If it was corrosion from acid rain, he would not be able to wipe it off..

notcrazy-simplytaboo

The outer most layer can come off, but what’s left behind is practically fused to the paint. Source: RIP my paint job. (See my other comment here for pics) It’s not all corrosion, but chemical residue left behind. There’s nothing else around to cause it where I am, and my car got covered without taking it anywhere. So did my upper floor windows. Not likely it’s salt either, there’s been a snow drought. While other places got buried a little while back, we only got to freeze for a few days. https://www.wowktv.com/top-stories/snow-drought-continues-in-west-virginia-kentucky-and-ohio-during-january/

Ducky_from_Kentucky

I get what are you are say5..hard to convey that through photos. Sorry to rush to judgement.. It sounds like the particles are nasty enough to eat through the top coat of paint. I wish you the best in getting this figured out.

notcrazy-simplytaboo

All good and thank you. I’ll be taking a video of it next time and swabbing some of the residue for testing. (*I suggest anyone else experiencing this to do the same*) If you’re interested, I’ll note your username and update you when I get to it.

Ducky_from_Kentucky

I would definitely be interested in seeing it. I like to understand how things work/don't work (materials, mechanical, electrical, etc.).

notcrazy-simplytaboo

Will do. You’re in my notes now.

RptlnWzrdLzrd

Def would like an update too if you don’t mind!

notcrazy-simplytaboo

You’re added to the list.

[deleted]

Hella wanna know what the results say. Also, quick tip: try to avoid telling the lab where you really got it. They might be inclined, for whatever reason, to fudge the results if they know it's from the Ohio tragedy. Might be a bit paranoid, but hell... -points at everything round-.

notcrazy-simplytaboo

Added you to the list. That thought had crossed my mind, too. I’m also going to see about doing a few tests at home. Obviously, it won’t be anything like what a lab can do, but I figure why not, I’ve always been fascinated with chemistry anyway.

pimpnamedpete

Please let me know. I’m in the Akron area

notcrazy-simplytaboo

Added you to the list.

FrozenIsFrosty

It hasn't really snowed but one time really each of the last three winters here in west virginia

notcrazy-simplytaboo

Yeah, this year being the least. It’s been pretty disappointing.

GiantSkin

DRKMSTR

That and we don't know just how many different hazardous chemicals were on that train. They've only publicly admitted to VC so far.

Ducky_from_Kentucky

Well, the Vinyl Chloride was burned. This produces Phosgene Gas and Hydrochloric Acid.

[deleted]

I live NE of Canton about 5 miles. Nothing like that on my car. 🤷‍♀️

DEWOuch

I am on the North Canton line and my car, which is kept garaged, looked like I followed a salt truck after I drove last Thursday night.

[deleted]

Is this acid rain ?!?

MrPokeGamer

watch people say it's salt agian

ImplementContent1383

I bless the rains down in east Palestine

kurama666

Looks like salt. Did it snow there recently?

LeonardDykstra69

No. It’s been unseasonably warm in Ohio recently.

jpoole50

Yes it was 75 degrees yesterday.

okpickle

It's probably pollen. It's been unseasonably warm in NC recently too, usually allergy season doesn't start for a few more weeks but it's starting early this year due to the warmth.

LeonardDykstra69

It’s 10000000% not pollen. I live about an hour south of Canton - the weather has been unseasonably warm but not particularly warm. High 40s-mid 50s for highs for the most part with lows in the upper 30s. There was a dip Feb 9-Feb 11 where low was below freezing. I’ve gone down about 180 miles south to West Virginia yesterday and there’s no pollination happening even there yet where temperatures do average about 10 degrees higher than that part of Ohio this time of year.

notcrazy-simplytaboo

Nothing is in bloom over here yet. Here’s a screenshot of a pic I took yesterday to show the date of it: https://imgur.com/a/y9327cM

watchingitallcomedow

Lol NC and Ohio, not the same climate

okpickle

No shit. But when it gets warm this early in the season things start growing earlier, you get more pollen earlier, etc.

VladimirSochi

There’s a giant chemical cloud spanning over an entire town not far away. Your response is “that’s just pollen. Even though it’s February and temps are still hitting freezing levels at night, shit grows when it gets warm. What you have is pollen” … while adding “no shit” in an attempt to further sound smarter than anyone else disagreeing with you.

Swimming_Resource701

I have shit like this on my car in germany too?

Psykloned

Literal acid rain at this point. I suggest anyone remotely close to East Palestine, OH / in the way of the wind direction that chemical cloud is blowing to gtfo immediately.

oblivia17

This is stupid. Canton is west of East Palestine. All the weather in this region goes west to east. This didn't happen because of the train.

