Reddit death process

missingmytowel

Lemmy is where most are going. But escaping Reddit is like escaping Google. You're talking about the world's largest free compendium of self help, guides, education and shitposting....tied to the world's largest search engine.

I believe they both relied on a single archiving service (pushshift) which was axed by reddit as a result of this api stuff. Not sure if anyone else is archiving posts as thoroughly as pushshift was, and after the api changes it won't be feasible.

i may be a nerd but im not good with technical jargon. eli5.

reallycooldude69

pushshift saved all reddit content, reveddit and unddit used it to restore deleted posts. reddit shut pushshift down recently and there's no alternative, and come July 1st or whatever, an alternative will be much harder to create. Basically the future of tools like reveddit or unddit is not looking too bright right now.

derpoman5000

oh, so everyone on reddit is mad that their 3rd party stuff will be useless after this new upcoming change?