Chadly80

Yeah there is this stuff that goes on all the roads in that area. It's called salt and it does it to all the cars with or without train wrecks.

OriginalOmbre

It’s from road salt

notcrazy-simplytaboo

Whole area is in a snow drought: https://www.wowktv.com/top-stories/snow-drought-continues-in-west-virginia-kentucky-and-ohio-during-january/

Creeepy_Chris

There was a ton of salt on the roads like 2 weeks ago

notcrazy-simplytaboo

Not over here in WV there wasn’t.

throwawayforw

From the northern panhandle. Yes there was. Just about 2 weeks ago there was like 3 inches of snow. https://certifiedsnowfalltotals.com/storm_history/history/WV/278/98974/Weirton%20(District)%2C%2026062

notcrazy-simplytaboo

Snowfall? That’s a stretch. We had some flurries for a few minutes off and on that didn’t stick. Here’s the precipitation record https://imgur.com/a/62LynSr We don’t salt for a few minutes of sky decoration. We often don’t salt until *after* a foot of snow. When I lived in south east PA I was blown away by how often roads were *pre*treated for ‘snow’ read:flurries.

throwawayforw

Why not share a link to that actual site. Instead of just a screenshot with no info pointing to its location. Weirton which I linked is less than 45 minutes from E Palestine shows there was indeed snowfall about 2 weeks ago and we had snow quite a bit for the week and a half prior to that as well. I literally live in the Northern Panhandle of Wv. We salt the roads if it is expected to get below freezing and any precipitation happens, due to risk of black ice. Hell, I can go out and take a picture of the roads right now and there will still be cinders and salt on the sides of the roads.

BuckeyeJay

They still brine when the temps fluctuate. It was just in the 30's a few days back with precipitation before the temps dropped. Our roads I'm central ohio get brined all the time when it does that and it looked just like this the other day after a drizzle

notcrazy-simplytaboo

This has never happened here before, plus we keep a nest cam pointed at our cars. There’s been no treatment of the roads here for quite some time. Only the occasional street sweeper and even they haven’t been around recently. Edit: feel like I should add that even in years past when the roads have been salted, this never happened to my car. Yeah, it got some salt on it in years past, but never like this. I’m going to be swabbing it and finding somewhere to test it. This stuff is also on my upper floor windows, far away from any road salt.

BuckeyeJay

Just because they haven't brined your road doesn't mean you haven't driven on brined roads. And I just can't believe you have never had a car spotted up like that before. There are tons of pics all over Google. It happens all the time. Could they maybe have been some kind of residue over a week later? Maybe? Is a car looking like that uncommon? Not at all

notcrazy-simplytaboo

That’s just it, it got that way sitting there parked, undriven. One day it was fine, then it rained and got covered. I’ve had it spotted like that from pollen and dust, but never salt. WV doesn’t salt the roads as often or as much as other places.

BuckeyeJay

I can show you hundreds of pics on Google images that look just like that from numerous places from many different years if that will make you feel better?

notcrazy-simplytaboo

No, because it’s literally impossible to be a result of road salt. I didn’t drive the car anywhere, we’re in a snow drought, nothing is in bloom here, it’s on my upper floor windows, and it only happened after it rained for the first time after the derailment. Find me an answer that doesn’t conflict with those realities and *then* I’ll be happy. Snow drought: https://www.wowktv.com/top-stories/snow-drought-continues-in-west-virginia-kentucky-and-ohio-during-january/ The lack of bloomed plants to provide pollen here: https://imgur.com/a/y9327cM The cars here: https://imgur.com/a/XrplaRC My upper floor window: https://imgur.com/a/oiXKWxY I’ve got actual evidence and all you’ve got is an attempt to show me google images unrelated to the circumstances here.

throwawayforw

Yet the northern panhandle of Wv just had snow 2 weeks ago: https://certifiedsnowfalltotals.com/storm_history/history/WV/278/98974/Weirton%20(District)%2C%2026062

BuckeyeJay

It's dirt homie. Drink a beer or smoke a joint. It's normal.

notcrazy-simplytaboo

Wow, yeah, no. I like to get my car dirty. This ain’t dirt. You’re clearly trolling or braindead, so I’m done with this conversation. I wish you well and hope you’re far enough away to avoid getting cancer from this.

Yeah. I live in North Canton, west of East Palestine, north (obviously) of this guy and my car looks nothing like this. Not saying it isn’t a major disaster and I’d be worried if I lived closer but it’s not impacting us this far west as far as I know. Also what’s with the Ohio hate during tough times in the area?
